Tower closes - and that's a good thing.
Another highlight from the negative series of full-bodied arrogance in Munich. Nothing is good here. Neither the abysmally bad service, nor the inconsequential food and the miserable, limited selection of drinks - but it is very overpriced. A typical tourist trap with the merciless overestimation of one's own abilities that has become so common in Munich these days. It's a good thing that this lousy restaurant hell is closing because the whole run-down place is finally being renovated. Hopefully then with a restaurant that puts Munich in a positive light. The basic requirement of an unbeatable location would be there.
View is good / food is mediocre and not filling
The view is what really makes it stand out here. The food and wine are good, both very manageable. Unfortunately, we weren't full. 3-course menu with portions smaller than a 6-course menu.

Very nice experience. The restaurant rotates all the time. The food was delicious and the service top notch. You can see all over Munich.
Expected more.
We ate as a group in the restaurant. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a large table together, despite registering in advance. The food was tasty, but not a high flyer. The waitresses are overwhelmed with allocating food to the guest. Since they otherwise did a good and relaxed job, we would have liked to have given a tip, but you have to have that with you in cash! I've never heard that tips can't be paid with a card... Bill sharing is no longer possible after a certain amount. (To know this you have to read the restaurant's terms and conditions in advance 😽 Nevertheless, going out to eat with a view like that was still worth it. But for me only once ✌️
has the right to exist
We pre-booked a restaurant for dinner before the concert. There were 10 of us, so we expected some fuss and confusion. We first read the reviews and got the impression that the food was ok, the service was bad, and the view was amazing. Our summary is that the food is good, the service is good, the view is no good. this view can be seen from any high place located inside the usual urban buildings. The food could have been rated excellent if it had not been overpriced, and the service was pleasantly pleasing considering the number of guests at our table and in comparison with previously read reviews. Conclusion: it’s worth going there only if you combine it with some kind of spectacular event in the sports arena, located a stone’s throw from the tower.
Impossible service
The food was OK, but the portions were too small for the price. We were served white wine instead of the red wine we ordered. One of our guests was very late due to a traffic jam on the motorway. She only got dessert. Apparently the kitchen was already closed. They couldn't even bring a cold starter. This is zero service, especially since the next shift was due to eat just a few moments later at 8:30 p.m.
Technical problem, lack of communication
I gave my husband a birthday dinner at Restaurant 181 because I thought the location was special. Especially with the rotating platform. That's why I made a reservation there and also left my contact details with a phone number and email address. When we got there, the lady who greeted us said there was a technical problem and the platform wouldn't rotate today. We were very disappointed. And there was no compensation from the restaurant as an apology. The restaurant should have told me this by phone and let us decide for ourselves whether we wanted to postpone the reservation. Because the food is good but overpriced in terms of quality, considering that the effect of the rotating restaurant wasn't there. I saw it once. I don't have to go back
Hot air
At the toilet, you are put in a queue in a glass booth under the influence of the smell shortly before 5.30 p.m. to wait until you are allowed in. Then you are led to your table. The choice of aperitif: Hugo, Spritz or Lilett rosa. Champagne? Sparkling wine? No. We chose this ridiculous wine pairing. Three courses means 3 x 0.1 wine for 36 euros. So 0.1 glass costs 12 euros!! Of an average Riesling. You don't get a refill, it's not included in the price. 0.1 red wine with the main course for the lamb is too little. Although, there were only two fatty lamb chops. When asked if they would pay for another glass, they didn't respond. The main course was OK. Starter unimportant, dessert overly sweet. I know haute cuisine differently. A total of three courses with wine for two people. A little water and an aperitif each. 275 euros!! I can buy a pound of caviar with that and champagne to go with it. Service was arrogant and unimportant. No wish was fulfilled. I would have liked more than 3x0.1 of undefined wine with my meal. A quarter of wine would have cost 30 euros if you extrapolate. Man, we were so disappointed. Almost 300 euros for little experience and mediocre food. I could have had a better experience somewhere else. 8.9 euros for still water from the carafe (tap water? Who knows) It's a shame. The customer is not king. But the operator is extremely profit-oriented. Sad!
bad service, bad food, great view
could not have been more dissapointed in our experience there. It was honestly one of the downers of our whole trip to munich. the view was awesome and the place was really cool looking and we were so excited. but our server obviously was very new. it took 45 minutes for us to even get our bottle of wine, which he couldnt even open right, and he was just very awkward, after breaking our cork he just smelled it himself and put it down on the table. after finally getting out food we were just plain dissapointed in it, it wasnt very good. then on one course there were supposed to be grated truffles on a soup and they were graded so thick they were like tree bark and couldnt be eaten. it got to the point where even when they did offer to re-do something that we didnt even want it any more. also this isnt really their fault too much but my wifes wine glass had a chip in it. and after the poor service and us being visible dissapointed in the food what we were offered in consolation was a free drink off the bar cart. and my wife asked for another glass of her wine as the conolation prize, and they told her she could only pick from the already open bottles of wine, so after all that, she couldnt even get the consolation drink she wanted. overall, we werent trying to be snobs but man that was a really expensive night for what we got.
A wonderful evening, good food, great service and a phenomenal view
A wonderful evening, thanks to Sunidi Chopra and the 181 team. Our condition was very attentive, courteous and friendly. We had the 4-course dinner experience, without wine accompaniment. But we didn't want to miss out on one or two wines - the service was first class. The food and its presentation were remarkably good and very tasty. ... and then the view, phenomenal. The evening was "gilded" with a beautiful sunset followed by a red sunset.
Eating at high altitude.
Surprisingly good. Nice experience. Special dishes with beautiful wine arrangements from good European wineries. Friendly and knowledgeable employees.
As always with such locations - reality and appearance ...
The location is the main focus, and nothing can hide it in bad weather. Only the main course of the 4-course menu was convincing. The starters were either unimaginative or tasted nowhere. The dessert is full of sugar - at 11 p.m. you should have something on the menu that is easier to digest. The service was friendly and helpful, but overwhelmed and understaffed. The waitress responsible for us had too many tables to look after. The food either came with long breaks (starters around 45 minutes) or quickly (main course around 10 minutes). Sometimes the staff stood in front of the table for minutes with tablets and food because the waitress was serving three tables away. All in all, very uncoordinated. To top it all off, there were the dirty toilets, which are also used by visitors to the platform. It should therefore be all the more clear that they should be checked regularly. All of this for a price of over 230,- without alcohol. Never ever...
