We made a reservation and were seated immediately.
Service was friendly but a little slow, we had to wait about 20 minutes before we could order. Food was excellent but the bread was not free. Drinks were also quite expensive and there is a 4% surcharge which is a little bit annoying. Overall still a good dining experience despite the few flaws.

As my mother always said "I'm not upset, I'm just disappointed " I've been to Piatti before and loved it. So I took my wife for our anniversary and talked about how great it was. Well the service sucked and the food failed to rescue the experience. Furthermore, as soon as we mentioned we had a gift card the waiter gave us minimal attention. We were rushed to order, and our waiter did not come back to check on our meals until we were done. When ordering drinks, my wife wanted to add tequila to her drink and the server said "here are your options" and handed her his POS handled system, expecting her to know how to read the system. The one she wanted they were out of, and he failed to suggest others in our price range and made her select one. My wife also has allergies, and the server failed to have any ounce of care for the allergy requests. The Parmesan cream sauce also was straight cream and was extremely lackluster. They also have a 4% surcharge listed at the bottom of the menu in a font that is impossible to read (and I have good vision!). I will try them again (probably when work pays for it) and have a chance to redeem themselves. But tonight was bad enough we almost asked for the manager. We were extremely disappointed and went across the street to redeem our night, knowing we would get better service.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food service and ambiance.
The staff is very attentive and welcoming - they allow you to take your time with your meal and create a non-rushed atmosphere. A definite find. Parking can be onerous but it's Lajolla. Great for a business meeting or date night

Pasta was so delish! Came here spontaneously on a Monday night and were basically seated immediately. I got the spaghetti with the veal and pork meatballs and oh my gosh they were so tender and flavorful. The dish was a bit plain otherwise since it's spaghetti so it's pretty standard. They do have a standard of living surcharge of 4% added on to the bill that they say is not a tip, but I think that's extremely unfair. Piatti should be paying its employees anyways. With the high price, it's hard to justify standard pasta.

Food was really good here! I had a lemon cream ravioli that was unique and super delicious, The meal was served with bread and we had a Cesar salad, No complaints from me!
Be the first to ReplyI had a surprise 60th birthday party for my wife at Piatti.
It went perfectly! Food and service were right on. Feedback from all 30 guests were uniformly positive. I'll plan my next event there!
Be the first to ReplyWould give one star if I could simply due to the service.
My roommates 23rd birthday reservation was made for 3/2 at 6pm for a party of 15 weeks in advance. There happened to be some rain that day and instead of the restaurant accommodating our reservation inside, they called us at 5:45 stating that they couldn't have us outside. At this point our guests had already arrived at the restaurant and my roommate was on the phone with multiple people and the manager until after 6pm to figure out a solution. The manager came to the conclusion that our party could try to be fit in around 7 inside or at least see if the outside patio was able to be dried down for us to sit there (either of which we were totally fine with, we just wanted to be able to eat some fantastic food with her guests). However, once we got to the restaurant, we were told our reservation was cancelled. We had not cancelled it and had told them multiple times we did not want it cancelled if there's a possibility they can accommodate us at a later hour. The manager I believe comes out and tells us that she never once said that our reservation could be accommodated later and tried to gaslight my roommate into thinking it is her fault for the situation. The manager told us she received a call earlier in the day asking if she wanted outdoors still-- Which she never did and we have no call log on her phone to prove it-- but essentially called us the liars and said she insisted on it being outside. We tried to show her the log but she wouldn't look at it either. The manager never once said sorry, only that she could not control the weather and that they had to shut down the patio so we could not even sit out there when the rain had stopped for 45 minutes. It is just very very disappointing to come to a nice, expensive restaurant and be treated with absolutely no respect. We were being as respectful and accommodating as we could to the restaurant-- saying we were willing to sit outside even if it's damp or pushing it back a bit. Any other restaurant with their prices would've found a way to make it possible for a large party reservation to be seated somewhere, whether that was outside or inside, and maybe thought further ahead of time than 15 minutes before the reservation time to come up with a solution. This and the attitude were unacceptable. My roommate did not need the added stress of having to find another restaurant to accommodate all of the guests. It felt very unprofessional and not the type of service I expect from such a nice place. I also just do not understand why a restaurant would've just not made an effort to accommodate a 15 person reservation (that would've tipped 20% or more). I do not plan on ever returning on my own accord and I hope the establishment takes some efforts to correct their employees attitudes.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is absolutely amazing.
The inside bar area was so lively and vibrant. Every dish that came out of the kitchen looked so amazing, I wish I had the appetite to order one of everything! This is definitely the most special spot in La Jolla Shores.

Ordered drinks - Lemon Drop and Mezcal Margarita very good, Ashleigh is an amazing bartender! Food - ordered two Ravioli dishes Ravioli which was made with a Lemon creme sauce and Ravioli di Zucca. The hard thing was deciding which tasted better. Both dishes were awesome. Loved the location and the decor. We sat at the bar but really the professional service and yummy food will win you over. Highly recommend.

Perhaps it's good for just casual lunch but not for a special occasion. I reserved a table for my boyfriend's birthday, but even though I had a reservation and arrived on time, the waitress didn't ask for my reservation and just led us in without asking for table preference (inside/outside). When I asked for a birthday surprise cake I have asked, he showed an unwelcoming attitude and claimed to be unaware of such arrangements. They gave a tiramisu at the end but what I wanted was a just welcoming attitude and a little surprise for him, not a cake. Unfortunately, I won't visit again.

We were going to eat at another Italian spot right across the street but switched our plans last minute on a Friday night. Because we didn't have a reservation, we chose to sit and eat at the bar and had a lovely time! It was lively and a little loud, but not so loud we couldn't hear each other while we chatted. The staff at the bar was friendly and helpful. They have a large wine list but we ended up getting the Puccini Punch to drink which was very tasty and well-balanced. I opted for seafood and the homemade pappardelle shrimp pasta which was divine! I've had other "saffron" pastas that were quite bland, but this cream sauce was so tasty and flavorful. Would love to come back, sit outside on the patio when the nights are warmer and try a pizza.

Be the first to ReplyCame here for dinner last night and really enjoyed it.
My daughter and I are both vegan and my husband is not - so we are always looking for spots that have options for all of us. While there is only one vegan option currently on the menu the waitress did offer us the option to have bruschetta prepared vegan with tomatoes. It would be awesome to see some additional vegan entree options like lasagna or ravioli. Portion sizes are very generous so my daughter and I split the bruschetta and vegan pizza and it was plenty for both of us. Pizza has eggplant, fresh tomatoes, basil and just the right amount of vegan feta cheese. My husband loved the half chicken with sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes.Service was good too. It can be loud with a lot of larger parties on weekend nights but that's what happens when the food is good! They did have sorbet as a vegan dessert option but we opted to grab ice cream across the street where there are lots of vegan flavors to choose from. La Jolla shores is one of our favorite spots to visit when we visit San Diego as it's fun to walk around before or after dinner too - especially on warm nights.

Came in as a walk-in on a Sunday night and was pretty surprised that there was availability for a table for two. It had to be outside though, which initially had me concerned of the cold. Luckily there were many heat lamps outside and it was sufficiently warm. Shortly after we were seated we accidentally said yes to having some bread as appetizer (which, as a heads up, costs ~$5, NOT complimentary). We went along with it though when we saw how good it was. It was warm, fresh, and super soft and fluffy on the inside. The dipping oil was also very good, just a bit spicy with some vinaigrette, chili oil, cilantro. Normally I hate vinaigrette based sauces, but this was so good we asked for more to go with the main course and to take home. I had the cannelloni which looked very unassuming in the pictures. The taste, however, could not be more different. It's got braised short ribs based within sheets of the lasagna, and red sauce throughout. There's plenty of cheese, and the sauce is not too overpowering in tomato flavor, and the braised short ribs rather than regular ground beef brings it a flavor that's unmatched with any other lasagna type dishes you may have tried in the past. My girlfriend had the linguini with clams, and this was actually a custom order that they were able to accommodate; surprisingly many other restaurants in SD don't quite have this dish on the menu. It's got white wine, lots and lots of big chopped garlic pieces. The clams have a lot of garlic flavor as well, very nicely done. I would definitely come back in the future.

I eat here about 6 times a year either for business meeting or family celebration or casual dinner. You feel comfortable here wearing a suit and tie or jeans and a t shirt. The service is wonderful. Almost all the dishes are good but the seafood dishes are better than the chicken dishes in my opinion. Prices are amazing considering location, ambience, and food quality.

What a perfect spot for my girlfriend's birthday luncheon! A group of 11 of us gathered outside and had all of our favorites - salads, pastas and seafood. (3 of us ordered the Pappardelle (comes with shrimp) but substituted spinach - it was amazing!)Lauren, the General Manager, checked in on us and noticed a few ladies were not covered by the umbrellas, so she quickly moved another umbrella over for us! Her service-first attitude made our party perfect!(And yes, the complimentary birthday tiramisu dessert was delish!)
Be the first to ReplyMy first time at this restaurant.
My Italian boyfriend made reservation here for our date night. He's been here before and said it was good. We always go to the Italian restaurant in PB. One of our favorite place but he wanted me to try a new place. I was hesitant but trusted his judgment. The waiter was ok but can be a little more enthusiastic. A smile makes a difference. We ordered martinis and the drinks was on point. For appetizer, we ordered calamari and that was good. My boyfriend ordered the chicken piccata. The first thing he said was why was the chicken pieces so small and thin. He tasted his food and the chicken was so dry, the mushroom risotto cake was over cooked. He was extremely disappointed.I had the grilled ribeye, with potatoes & broccoli. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium. The steak was mediocre. It was a thin slice and it came out medium well. The potatoes and broccoli was bland. The broccoli is not green, it starts to show yellow color meaning it's not fresh. For my first time here, I have to say the place is mediocre. We barely touched our foods. It was not a welcoming atmosphere and the worst part, my boyfriend and I left hungry. My boyfriend felt so bad taking me there for our date night, especially when he had a higher expectation. He's Italian and he was extremely disappointed and that says a lot.
Be the first to ReplyJust meh.
Extremely surprised at the Yelp reviews. The food was the very definition of "just okay."
Be the first to ReplySolid pasta place, but a little pricey.
Entrees could be up to $40. I got the ravioli in lemon cream sauce, and it tasted delightful and was the right portion amount. Ambiance was fine, it's a busy restaurant even late at night.
Be the first to ReplyCould've been better.
I am baffled at all the high yelp reviews. The food was decent but I guess the expectation was really good food and this missed on a lot of marks. The food was bland lacking flavor and portion size was rather small. The waiters seems really rushed and lack luster in general. Too many other great restaurants in SD to come back to this one.
