Love this little restaurant.
The food is good and not expensive at all. The service is great too!

Have been back twice in three days simply because the cuisine and service are delicious and you cannot beat their value for money on the dinner set.Honestly some of the freshest sushi I have ever had and the currys are delicious as well! Be warned the katsudon is VERY filling. A big bowl of delicious rice... you WILL leave full and satisfied.Take a your friends, and try the Japanese soft drinks too!It is a small place, but there is seating upstairs too.

The meal set is awesome value! The food here is always amazing you can't go wrong with fresh sashimi, noodle dishes or basically anything on the menu. Must try is the green tea milkshake.

Cheap, huge and delicious - seriously, is there anything to dislike? Hmm... well, aside from the super cramped seating and not-so friendly servers. Anyway, that aside, Samurai is Glenferrie little gem as they offer solid Japanese comfort food, for mostly under $10! ~best deal in town!Ordered the Chicken Katsu curry, and it arrived piping hot. The curry was on the milder side, a little watery for my liking, but appreciate the chunks of carrots that included in the mix. The bomb, however, has got to be the generous, tasty chicken katsu... so so good! If you are a fan of anything green tea, do check out their dessert menu! They carry green tea ice cream, milkshakes and even cheesecake. I wasn't too crazy about the green tea cheesecake (dry!) but I loooove the ice cream, so creamy and sweet! Overall, I had a great dinner experience at this humble Japanese eatery; fantastic food, pocket friendly and a bright ambiance, would definitely be back for more of their satisfying, hearty food. Tips: minimum use of $25 for credit cards.

.. & CHEAP... EAT-IN SURE TO BE VERY GOOD... & THUS.. VERY CHEAP..."Wanted Japanese - a very late lunch.. or very early dinner.. Whichever..Rang SAMURAI, Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, at 3pm with an order - EASY, QUICK and FRIENDLY [and they close for lunch at 3.30pm] NO PROBS..Picked up:3 x 10 piece packets of assorted Chumaki [sliced medium sushi] - $7 pack1 x serve Fried Chicken - $4.501 x serve Fried Fish - $4.501 x serve mixed Tempura - $7.503 x serves Teriyaki Chicken with Steamed Rice - $9 each -Sushi nice and fresh; generously filled; rough - a good sign - definitely hand made..-Fried chicken and fish delish; crisp panko crumbs; fish fillet a bit too thin; needed a sachet or two of Kewpie mayo..-Mixed Tempura was yummo, as usual; a nice long fat prawn. a plump piece of white fish, a thick cake of potato, and my fave - a handful of carrots and onions dipped in tempura batter and fried like a fritter; also needed Japanese mayo..-Teriyaki Chicken was generous; all chicken, tender, strongly flavoured [as it is in Japan]; steamed Japanese rice soaked up all the juices..The three of us had a 3 course, pretty authentic, well-cooked, tasty, satisfying Japanese lunch for $64.50 - If that's not fabulous value for money, then I don't know what is..!The take-away dishes give you a good indication of what it'd be like to eat-in...I reckon I'll be giving them a 5 out of 5 when that happens...Visited on Tuesday 16 Feb 2016 for a take-away lunch.

Recent renovation is a bonus, it doesn't add to the consistent taste of this Hawthorn locals favourite.Nothing fancy, all the usual Japanese fares, hence we tend to order the same food over and over again. Can it be one of the best value for Japanese food?WELL DONE!
Be the first to ReplyYour basic food court quality sushi.
Excessively salty udon. Rolls feature "crab stick". Teriyaki chicken was dry under the sauce and nori on the salmon roll was soggy, obviously prepared well in advance. On the positive side the staff are very nice and it's not expensive. Whether or not you like this place will depend a lot on what kind of Japanese food you are used to. Good for a family I guess, as long as the kids aren't too picky.Complimentary tea. No BYO or alcohol license.

Awesome sushi rolls. The BEST eggplant miso paste dish ever. Fresh salmon. 3course meal deal and drink is $15.I love this place, the food is really good and the service very fast - you can get in and out in 30min. Lots of people who go tend to wear trackies, I imagine its full of uni students during the day, but I have taken my grandma and parents for dinner and everyone is a huge fan.Good for footy player spotting too.. we like that.

Fresh food and prompt service. Can't go wrong with a dinner box for $15. Ensure you book as it is always busy.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, fast service and reasonable price.
Quite busy, may need to book in advance on some nights.

My friend and I came here for dinner about 30 minutes before closing time and they were happy to accommodate us. Bonus points~Ambiance: A nice and modest restaurant that's clean with cute napkin holders. Don't come here for anything fancy though.Customer Service: I really liked the customer service for several reasons:a) The woman who served us was very friendly and attentive.b) The food came out pretty quickly.c) I love the whispyness of Japanese accents.Food: I had a really worth-your-money bargain dinner box for $16 which gave me soup, entree, main, and dessert. SO FILLING and so worth the money. I ended up choosing:Miso SoupGyozaChicken Curry-DonGreen Tea Ice-CreamAll of it delicious!---I highly rate this place and would recommend it to anyone who loves Japanese food.
