Exceptional afternoon tea
Went here today and wow!!! Had the pret a portea. Sandwiches were fresh and varied. The stars of the show are the cakes just amazing tastes and flavours. Really high quality and so different. The service was exceptional attentive without pestering relaxed and a little bit of pomp and ceremony just what you want. Highly recommend this to anyone it’s different from any other afternoon tea and one of the best

We were excited to head to The Berkeley for the start of our honeymoon. We had booked our table months ago and had even chosen the venue over the afternoon teas on offer at the Savoy and the Ritz. What followed was to put it bluntly, a shambles. This was an unprofessional delivery from start to finish. We were ushered in upon arrival, and seated in what can be described as an experience similar to riding the London underground on a leash hour afternoon . We were approximately 20cms from the tables next to us. So much so, that one immediately lost the intimacy of a ‘romantic afternoon tea’ that we had been so looking forward to. I felt like pouring the tea for the ladies around us. You’re so close, that you constantly will hear the waiters giving the instructions to the table next to you, and then repeating the 850 pound handbag cliche joke to you, a minute later. Anyway, moving on. Our waiter, ‘who we think’ was designated to our table, couldn’t provide us any information on what was in each item, as he was new and ‘only five days into the job’. We found him cute and friendly nonetheless, but when we ordered scones, they never arrived, when we ordered coffee, we had to repeat the order. I mean, it became something out of a Fawlty Towers sketch. We laughed it off, but when the bill comes and you’re charged 20pounds for a service that was simply NOT delivered - it’s a bit of a disgrace. Whilst there is great talent in the creation of the pieces, and we enjoyed the insta-worthy nature of it all, the creations are extremely sweet and there is not much flavor past the initial sandwiches, in our opinion. The afternoon tea does not live up to the quality or service of what an afternoon tea of that price range should deliver in London. The only reason I haven’t given it a 1 star rating is because the booking process was easy, we were given chairs, and the sandwiches/tea/coffee were decent enough.

We had a family birthday celebration at the beautiful Berkeley Hotel. We ordered the Champagne Afternoon Tea and it was delicious. Great sandwiches and beautiful, tasty cakes from the Prêt à Portea range. Excellent, efficient service. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

Would highly recommend this, great experience. Unlike any other afternoon tea. Of course, the staff are extremely helpful and attentive at your every need. Some of the small cakes weren’t to my taste but that’s just me being picky.
Be the first to ReplyThe best afternoon tea I've had in London
I've done a few of the themed afternoon teas in London and this was by far the best! From the expensive crockery (what a luxury!), to the impeccable service (a lady called Adriana waited our table - she was wonderful and could not have been more helpful and professional), and the cakes and sandwiches were absolutely amazing! This afternoon is one of the pricier ones in London but having compared it to some others, it's worth every penny and is a real treat!

My Afternoon at The Berkeley was truly amazing and a beautiful experience. The Afternoon Tea sandwiches and cakes were so delicious, delicate and delightful. The theme was Spring/Summer and each cake had a theme and designer lovingly designed and produced to highest standards. Each had sublime and surreal flavour and just tasted divine. The selection teas to accompany were well thought out and the knowledge provided through each stage was excellently presented. The service we received from the door to table and throughout was truly superb, subtle and smooth. The staff throughout made this experience. Having tried many other Afternoon Teas this one and The Berkeley have taken top spot. Thank you for an amazing experience

I’ve eaten many afternoon teas but the flavours made this unique in a welcoming way. Delicious sandwiches (with more if you like) with a few flavours not usually found at other teas. Loved the variety of breads used too and the large selection of teas. This was followed by a pretty and tasty selection of delightfully designed cakes. Have to add an extra thank you for the birthday cake which was a lovely touch. Fantastic service throughout and would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing and overrated
I feel this afternoon tea is very overrated. The fact some of the cakes are shaped like handbags makes it seem special but really it isn’t. Once you get over that part the rest is pretty bad. Sandwiches were nice, the brioche and carpaccio were odd. Half the cakes were not that nice, and scones were extra. At £60 each I was shocked by the fact we were not offered scones which is traditional with afternoon tea. The service was also really poor, staff were not attentive at all. Towards the end of our tea while we were eating the cakes a lady sat in the seat next to us with a really small fishy main course. That was really off putting and stank out the room - why was she allowed to eat a main course with everyone else having afternoon tea! Great if you want the gimmick of fun shaped cakes, that’s all that was good about this tea sadly.

Excellent afternoon tea at the Berkeley hotel. Service is very friendly and professional. Your tea includes a flavoursome collection of elegant canapés and tea sandwiches as for your drink, choose a loose leaf tea from an extensive collection. Prêt-à-Portea is priced at £60.00 per person. Champagne Prêt-à-Portea, with a glass of Laurent-Perrier, £70.00 per person. Make sure to reserve ahead of time as it gets very busy. (Photos attached)
Be the first to ReplyWhat an AMAZING afternoon tea!
This has got to be one of the most phenomenal afternoon teas I have ever been to. It’s incredible! Went with a friend and had the festive champagne version; the cakes are just out of this world both in terms of design (they’re designed on famous couture outfits from that season - you can see the originals in the accompanying brochure) and taste. Because we had a little wait we also got a free top up of champagne from the super friendly staff member. I kind of don’t want to give too much away on this as the impact of seeing the cakes delivered to your table is just so good! There’s a super selection of teas and you’re given a cold one at the start to get your palette ready. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty. At £75 per head this is a real treat but one definitely a worthwhile one!
