Good food gives me mussels.
.. I used to take some of my friends here a half dozen of times a year. It's a nice and cozy little place with good food and service, well at least as far as i remembered. (This used to be the Cannery Restaurant way back in the days?!?) Anyways, first time back here since post pandemic because I am hungry for some surf and turf that my tummy recalled as decently good?!? (Fingers crossed) This place is located right across the street from White Spot on Kingsway closed to Knight street in Vancouver. There is parking at the back or pay street parking right outside. The layout and interior vibe is that of the 90s; a mixed of fine dining with a casual atmosphere. Here were the food I ordered this time around; 1. Dinner bread with lobster oil (complimentary). Nice little snacker and I believe they are famous for their lobster oil? 2. Virgin chi chi. It was okay, pretty basic. 3. Lobster bisque. It was hot, rich and creamy. However just a tad on the sweet side. 4. Manila Clam chowder (New England style). It was hot with a nice portion of clam meats but once again a tad on the sweet side. (The chef had a sweet tooth?!? 5. San Francisco style mussels. Literally delicious! Loved it! The mussels were meaty, fresh, juicy and plump! Finally not those little dried up raisin like mussels a lot of places serve! (Thank the Food God) 6. Seafood platter ($29.95/ person minimum 2 people). Everything was tasty and nicely done BUT why only 1 oyster and 1 scallop?!? lol value wise it's a yes and a no, depending on how you look at it especially other dishes are generous in portions. 7. Aged Alberta tenderloin. It was juicy and tender as it should be. Nice sauce! And a generous portion of sautéed vegetables and mashed potatoes. 8. 10 oz New York Steak. Nice and tasty, very nicely done. Loved the creamy, buttery mashed potato! However the peppercorn sauce was a bit on the sweet side? (I am beginning to think the chef really has a sweet tooth!). This is a nice little place to really enjoy some surf and turf with some good company or by yourself like me sometimes (no I am not a loner or need to hire a friend!). Casual atmosphere with good vibes. The service here during this visit was very good considering the fact that there was only one server taking care of everyone. AND he managed it so well and efficiently! (Kid you not, an employee every company wants, sadly they don't make such employee nowadays) As for the food, everything was quite good and tasty, just the sauces were a bit on the sweeter side. I really tried my best but had to pack most of my steak home, I think I really over ordered this time around. Instead of good food, more like a lot of food gives me mussels (ummm yeah sounds a bit corny...)
Be the first to ReplyI have to admit I haven't heard of Pink Peppercorn before.
However after our great meal last night, I am happy to recommend this place. My first impression was that the menu and vibe reminded me of 'The Cannery', which closed over ten years ago. LO and behold, I found out the chef of the Cannery is now the chef of Pink Peppercorn. Also, our server was also from there and he has quite a few stories to tell. And now to the food. Two types of warm bread and lobster oil is a very nice touch. The calamari was one of the best I have ever tasted, crispy, juicy and perfectly cooked. I had to order the salmon Wellington as it looked amazing in the pictures from other Yelp reviews. It was very very good. My partner had the black cod, which was a nice portion. I would say I wouldn't mind it less smoked as too much smoke takes away from the delicate taste of the fish. Service was top notch, but on this night they were short handed as a server called in sick. Other than that it was a perfect evening. Such restaurants as a dying breed so I hope they will be around for a while. Good job, chef and team.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing portions and amazing food.
They let me change my pasta sauce to a cream sauce which was so good! We got their appetizer of the day which were scallops in lemon butter sauce. The bread and the lobster oil that they give to every table was addictive -- I tried to not eat too much knowing that the portions here are generous. We also got the salmon Wellington -- the sweet gravy-like sauce they give you was quite nice. My tip is to not pour all the sauce into your flaky pastry all at once unless you're absolutely sure you won't be taking home leftovers so it doesn't get all soggy, The pasta I substituted cream sauce for (instead of tomato red sauce) was delightful. Exactly what I wanted -- though I felt I could've had more noodles. But who am I to complain about the amount of fish and seafood I got on top of those noodles?

What a great restaurant! This place feeds you well & brought me back to the early 2000s circa Cannery vibes. This is not a pretentious place at all. My date and I had the Smoked Alaskan Black Cod, Salmon Wellington & Trio of Tartare. Food was delicious and servings were enormous. My cod had 2 normal sized fillets and a smaller mini one. Tons of vegetables & yummy mashed potatoes in a citrusy lemon butter sauce. Leftovers for 2 extra meals for me. My date really enjoyed his Wellington as well. It's amazing how they keep the fish moist while baked in that delicious shell. We probably could have skipped the Tartare as the extra protein sure didn't help with having an empty stomach to tackle the main. They also have your usual staple mixed drinks. My mojito was nicely boozed without alot of water as many places tend to be. Oh right they also serve warn bread with their delicious lobster oil. Not quite the Cannery lobster oil I remember but delicious nonetheless. Server was helpful, friendly and everyone seemed very happy to be there.
Be the first to ReplyFood was superb.
Service was excellent. Portions were generous. The highlight was definitely the SALMON WELLINGTON, and lobster bisque but everything else was also amazing. This is quite the unassuming restaurant from the outside but boy was I blown away. Every bite was so flavourful and well executed.
Be the first to ReplyIt's been a few years since I was at the Pink Peppercorn
It's been a few years since I was at the Pink Peppercorn last, but the food is every bit as good as I remember. I took my Mum out for a special dinner and we started off with the calamari, which she absolutely raved about. We both agreed it's the best we have ever had. For my entrée, I had the sautéed scallops and prawns, and my Mum had the cedar plank wild salmon. I couldn't decide which dish I preferred; they were both delicious with generous portions of each. I had to pack up most of mine to enjoy the following day. I wish we had saved room for dessert as the crème brûlée is fantastic here. Service was exceptional as always, and I can't wait to return. The only downside was finding parking. There is parking at the rear of the building but signage wasn't very clear so I wasn't sure if I actually parked in the right area. On a night when it was quite dark and pouring rain, I could only see signs that warned of construction and nothing to show restaurant parking. Still, the meal was definitely worth getting soaked in the rain.

Had a group dinner last week at Pink Peppercorn and it was wonderful. PP has the lower section for groups. We have dined there before with another large group. The food and service was excellent and everyone enjoyed their meals. We booked for 5:30 and got seated with drinks right away. The place quickly filled up, even on a Wednesday night. The upper level tables seem to be for couples and smaller groups, which was quite full. Even though they were busy no long waits for the meals or drink/wine top ups. Many of us had the Halibut special, which was wonderful. Others had the Salmon Wellington and some other seafood dishes. Great mashed potatoes and lots of fresh veg on the plate. Always a treat to have dinner at the Pink Peppercorn and be served by Teddy Bear and all the other staff. Looing forward to the next visit.

Pink Peppercorn is a great place to go! We went for our wedding and it was one of the few places that didn't require you to have a set menu and we had 14 people! Food was good and ambience was as well! Service was top notch! Would totally recommend and would also go back to try other things off the menu. I had the rack of lamb and was totally satisfied!

We have only started going to Pink Peppercorn recently and all 3 times had been such a wonderful experience. The portions are so generous and had leftovers to take home every time! The seafood pasta is our family favorite. The waiters are so friendly and really take care of the customers. Already made reservations for next weekend as it is a must if you plan to go there on a weekend! Make sure you go there with a big appetite!

Eddy the chief is amazing!!! I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu, I had no idea this place has such delicious food. Drove by this place a million times and always wondered what it was like, well this weekend we sure found out why the restaurant was jam packed. Everyone in our 7 people party were delightfully impressed with their dinner. The portions are sure to leave you beyond satisfied. Everything from the moist fresh bread served with lobster oil balsamic, perfectly cooked scallops, creamy smooth mashed potatoes, flavourfully seasoned halibut dish, and don't get me started on the salmon Wellington with the unique gravy sauce that I want to drink by the gallon. My only complaint is I wish I had a bigger stomach to eat more. The food here does deserve a better beautifully renovated dinning room to be perfectly honest. That is the only thing hold me back from giving this place 5 stars. But the great genuine service and homey feel makes up for it! Love this place and can't wait to bring family and friends here. I'll be back! I was to busy devouring my food to take pics sorry
Be the first to ReplyWe came on a Tuesday night after making reservations.
Once we were seated and ordered we were given bread with lobster oil. The bread with lobster oil is really delicious but it makes you full easily which becomes an issue for later. The lobster oil is delicious. We got 4 starters and 2 mains and 1 dessert. We definitely over estimated ourselves. This was for 4 people and we were struggling to finish. The warm spinach prawn & papaya salad with cilantro, chilli garlic dressing is a MUST order. The crunchy papaya is refreshing and the prawns are crunchy as well. The garlic dressing is so delicious. I would eat any salad with that dressing on it. It's a bit spicy so be warned if you don't eat spicy. The calamari with tzatziki was another show stopper. The portion was pretty big and it was fried perfectly. The calamari wasn't overly chewy and the batter on the outside was light. Would definitely order this again Trio of tartare was one of the more disappointing dishes. Nothing special about this dish. Very fresh and basic. Wouldn't order this again so I can save space for other food Seafood platter - comes with oyster, mussels, prawns, scallops, candied salmon, crab claws, baby shrimp and vegetables. Everything on this platter was super fresh. Definitely more than enough for 2 people if you are thinking of coming here. For main we got the salmon Wellington and the west coast boullabaise. The Salmon Wellington was not dry at a. Perfectly cooked and the outside puff pastry was flaky. The baby shrimp mushroom duxelles paired so well with the salmon. The sauce is also a must to add that extra sauce. The West coast boullabaise was disappointing next to the other dishes. It tasted really fresh and I could definitely taste the fennel. They are very generous with the seafood. There was so much we had to pack it to bring home. I've had better boullabaise elsewhere. Would not order this next time. For dessert we had the tiramisu. I felt like the tiramisu was missing a bit more marscapone flavour. It wasn't overly sweet but it was just missing some depth to it.Overall: the service was wonderful. There was only one server the whole night and he did his best to serve everyone with a smile and as fast as he could. I enjoyed most of the items we ordered and I can't wait to come back next time. The food is well priced and it's definitely somewhere I would take seafood lovers or people from out of time. Next time I want to try their mussels. Would order the calamari, spinach papaya salad, salmon Wellington again
Be the first to ReplyA great place for seafood.
Place small but the staff are friendly and helpful. My son loves the salmon wellington and my go to is the bouillabaisse.
Be the first to ReplyMy family and my favourite restaurant.
The servers are always very friendly and attentive. All of the food is delicious and come in huge portions. The calamari and salmon wellington are must haves. Truly a hidden gem.
Be the first to ReplySo we had an urge not to eat at home so I searched online
So we had an urge not to eat at home so I searched online for a restaurant that is serving " In Season " Halibut.. man what was I thinking .. looking high and low at some of my normal restaurants until I stumbled across this little place called Pink Peppercorn Seafood located in an inconspicuous place on Kingsway near Knight St..looking into the reviews which the most recent one was last year during Halibut season the comments resonated with me as some made mention of the Chef having come from the old Cannery Restaurant which was on the waterfront north of Hastings street on Victoria.. an icon in the seafood scene of Vancouver .. 2010 was a sad year .. fast forward 12 years and a Pandemic or two, we stumble upon the Pink Peppercorn ..be sure to make reservations as they are open Tuesdays- Sunday 5pm-10pm.. we didn't get in until after 8pm but watching all the satisfied diners leaving with a smile on their faces .. instilled in me that I made the right decision.. we sat near the back.. which was quieter and the waiter promptly served a half load of their home made sour dough bread with in house home made Lobster Oil and Balsamic vinegar.. we proceeded to order seared scallops with mains of Crusted Halibut and Bouillabaisse.. looking around the restaurant.. the decor brought back many fond memories of the old Cannery.. man what a blast from the past.. the food arrived promptly.. and brought back smiles to my palate.. the service was good the owner came around enough to warrant that we are appreciated.. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hidden jewel
Be the first to ReplyOMG! I have been trying to find the chef from the Cannery
OMG! I have been trying to find the chef from the Cannery restaurant & find it! They had opened the pink peppercorn seafood house... it is through Facebook food pages that I found out about this restaurant, I have been back a few times & the food is awesome, fresh & the quality has been consistent. Service is immaculate, attentive & the waiters have their own character to make it a better experience. The decor is electric, I am sure they brought over some of the decor from the Cannery, it reminds me of it in a smaller scale restaurant. If you have been to the Cannery, they still have the famous lobster oil with the balsamic vinegar that you can dip the bread in. If those haven't had their lobster oil, they baked the lobster with herbs the crushed it up, soaked it in olive oil. I missed their lobster bisque, the best that I have tasted... still the best! The bisque was out of this world as usual. Their fish is so fresh & they do an awesome job... very generous portion, they are not skimpy in their veggies, you practically get a whole head of broccoli with your meal. Everything is so good. They don't need to advertise, the word of mouth about their food is spreading like wild fire. I am going to let the photos speaks for themselves.Covid protocol- good, parking is on the street. Use google map, it is on a unpretentious area. Good ambiance in the restaurant with excellent food and service.
Be the first to ReplyI'd say Pink Peppercorn is 3.
5 stars, given the location, ambiance, price, service, food quality and portions. I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 because as a gluten intolerant/undiagnosed Celiac individual, I didn't really feel taken care of by the server. When I asked what I could have on the menu, he told me to pick whatever I want and they can make it GF.. but when I asked him about individual appetizers and foods items, I was rejected on everything I wanted. Finally he pointed out the only appetizer I could have on the menu, which was the seafood platter. As for entree, I could have any of the fish dishes but nothing else. Near the end, he sounded a bit impatient/annoyed. If only he'd just have told me that in the beginning it would've been a less frustrating experience. Their menu on the bottom said they are happy to take care of special diet requests and allergies.. it didn't feel that way to be honest.Just wanted to note that I had called in to inquire about GF accommodations before making resos, and they said that they can accommodate and make items gluten free.. clearly that wasn't the case.Below are my other thoughts on Pink Peppercorn based on the above criteria.Location: Kingsway, plenty of free street parking around. Nothing much to look out at - we were seated in front of the window and I was distracted by the people hanging right outside the restaurant. Ambiance: Cozy and surprisingly quiet for such a packed house. Decor is dated but it feels like a very classic seafood restaurant. Price: On the higher side considering the location, ambiance, service. On par with Blue Water Cafe. My Chilean sea bass dish was $47, for example.Service: It's ok. See above about my dietary issue problem. Water is placed on the table now so we pour our own (which is good I guess), and we were pretty much left alone for the evening.. also not a bad thing I suppose. When guests leave they use this disinfectant that smells like straight up alcohol that just reeked while we were trying to finish up dinner.. I guess COVID, so understandable. Wish they used something that smelled a bit less though. Oh and for takeout we were basically given a container with containers for sauces to pack for ourselves.. for a bill over $150 for two people with no booze.. this honestly seems a bit ridiculous. Food quality: It was solid, decent. Two words that immediately came to mind. Not mindblowingly good and doesn't veer off from classic seafood.. but still satisfying and well-cooked. Salmon Wellington was excellently executed. Only a few things to provide feedback about (1) a weird sweetness in the clam chowder (hubs wouldn't order again) (2) a weird sweetness to the brown gravy served with the salmon Wellington, and (3) my seafood platter didn't come with any sauces, just dressing for the salad. Perhaps because the sauces had gluten in it..?Portions: It's generous. Almost makes up for the price.. almost. We left very full and had half a salmon wellington to bring home for lunch the next day. I don't think people actually make it to dessert here.In conclusion: For the same prices I think I prefer Blue Water Cafe for the service, ambiance and creativity. Will we come back? Maybe.. I'm very curious about the bouillabaisse (which I think they said was GF) and hubs is also curious about other entrees. We probably wouldn't order appies next time though.. it was too much food for us.
Be the first to ReplyActually 4.
5This is where you want to go for a great seafood meal and great personal service. We started with half a dozen oysters and deep fried calamari. The condiment served with the super fresh tasting oysters was subtle and delicious. Combined with tobacco sauce and a squeeze of lemon was heavenly. The calamari was lightly battered and non- greasy. Again with a nice tartare condiment on the side which paired really well. Plus the size of the calamari was enough for the four of us dining to have had enough for each of us to sample. For entrees we had the 1 and 1/2 lb fresh grilled lobster cooked to perfection. Also the seafood linguini was delicious as each seafood in the tomato sauce tasted like it was individually cooked prior to being tossed together into the sauce which made each ingredient stand out on its own. And the bed of hot egg based fresh linguini was perfectly al dente. The fourth entree was a super sized bouillabaisse which had similarly great tomato wine based broth. And did I mention the bread and lobster oil with balsamic vinegar? Delightful.Keep up the great delivery of superb seafood with huge portions. (Which is Very unusual for a higher end seafood restaurant.not quite as sophisticated as one of our recent high end seafood excursions but very tasty food served up in large quantities with a friendly smile. We will definitely be back.
