Nice place, friendly staff but food a let down For being in the heart of Southall you would expect better food The parents tasted if they were frozen and cooked

Loved it. Sophisticated dining in a casual homey setting. You feel like a guest in their home. Food was excellent. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyA homely ambiance with high quality food and wine.
Fantastic ambiance and quality of food. Original recipes with very good wine pairings. Very friendly host with good suggestions for restaurants along our trip through New Zealand. We will certainly recommend this restaurant to friends and people who will visit Wellington.

I’ve eaten here before and the food is always great. My meal last night was fantastic! See menu in the photo. The tuna main and plum desert were superb! The extra plates were delicious. I can’t wait to go back!!

Next day T: what did you think? Me: Well, the dessert was the weakest part for me. T: It's not what I would order Me: It's not what most people would probably order Its 6 years since our return and 6 years ago, I had a very disappointing experience (documented on TA). Prior to booking, I did express that I hoped my experience would be improved (it was the birthday boys choice for dining). Rita's is extremely popular and they bookings are limited and first sitting time for a Saturday night is 5:30 pm (for 2 hours). It is a set menu of starter, main and dessert with a few optional extras (e.g. starters and a salad). It is prix fixe at $95 which compared to other dining options in town is questionable as to it good value or otherwise. The 2 wait staff offered very good and prompt service. Drinks, a Maude bubbly and 2 Tiny's. Bouch were amused with spinach and pinenut tarts; we also ordered 3 duck and cheese croquettes and plum sauce, delicious at $12.50 each. Starter was Heirlom tomatoes with goats cheese, radish and herbs (dill, coriander and mint), very nice. Main: Pork belly, baby turnips, broad beans taragon, broth served with bread, also very nice. Dessert was billed as Elderflower, Spanish Cream (you're right, never had that offered on a menu before). Having had it, I would not rate it (it is definitely NOT Crema Catalan) and I do not think the Spanish have it in their dinng repetoire. It reminded me of junket, it is a milk based dessert with a mousse texture and a layer of gelatin on top, this was served with 3 ladies fingers and some marinated strawberries. Once again (as noted in my 2017 post), not sweet enough and lacked any discernible flavour. (I definitely do not have a sweet tooth whatsoever, but a dessert should be somewhat sweet?? Overall, the meal was okay, I don't think its worth the $95 bearing in mind that with a number of good dining places (in Wellington) less can be paid for far more choice and variety to my liking. The meal was great until the dessert. Not rushing back, not recommending either.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious find in Wellington!
We were lucky to get a local’s recommendation as Rita doesn’t come up on many of the searches for Wellington. But what a gem to find! Small restaurant with only 24 covers but simple set menu with option of adding extras. Great wines, but no cocktails. Efficient kitchen and two wait staff keep the diners happy. Menu is seasonal and changes daily so you know you’re getting the best. Tempura asparagus was a sensation, as was the goat cheese entree. The hapooka fish and clams main was to die for. That sauce was buttery and so umami. Finished off with pavlova and strawberries- crisp and delicious. Thanks for an amazing evening to end our short trip to Wellington.
Be the first to ReplyA tiny and perfect night
A short walk from the city centre this tiny gem is a delight. Operating two sittings of a set three course menu enables them to produce quality meals. Pop next door to the Garage Project for a beer first.
Be the first to ReplyA caveat
Great food, amazing service, priced as to be expected for that level of premium dining. A caveat: because of too many tables in a confined space, it is extremely noisy, so, don't dine there if you plan to have a quiet conversation.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome Night Out
In my 81 years and at least 60+ years of dining out in many places in this world Rita claims top spot by a country mile. To see staff enjoying interacting with patrons so professionally and in such a fun way made our dining out experience special, that was a bonus. Words can’t describe the meal itself - divine + doesn’t do the menu justice. Would love to return every time I visit the Capital.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific service, great food. Yum
A hidden gem in Wellington. Menu changes daily. We had an entree of lonza radicchio (home-made cured ham in cheese bread stick), and snapper tartare. A mains of roasted duck leg with cabbage, and a dessert of parsnip creme caramel. All very well seasoned and expertly cooked. This is easily one of the best dinning experience we had in Wellington. Service was superb. A++

Warm and efficient service which does not intrude on your conversation. Sublimely balanced menu, fresh and tasty, accompanied by an imaginative wine list. A small restaurant run along the lines of a European "Private Kitchen", the owner and chef collaborate on a unique menu each night. Highly recommended.

Be the first to ReplyA tiny gem in the Aro Valley
This is a very special little restaurant. They take great care and concern with everything they put on the table. Service is competent and friendly. The wine list matches the meal perfectly. This is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in Wellington.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful service & great food
I seldom write a review for restaurants but I felt that this place really deserved one. The food was excellent, imaginative and delicious. The service was excellent, and you can tell that the owners really cared about ensuring that their patrons had a great experience. I'll definitely go back to visit if I'm in Wellington again.

Outstanding food, service and ambience as per usual. Dined here a number of times and really can't fault the place on any aspect. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent set menu in Te Aro
Rita is in a tiny cute little old cottage in Te Aro and has a 3 course set menu with optional extras. We opted to start with a starter of mozzarella, grapes and fennel, before launching into a delicious venison carpaccio in horseradish and caper sauce (with a beetroot swap out option), then kingfish on ratatouille, and we opted for a side of perfectly roasted potatoes in an anchovy dressing. Dessert was passion fruit bavarois with raspberries and pistachio biscuits. All excellent.

Everything about this place was to die for. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a dinner in a friends lounge and the staff were knowledgeable, warm & welcoming. The wine list small but mighty (we opted for a glass of La Lavee & a bottle of Paul Jaboulet Cote du Rhones) and the food! THE FOOD. We opted to get all three of the supplementary dishes to go alongside our set three courses. The fig & goats cheese entree was phenomenal, as was the venison with pastrami spices and pickles. The pork agnolotti was a flavour sensation and particularly warming as the weather cools into Autumn. The albacore tuna main was rich and warming, served with the freshest of vegetable ragout and perfectly matched with the wax bean side. To finish, we had the passionfruit bavarois - it was perfectly balanced - not too sweet and perfectly paired with slightly sour raspberries to cut through the creaminess. We were recommended a surprise glass of something to accompany it - a glass of sweet peachy decadence (made in house). We couldn't fault a single thing and cannot wait to return.

Love this place! Excellent, friendly staff. Food is to die for, and love not having to look at a menu. Love the atmosphere. Special place to go with special people.

Tasty fresh and yummy food. Our family dined at Rita during Te wiki o te reo Maori. Really appreciated their descriptions of each course in te reo. We enjoyed all the plates and they were well matched with the wine suggestions. Loved the asparagus, beef short rib and the sheep’s milk panna cotta. Loved the Talking Heads music playing in the toilet. Look forward to dining here again.
Be the first to ReplySublime experience
Four of us, 2 couples went for dinner, small intimate restaurant which was pumping, I could see why as we worked through the set menu which was superb. Just to say the tables are fab with drawers that open at either side where you select your cutlery. The five course meal was exceptionally good! Each course distinctive, an incredible third course of trevally thinly sliced with shavings of crisp greens and lime gave you a sublime Tangaroa experience, too much to say about each course, each one was excellent, a delight. We were surprised and never disappointed with each one. Pretty good for 5 courses, this was a stand out food experience for us. Care and respect given to all ingredients created with aroha & combined to provide diners a luxuriously balanced experience of offerings beautifully presented which combined deliciousness alongside sensations of restrain & replete, this repeated with each course. The service was excellent, attentive and intuitive, and courses were perfectly timed. I would definitely recommend and would return. Way to go Aro Valley!! Ka nui te mihi
