A deliciously decadent experience
An institution of the South Bay, Plumed Horse lived up to its reputation and is very deserving of its Michelin star. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and loved every single dish. Each was beautifully prepared and full of wonderful flavor. The service was also spot on. Our menu consisted of: 1) Country Paté, Moutard Violette 2) Smoked Salmon Eclair 3) Beef Tartare "Briquette" 4) Cheese & Crackers 5) Chilled Monterey Abalone - grapefruit, Brokaw avocado, Fennel 6) BLACK PEPPER & PARMESAN SOUFFLÉ - uni & local rock crab fondue 7) WILD MUSHROOM TART - melted leeks, Chanterelles, Gruyère 8) CALIFORNIA SQUAB - celery root girella, brown-butter apple, horseradish soubise 9) FLANNERY PRIME BEEF STRIPLOIN - parsley root, braised short rib ragout, Sauce Bordelaise 10) Coconut Sorbet - passion fruit curd, vanilla crumble 11) MARSCAPONE MOUSSE - kishu mandarin, olive oil
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food ruined by their sales person
The food is excellent but we were constantly asked by their "sales person" (not by our waiter) to upgrade our choices to a more expensive choices. It was really annoying it felt like going to a car dealer and be pushed to add options you don't want to the car you want to buy.

We had the tasting menu which was good. Some of the sauces were a bit too strong and overpowered the meat. For the food I would give it a 4/5. The tasting menu and wine pairing (I was driving so we split one) were fixed price. The wines were mediocre. Regardless of the price I would not buy any of them. We were told by a friend who visited recently that the wine pairing was poor. Why beware? We were asked if we would upgrade the sirloin steak to wagyu but no mention of an addition charge. We have been to very good restaurants who when the gave an alternative would either give it free or say there is an increase in price. However the red wine was Bennett Valley, cabinet blend. I said that the wine was going to be mediocre and the I was asked it I would like a taste of a Bordeaux to compare! It was a 1/2 bottle of Les Forts de Latour 2005. It was mediocre. I checked when I got home and it was rated at 90. I only wanted a taste. Anyway I was expecting a bill for a bit less than 1000$. The bill was 1630 $ Fortunately my wife had been given a gift certificate that covered that amount, I am disgusted by ethics Plumed Horse for lack of disclose of upping the price and not tell the person the changes are being increased. When we were going to leave and I saw the bill I asked for the remained of the wine to take home because it was about $500. The half bottle was at least 3/4 full. I told a friend who was in a party of 4 who did not know the game and was charged 7K$ and refused to pay and only when the police arrived did they pay. If it was not for the gift certificate we would not have gone to the Plumed Horse because the previous time we said we would not go again (the couple on the next table had the same sentiments). Additionally they asked if we would like a cocktail first which was OK. Even before we finished the cocktail the were bringing on the first course and before we had finished that they were bring on the 2nd course; so we asked the to slow down

We were guests. It was an overwhelmingly enjoyable experience for the celebration of my wife's birthday. We were seated at the chefs table with a view to the well run kitchen. The tasting menu was a sequence of small portions, but altogether a filling and fulfilling meal. We were also gifted with a variety of super creative cocktails. Chef Peter even tossed in a delicious extra dish and met with us along with most all the rest of the staff who clearly enjoyed what they do. I am aware it's an expensive meal, but it was surprisingly excellent from beginning to end.

After a day of exploring the outdoors my friends and I wanted to unwind with some cocktails and appetizers. While looking around Saratoga we discovered Plumed Horse. What a gem! We sat at the bar and ordered a few recommended items and loved every second of our time there. The bartender was amazing and I feel horrible because I don't recall her name but wanted to mention her for the incredible service she provided. I will be heading back there soon for a very romantic date night.
Be the first to ReplyGood not great
Excellent food but not worth the price. I don’t mind spending a lot of money for a great dinner but this was good, not great, and a bit pretentious. Service was very attentive.
Be the first to ReplyDon't believe the haters,
If you have the opportunity to come here, I highly recommend speaking with Chris at the bar prior to ordering your drink of choice. His options and skills are unmatched. Too bad we leave here tomorrow. I would come here every night, and sit at the bar. BTW - don’t believe the reviews on TripAdvisor. Plumed Horse deserves every bit of their Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyBest Meal Ever
The best meal I’ve ever eaten! Six of us attended the day before Christmas Eve. Nobody was disappointed. The Black Pepper & Parmesan Soufflé and Chanterelle Mushroom Tart were the standouts.

The food and staff met and exceeded my expectations. Celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary and Plumed Horse made it a memorable one.
The trout was delicious but the wagyu beef dish was the winner, hands down!
Over rated and over priced
This is was the worst dining experience we've ever had. Terrible service, terrible care, mediocre and overpriced food. Here's how it started. Our server knew as soon as we sat down that we had 90 minutes before we had to leave for a play. It took 55 minutes to get dinner rolls (cold in the middle), an hour to get our appetizer and an 75 minutes to get only one of our two entrees -- and it was cooked incorrectly -- fish that was nearly raw in the middle when we ordered it well done/firm. Even though we were nearly out of time (and had to leave in 15 minutes), they wanted us to wait for the second entree even though no one knew when it would be served. With 1-0 minutes to spare, we finally just cancelled the entrees and got the check. The server finally told us that their ticket machine in the kitchen wasn't working and that's why nothing had come out, but we couldn’t figure out why no one checked for us. She never apologized, never tried to take care of us. The "second in command" was angry that we didn't like the bottle of wine he had recommended, and was incredibly rude and arrogant. We explained our many issues to him and his only response was offensive — he had opened a second bottle of wine for us and that they had done "everything they possibly could have for us" -- which was absolutely nothing. We asked to talk with the General Manager, who was on a "conference call" and couldn't be bothered to talk with his customers. Restaurants make mistakes but the appalling thing about this restaurant, was that they can't be bothered to apologize for bad food, bad experiences, lack of care. We had no dinner, no apology and no one trying to make it right. Shame on this restaurant for its arrogance, its lack of care for its customers. P. S. The champagne they poured us was a retail $13.99 bottle of Charles Armand Blanc de Blanc Brut — not even sold there. Rated 3.1 on the Vivino app. Really? Michelin star?

It’s nice place, the service is good, easy to park nearby. The tasting menu changed every month, but I don’t like the August menu. Dessert is excellent! Need dress code.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin Star ???
Decided to give it a go after not having visited for many years. The food was unremarkable, nothing stood out, for a restaurant with a Michelin Star the food was across the board below average. The service, could just have been the waitperson we had, was poor at best. Our table captain performed as a disinterested server, not as someone in charge of, or even interested in the patron's experience. He was not attentive, aloof (not quite sure why, neither he nor the decor was any thing special), sloppy, not getting all the parts and pieces of any given course delivered at the proper time. In all the experience was below average. Not sure how they keep a Michelin Star. We have dined at Michelin Star restaurants (that actually deserve the raking) all over the globe, and The Plummed Horse is not deserving, and in continuing to keep its Star, lessens the value of such a raking. Exceptionally poor value, will not be back until/unless there is a seismic improvement both in quality of food and quality of wait staff.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure how they maintain a Michelin star...
Was expecting a lot more. The was good overall but the service was spotty. Ordered a drink that did not come out until the third course after I asked for it. Waiter forgot to put in our desert order so we had to wait 15 min for it. The soufflé was very good, but it should be an option if people want to put any sauce on their souffle, since it is served on the side. Very inconsistent, unfortunately.
Be the first to ReplyHorrific treatment by Manager
This review is for the Restaurant Manager Josh. Our experience on Saturday was unlike anything I've ever experienced. We were very excited to celebrate here and were met with the worst treatment you could imagine. We weren't comfortable with the new check in procedures that we didn't know About changed after covid. No problem but we asked if we could get seated without such personal things being asked of us. We were told absolutely not and while deciding, the hostess retrieved the manger Josh who came out and said "not tonight guys maybe next time". We were shocked that he basically didn't even let us finish deciding and asked us to go.
Upon departure I verified since they cancelled our reservation, that they wouldn't be charging my card. The hostess and Josh both answered "we will make sure your card is not charged"
Sure enough last night. 5 days after our reservation we were charged $150.
I just called and spoke with Josh who said he remembered us and his answer to me was "Guess they changed their mind"
I asked who authorized and said he Jeffery must have. I asked him if he communicated with someone named Jeffery that he guaranteed my card wouldn't be charged and he said "nope".
After two minutes of the most horrific treatment the manager hung up on me.
I called back and he says "your going to have to call back on a weekend" and hung up on me again.
So i don't even know who to reach out to to get my $150 back that they said they wouldn't take.
I asked for jefferys number and a owner and all I got was a hang up And a No.
I'm at a loss for words.
Nothing special plus Owner had an attitude
We had the tasting menu and nothing special neither memorable. The owner stopped to chat a little with each table, but passed ours before giving us the "not thank you" look. Maybe we did not look "wealthy" enough to be there. Anyways, we did not feel welcome and will not return.
Be the first to Reply5 Star meal with casual chic outdoor ambiance
The staff did an incredible job with outdoor dining. Food came very quickly and was delicious. Not a lot of tables so make a reservation in advance. Did a great job tenting the area and putting up outdoor chandeliers. The king crab soufflé was delicious as always (1000% recommend - perhaps in the hall of fame).
Be the first to ReplyStay Away from Plumed Horse, Saratoga Ca and Owner Joshua Weeks
The Plumed Horse, Saratoga Ca, and Owner Joshua Weeks has no sympathy for two guests that prepaid $490 for their Valentine's Day dinner. Those repeat customers became sick and stayed home, so other diners at the one Michelin starred Plumed Horse did not also get infected.
If you value your restaurant reservation deposit for the Plumbed Horse, it is best to stay away and tell your friends. At least as long as Joshua Weeks owns the Pumbed Horse in Saratoga, California.
Even worse, if Josh Weeks did that to use, one wonders how he treats his employees if they are sick. "Come to work, infect the other employees and the customers, or you lose your job," he might be doing!
This lack of consideration, respect of the customer, and ignorant approach towards sick customers are especially frightening in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19). This approach to customer satisfaction will probably be right for the other restaurants Joshua Weeks owns on the same Big Basin Street, namely La Fondue, Pasta Armellino, and Plumed Horse Chocolatier By Angelica,
While airlines, hotels, other restaurants adjusted their policies to accommodate sick customers, Joshua Weeks, the owner of the Plumbed Horse, kept our money.
Here is what happened. We made Valentines' Day dinner reservations and secured the reservation with a Chase Reserve credit card. A couple of days before Valentine's Day dinner, we got sick and called the restaurant and promised if we got a refund, we would eat their several times again, so the restaurant does not lose any money.
But that was not good enough. But Weeks said no to the refund but offered credit on future meals.
I suspect the Pumbed Horse restaurant in Saratoga California was quickly able to rebook the table given the fact they were fully booked (according to Opentable), and they only have about twenty tables in the main dining area. So Joshua Weeks got paid twice.
Reluctantly, the restaurant said, "OK, we will keep your $490, and you can use it on upcoming meals."
So on March 7, 2020, we returned and had a meal and some wine for about $190. Josh weeks refused to honor the balance of $300 still owed.
Then upon departing, Joshua Weeks felt compelled to shout out in the bar entrance area with about twenty customers present and insult to my wearing an SF 49ers jacket.
Joshua Weeks of the Plumbed House is a real class act. Don't let him and his restaurants rub off his charm on you.
Expensive but Great Experience
I came here with friends to have dinner, I ordered one bottle of red wine (exquisite) the service was great and what made it even better was my dish, the Wagu Steak which was to die for. It almost feels like it melts in your mouth with every bite. Price is a bit high but I would say come and experience this delicious exotic place at least once every year. Worth every penny!
