Be the first to ReplyA lovely restaurant with very friendly staff.
My daughter had read about the street cats of Istanbul and asked the waiter. They went to the kitchen and grabbed a dish of milk and took the kids across the street to see if they could coax the kittens out. The food was great, my youngest ordered some sort of chicken curry and although probably not exactly ethnically correct was some of the most tasty sauce I've ever had. I wanted to dip all of my roasted veg in it. All the food was good, but skip the dolmas and the kunefe. It was good but there is better out there.

Date of Visit: June 5 & 6th, 2021Rainbow Fish & Meat RestaurantNo compensation current or future was received for this review. I am a Yelp Elite so I am used to writing long detailed reviews whether on GR/YelpI stayed at the hotel (Azade) across from the restaurant. The restaurant has seating options for outside, inside floor 1, and an option for an enclosed open view terrace type option. The very first thing I must tell you is that this is a family owned and operated restaurant. The one brother I interacted with the most has a personality and exuberance which you will find hard to match anywhere. What he does for a living is his life and passion and it shows in everything he does and with everyone he has a conversation with. He knows everything about his restaurant and every dish in detail. He embodies customer care, quality and service. In this area the competition is extreme and in front of every restaurant is a person(s) standing outside to wrangle you inside. Quite a few of them are extremely pushy, or will make a snide comment if you say no, or simply keep walking. While this restaurant does do some asking for business it is done in a much more relaxed and jovial manner and you can tell in their voice and mannerisms its very genuine.Almost all of the buildings in this area have had many many birthdays. But they were made at a time where things were meant to last. The restaurant inside and outside have been refreshed with paint and decor. All of the tables, chairs, menus, grounds were very clean. The first day my friends and I ordered for lunch the large mixed kebab platter for 2-3 people. Our other companion ordered one of the steaks. I ordered a side of fries and bulgur pilavi as a side to the mixed platter. As a starter we order a plate of calamari. Some pitta bread, a yogurt based dipping sauce, and a tomato based dip were brought out while we waited. I apologize for not know the names on them. The lightly breaded calamari was perfectly cooked and delicious. The fries were very good. I had order some bulgur with a tomato base, but was brought a standard bulgur pilavi. It was very good, but I did want the other. We let them know and it was simply a matter of lost in translation is all, as they do not offer what I was asking to order. The mixed platter arrived. The chicken wings were cooked just right and absolutely nothing wrong with them, but were not to my own personal preference is all.The chicken chunks were very good, the kebab types were very good. The small chunk size pieces of lamb were good but two of them the "silverskin" was not removed. This makes for a very chewy and often inedible piece of meat. This should have been caught by the chef and removed prior to cooking. Once cooked it is near impossible to remove it due to the way it makes the piece of meat curl up and you end up wasting much of the meat when trying to cut it away. But most importantly it is very dangerous for small children due to them not being able to chew through it and their natural tendency is to just swallow the un-chewed piece of meat.Outside of the silver skin issue everything on the kebab mixed platter was wonderful tasting. Our companion must have enjoyed her steak because she left absolutely nothing on the plate. I could tell while she ate it that it was cooked to her requested specification of medium well. For dessert we received a piece of baklava and some tea, which is part of the restaurants complimentary options to all patrons. The 2nd day I ate there by myself for a very late supper.I spoke with the brother I had the previous day, and a couple other family members. A very nice conversation was had with all.For supper I tried the clay fire pot cook meal. What a tremendous show this is to watch. A portable fire stand is brought out and fired up.The small clay pot is filled with the meat of your choice, vegetables, and what tasted like a wine sauce. The pot is then cooked on the bed of coals with the chef pouring the hot coals over it until done. The clay pot has a separation point which is carefully beat on until it pops off. The pots contents are then poured into a very small wok like skillet which is kept over a small flame to keep it nice and hot. It was fun to watch the preparation of the meal. It was served with rice, on the side and pitta bread. Unfortunately half the pita was hard and completely inedible.I very highly recommend giving them a try if you are ever in the area. The 4 stars instead of 5 is based on the issue with the lamb silverskin, and the stale pitta bread the 2nd day. In fairness it was almost at closing time so the bread was potentially a full business day old. But I don't know if they make fresh throughout the day or not, but I hope so since it is so simple to make for them.
