Restaurant Palais Royal is located in the Palais Royal, so it's nice to be on quiet private grounds and to be able to walk around before and after your meal. There's an a la carte option, but we did the tasting, which was 215€. As the chef is Greek, there were some Greek touches throughout the menu, which was a unique spin on fine dining in Paris. 1. "Mezze": feta with herbs, tarama, egg -- "Greek salad": beets, grape, pickled onion, olives, with feta ice cream and a wonderful olive oil - Brioche with lemon zest and herbs, warm, meant for dipping the leftover sauce from the Greek salad - Tart with feta, yellow wine, herbs- Crispy biscuit filled with a cream of codfish eggs, topped with shaved foie gras and taragon- Fried puff of potato with egg yolk and honey 2. Bread service: Regular bread and kalamata olive bread with olive oil from the chef's friend in Greece and a cute dish of dried oregano on the side 3. Steamed asparagus with lemon, lemon balm, vanilla oil, asparagus and lemongrass ice cream Warm "pita" round with caviar 4. Blue lobster roasted on a corn leaf - an entire tail, perfectly seasoned and cooked. If came with al dente ravioli filled with corn and parmesan, cauliflower roasted in lemon. The sauce was corn jus with lemongrass. On the side was a lightly battered lobster fritter that was essentially all all lobster. This was one of the best lobster dishes I can recall having 5. Sole steamed with lemon and herb, mussel, confit potato, white asparagus, spinach, spring peas, saffron sauce, kaffir oil, fennel, and lemon - so many spring ingredients that went so well together with each other and the seafood 6a. Milk fed lamb roasted in oregano, with artichoke, chickpeas, and a sauce of lemon jus with oregano. Sweetbreads came on the side 6b. For my pescatarian menu, I had a very large prawn (the size of a lobster tail) seared in kombu and honey, zucchini marinated in lemon (super interesting preparation), tempura flour "zucchini," basil sauce, fried squash blossom flower. I was very happy with my substitution! 7. Lemon mascarpone sorbet with tagete, verbena 8. Strawberry, elderflower, vanilla: caramelized mille feuille with strawberry sorbet, and a side of amazing strawberries with elderflower cream 9. Mignardaises - Fried donuts in cinnamon sugar filled with cinnamon ice cream - like a churro but better - Greek yogurt ice cream with vanilla honey caramel Between when we made the reservation and actually dined there, they went from 1 star to 2 Michelin stars. Service was gracious, but some courses came close together while others had a long gap, and oddly enough, both for us and the table next to us, they brought the first dessert while one person was in the restroom, then we had to get someone's attention for them to come back and explain the dish. My husband was also off put by his search for the restroom during which no one helped him. The food was one of the best that we had on this trip, but we just expected more polished service at this level. That said, I can put the small gaps aside because again, the food was wonderful.
