Lousy service for a star restaurant
After weeks of waiting, the moment we've been waiting for was finally here. We were welcomed at the entrance in neat clothing. The hostess pointed us to the disabled toilet, but it didn't look like we would ever use it. Bit of a strange comment. Once at the table we were served by, how should I put it, inexperienced young waiters. This piled up throughout the evening. From sparkling water that we had not ordered to forgetting people at the table who had allergies. The icing on the cake was that we were advised not to take a cheese board because the staff themselves were full of it after they had taken it. To conclude, a drink with something in it that didn't belong here. After reporting it, there was a discussion that there was nothing in it. Do you really have no idea about service? We also received extra coffee that we had not ordered. Food was good but definitely NOT star worthy overall. We won't be coming back here again. Too bad, missed opportunity.
An experience that just missed something for us
Full of expectation - appropriately dressed as requested in the reservation - we arrive at Kaatje at the Sluis. So we were a bit disappointed that we were put at a table in a corner where no one had yet thought about the decoration. In addition to the fact that the tables were not covered with beautiful table side, something that I personally really appreciate, the wall near our table was quite dirty with stains and there was no nice painting or something similar on this wall. It seemed like a somewhat 'disadvantaged' bare niche. The decoration of the restaurant looks dated, but perhaps this is part of the desired appearance of the establishment, so let's place this under personal expectations. We have already visited a number of fine dining restaurants, both with and without a Michelin star, so we may be a bit spoiled or conditioned in terms of expectations. Let me say: all the dishes we were served from the Spectacle menu were all sublime and delicious! I even had to restrain myself from licking my plate with the lobster. It was a pity that the chef de cuisine did not introduce himself and I initially thought that the best man was part of the service so I could not compliment him personally. The unrequested 2nd bottle of table water was also served a little too quickly. And we think it is a mistake that the cup of coffee at the end is not provided as a standard pampering moment. That one chocolate or sweet gift makes a difference without having to talk about it. But as I have mentioned before, we see fine dining as a total experience, we like to feel pampered and enjoy the fine dishes as well as the ambiance and hospitality. Our expectations were high due to the name recognition, but we still left somewhat disappointed, we did not feel so spoiled in terms of experience this time. Quite a shame.
Super dinner in Blokzijl
Everything is right here! The ambiance, the service, the wines and drinks, the surprise 9-course dinner, quality and atmosphere! A large culinary feast with high quality from the moment you enter.
No party, too bad.
We had a 9 course appetizer dinner at Kaatje. Tasty dishes, well balanced and flavourful. The 'wine package half glasses' was a mockery, especially when the bill arrived. Six euros for a glass of wine is way too much. There were also 2 bottles of tap water (we saw them make it) for € 12.- and coffee with unsolicited chocolate for no less than € 30. The decoration of the restaurant is not star-worthy, more bistro. The meal was great, but it wasn't a party, which is a shame.
Great culinary experience with sour aftertaste
Not sure if I should share this story. Decided to do this anyway because I find the reaction from Kaatje in particular too sad: My wife turned 60 and she received a 9-course amuse package as a gift, including an overnight stay in the Residence. We were looking forward to it. Check-in at Residence very hospitable, beautiful stylish room with a view of Kaatje. Good start. In the evening we reported to the restaurant and we were politely received after informing us that we were coming to dinner based on a reservation/arrangement. Atmospheric but somewhat modestly decorated restaurant. After the first table assignment, we asked for another option where we both had a view of the entire restaurant. No problem (later it turned out that it did cause a problem). Only gems come out of the kitchen. They are fantastic culinary delights plate after plate. Result of craftsmanship. The service is also of quality. We enjoyed a beautiful evening! Certainly at Michelin star level. This changed like a leaf on the tree during checkout. We were charged the full bill, after which we reported that there had been a mistake and that we had eaten based on a prepaid package reservation. “No, the bill must always be paid” Stunned, we paid (nice if you use a gift in the form of an arrangement). Very disappointed and angry back to the Residence for the overnight stay. The next morning we had an extensive breakfast and no further surprises upon check-out. We reported our experience from the night before. This would be sorted out. Still sent an email (with evidence) just to be sure. In response, it was stated that due to the change of table, payment had gone wrong. Money was refunded. For a catering/Michelin star company, the manner of communication was businesslike and no excuses were offered. We enjoyed the food & drinks at Kaatje. Still, a sour aftertaste remains. Shame. Hence the poor rating.

Kaatje is a mouth pallet dance! We love it and go there once a year if we can because the food is great and the service super!

excellent price-quality ratio. (holiday auction deal) Interior needs replacing. friendly service. nice dishes. But don't know if it's Michelin worthy.
Again fantastic
This restaurant has become a permanent fixture for us when we want to pamper ourselves. The flavors are refined and delicious. Great service and reasonable prices in a nice location. There were a number of times where I actually wanted to lick my plate, the dishes were so delicious. The dish with Agree in particular was fantastic.
Not star worthy and therefore pricey
NOT STAR worthy, faded glory. My visit to “Kaatje bij de sluis” had been on my bucket list for decades. Experience Interior: When we enter, we cannot open the front door because the front door is stuck. Decor simple and functional, chairs are very used. The toilets are on the first floor, the men's toilet is simple and not a sit-down toilet, it is cold due to single glass, simple soap from ready-made soap pressure bottle from Kruidvat. Men's toilet only has 2 latrines and no toilet. The stair railing and related areas to the 1st floor are full of bare spots in terms of paint, a lick of paint would not be an unnecessary luxury. On the first floor there is a room where the carpet is extremely dirty with large dirty spots in the carpet. The accommodation is wheelchair unfriendly. Culinary experience: At 12:00 noon the very nice cheese trolley was already ready in the restaurant, my advice is to only place it in the restaurant with the main courses because many cheeses were running away due to the temperature in the restaurant, which also caused dried out edges. were eating the cheeses. The dishes were all very small and resembled a row of appetizers that were served, not exciting dishes or combinations. Personally, I found that quite disappointing. I found the matching wines mediocre and therefore downright expensive at nine euros per glass. A carafe of tap water costs six euros and without asking, a second carafe of water is placed on the table without pouring. When we were outside we were actually still hungry for something to eat somewhere. Service: Service is friendly/young, clearly instructed to generate extra turnover. They are very young and not handy when it comes to dealing with guests, they respond correctly but not to signals from life experience/hospitality. We also missed a clear point of contact such as a waiter or mâtre d' hotel/host. The service was otherwise attentive. Conclusion: Luch at € +/- 100 p.p. much too expensive Property needs maintenance Decor dated Service stiff/young and little experience Kitchen needs to be more exciting Not star worthy
Oustanding food, room to improve service
Food is superb! Absolutely marvelous. We had the 9 course surprise dinner and every course was great. My wife had the same experience with the vegetarian dishes. Be aware of all the extras they are trying to sell you. Such as champagne, a bottle of tap water, cheese for desert and coffee with chocolates. Staff is unfortunately mediocre.

I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Might depend on what market you're in? Some have not been developed yet and some are still growing. Make some reservations ahead of time and post them for sale and get ahead of the bot bids? IDK.
