Rooftop at Nobu is a great spot for casual drinks and bites
Rooftop at Nobu is a great spot for casual drinks and bites all while having a nice view of the city! I'd recommend ordering to share so you can try more things! The food was very good but you can def find food just as good or even better for 1/2 the price. It's more for the vibes. The dishes that stood out to me the most were the truffle fries which were a special at the time, and their infamous spicy tuna crispy rice. I also ordered their yellowtail nigiri and it was so soft! I'd love to come back and dine in the actual restaurant for a special occasion!

This rooftop has an amazing view of the city sky line and the rooftop has enough seating and standing area to accommodate a large group of people. I ordered a strawberry mocktail. The bartender was extremely skilled and created beautifully presented drinks.

Be the first to ReplyNobu rooftop inside was a 7/10.
Would love to see the outdoor part in the summertime, I think that would be a better set up. The food was good, tiny bites that pack a punch in terms of flavor. Favorite was the tuna nigiri. Cocktails were good too. Service was fine.

If you have been to other Nobu locations, do not expect the same elevated level of service here. I was celebrating my birthday as noted in the reservation notes which wasn't once acknowledged by the hostess or server. Even half decent restaurants do this. So we did not stick around for dessert or even a second drink.. Nonetheless, the views and vibes were great. Food was delicious too. We really enjoyed the yellowtail jalapeño and black miso cod. I doubt we will be back as there are many other Chicago restaurants at a high price point with incredible service. This isn't one of them unfortunately.

This is the most amazing rooftop restaurant I have been to in Chicago with the best food, drinks, music, crowd etc. we had a great time here at our anniversary. We had the beef dumplings, tuna and salmon nigiri sushi and avocado salmon rolls and all of them were amazing. Don't miss out on this gem!
Be the first to ReplyWould not recommend coming here for anything but the view.
Food and beverages took 30-45 mins to come out (if ever). Additionally, we had a few serious food allergies in our party, to which some of the staff said they could accommodate, but the majority of staff had was unable to confirm with certainty what had the allergens. Even if the prices were average, it would still be unacceptable. At $150 pp, it is reproachable.

Slow service, awful food! Plates came out cold, very disappointing. Drinks and food way overpriced
Be the first to ReplyThe 2 stars are because the food and drinks are delicious.
It's a bit on the pricier side ($10 for one piece of crispy rice with tuna) but that is expected considering it is Nobu. I have stayed at the Nobu hotel before and was given great and accommodating service as a hotel guest. If you are not staying at the hotel however, and just want to get food and drinks with friends the experience is opposite. I made a reservation for 6 people for a birthday dinner. We had another friend who wanted to join us so I called Nobu to add another person (you can't change it on Open table and it states to call) and had no one answer. There was an email listed as well so I decided to email since I couldn't get in touch via phone call. A few days later I tried to call again and had no one answer but it did state to leave a detailed message and someone will contact you. I left a detailed messages with my name, reservation time and date and that I wanted to add a person to our table. I stated that if this does not work for some reason to please contact me back otherwise if they could just update it that would be great... no one ever contacted me back. The day before the reservation, I get a message to confirm my table for 6 with no added guest. Finally I get ahold of someone the day of the reservation and explain that I emailed and called to add a person, which the lady on the phone said there's nothing they can do and they are booked. I asked if they could add a chair and that we don't mind squeezing in the couch area which she still said no because the manager doesn't like people squeezing in... I asked if we could split into 2 tables or move to the restaurant instead of the rooftop. We finally settled on moving into the restaurant indoors at a later time and if that didn't work then I would be charged $25 per person ($150) to cancel! My party ended up being accommodated easily and nicely at a Hogsalt spot near by for dinner, and then we went to Nobu for a drink after to avoid the $150 cancellation. We would have been spending lots more on dinner here but it didn't work out. You would think for the price that you pay at Nobu and for the status that they have, they would be nicer and more accommodating to people.

Drinks are great, don't get me wrong! However, the staff is very inattentive and rude! Sometime ya wanna baby shake people to help pull the head out of the ass but some folks just don't get it! Cocktails are good! Service...meh!!!

Not really as great as advertised they definitely lack lack in great service based on my waitress at the time. Also, the menu lacks options very small menu was truly not impressed given this is such a recognizable name. I would say it was great for a drink, and nothing else we were truly disappointed.
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly a not-so-crowded spot on a weekend night.
It's enclosed in the winter, but it was still a nice swanky spot for drinks and bites. The cocktails are excellent but expensive ($20). We tried a spicy salmon roll and taradito (sashimi in ponzu sauce). Both were delicious and perfect with our nightcap. It was cool how there was a chill dj as well!

This was probably the worst Nobu experience to date. Night and day difference from Malibu, Vegas, and NYC. Management was on their phones all night and I did not see them touch any tables or check in on their guests. The level of service at Malibu and Vegas made me feel like I was a Kadashian. Everybody was so tentative and the managers all stopped by every table to make sure to show and feel that NOBU was NOBU. Service came from the heart. Chicago on the other hand.. it was cold as ice. Observing, there was no relationship between the management and servers. I also come from a hospitality background so I like to observe the little things. Management was literally watching a game on TV and on his phone the whole time. I only write this so you can become a better manager for your team. If you know better, you can do better I hope. However, there was one server who tried to be accommodating but everyone else was non existent. Food: The portions were tiny and we left starving after dropping $450. I don't mind dropping anything for amazing food, service and aesthetics but Chicago nobu missed the mark on it all. Hot dishes became cold and some of the items were really salty. Welcome to Chicago but you need to step it up. We don't play here. We have so many other establishments we can go to that rival you if not better like Momotaro and Roka Akor. So many omakases are offered in the city too! This city has fresh sushi all over. You just tainted Nobu's name and reputation and what a shame that it was the Chicago ROOFTOP location to do so. Get off your phone, look around and be there for your staff. Maybe if you touched tables, you would've had an opportunity to turn it around.
Be the first to ReplyHigh society, high class, swanky, and sophisticated.
All these describe how you'll feel hanging out on Nobu's rooftop. It's a stellar spot to grab a drink or a bite with friends. We went for an after dinner cocktail with a small group and it was the perfect setting we were looking for to end the night. A major contributing factor was the weather as we lucked out with a spectacular offering. But the locale itself is very nice (decor) and popular with people of all types. A true melting pop in all the best ways.Able to secure a table off to the side we all settled in and chatted away while sipping delicious beverages. A wide array of cocktails and wine was indulged upon and it was all aces. As was the service, which stands out in my mind as it was busy while we were there. What a time we had here, one that I cannot wait to recreate sometime soon. I hope!

I'm reading some other reviews and see people are mentioning the high price- have you been to Nobu? I don't think they're aiming to be a value restaurant. I am constantly impressed by the service here. Drinks (cocktails) can be a miss, so can some food items. However, they are extremely consistent and my boyfriend and I have learned what items we love. At night the view overlooking the city is beautiful. No complaints from me. And this is coming from someone who thinks Nobu restaurants are overrated.

Perfect spot to enjoy a drink at night and take in the night time view scenery of the city! This place exuded the best vibes! Service was great. The music was on point tonight's as the DJ, indicated that he understood the assignment. Our drink of choice for the evening was the Ichigo 75. Bourbon that is incredibly smooth; it's my go-to. The Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce and the Shrimp Tempura Maki were enjoyed as our shared plates. The price for the Rock Shrimp was a bit high for the portion served. Nonetheless, there was nothing not to like.

The rooftop was a fun vibe and I really liked how it was reservations only and not overly crowded like most rooftop bars. Ordered drinks and Wagyu Dumplings, which were worth $32 for four pieces. Heads up, if you also have reservations downstairs, you will have to pay separately for the rooftop, but you can bring your drinks downstairs.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a cool atmosphere with great city views.
The service was slow that kind of killed the . Drinks were ok.
Be the first to ReplyThis rating is 90% based on the VIBES not the food.
Went with some friends for a birthday celebration and we enjoyed ourselves. We got the cucumber rolls, salmon avocado rolls (which didn't sit well with my stomach) and the edamame. Outside of the salmon rolls, the cucumber rolls and edamame were fine, nothing crazy. I loved the DJ that was playing, I was not expecting that! Overall, really great vibes and beautiful views. I will probably go back but not get anything to eat. Perfect place to celebrate birthdays (with a small group) or go on a date. Also, this is in a great area where there are plenty of restaurants that you can also hit up after for larger servings of food.
Be the first to ReplyPlace was half full.
Couldn't make room for 1 person at the bar claiming only taking reservations. Last time I checked a bar that's empty has room for 1 patron. Girl was condescending and not helpful at all.
Be the first to ReplyCame for a girls evening.
My one positive is that our server was very nice and knowledgable about the menu. I had the smoke and mirrors drink. It's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on that will help bring out the flavor in this drink. I ordered shrimp tempura roll. It has asparagus in it. That was an interesting menu choice. It wasn't a horrible taste, but one I could have done without. I had the Nobu style cesar salad. The dressing was missing something, seasoning would've helped. It lacked flavor. There were mini breadsticks? around the salad. It did nothing for presentation. They also lacked seasoning so tasted horrible and were a poor sub for croutons. The total $53, and I am completely underwhelmed. The DJ was meh. They could decorate better on the rooftop. Lights would probably help. The food is overpriced, lacks flavor, and I'M STILL HUNGRY!

We came here to celebrate my bestie's birthday on a Friday evening. Make reservations! The rooftop is separate from the full Nobu restaurant, so unfortunately the food selection was very limited. My personal favorites were the crispy shiitake salad and assortment of maki. The shiitake salad surprised me with the variety of textures and delish citrusy flavor. The maki was simple and fresh. I had HIGH HOPES for the famous rock shrimp dish and although it was good, I didn't think it lived up to the hype. If they elevated the ambiance of the rooftop and extended the food menu, I may consider coming back. Overall, I imagine the other Nobu establishments are better, but this is worth a try!

They have early closing hours but the space is cute and I love the music. The food selection is ok. Drinks are pretty good though.
Be the first to ReplyI'm from LA so I know what I'm talking about.
This location does not do the Malibu Nobu justice. For starters there's no ambient or proper mood lighting in place, there's just darkness. The overall vibe is ok but they could've really made this place shine with a good lighting designer and complimentary furniture. The drinks are good, their liquid to ice ratio is on point. very much frou frou, they need to bring the rooftop to its fullest potential. Take inspo from the Malibu location, elevate it, it just looks like a dark room with no vibe.
Be the first to ReplyCool, hip place on top of the Nobu Hotel.
Nice selection of sakes and cocktails. It's not a huge area, although there is an outdoor are that we did not visit because we were there in a chilly evening. Hostess was a bit frigid, but the waitstaff was warm and inviting. Kind of feels like this is the place to "see and be seen" at.
