I had a delivery yesterday.
One items was a chocolate babka. It was already not fresh. The brook trout was so,so. This was disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyWhile this Russ and Daughters may be a little bit of a trek
While this Russ and Daughters may be a little bit of a trek to the middle nowhere Brooklyn, there really isn't much of anything else around this location, this Russ and Daughter affords a much better customer experience. The staff are always so friendly and accommodating, the food is the same quality and fresh. The kitchen is seen through the huge windows even though to be honest I've never really seen it in action as most times I've gone on weekends, it's generally empty. Another added benefit here is indoor seating as well as outdoor onsite in the building. My favorites are the Chopped Liver (yes, chopped liver is great and I like Chopped Liver), Latkes and Matzah Ball soup that I always grab to get me back on track when I'm under the weather. Their Matzah Ball soup is a must when you are sick!
Be the first to ReplyBest bagels and lox ever.
The egg salad is also exceptional. Just pricey but worth the jaunt.
Be the first to ReplyI try to make it a point to get myself over to the cafe
I try to make it a point to get myself over to the cafe every time I'm in New York and when I am not in New York and crave it-I order it through Gold Belly. Everything is fresh and delicious and prepared just as it should be and it is perfection! The servers are friendly and helpful and are very attentive. Although there is almost always a wait--It is worth the wait. I love the sable. I had not had it before but it is very nice. When I go with my family we usually get one of the platters so that we can taste a variety of things.

Our first visit to Russ & Daughters and we were at Navy Yard. Loved the fresh bagels and wide array of smoked fish choices, the delicious chopped liver, the many choices of rugelach and babkas, and the service was so pleasant. NYC prices but that's the way it is.

Being a member of the tribe, having traditional Jewish food is a must when visiting NY. And there is not a more Jewish food that reflects the grandeur of my people that the humble bagel. Yum!
Be the first to ReplyGood but expensive.
And slowwwww. So so slow. People trying to get to work don't stop here you'll be late.
Be the first to ReplyStill the best smoked fish in town.
You don't come here for the bagels, but the lox is expertly sliced and perfectly smoked. The whitefish salad is the best in town, mostly fish, not overly salty, and barely held together with mayonnaise. Not cheap, but this is the real deal. The Brooklyn location is much less crowded and touristy, and the bakery is fun to see.
Be the first to ReplyI made a DoorDash order, which took almost 2 hours.
Luckily, I had the patience for it. I ordered the classic Bagel & Lox ($18) with gaspe nova, tomatoes, onions, and scallion cream cheese on an everything bagel. The bagel was good, but nothing too special. I have had bigger bagels in NY for the same price with more filling.Overall, pricey breakfast for a lox bagel. It didn't taste any more special than if I made this at home myself.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to eat but I want to lodge a complaint.
After standing on line waiting patiently to be served, I was overlooked on a number of occasions with a few of the guys looking past me on line to take an order from the person behind me. At this point I felt like this was racially motivated as all these guys kept going to the (lighter) person behind. I was about to walk away when I was eventually helped by Michelle who was professionally immaculate in her handling of my situation and complaints. Don't know if I will be back at this establishment in the future.

Foods good but found a bit of egg shell in my matzoh ball and one of the ruggulahs had a small piece of wax paper in it. Seems like there needs to be more quality control. Bagel and lox was amazing.
Be the first to ReplyNot good service.
Came in yesterday an unusually warm NOV day. I approached clerk saying "I'd like 2 everything bagels, what can I put on this"? Clerk advised me even saying "That's enough Salmon for 2 Bagels". I took a Bag given to me without my Bagels. I went to DUMBO on my Bike opened bag discovering I only had Salmon & Chopped liver! I was forced to return to R&D.I was met with HUGE attitude from this same clerk who then told me to wait! After being there 40 Minutes earlier, after his mistake, after losing time in my precious Day lost? I explained this and Clerk "Says you didn't pay for them what's the problem?Clerk could not admit the mistake by simply saying Sorry. Clerk could not finish my transaction by getting the Bagels himself. Instead he had another Clerk finish his mess. Show now empathy only apathy to my situation! This Tall Clerk with beard, with the forgetfulness, and bad attitude is reason I won't return. LES is now my go to until staff is trained better!
Be the first to ReplyMy better half was in NYC and close to Russ and Daughters
My better half was in NYC and close to Russ and Daughters so he brought us home two kinds delicious smoked salmon (Irish and Gaspe), some caviar cream cheese, bagels and elderflower Swedish fish. Heaven! The salmon was perfectly sliced transparently thin. And the quality of their products is evident in every bite. If you go here, you will find it hard to go elsewhere for the same. Can't wait to get some more.
Be the first to ReplyNO Stars this would be a more accurate review.
Bagels are stale are require toasting.Smoked salmon is pre-sliced, dry & way too salty. Counter staff is either slow and incompetent. Just yesterday, a line was forming. One counter person was helping a customer. The other two were smoothing out the cream cheese.I asked one if he could help, he agreed.Me: Sesame bagel, toasted lightly, plz, w/plain cream cheese and smoked salmon. He: Lox?Me: No, smoked salmon, please. He: You said Everything bagel?Me: SESAME bagel, toasted lightly. He: cuts the sesame bagel, inserts into toaster.4 minutes pass...Me: I think that's enough. He: No, Lady, it (sic) not ready. He removes and it is CHARRED.Me: I asked for it toasted lightly, not burnt! He tosses bagel #1 into trash. He inserts bagel #2 into toaster.Removes it when I ask.He starts shmearing SCALLION cream cheese.ME: please! I asked for PLAiN cream cheese.HE: No, you didn't. ME: please! I'm allergic to scallions.Bagel #2 is tossed into garbage. I'm now very late for work Another clerk steps in to help, She makes it perfectly, exactly as I'd asked. It cost $18.00...For a stale bagel, with pre-sliced, not-fresh & overly chilled smoked salmon with a tasteless tomato that took 25 minutes. NEVER GOING BACK.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has been off my radar but it's so amazing.
The smoked sable, the nova and the bagels are all great. Save room for some babka.
Be the first to ReplyThese aren't bagels.
They're bread in the shape of bagels. So strange that such a supposedly classic spot has really grocery store textured bagels. Ya need a bagel recipe to make this spot what ya wanna be.
Be the first to ReplyThe tuna salad is the best.
The variety and quality of their smoked fishes is exceptional as is the service. Buy the fish and the salads but skip the bagels. Very expensive but you can't get this stuff elsewhere.

Hands down best lox bagel in the city! And I've tried several! Must go here if you want a lox sandwich.

I came here since I was in the area for temp work and wanted to try the Russ Daughters hype. I never been to the original location since it is out of the way and I hear super busy. I got the 15$ Lox everything bagel and it was good but definitely not worth 15$. I had lox bagel all over south Brooklyn and compared with so many other bagel spots the bagel and lox here was a bit below par with other places. The everything bagel was good with a lot of seasoning and the flavor of the creme cheese and lox was good. But the bagel was tiny small and the amount of lox they put in the bagel was offensive. Like 3 thin flimsy wet budget toilet paper. What makes matters worst was that the staff was slower than other places in acknowledging the customer and saying hello to the person on line. It was not even busy. I will try the Manhattan location someday but this place is a bust.
Be the first to ReplyThe place is located in a large food hall and office
The place is located in a large food hall and office building. I was pretty pumped to try it since they are so known. When walking in they have windows for their kitchen so you can see how everything is made which is pretty cool. I ordered a everything bagel with pastrami cured salmon, tomato, and scallion cream cheese. The bagel was soft and fresh, not as flavorful as I wanted but still good. For nearly 18 dollars I expect a bigger sandwich. I was pretty disappointed by the portion size. Overall it was a good sandwich but I'd definitely wouldn't waste my time coming back. There is plenty of other options in Brooklyn that are much better and definitely cheaper.

Took the ferry for the nice skyline views and ended here in Brooklyn. In New York, a bagel doesn't count as a full meal and its a standard to start your day so naturally we went to Russ & Daughters. Price is higher, but seems like they use quality ingredients and spruce up a standard lox with caviar or ikura. One was the Super Heebster with whitefish and baked salmon with horseradish dill cream and wasabi flying fish roe. Definitely elevated, on the saltier side, but I enjoyed it all! Toasting of the bagel so the fried garlic aroma fills the air is top notch. This location has lots of space to order/wait for your order. Came early in the AM, was not busy and staff was friendly to answer questions, and they were kind enough to cut them into pieces for us -- a much cleaner job than we would have done!
Be the first to ReplyVery mixed experience with seriously questionable,
Very mixed experience with seriously questionable, stressful customer service. ย After the sudden death of a dear friend, I wanted to bring a platter to a shiva call. I read the website and it seemed I needed to call in order to order catering (and that shiva calls were exempted from the 3 day lead time - I was in fact calling with 5 days' notice, so even though it was the holiday, I assumed it would be fine). I called, and Rebecca, the catering manager fibbed and said I could just order catering online.I spent 20 minutes looking and couldn't for the life of me find where to order catering through the online system. I called back, reached someone else and was told that the ONLY option was to order online because due to covid, they would not be able to provide any catering. I begged, I pleaded. A vague sense of sympathy but decidedly unmoveable. So, I went ahead and placed the order and went out and purchased platters to prepare it further myself. Then, 2 days before the delivery, I received a call from Rebecca, who said my order date would no longer work and I had to call back to rearrange, not leaving a number or extension. Their phone system was changed to remove the option to reach someone for ordering so I spent 15 stressful minutes pressing numbers at random trying to find a way to get through to someone in the store, thanks to Rebecca's careless disregard and lack of effort to make things right. When I finally reached her, she was SO RUDE. Couldn't care less. I explained that I don't have a car and was planning on picking up the food on my way to the shiva call and now would have to take an additional 2 hours to get to the Navy Yard on New Year's Day to pick up the order. She was awful. Wouldn't waive the delivery fee. Then, she entered the date in wrong and set the order up to be delivered on the 31st at a time when I wasn't even home. Again, frantic calls, and finally, got through to someone else, who fixed the delivery and admitted this whole fiasco was exactly that. A total lack of care from start to finish.Guess what? Their fish is great, so that's the only reason this isn't getting a 1 star review. It makes me mad to admit it, but I will because that's what most people care about. Their rugelach was good, not great. I couldn't order bagels since they wouldn't be fresh. But no platters, no extra stuff to have with the fish, and the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have experiences in a very long while. Covid or not, treat me like a human being. They didn't. Rebecca didn't. I hope someone at the location will actually read the review since she made very clear that complaining would do nothing since there was noone else to ask for help. I certainly will never rely on them in the future for any catering.
Be the first to ReplyDiscovered the awesome Russ & Daughters of Houston Street
Discovered the awesome Russ & Daughters of Houston Street has a location in Brooklyn... Only discovered it by chance when mapping the route to Wegman's for my cousin in Forest Hills. Now there are TWO reasons to come to the trendy Brooklyn Navy Yard: Wegman's & Russ & Daughters. All the great appetizers you find at the Houston Street location are here in Brooklyn! You can order in person as a "walk in" but expect a wait**. Here is a top: Order in advance online... your order will be ready and waiting for you with no wait! I was very pleased with everything! ย Delicious & Fresh!!** A word about Russ & Daughters: This is NOT a corner deli where you can get a crappy sandwich in 2 minutes. I noticed some of the poor reviews don't realize this. Russ & Daughters is an old school Jewish Style APPETIZING STORE ... NOT (repeat NOT) a corner "deli"; Many customers are here for the expertly wafer thin sliced smoked fish items and schmears and salads. Each needs to be prepared and weighed. Yes! This does take time and there are long waits for walk ins. (The food is worth it, though). Russ & Daughters also doesn't sell the supermarket grade, pre-packaged products found at your corner deli... the items here are freshly cured and prepared by Russ & Daughters. It is worth every penny. That is why I pre-order online. It doesn't cost any more and your order will be waiting for you.
Be the first to ReplyGood service and delicious lox bagels.
They have a good variety to choose from. There was a line that moved fairly quick.
