Dinner at Peter Luger is always mandatory when Wifey & I are in town!!! Steak for 2 came out perfectly cooked, medium rare. Creamed spinach and baked potato for our sides, and an order of sliced bacon. Everything was delicious!! We've been dining here since 2011. Never disappoints!! Order a Negroni or 2 at the bar while you wait for your table!!
Be the first to ReplyToo expensive for the average and even above average diner.
I watched two women neat 90 who want to share a birthday dinner at PL b'klyn b/c they are "from there" and "never dined there". When they saw the price for a steak for two they had to bail out. Wow. A whole lifetime and these fine ladies can't afford to dine and a place that rests on its laurels.

Amazing food!! We got the steak for 3 and lamb chops as entrees and spinach, German potatoes as sides and bacon and Iceberg salad as appetizers. Amazing amazing and did I say amazing!

But a must if visiting NY. For repeating customers just now that the unfortunately quality has changed.
Be the first to ReplyStepping into Peter Luger Steakhouse in New York feels like
Stepping into Peter Luger Steakhouse in New York feels like entering a chapter of culinary history. This legendary spot, with its wood-paneled walls and classic vibe, doesn't just serve food; it serves up an experience. The star of the show, undoubtedly, is the steak. Each bite of their dry-aged beef, cooked to perfection, is a symphony of flavors, rich and satisfying in a way that few other places can match. The meat's crust is perfectly charred, sealing in the juiciness and tenderness that Peter Luger is famed for. But it's not just about the steak. The sides, from the thick-cut bacon appetizer to the creamed spinach and the German-style potatoes, all complement the main dish, enhancing the overall dining experience. And then there's the service - old-school, attentive but not overbearing, adding to the charm that makes Peter Luger a must-visit destination. In the end, dining at Peter Luger is more than just a meal; it's a nod to the enduring legacy of New York's steakhouse culture. It's a reminder of the city's rich, multifaceted identity, served up one delicious steak at a time. Whether you're a lifelong New Yorker or a visitor looking to taste the heart of the city, Peter Luger offers a quintessential slice of New York's gastronomic excellence.
Be the first to ReplyThe vibe in this place was uplifting.
Yes, there were a lot of uppity people but they were happy, drinking and laughing. Our waiter oversold us on the size of the steak we ordered and we had a lot leftover. No problem; we got back to the hotel, put in the Subzero freezer and brought it back to LA and finished it here.

My husband was here in 90s when it still possible to get a table and didn't have to make a reservation ahead for month. The steakhouses were 138 years old now and surprisingly this is my first time here. Somehow my husband was able to get a reservation and we had our anniversary dinner at the restaurant. We were a bit early, so we just hung out at the bar first. Then when our table is ready the call us. We share everything so we had a piece of Bacon and one crab cake. Steak for two and side of mushroom. End with Apple Strudel and Mango Sorbet. Steak cooked just right, and everything is perfect for the taste of food even no fancy food garnish. Old style of food and service was great. We got a table next to the window and the coincident was the private bank across the street were the place we had pre-wedding pictures. Mostly, I'm not so impress when I go to touristy places in New York but only few places are amazing including Peter Luger. Most important thing you need to carry to this restaurant is CASH! or you can pay by debit card.

I took my family here to celebrate my dad's birthday and we had a stellar time! We had a reservation for lunch at 1PM and got seated upon arrival even though we were 15 mins early. The dining room aesthetic stayed true to Peter Luger's reputation as a classic, top of the line steakhouse. The decor was classy, but the dress code was relaxed. Quite a number of people were wearing sneakers and jeans. After some bread and butter to whet our appetites, we ordered with gusto. We ordered two of the Steak for Two, a side of Creamed Spinach, Luger's Sizzling Bacon, and French Fries. This was an excessive amount of food for 4 people but we had no regrets. The bacon was incredible. It was so fatty and delicious, and vanished in bites between the four of us. We almost ordered another but there was still so much food to come. Both the medium rare and medium steaks were cooked to perfection. Each bite oozed juices and the meat melted in the mouth. The creamed spinach was yummy and my mom loved the french fries. They were thick cut, crispy, addictive morsels. Between the four of us, we only managed to finish 75% of the food even with my dad's impressive appetite helping. We took our time and ate to our satisfaction. The waiter packed up everything securely for us upon request and even gave us extra chocolate coins. We loved dining here and wouldn't hesitate to come back for a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplySimply the best steak I've ever had in my lifetime.
I was sad that I couldn't finish it all. For me, this place measured up the the hype. It's a must-visit destination for true steak lovers. I will go back!

We finally had the opportunity to eat at Peter Lugar and it did not disappoint. My husband has been talking about this place for years. Since we had a NYC trip planned I knew we had to make it happen. I made a late lunch reservation and we made the trek from the Upper West Side. The steak was cooked perfectly and the creamed spinach and potatoes were the perfect sides. We added a couple of strips of bacon just for fun and OMG was it delicious. A bottle of wine rounded out our meal. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. The restaurant has a very old school vibe that is not pretentious or snooty. The focus is on the meat. I highly recommend PL
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal and good service.
Despite the service, I wasn't too happy with them throwing out my leftover bag of steak that I left behind. I came right back, too, but it was already chucked. It wouldn't be a big deal if it was some chicken, but at $147 for steak for two and $282 total bill, it's money well spent going into the garbage.

It's the best steak in New York and anyone who disagrees is simply wrong or salty. It's no frills. Come and eat meat. That's it.
Be the first to ReplyOnce a month we reserve a table there.
The receptionist lady is very corteous. The dinners are always at their top. Our company enjoys our time there.

We got the steak for two, German potatoes, and creamed spinach. The steak came out perfectly, the temp was spot on for medium rare. I was really impressed with the cut and quality of their steak because it was so good. They definitely nailed it when it comes to steaks but I did feel like their sides were a bit disappointing. Both the German potatoes and creamed spinach were underwhelming. The complimentary bread offered were dry and cold. And I wasn't a fan of their Cabernet and Malbec. Overall I would rate dinner as 3.5/5. Also to note they are cash or debit card only!!!

Not too many restaurants that have been around since 1887 and they still have a horse stable (nice). Obviously, they are doing something right. I would definitely recommend them.

Excellent meat quality. Place looks a bit outdated, but I go there for the food and not the decor.
Be the first to ReplyBest burger I've ever had in my life.
Went there for lunch, ordered the burger and ... omg it was incredible. You won't find a better burger on planet earth. No joke. I dream of this burger. It's the ticket to world peace. If all the world leaders ate one of these burgers together, they'd be filled with love and happiness, and the world would be a better place.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a joke.
I'll get the good out of the way up front. The porterhouse was good. Very good. But that's the only reason they're getting a second star. Creamed spinach - Are we sure there's actually cream in there? Is there anything else at all other than cream and spinach? Bland AF and worse than the creamed spinach at every other popular steakhouse.Bacon - It's a piece of bacon... that's it. Yay? It was tasty, but of course it was. It was a single piece of bacon on a plate. Unseasoned. Nothing to accompany or elevate it. It's no tastier than any other bacon you've ever had anywhere else ever. Onion Rings - Trash. Poorly battered. Undercooked. Unseasoned. Some of the worst I've ever had. Tomato and Onions - LMFAO. This "dish" takes the cake. People have told me I "must" try the famous tomato and onions. LOLOL. It's a friggin tomato and onion sliced and put on your plate. Unseasoned as usual. It's what you'd find on a "make your own burger" station at a cookout. Literally just sliced tomato and onions. GTFO. Cheesecake - Meh. Not bad but entirely forgettable.Schlag - It's whipped cream, people. And not exceedingly tasty or memorable whipped cream. This place is cruising on reputation and nostalgia. It's embarrassing that this is considered one of the best steakhouses in the greatest food city in the world
Be the first to ReplyI highly recommend this place.
I thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. All of the waiters were very friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy their job. Although they appeared to be older, they were still very passionate and kind. The temperature of the dishes was always hot, ensuring that the meat wouldn't cool down. I appreciated this attention to detail. Overall, I had a very positive experience and would confidently recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWorst $300 dinner I've ever had.
Let's start with my reservation was for 4:45, and we didn't get sat till 5:20. I think they forgot about us at the door.I finally said something and we were sat.Our server was rude. His name is Phillipy. He spoke very quickly and didn't bother to ask my 14 year old what she wanted to drink. When he walked away as she was talking, I said to him...excuse me...she wasn't finished ordering her drink. And then he told me he had explained that they only have unsweetened tea. He hadn't. I was not impressed. It was my husband's birthday and I have to say this dinner was Terrible. I'm a French trained Chef. I've been in the restaurant business for 20 years. As a server, a bartender and now a Chef. I don't understand how this restaurant gets such great reviews. It's an aged steak broiled in butter. We ordered broccoli-it was under cooked. We ordered German potatoes-they were burnt. My server took a break before we were given our check. He told us he was giving our table to another server to finish, that next server was nice but he was clearly in the weeds and didn't bring me my check for another 15 minutes. Their special steak sauce is literally ketchup, apple cider vinegar and horseradish. Tasted like something my daughter used to throw together when she was 5- we called it everything fridge soup...how do people like this restaurant? Never again...what a waste of time and money. I still tipped, because I'm not a cheap person, but honestly wanted to leave that guy a penny-which is server speak for crappy service

I recently visited Peter Luger with a group of friends and family for my 40th birthday, and I was extremely disappointed with the experience. The staff was rude and extremely unwelcoming, and I felt discriminated against because of my sexual orientation. This is unacceptable in any restaurant, and I urge Peter Luger to take steps to address this issue. It's 2023 not 1963.In addition to the discrimination, the food was overpriced and not very good. The steak was bitterly charcoal overcooked and rubbery, and the raw onion rings and tomato slices were dry and tasteless (supposedly it's the best according to a waiter, I wonder if it's a prank.) The restaurant itself was also in need of some MORE updates and looked quite old and rundown dusty remiinded me the haunted house in Disneyland.Overall, I would not recommend Peter Luger to anyone, especially not to members of the LGBTQ+ community who may be at risk of experiencing discrimination. It's important for restaurants to treat all of their customers with respect and kindness, and I hope that Peter Luger takes this feedback to heart and works to improve their service. How did it become the best restaurant in NY area? I wonder...
