Prime at Saratoga National Reviews from The Last Year
We used to eat here often growing up and always loved it.
Now, the service is horrendous (when you're spending $300+ on a dinner for 2, I expect to not be freezing, not wait 45 minutes for my check, AND they never refilled our drinks once. We had nothing to drink the whole meal). My steak came out raw but I couldn't send it back for a few more minutes to cook because we never saw our waiter. Save your money for somewhere that deserves your business. Prime certainly does not.
Weird service
We made reservations here for an early Valentines dinner. When we arrived we were seated in the bar section while there were tables available in the dining area. The bar area was noise with children crying, a mom and kid having a napkin war (while neither of those things are Primes fault the fact that we were seated there to begin with is the issue). For the first time in our life I asked our waiter for a different table. The hostess came back, said to follow her and the reason she didn’t give us a table in the dining room to begin with is because all their tables for two were between too other tables, so not very private. There are four issues with this: 1. We made a reservation 4 days prior, we didn’t walk in, so if you’re not going to seat someone at a certain table, don’t have a reservation available 2. It’s a lot easier to hear your date over the sound of a couple talking quietly at the next table than a baby crying and tvs showing the game in the bar area 3. If you’re not going to sit anyone at those tables than REMOVE THEM and space the tables out more to your liking 4. We saw at least 3 tables for four people that sat empty our entire meal. You could have seated us at any of those. Our meals were fine. Our waiter was bored. They were out of three of the six desserts so we didn’t spend money on that. For a $200 meal we were disappointed. We went for our anniversary several times precovid but it seems like the magic is gone from this place and after reading the other reviews no one seems to want to change things. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.
Not just for golfers
We prefer sitting at the bar because Mike is hands-down the nicest bartender in town. People are friendly and fun. Some are well-dressed, others more casual. All are well-mannered. The bar and happy hour menus change from time to time. Sure would be nice to see wings make a comeback. Parking is easy. Especially good choice during off-season when it’s easier to find an empty seat or two.
Highly Disappointed
Came for Restaurant Week. Waiter was attentive until main meal came & then we never saw him again. No water refills. No one asked if we wanted another drink. Which would’ve been another wine on our tab if he ever came back. Another server brought out our dessert. I asked for a refill on water, she said she would go get that right away. I was almost done with my dessert by the time she came back with the water. Also noticed the dessert plates were dirty. Highly disappointed. Wont be back.
What happened?
My husband and I celebrated our wedding here in 2018. At that time, everything about the restaurant and service provided through Mazzone was outstanding. We had only fond memories of our wedding, which was the last time we were here. For that reason, we did not see any reason to read recent reviews, which we now know that we should have. Fast forward to our 5 year anniversary- we made a reservation for dinner. Our good spirits were quickly diminished when we sat down for dinner. We were introduced to two servers. We then were given stale bread and waited for water refills and cocktails the entire meal. Long periods went by without any acknowledgment or being checked on. At first we chalked up the bread not being fresh to a wedding, thinking, okay maybe we had leftover bread from lunch, and that the wedding should get the best bread available. We had also long anticipated coming back for our favorite Surf and Turf Tempura Rolls. That evening, they were made with very hard, undercooked rice. Regrettably we sent them back. The Caesar salad was good. My husband’s Halibut tasted off and he did not eat any. We ended up sharing my burger; the fries were absolutely soggy and limp so we couldn’t have those, either. We had to wait a long time for the bill. They were nice enough to take off the tempura rolls. Before this we were considering another large, private milestone event at the venue and will no longer be doing so. The word to be used is not disappointed, it is sad. We left feeling sad on our anniversary. We probably won’t be back any time soon unless we hear these ongoing issues are properly addressed.

What happened?!? Prime used to be one of me and my husband's favorite restaurants in Saratoga when we come up for track season every year. This year we were extremely disappointed. Our appetizers were fine, however it was all downhill from there. We had to ask for bread a few times and when it finally came out it was basically a Kaiser roll cut up. It took a long time for my husband's wine to come out. I ordered a glass of Chianti only to be told (after another long wait) that they do not have Chianti by the glass. Our entrees took a long time to come out also, which was odd considering the dining room was empty - on a Friday night during track season no less. After the long wait my husband's medium steak came out very rare and my med well Prime burger came out very rare too. Also my husband's lobster tail he order didn't come out. When he asked our server they said they didn't hear him ask for it. Our server did seem sorry for our all of this and did ask how they could make it better. At that point we just wanted the check and get out of there. My husband's steak was taken off the bill. We were really surprised we left Prime hungry and had to stop somewhere in town to eat. The next day I got an email from Resy saying that Prime wanted my feedback on my dining experience the night before. I gave them honest feedback about our dinner. That was a week ago and no one from Prime contacted me to ask what went on.
Lovely.setting for a cocktail not dinner.
The site is lovely. However the meal was a great disappointment. Known for its steak dinners we were surprised to order a beef burger medium that was well done. The octopus was rubbery and the lobster salad was overly seasoned that masked the lobster taste. Another shrimp and pasta entre was overly cooked with mushy pasta. Very disappointed in a restaurant not shy with prices.
I hate to say it but I'm done w dinner at Prime.
I've eaten there a bunch of times and it's always a letdown. On top of poor quality meals, it's really expensive. I enjoy the atmosphere, especially out in the deck. Beautiful scenery, but the food, not good at all!
Disappointed
Prime at Saratoga used to be the to go place for Sunday brunch buffet. Then Covid hit... and that wonderful tradition went away. So we were very excited to go back for our first visit in early July. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. First of all, the buffet had many FEWER offerings and yet the price was about $45. The food was OK... but quality and variety was not up to past standards. The biggest surprise though was ....... One of the many reasons we USED to go was because there were MANY food selections for my mother who is a celiac (can't eat wheat or related gluten products). This time none of the main lunch/dinner dishes were prepared in gluten free manner. All had sauces or breading that contained flour. I asked the buffet attendant whether there were some dishes that WERE gluten free that I had missed. He checked with the chef and said no. So basically my mom could eat an omelet, or turkey/roast beef. No other main dishes. And for $45! Later, I asked to speak to the Dining Supervisor... was told he would be over to speak to me. He never came! About 1/2 hour later... I saw a man who had been chatting with numerous other staff members for quite some time at the reception area (joking, laughing, working???). I went up to them and asked if he was the supervisor. He said yes. I told him of our disappointment. He basically said..."But your mother could eat an omelet, and sliced meat".... and then listed other accompaniments she could have. His attitude was uncaring... and unprofessional. After my push back about his attitude, eventually he said how this was their last Sunday brunch before the track season..... and he would mention it to the chef in the Fall for the future. This man shouldn't be in a supervisory position.... representing their restaurant. In the meantime, I have to credit the female omelet chef. I wish I knew her name. She saw my mom looking around, asking questions..... SHE offered to ask the chef to make the fish without flour-based sauce specially for her. Shortly afterwards, the waiter came over with a freshly prepared, quality-tasting plate of fish for her that was simply, quickly made with no gluten. THIS is the kind of excellent service that Prime used to be known for. Looking at other reviews just now, I see that many others commented about a decline in food quality and service. Crossing fingers that in September, the leadership will re-focus their efforts so that this restaurant returns to its former standards.

Service is absolutely terrible! Slow and all hound
Service is absolutely terrible! Slow and all hound incompetent wait staff! Great atmosphere but food is not worth the price and you can get a better steak at Pennells, Morton's, Salt and Char, 15 Church and the list goes on! Avoid this place and spend your money the right way!
downward spiral
Have been here MANY times. Used to enjoy sitting at bar and having apps. and cocktails. Has really slipped. I have never had this occur at a nice bar: ordered an Old Fashioned - bartender mixed it in a shaker (not how you make an old fashioned)-poured 3/4 of it into my glass and then drank the rest -WTF! He commented "that's a really good drink". Won't be back. Not "high end" feeling anymore. Sad. Oh and our app. took 45 minutes to come "problem in the kitchen" and wasn't good. Bye, bye.
Riding a downhill slope!
Beautiful setting, but that’s all. With reservation for 8, table not set up. Nice menu, food quality not as expected. Hamburger average, teriyaki surf and turf skimpy on filling, wasabi had no bite, chicken on a salad was dry. Onion rings great. Presentations attractive. No tempting desserts - pastry chef quit. Prices way out of line for the poor quality. Food arrived an hour after placing orders- no exaggeration! What’s happening? This was once the premier restaurant in Saratoga Springs.
Too expensive to be mediocre in light of what it once was.
Food good, not great. Wait time after placing order - one hour much too long, especially when not busy.

Went to dinner here for our friends birthday, we have a party of 24 ppl and had to reserve a private room for the party. Most ppl ordered the filet and it was dry, tuff, no flavor worst piece of meat any of us have ever gotten out and the servers were terrible. Everyone in our party said the meat was terrible. For the price I expect way better. Prime at Saratoga national has terrible food at an outrageous price for what you get.
Love this restaurant
Our experience for 3 couples Beautiful atmosphere and service ( Anna) was outstanding Unfortunately we were seated up against a private party room that was very loud. Kept needing to close the doors but during service was quite annoying. Otherwise a nice experience The food was good. Everyone loved their steaks. A Great evening

I am local and enjoy dining at the Prime regularly both with family and friends. The grounds and landscaping are nothing short of spectacular here. I went this past Memorial Day weekend Sunday May 28th to the Buffet Brunch with my daughter and was sadly disappointed. All of the chafing dishes were not hot including the carving station. The cold salads were wilted and cheeses were not sitting on ice. It happened to be a hot day. None of the items mentioned were identifiable as nothing was labeled. I had no idea what dishes they were until I tasted it on my plate. The same held true for the dessert table and again I did not know what cake flavor I had until I brought it to the table. None of the desserts were kept cold either which was a concern as it was an unusually warm day. I was there at 10:45am so I was surprised that the hot foods such as the chicken as well as a fish in a cream sauce was dry and cold even though it sat on top of sternos. There was no server at the pasta station and the egg station was short a chef so the wait was rather long. The French toast was plentiful but again not hot and also very dry. I did have a small blueberry pancake and it was good. Back at the table I was asked by my server if I'd wanted a second mocktail which I was glad to get another. After a 20 minute period there was still no drink to the table. When I finally asked for my check he remembered and apologized for not bringing the mocktail. I am guessing that he assumed I no longer was interested in it? That was far from the case but he did not make a move to bring it. Lastly when I got home I had the worst stomachache ever and I did not feel good into the next day. I am certain that I ate bad food as hot food should be just that and cold dishes and desserts should be kept on ice in warm weather. I am disheartened as I have never had a bad meal at the Prime at Saratoga National until now.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
