Very poor show Orelle!! ☹️👎
In December, my husband and I had a good experience at Orelle - so much so that when I was contemplating where to celebrate our daughter’s 21st birthday, I thought the experience we’d had 4 months ago would be the ideal thing. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong! A rare opportunity for us to go out with our children who are now away from Birmingham for studies and work, and what was meant to be a special celebration for our daughter, was RUINED by the well below average service (for any restaurant, let alone one which makes the claims that Orelle does). I came away very much resenting having spent that sort of money on such a rotten experience, particularly the LAUGHABLE service charge of £73. Appalling service completely negated any positives gained from eating the food. I’ll compare the two visits … 1) DECEMBER - within minutes of settling at our table, the wine waiter was with us and sorting our napkins etc. YESTERDAY we waited 15 minutes or more before someone came and asked if we wanted water? 10/15 mins after that we were brought some water 2) DECEMBER - not long after the wine waiter had been, our waiter for the evening appeared, brought us warm bread and took our order. The rest of the evening pretty much flowed in that way with no noticeable waiting between courses, attentive waiters and great food, cocktails and wine. 3) YESTERDAY - after we had been there for over an hour, a member of our party had to get up from our table to ask a waiter to come and, at the very least take a drinks order. Whilst we were waiting for our drinks, some bread arrived. We then had to call a different passing waiter to ask him to take our food order. We had different waiters of differing calibres serving our table, one of whom was leaning across members of our party to pick up menus from in front of other guests at the table. The service was ABYSMAL The interminable waiting was awful and when we got our food, no waiting staff returned to ask how it was or to check on us as a table. We had to try and get their attention practically every time we needed anything. However, we watched the same waiters returning to other tables - diners who arrived after us getting drinks and food before us, etc. etc. The food was generally good although: - we had to request that one guest be brought the missing sauce for their starter. - one guest had confirmed her allergy to red wine on our arrival, so her steak was served to her with NO sauce, instead of ensuring she got an alternative without red wine - which we all know any chef worth their salt would have provided! - the menu provides 3 sides: 2 types of potatoes and broccoli. We were informed there were no chips which meant it was broccoli, mash or nothing - 3 of us chose duck for our main course, only to be told when our order was eventually taken, that it was sold out! - some members of our party enjoyed their food a lot more than others - I’ll leave that comment at that! Having arrived at 8.30pm we were served our main course sometime around 10.30pm and when we enquired at 11 what the likely turnaround time would be for ordering dessert, we were told that it would be a ‘long time’ because they were busy. So, at 11.15pm we decided to leave without dessert in order to get back in time to relieve the carer looking after our disabled son. On making the booking, I had stated what the special occasion was, and had requested a table by the window for the view of the city. We were not placed by the window, but a different table of similar size had that privilege - perhaps they had a special occasion too. That would not have mattered so much if there had been any sign of recognition of the fact that we were there for a special celebration. No staff mentioned it or asked whose birthday it was or anything. That was hugely disappointing. Poor POOR show Orelle!

Wonderful Sunday Lunch One of the best restaurants in Birmingham Great service, decor and views but the food is the star
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant experience
Professional staff, great food and a fantastic view from the 27th floor. I had filet with the triple cooked chips, really well seasoned and tender steak. Great choice of drinks especially the cocktails

Orelle is a great venue but the food today was unexceptional. My terrine starter looked great and was OK but it really tasted of very little. For the main course I had roast sirloin. It came pink as I ordered it and it was fine. However the rest of it was really pretty ordinary. Roast potatoes lacked fluffiness, Yorkshire puddings were left uneaten by everyone on the table and the veg were not great. The red cabbage was awash with raisins and over spiced. All in all I find it hard to recommend unless you just want the great view.

Great Atmosphere, Amazing Service, Decent Food Just swung by Orelle and it was fantastic! The place was spotless, with awesome views and just the right amount of buzz. Cocktails? Mind-blowing. Food was decent, nothing to complain about though. Great spot for a chill night out!

Visited for Easter Sunday. Setting, ambience and service was superb and couldn’t be faulted. Food was a 6/10. The roast dinner wasn’t the greatest - reheated roast potatoes, under cooked parsnips, dry and bland meat and dough style Yorkshire pudding. Real shame as although everything else was on point, the star of the show is the food. Would I visit again? Yes, but not in a hurry.

Birthday meal with family . Ruined .Arrived at 3.30 pm. Ordered drinks but took 15 minutes to arrive . Then advised there was no aspall cider , i only drink cider and no other options . After 45 mins I chased starters and they finally arrived after nearly an hour . We all had the mackerel starter which was disappointing. Fish was no bigger than a finger nail .. so hungry after . I asked the mains came straight away as we feared another long wait . Waiter assured 4 minutes away . Again we waited for another half an hour . Finally … Took further ten minutes to get extra gravy and horseradish. Why didn’t they just bring this on arrival ? We had pre requested extra gravy . Beef was ok but Yorkshire pudding hard and over cooked , tasted like it had been made hours ago . Dry cauliflower cheese . Pork was full of fat and out of two slices , one slice was pure fat . I suggested we had a pudding but my husband said it’s just too painful . Had enough and asked for bill , advised the waiter food was rubbish . Bill came less 25 % which was an insult. Paid and left . Much better places for Sunday lunch . They don’t seem to care if you complain as enough people trawling through .

Sunday lunch was bland, very disappointing. Asked for medium beef and got rare, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes very dry and clearly reheated. Watery, tasteless gravy and an undercooked parsnip you couldn’t get a knife through. Sad because the restaurant is beautiful and the staff are lovely, great service but not worth the money and won’t return. Much better restaurants in town to spend your £££.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent start to the New Year!
Orelle had been recommended by a couple of friends, so we decided to visit for lunch, as our first meal outing for the year. Absolutely cannot fault the service and experience we had. Having previously worked in the Catering/Hospitality industry for over 10 years, I have to say that the experience we had here was outstanding. So many examples of excellent hospitality. We were welcomed into the beautiful setting from the outset, and shown to our table promptly. Ricardo happily explained further around items on the menu that we may have had questions about, and we decided to order from the Prix Fixe menu. Ricardo and Ray were friendly and attentive, and ensured that dietary requirements were adhered to. Every course, and the side orders we had were absolutely delicious! So impressed with the flavours, and how well they worked together. Compliments to the Chef! We were advised around the lovely views, so this was one of the reasons we had felt encouraged to visit . Unfortunately on the day we attended there was low visibility/rain and grey skies so I assume that this part of the experience could have been even better for us, however the service and experience we had more than made up for this. Truly hope we get to visit again when the weather is more glorious! Thank you Orelle for making our first meal of 2024 so special.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant value fine dining
I have visited twice now in the last month. The first time was my first visit and that was for a work event in the evening. I got a little confused about how to get in as it didn't feel right going into an office block to get to a restaurant! The views are great, the service is spot on and the food is delicious. I then took my husband and a friend back a week later for lunch on a Saturday. We arrived a bit early and waited in the bar downstairs with a drink before getting the lift up. It was really busy but everything was still perfect and it's amazing value on the prix fixe menu. As a vegetarian there is only one option for starters and mains on this menu and so I ate the same both times but it was delicious and so I didn't mind. If I did go again, it would mean probably not picking from this menu or waiting until a new menu is out. It's interesting to go at different times of the day but I did prefer the evening with the lighting and views (not that Birmingham isn't interesting to watch in the day!); you could almost be in a New York bar. A great value dining experience I wish I'd discovered earlier!

We had a lovely three course set meal. The service was excellent, professional and friendly. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared. We had a window table, so we're able to enjoy the view from the 24th floor. Live music was very nice. There were several choices for each course. However I found it quite surprising that a restaurant of this calibre had sold out of the chicken crown by 14.30.
Be the first to ReplyPoor and rude service - totally inflexible
Very poor and rude service. We went with friends to celebrate birthdays and ordered chefs tasting menu with mine pairing. We politely asked if we could swap the dessert wine with a different wine given no one liked sweet wine and we were bluntly told no. We had to ask the manager to come over who also was incredibly rude, pretentious and made us feel very uncomfortable. When they finally agreed, they brought over 3 different bottles of wine all with the dregs in and proceeded to pour half glasses full of sediment to make their point. We have been to many beautiful restaurants with wine pairings and always ask for a different option for sweet wine and NEVER have we been made to feel so awful about asking, particularly when we were paying well over £200 a head. I would not recommend this restaurant.

We visited on Saturday night as a party of seven celebrating one of our group’s 30th birthday. The booking process was not easy and began with me reserving via The Fork only to be told this is only looked at once a week and it was too late to accept a booking for so many. Anyway eventually after a lot (six or more) phone calls and a lot of begging it was all sorted. I would recommend calling to book. After this we had to pre order our meals and pay a deposit given party size which was reasonable enough. Now on to the positives. The ambience in the restaurant is really spot on from the moment you step off the elevator: the triple height ceiling, live music, original artwork and beautiful decor all really adds to the excitement and the views of the city below are magical. We had three courses with drinks, staying about 2 hours and with the bill with tip coming to just over £100 a head, which we felt was okay for the overall experience. The food is good (if not amazing) but the service is brilliant and the atmosphere even better so it’s a hard experience to fault really. I think I would give them a second try and this restaurant is definitely one to consider as a special treat / celebratory meal. Recommended.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food fab views patronising staff
We enjoyed the food and the views but not the service. I would not normally comment on waiting staff but we both felt patronised during the whole meal. We love fine dining and know our way around modern French cuisine. We do not need to be reminded that we were ‘having an experience’ and asking if it was special occasion. No we came in for lunch with a great view which we can afford. And the door down to washrooms was sticky with food(?) needed a good clean
Be the first to ReplyGreat food experience.
The food and experience was one of the best we have had. Very well presented. Some delay but it was very busy. Mackerel starter. Shared beef rib eye. Cooked to perfection. Beautiful setting. Super views from the 27th floor. Staff very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. Some allergies very well managed by staff and chefs. Others here have advised of delays and we experienced some but it was fully booked. But the food was worth it. It's a nice place for a special occasion or treat. We will return.

Excellent A La Carte menu. I had salmon starter and Shared beef which were both excellent. Caramel for desert! Service was exceptional and the team very friendly. We sat at a table with fabulous views across the Birmingham sky line. We both loved everything about the restaurant. We would definitely go again x
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful place, terrible service
Popped in for drinks before dinner at another venue. Lots and lots of staff there but service is shockingly slow. You have to practically wave the staff down to get a drink. Beautiful venue, stunning view but please sort the service out. Could see into where staff pass through and one waiter was busy staring at his phone for the whole hour we were there. Really unprofessional and at £81 for 4 glasses of wine you don’t expect it. Very unprofessional.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t waste your time. Much better bars in town
Awful service. Telephoned ahead of heading over there to book a few drinks in the bar upstairs. Was told that it’s fine I couldn’t book but if I headed over now it was quiet. Turned up and was told that you could only go there on a Saturday if you were eating and the phones are manned by an agency. No apology, just try it’s it sorry. Either have a drink here or that’s it.

An incredibly beautiful spot with wonderful ambiance. I think first and foremost I was really impressed with the service, the staff were wonderful - especially our server who was incredibly informative and accommodating to my dietary requirements (halal, no alcohol) without me even asking. I was unaware the sauce with the seabass came with alcohol but she ensured to arrange with the chef to give me an alcohol-free substitute right away which I found to be very thoughtful as not a lot of places would go out of their way. I had the seabass which was delicious, with a cheesecake for dessert. It was a bit disappointing the cheesecake was the only halal friendly dessert option as I would have hoped they would be a bit more inclusive, especially in a diverse city like birmingham. But it was still pretty good considering i'm not a huge cheesecake fan to begin with. My friend had the filet for mains, and tropical pavlova for dessert which she said were absolutely phenomenal. For drinks we also had mocktails - which I can't remember the names of - but they were nice. Nothing amazing, but alright. Would definitely come back again in the future as I did enjoy my experience but would be great if they had some more vegetarian/halal friendly options - or the option to call ahead and arrange halal meat for dishes.

Top class service from the moment we walked in. Such a personal touch being shown to our table by the Gm who talked about the venue and his experience. It was a birthday surprise from my partner and honestly it couldn’t get any better. Food was just amazing, completely worth the price. Cote de boeuf was plated by our table. We were served by Salvador and a lovely lady (sorry, didn’t catch her name). It was so refreshing to see the huge knowledge and passion of our servers. A massive thank you to the whole team who made our night very special.
Be the first to ReplyMother’s Day meal
Visited her for Mother’s Day 2023, this was both the first trip to the restaurant for myself and my mother, the food was great, the view out of the restaurant was great, the restaurant decor was beautiful and the staff were well presented and helpful, even the restaurant owner (who we were in the lift with) was pleasant to talk with and very knowledgeable. My only gripe was that the deserts took 15-20 minutes to come to us whereas the starter and mains were quite prompt to the table. Will go at least twice again. Once for lunch menu and an evening visit for the live music atmosphere.

Promised they could meet dietary requirements when booking, and then confirmed again on phone day before, then they could not provide on arrival. Wine "expert" terrible and absolutely not worth paying for the wine flight. Have contacted customer service regarding this and had zero response, so rude. Overall whilst did enjoy parts of the food and experience it was absolutely not worth the money.

I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to on this occasion. I wanted to wait for a special occasion to go here so when one came around I knew Orelle was where I wanted to spend it. The doors of the lift opened and the views honestly were incredible. A lovely man took our coats and we didn't catch his name! He had brown hair I think! We started off in the bar, I love lychee martinis but they didn't have any. However it was no problem for them to make it, along with the guy I was with Mojito! We were quickly showed to our table and the waitress was super kind, funny and attentive! All of the tables point outward so you're looking at the view and we didn't even notice anybody leave! I think we were there from 9PM till 12! We weren't rushed out and were waited on perfectly. I loved the bread so much that they bought more to the table. I had the beef tartar starter, the cod main and banana and chocolate dessert- amazing! Portions are great and you can add sides for the main. The guy who took our coats also sent over 2 complimentary espresso martinis which made our night. Thank you all for making my first time here so memorable. I 100% will be back and won't be surprised if this restaurant has a Michelin star long-term. Thanks guys! Lucy Pearson
