Ate here again, 7 years later.
What an Excellent dinner. Not cheap by any means, but service was top notch and the food/wine/cocktails were all delicious. I would not be surprised if this place is handed a Michelin star in the future. Go here for a special occasion - you will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food and the staff is friendly.
The steak I had was great and the special scallop dish was good too. The paella's was good and had everything that a good paella should have but just a little salty.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was incredible.
It was like we had one waiter assigned just to our table. He was always there when we needed him. We had the twin lobsters which we served in a hot pot. They were completely shelled so we never had to touch a cracker. The gave us two types of butter; one was seasoned while the other was just melted. The ambiance of the restaurant was top notch. If I ever had the chance, I would return without thinking twice. This was a place to keep in mind if I ever return to Boston.

The restaurant would be five stars if it wasn't for a bit of confusion with the wait staff. There were almost too many people waiting on our table, and it cost confusion as to what we had already ordered. The restaurant was extremely modern. Everything was white and marble, the most notable dish for me was the monkfish, which was extremely flaky and cooked perfectly.
Be the first to ReplyOysters - accruements were excellent.
Oysters were good but not enough brine for my taste. Caviar was good. Again, the accruments/sides were excellent. Linguini bolognese was average. Paella - fish cooked perfectly and the seasonings were spot on. However, it was a tad dry from being overcooked as the sauce was a little burned on the sides of the pans. Wine was excellent. Although food was very good, this is lime fast food fine dining. The uptempo music is bordering like being at a casino and the staff rush everything with two of my dishes almost being thrown on the table. They just seem like they want you in and out fast so they can keep turning tables which takes away from the dining experience.

The food and service here was wonderful, but the ambiance was just ok. Busy, but very quiet. Not sure I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an experience.
.. excellent service, taste, preparation and vibe! This place is a winner! Lovely wine list to boot...
Be the first to ReplyOstra has become our "special occasion" restaurant.
It feels luxurious without being stuffy. I've never had anything less than outstanding off their menu. The fried oysters with cornichon remoulade is perfectly crispy, buttery, and flavorful. There's something subtly elegant about receiving your martini in the shaker (plus you end up with extra!) The staff goes above and beyond to make the dining experience enjoyable, without being intrusive. The decor and chandeliers are GORGEOUS. It's one of the few QUIET restaurants left; you forget how nice it is to not have to raise your voice to have a convo.

It has been years since we've been here - always remember it as over the top food. Not so much last night unfortunately. Service and ambiance were great - felt like a nice fancy night out. The food was lacking. My wife had the monkfish saddle. Too big, too much butter, too much salt - couldn't taste the fish. I had the paella. I was excited for all the listed seafood. When it arrived it was dry - had clearly been cooked a while ago and sat under a heat lamp. The seafood (mussels, clams, calamari, lobster) was pretty dried out and chewy - the calamari in particular - like rubber. The rice base was also pretty dry. Two appetizers (just OK), two drinks each, and the mains above plus tip was $350. Yikes. We won't be back unfortunately.
Be the first to ReplyVery well cooked salmon and appetizers.
Mixed drinks were amazing but over priced. Nice atmosphere and music
Be the first to ReplyExceptional food, but lazy service.
Loved this place because we definitely had the best seafood in Boston here. We started off with the yellowfin tuna tartare. It was super fresh with perfectly balanced flavors. For entrees, we had the grilled sea brim and the simply grilled Branzino. Both dishes were extremely flavorful, yet light. We also shared the shishito peppers, which were rather lemony, but we still enjoyed them. The chocolate torte with the vanilla ice cream was pretty good, not kind blowing though. Service was pretty bad considering the caliber of the restaurant. Our waitress did not take the time to recommend anything on the menu. We had to ask for bread to be brought to the table after waiting and noticing that they forgot. Our waters were not refilled the entire time while we were eating our entrees. Additionally, the bread plates, which we set off to the side of the table, were not picked up until the table was completely cleared before dessert. Someone other than our waitress came to take our dessert order. It was a Sunday night and it was not that busy at the time we had dinner, so the lack of attentive service was disappointing.

Oysters were amazing! Service was patient and on top of things. That's all you need to know.

Be the first to ReplyOstra is a one-michelin star restaurant located in the
Ostra is a one-michelin star restaurant located in the heart of Boston, MA. We came to Ostra to celebrate our anniversary during our trip to Boston. I reserve this place a month earlier but I think getting a table here is not difficult.Moving forward to the dishes we had:Starter: 1. Oysters: Boston is very well-known for their oysters and of course we had to try the ones in Ostra. It is good but it is not amazing, definitely can find better oysters in non-michelin star restaurants.2. Sea Bass Tartare: I am a big fan of any tartare. This one might be one of my favorites. The sea bass is soft and delicate, melts in the mouth. Topped with few slices of truffle which were married well together.Mains:1. Ricotta Gnocchetti: For me this one is good but I'm not really into gnocchetti. The dish is well executed and some lobsters that go well with it. Overall not bad! 2. Paella: I was really excited for their paella especially it include boston seafood. But I was quite disappointed by this dish. Although the dish has a generous portion of seafood, but the rice itself is lacking of aromatic flavors. It tasted quite dull and not appetizing. We could not much of it.3. Branzino: This branzino is also a huge miss. There is also a lack of flavors in the fish, perhaps it missed some seasoning. Dessert:1. Panna Cotta: I always order Panna Cotta wherever I go. This one is good but not amazing. I've had better ones.2. Snow Egg: I think this dessert is pleasing to the eye and definitely photogenic. But taste-wise, is not so much. A huge miss too.In terms of ambiance, it is great. Spacious restaurant, tall ceiling great vibe. Servers are pretty good, kind to explain the dishes well.Overall this place is more suitable for family or work dinner. I would not really recommend this place for a date. The food here doesnt spark nor memorable in any way.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is very lovely with a modern vibe but IMO
The restaurant is very lovely with a modern vibe but IMO lacked character. Also, I've been spending a a majority of my time in CA and HI so this could be an east coast thing. We made ressies at the bar and when looking for the drink menu it took our asking for the servers to let us know they were being reprinted. I know when I'm going to a $$$$ restaurant, part of the cut of my bill is going to rent. That being said, I don't want my cocktail to cost half the price of a full bottle of the liquor. It seems excessive. Also, no discount if you buy a bottle versus four glasses. The manager (maybe, seemed like a manager) was delightful and very personable. Maybe I made too many stink faces, but I didn't get the level of interaction with the actual bartenders I normally enjoy at restaurants with this caliber of staff. For the first course, the dumplings were absolutely lovely and very flavorful (though bathed is butter). The main course, monkfish, was wonderfully prepared and very tender however the secret ingredient was once again butter. Lots of butter. I know I'm being a brat, but when a chef knows that they're doing, it seems excessive butter is a copout. I think these days when I'm eating at nicer restaurants, I am more excited about a unique blend of flavors, for at home I am able to bathe fish in butter and know I'll make it taste good. So yeah, it seems the use of butter, cream, and carbs is how things were done in the 90s. I should've stuck to the raw menu is what it comes down to.This place is fine. I didn't hate it!! I'm coming back to Boston in a month and am not even sure about trying an affiliate. Maybe we'll see how Sorellina compares. Stay tuned
Be the first to ReplyHad high hopes and was horribly let down.
My friend and I went to Ostra pre-show. We ordered two raw dishes, two small plates, and a side of greens. Our servers switched sometime after our raw course was served. My guess is a miscommunication occurred because we then waited 45+ minutes before meeting our new server. We let them know about our time crunch (we had allotted two hours for our meal-- an ample amount of time). The server assured us that our next course would be up in a couple of minutes. Another 20-25 minutes went by and we were left with less than 10 minutes to eat. The food tasted mostly good, with the exception of the greens. Overall, not worth the price, in my opinion. Especially not worth it when you don't have enough time to enjoy it because you've waited over an hour between courses. We spoke to our server about the poor service. Nothing was done to rectify it. Safe to say, I won't be returning or recommending to anyone. It was quite the let down and definitely not the commendable Michelin star-worthy service we'd heard praise of. One star given for the pretty atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I ordered Crispy Native Oysters, Ricotta
My husband and I ordered Crispy Native Oysters, Ricotta Gnocchetti, Grilled Sea Bream, and Turbot. Everything was great and portion sizes were just right. I wish they had better dessert menu. All dessert items were mentioned in other people's reviews as Blah. So, I did not order. And there was northing new to give it a chance.
Be the first to ReplySo Boston doesn't have a Michelin guide.
But if they did, I would bet real money that Ostra would be deserving of a star or two. For starters, the service was impeccable. The gentleman who poured water never spilled a drop and made sure our entire meal that our water glasses were never more than half empty. And he had other responsibilities, too. Catherine, our server, was extraordinary. She had a lot of tables and was running around, but was knowledgeable and made us feel special. The food was very special - practically everything on the menu was delicious, but for the two most expensive dishes - the branzino (which cost $250!) and the Wagyu, which was unfortunately overcooked and too stringy vs. the melt in your mouth Wagyu one would expect for that price point. But the sides, oysters, all of the first courses, paella, and lobster (what a SPECIAL dish) + the service + the wine selection made the dinner really special. We walked out full, happy, and out $200 a person, but it was worth it. I would probably get a double order of the lobster next time and skip the steak and branzino. Truly special spot.
Be the first to ReplyI agree that it is subpar.
we tried a variety of things on the menu and I have to say my two favorites were the bread and the pasta - which is odd considering it seemed to be known for seafood
Be the first to ReplyOstra is one of the best restaurants in Boston.
I had the opportunity to try a lot of their menu and everything was pretty great. Some standouts were the Wellfleet Oysters, Octopus, Hamachi, Fettuccine, and Salmon Tartare w the toast. For Entrees, Ribeye (it could have been a bit bigger), Snapper, Branzino and Paella, mushrooms and fries on the side for the win too. We were a party of 6 and I think everyone at the table agreed.
Be the first to ReplyAs always, beautiful delicious food and impeccable service.
Ostra has been one of my favorite places for a Mediterranean seafood menu for years. This past minute we had a split a kale salad to start and had the lobster gnocchi appetizer, Both of which were nice and refreshing. For dinner I had the Columbia river grilled salmon and my husband ordered the monkfish, of course as usual we had no complaints. The manager is wonderful always caring for the guests.
Be the first to ReplyCould be my favorite restaurant ever!!! Food: 10/10We had
Could be my favorite restaurant ever!!! Food: 10/10We had the octopus and lobster gnocchi appetizers and both were HEAVENLY. I could eat these every day for the rest of my life! Also ordered the fried calamari which was okay, I've had better. To be fair the waitress said it wasn't her favorite but we love calamari so we ordered it. For my entree I had sea bass fillets, they were very soft and flavorful. It didn't feel too heavy yet I left feeling full. My mom ordered another order of the lobster gnocchi for her entree because it was that good! My dad had the seafood paella which he said was really good as well. For a more expensive restaurant, the portion sizes were big! I would say reasonably priced for the quality.Didn't have enough room for dessert. If I get to come back, will definitely try something!Ambiance: 10/10Everything looks so clean and modern! Fancy vibe. Service: 10/10Our server was so nice and was so enthusiastic, she sold us on every dish but she was so right about them!!! She was very attentive and our water glasses were never empty. The wait time for the food wasn't long eitherWill definitely return if I ever come back to Boston!
Be the first to ReplyIt was one of the best experience in Boston' restaurant.
The tartars were so delicious! Fish was gently accompanied by sauce. Paella taste is so incredible with full of seafood and meet mix. Cocktails were the best! And staff was so kind. Highly recommend this place
Be the first to ReplyUpon entering, the place feels upscale and elegant.
Started with a good random malbec into Carpaccio that was excellent, best I've had with layers of mushroom, truffle, melt in your mouth beef, to finish with a slight sweet lemon. Influenced by the carpaccio and waitress recommendation, I got lured In and went risk on for roasted local monkfish with Vermont mushrooms. Should have gone risk off for the paella with lobster, shrimp, octopus, squid, mussels, chorizo, and I forget what else. The monkfish was light and a bit dry, requiring swishes in the mushroom sauce. It wasn't bad, just kind of eh. I was done with it because I didn't want any more, not because the plate was cleared. The wife's filet was good but "not the best" as she said. It was a generally average filet, with a bit of a char that wouldn't be pleasing to all, and I thought whatever they drizzled on it was a bit sweet and didn't compliment the steak. At the same time the filet itself was rather bland. A better idea would be to do the filet with the Vermont mushroom stuff instead of the monkfish; the earthiness would have complimented her dish better than mine. Good service and upscale atmosphere complete with some weird background club music and loud conversations that filled the restaurant. Despite their dress code listed on their website and attempted elegance, people were still in jeans, t-shirts, and shorts in a loud restaurant. They tried.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to celebrate a graduation.
Incredible food, beautiful interior and really nice service. Pricy, but worth it.
