I really wish I could give them more stars and better credit. If you're going in for seafood, clearly you know what you're going to pay for. But there crab meat appetizer was shredded crab meat and tasted frozen. Plus it definitely wasn't worth it. If you don't go, they kind of look at you. Most of the waist staff seems very inexperienced, as well as maybe some of the management. I appreciate you checking with the chef and the kitchen, but since my request are minimal. I don't really expect a lot of pushback the way it was given. I guess the customer isn't always right. so I guess I won't be spending my money there again. The food was good, and the drinks are OK as well. I just think they need to check themselves a little bit and come back down to reality and realize that without us, there is no business.

Best happy hour in the city no doubt, always fresh just hard to get a seat at the bar

Very good food and a large menu for your friends that don't love oysters. Larger restaurant too! Staff were very attentive and kind. Can't say enough about how great happy hour is here: very affordable food and a decent enough HH menu options that help you explore their seafood leaning menu. Cocktails were also very good and not overpriced from 4-7. Fries are the bomb. I'm unfortunately not enough of a seafood expert to rate the raw bar.

We went to Peal & Mary for the first time last night and we will definitely be back! The interior is super cosy and nautical and the bar is beautiful. The food and drinks were amazing! Fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced. The coconut cake was to die for. 11 layers!!!! The staff was attentive, friendly, and efficient. I highly recommend Pearl & Mary for a nice night out!
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous place and one of my favorites in the neighborhood.
I haven't had anything that wasn't delicious, but the red snapper in a Thai-style coconut broth was to die for, as were the oysters rockefeller. Special shoutout as well to the milk bread. I don't know why it's so hard to find homemade soft bread (that is NOT sourdough or something seed-heavy) in the city and I wouldn't have expected a seafood restaurant to be the one to offer it, but absolutely no complaints here. I would happily go back just for the milk bread alone. I will echo other reviewers that the portion sizes are fairly small and a la carte, so you'll want to be aware of that when budgeting your meal. :) It is very easy to spend $50+ per person here and that's before dessert or alcohol. Not that unusual for the area, but something worth knowing. I felt that service was well above average, as was the sheer number of staff. Alex was our server and he was genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about the food. Finally, I want to praise the layout. A lot of Center City restaurants are, for obvious reasons, kind of "phone booth" style. Long, skinny and with very tight seating. While Pearl and Mary is cozy and loud, the tables are just far enough apart that it doesn't feel as overwhelming as some other places. It's a matter of inches, but it makes a difference when you're not nearly rubbing elbows with the next table and hearing every detail of their own conversation.

The pink moon was the best oyster in our review. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. Perfect. Will be back.

I've been here two times so far -- for happy hour -- and everything's been delicious so far! The oysters are the star of the show, probably the best I've had (but I'm also not verse in the oyster world). Tastes so fresh. I don't think they out any mignonette in the oysters, yet it has a deliciously indescribable flavor to them? Kind of like a mix of salt water & maybe garlic... Maybe that's just how fresh, quality oysters taste but I'm fan now, considering I could easily have a dozen oysters to myself! (And i wasn't a huge fan of oysters before) My first visit I ordered from the happy hour menu; - the mussel toast -- scrumptious but very small.. it was $3. Would have rather had them charge a bit more for a bigger portion. (It was probably the size of chip for reference) - deviled eggs -- $4 for two halves of an egg () really yummy again, but i think $4 for a single egg isn't worth it tbh - french fries -- $4 standard fries.. i was just craving fries to munch on. reminds me of McDonald's - $2 oysters -- FAV! Come here just for them. - $1 clam -- good, but small. Oysters are tastier and bigger & would rather pay the $1 difference for oysters - $7 Cocktail; Paloma -- to be honest, wasn't very good at all. Super strong (which could be good for some?) but mostly tasted like alcohol and a splash of grapefruit. Wasn't really carbonated or sweet. Regular menu - Crab Dip -- $16 I got this on both times i went. So yummy & has bits of shrimp in it that adds texture & seafoody flavor. Very creamy; wish i knew how to make this myself!! - Crab Cake -- $16 for 1/$30 for 2. Really good, and big crab cakes! I was honestly full from happy hour items + crab dip but i couldn't help but finish a crab cake to myself. - Branzino -- $27 ordered on my second visit. It was good, the fish was REALLY well cooked. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Just a filet, boneless, skinless, etc. the flavors were really good but personally, I'm Asian so the sauce (fish sauce) & lettuce + daikon reminds me of something I could make/ have made at home. Probably wouldn't get again, but for those not exposed to Vietnamese food -- give this a try! (Or go to Little Saigon in South Philly lol) Overall, I really enjoyed this place and am excited to come back. Probably would only come for happy hour but definitely worth ordering from the regular menu!
Be the first to ReplyStopped in for happy hour.
Great deals and curious company. Fun for people watching and frosty martinis. Also, fellas, if you take a date to the bar for happy hour, don't harsh her for eating in tight spaces (if you read this and think it might be you, it probably is) Rude. Cheers! -R
Be the first to ReplyAwesome place for dinner.
Great selection of oyster. Service was top-notch! Great vibe also...will not disappoint.

Food and services are great though price is really high.

Last night, my husband and I visited this restaurant, but unfortunately, we were not allowed inside despite the fact that they had an empty table and one seat at the bar. We asked if we could wait, as we had been there once before and the bartender had done a great job. However, the lady at the door was clearly rude and racist, giving us judgmental looks as we are an Indian couple, even though we were dressed in formal attire. She denied us service without any explanation. We were shocked and hurt by this discrimination, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good.
Prices could be better but inflation got everything out or whack. Was in the mood for cold and hot (only reason that I didn't go royal tower. Clams casino think they used little necks to execute. The mixture was great just a little more to be desired using the smallest of clam. Had the mussels, they had a nice flavor but would have preferred a chickie and Pete's rendition. Cocktail shrimp and east coast oysters (can't remember the name) was great. Boo had the chicken sandwich and said it was good (he ate it all) think he was being honest. Overall pricey for the setup but it was a great date night. Couldn't go upscale with commentary because crop tops and sneakers (on the women) are the standard dress.

Food: 3/5 - devils egg are salty, casino clams are smaller than your thumbs. Oysters & mussels were the only 2 things that tasted good.Drinks: 3/5 - drinks were basically water.Ambiance: 4/5 - cute design but much smaller than expected, since they only have bar section for happy hours, everyone were basically clumped into the bar while the tables remained empty most of the time.Service: 5/5 - friendly waitstaff Host/hostess: 0/5 - rude, unless you're sitting at the table (not happy hour) then they will smile & greet you politely. They're short with patrons who's waiting for happy hours. Don't expect to take a look around without being stared at or questioned.

We came for oysters and our fave drink(lemon drops!) and they delivered!! Our drinks were off menu but they're skilled bartenders so no worries there. The Service was great! Our waitress was very knowledgeable & broke down the difference in the oysters so we knew what to try. We had a dozen pink pearl oysters and two Samish bay. The pink pearl oysters are your traditional oysters nothing crazy. The Samish bay were flavorful, rich, & briny. We also tried the Al pastor octopus and the shrimp bruschetta. Both were great! If you love a raw bar I'd definitely recommend Pearl & Mary. HEADS UP though come like 10mins sooner than your rez we came right on time and still had to wait about 8mins for a table to clear(wound up sitting on the far end of the bar , we were starving!). It was a Thursday night and they were really busy! Also it's a small and dimmed lit place so be prepared to get cozy with strangers lol.

Came in for happy hour and the oysters were $2 each and pretty good. Clam chowder was yummy and lobster roll was good too but not the best. We both got the Paloma drink which was $7 each and tasted great! Our server was also really lovely as well.

We were able to make a reservation online. Once we arrived we were quickly seated. Our server was amazing and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. The place is small and I can see it feeling uncomfortable if too many people are there at once. The server recommended the oysters and they were delicious. I had the chowder and it was meaty and tasty. The burger and fries were so good. The tequila julup is so light & refreshing w/ the right amount of alcohol. My husband enjoyed the fried fish and the tuna sandwich was good. Overall a great experience and worth a stop in.
Be the first to ReplyService was excellent.
Cocktails were ok, fairly weak and not that flavorful. Oysters were good but all the food came out at the same time, so some of the food started getting cold pretty quickly when we were going back and forth between the oysters, apps, and entrees. We had ordered the squid and it was becoming more and more chewy as it was getting cold. The red snapper was saturated in soy sauce and the sauce was overwhelming the flavor of the snapper. Felt pretty rushed overall. This place has potential but isn't quite there yet.
