Oxalis Reviews from The Last Year
This is a five-star restaurant.
I would highly recommend making a reservation if you want to eat here. Also, there's valet parking. The atmosphere, food, and the service are all top-notch at the Al Biernat's North! Nothing is left unturned here. I had a wonderful experience and the fantastic food. Very friendly staff and they're over the top with their service. They pay attention to all your needs during your meal. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Love this addition to the neighborhood.
I celebrated a Birthday with some friends recently and everyone raved!
Ordered the prix-fixe for my husband's birthday.
Everything was made really well and the service was great, but I don't really like fish and it was a very fish forward menu which we couldn't have known before we went because it wasn't listed anywhere. Dimly lit and not overly pretentious for a prix-fixe place.

Oxalis is considered a neighborhood bistro, offering a 3-course prix-fixe and a seasonal carte blanche menu. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday during the spring, and we opted for the carte blanche. This offered: +green asparagus, toasted rice, tapioca +white asparagus, pecan butter, yeast +spring greens tart with avocado +bread, butter, smoked soubise +summer flounder, cherry blossom, green strawberry (went for the supplemental addition of the caviar) +potato and seaweed stew, ramps +sea scallop, knotweed, green almond +heritage chicken, almond, celtuce (adding in the Carolina gold rice, celery, chicken offal) +yogurt, coconut, citrus herbs +strawberry, marzipan +fruits and caramels The carte blanche seems to change often, depending on the seasonal ingredients and it's really up to the chef of what they want to serve you. Most of the food was a bit on the saltier side; the bread was noticeable. Service was friendly and efficient. +reservations need for the carte blanche option +tasting offered at the bar +friendly service

Came back one more time before they close for renovations/ the great move to a new location. Last year's fall menu was great, this years was simply amazing! There are vey few Michelin starred restaurants I would go back to, and happy to report Oxalis is one of the few I would come back to again and again! (for the main reason the price for quality/tastebuds). Staff are always friendly and personable, service is impeccable, ambiance (at night) is cozy and perfect for date nights or catching up with friends in the dull warm glow of the restaurant. The food! While presentation is good, its not like crazy different from what you'd see at other course meals. What makes oxalis shine are the flavor profiles and the way everything comes together like a party in your mouth. If I loved each dish separately, the cherry on top of Oxalis will always be the order and the way each dish works together in the set menu to laud cohesiveness in flavors, textures, and simply all the small things that take a meal from good to great to unforgettable. PS If you're celebrating a birthday, they provide the perfect creampuff dessert. I still dream about it.... its not too sweet and perfectly crunchy/pillowy/creamy.

Came here for a friend's birthday celebration and it was a 10/10. I've been meaning to come here for years and the Carte Blance menu was worth the wait. I have been to Bar Spero in DC, so I was excited for the Johnny Spero collab earlier this year, but was very sad to cancel due to unforeseen reasons. The food: There wasn't a thing we didn't love. Some stood out over others, but everything was delicious, innovative, and memorable - a French/Japanese fusion. We enjoyed all the wine pairings as well - most of them were from France and outstanding. The service: Possibly the star of the show. True fine dining service down to the last detail. Plates and cutlery were seamlessly replaced after each course, empty glasses were cleared as soon as they hit the table, the servers were lovely and very entertaining, and the chef himself even brought a couple courses to our table. Also, they went above and beyond for my friend's birthday. There was a lovely card waiting for us when we arrived at the table and they brought out an additional dessert with a candle! The servers informed us that the restaurant is closing at the end of the month to move to a more intimate venue - hard to imagine, since it's already small! I just hope I can get a table there. Really looking forward to coming back.

This place is incredible! Not only is the food one of the best I've had in NYC, the waitstaff is so kind, caring, and attentive. You will not regret your experience here. The atmosphere, the music, everything was fine tuned to perfection. Would definitely recommend!
Superb food, excellent service and relaxing atmosphere.
The staff and the chef are friendly and knowledgeable, what more can one ask for!
Food is solid and service is great.
I will say, while delicious, it was definitely overpriced so proceed with caution. We got the cart blanche, and we ordered one drink. It came out to ~420$ with tax and tip. I made a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday and they wrote him a card and gave us a free birthday dessert. The entire staff seemed to know it was his birthday (an fyi if you're lowkey about birthdays). They use a lot of asian flavors here. The food portions are small but we were SO full by the end of it. Steak was solid and so was the fish (like a fancy filet-o-fish). I believe they have seasonal menus so maybe it'll change by the time you see this review! I also loved the bread. Overall, we had a great time here. I'm not sure if the price was worth it for the tasting menu, but the service was A+. I probably wouldn't do the tasting menu again.
Lovely and surprising
Amazingly understated venue - the entrance belies the sophistication inside. Bigger than one can see from the sidewalk - excellent wait staff - poised and professional- limited menu so check before making a reservation but they honor food allergy issues. A la carte or small prefix - either way the food was delicious and the presentation was outstanding
Attention to detail in every sense.
. warm ambiance, unmatched service and the prix fix was incredible. Will definitely come back! A much needed gem around here.
Michelin star ratings, like any rating, are subjective.
More often than not, in my opinion, having a star is more a marketing tactic, and we fell for it yet again. Food is good but not memorable, and 200 USD pp after tax and tip for dinner (before beverages) is unwarranted. The portions are simply not substantive enough. I left hungry and wondering what I had just paid for, which is for a Michelin star. Oooo. If you got dough to blow you'll have an good enough time and can impress anyone you're trying to woo, whether for business or pleasure. For everyone else there are plenty of other places to check out instead. Lots of kick ass places with zero Michelin stars which I'm happy to recommend.
