Great service, delicious and tasty delight
Stopped in on a whim. Made a reservation online and honored reservation within 15 minutes of booking. Seated right away upon arrival.
Took our drink orders and promptly delivered. Took our order and quickly delivered everything. The edamame was good and tasty but kinda plain. Wish they had a garlic or sriracha sauce one. Had an issue with one of the sashimi order. Apparently, they thought we ordered the nigiri style but the server quickly noticed and she quickly took it back and brought out the right one. Never a dry cup. Sashimi was good sized and fresh. Everything else was great.
Would definitely return and try more dishes.
Dinner with Sushi in Michelin Bib restaurant
The restaurant was chosen for a business dinner with partners because it has Michelin bib. And it deserves it. We eat sushi one or twice daily and we tried even in Japan. This is one of the best we ever tried. We asked the waitress to choose for us and everything was perfect and varied taste. The oyster sushi was memorable. The sesame ice cream (only dessert on menu) was ok but not wow. The sakes (3 different) were not so great for me but others at the table loved them. Ambiance was lively but not too noisy. A short taxi ride from downtown. A bit pricy. Would definitely return.

This was the second visit we made to Okane for lunch. Two people ordered the sushi lunch plus extra rolls. I ordered chicken karaage, blue fin tuna sashimi, agedashi tofu. The sashimi and agedashi tofu were the best I ever had. The fish was so fresh and delicious. The agedashi tofu was a generous portion and I thought it was extra nice that it came with a few pieces of vegetable tempura. I can't wait to go back again!

If you have ever been to Japan, or even if you haven't, don't waste your time. Food here was strikingly un-authentic; aside from that, it was tasteless and soul-less. We tried many different dishes, and quality was uniformly mediocre or worse. Also, most of the Japanese waitstaff were nice but seemingly embarrassed about the food. One in particular was rude and defensive when we asked why they were serving the dinner menu at Sunday lunch: "It's Father's Day and Sunday". No mention of this on their website, and a much different and more expensive menu. $190+ for 5, no drinks, lousy food.
Be the first to ReplyOur New Go-To Sushi Joint in SF (should be yours, too!)
We almost always splurge on a sushi night when up in San Francisco. Historically, Ozumo has been our goto, and it will stay in the rotation because it is great for business dinners, super conveniently located, and always consistently good.
But, we took a chance on Okane tonight and it is now our default. Yes, it is a little out of the way, but the less formal ambiance suits us, and the quality of the fish and value of the pricing means that it is unquestionably our favorite option if we can spare the time to get out there.
Everything we ordered was perfectly executed (Sashimi 8 pc chef's choice is $28 of deliciousness you should not avoid). But, tonight's Hokkaido Uni was in contention for some of the best we'd ever had (never been to Hokkaido, but have spent at least 30 days in Japan total). Also, black sesame ice cream is sublime. If you think you don't want dessert, you are wrong. It is light, but sweet, and the way you want to end your meal.
The price point of Omakase (sister restaurant) had historically scared us off as something that was no doubt worth it, but perhaps not justifiable for us. After tonight's amazingly awesome meal, we are now planning to go back to Okane whenever we are in SF, and for my husband's birthday dinner splurge we'll be hitting up Omakase.
Sit at the sushi bar and enjoy!
My colleague and I were looking for sushi and kept running into long waits, so we took an Uber to Okane and were so pleasantly surprised. The only two seats were at the sushi bar. As the chef was making a delectible salmon and avacado dish, we commented about how lovely it was and he made one for us on the spot. We ordered two specialty rolls and loved one of them so much, we ordered another. The chefs take such care with their craft and the fish looks incredibly fresh. Fast service, too. They give you water in these cut glass bottles for the table that added so much elegance to the meal. Really unexpectedly fantastic and we'll definitely go back next time we're in town!

Came here with friends for dinner. The staff were friendly and the food was good. Really enjoyed the meal. Will definitely go again.

Awesome new place for a slightly different take on Japanese food! The sushi is excellent, and the concept of sharing plates ('tapas' style, if you will) is a welcome concept of you're not in the mood for the standard rice bowl or bento 🍱 box. The grilled smelt and the mackerel karaage are amazing, and the salmon skin with sea urchin hand roll is the best. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable, and Jean is a good ambassador for the brand. Make a reservation now!

What can I say! Just delicious! The quality of the fish, is superb - any kind. The rice balanced seasoned and just cooked as it should be. The services is great and the ambience is inviting. The prices are reasonable but Okane is not cheap! Quality has a price!
