Refined Polish food in a smart setting
I went with colleagues for a celebratory dinner. The eight of us had a set menu (£45 per head). We were seated outside on the terrace on a nice summer night. The food was traditional — cold beetroot soup, marinated herring, dumplings etc. All were delicious and well cooked, especially the lamb dish. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall a very nice evening in South Kensington.

Ognisco is one of our favourite restaurants the decor lends to a great ambiance. The staff are superb and very attentive and helpful.I did feel on this occasion they had crammed to many tables in of course profit must be made but not to the discomfort of customers.I ordered The Chicken Kiev which was tough dry and barely any filling. The mashed potatoesI ordered were also luke warm and also very dry.Plus could they set a standard of dress we had made the effort because of the restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyA good night out.
Positive: venue, decor, ambience, staff. Decent: menu options, authentic feel. To work on: slightly lacking in subtlety. I’m not an expert on Polish food so maybe I’m being unfair. The food was very interesting but lacked the care of Medlar where we ate next day.
Be the first to ReplyGreat find!
Super cute (and also elegant) place in the heart of Kensington. Friendly and very helpful staff, very good dishes (obviously the pierogi are recommended) and the bill is not sky-high despite the area. A great place to try Polish cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot to eat if in Sounth Kensington
A place of historical significance as this was the haunt of the Polish govt in exile. General Anders even had his own table (i.e. the plaque). Food portions well cooked and reasonably priced. The restaurant maintains elegance and charm. The bar has abundance of polish spirits and is dominated by the portratits of Generals Anders, Sosnkowski, Bor-Komorowski and Sikorski. You can imagine the conversations had over dinner on how to overthrow the occupying Nazis/communists occupying Poland over some vodka and kielbasa.

Hi Ognisko, is it possible to get your recipe for chikhirtma? it definitely does not like traditional ones and with a slight curry flavour, absolutely love it.
Be the first to ReplyVery unwelcoming.
Food was nice, and the lady serving us was lovely. However, we were majorly let down when a glass of red wine was spilt. Another diner (friend of a regular) complained she had a splash on her skirt (fair enough) but the glass was spilt all over myself and nothing was done to help me (a new customer). They cleared the glass but offered nothing to help clear the stains. Very much felt like you had to go regularly to feel welcome…plus no room for human error!
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere and excellent food
Lovely atmosphere, great staff and delicious food. Loved everything it’s not just Polish food but elevated to next level and especially enjoyed the cocktails. Sat outside in heated area with fairly lights such a lovely and relax atmosphere
Be the first to ReplyFabulous pre show dinner
We came for an early dinner and cocktails before heading to the Royal Albert Hall. The bar was full at 5:30pm and the restaurant looked beautiful in candlelight. It’s a very smart looking place but it’s very relaxed at the same time. We had spiced beetroot martinis which were such a hit. We shared some Polish ‘gnocchi’ with mushrooms to start and we both had pork schnitzel for our mains & cheesecake for pudding. The food was absolutely delicious, we kept looking at each other nodding our heads. We will definitely be back if we are in the area.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
Went to Ognisko for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday with our family. This is a place that we have been to many times before and know well. Sadly on this occasion we were disappointed. The restaurant was overcrowded (too many tables), extremely noisy, the waiters were too busy to give proper attention to the tables, there were dogs present which we strongly object to for hygiene reasons and because they barked, the food was mediocre and the price, for the quality, was exorbitant.

Fantastic atmosphere -feels like you’re in a private club where everyone’s celebrating something and having a great time. Good level of background noise so you can talk easily, and beautifully lit The food is impeccable -if you want the full experience you punctuate the evening with vodka shots in an incredible array of flavours. For me it’s got it all and I’d go regularly if I lived in London . Impossible not to be uplifted and exhilarated by the experience.

I love Ognisko. The food is authentic and delicious, the service is impeccable, the ambiance is wonderful. Crisp white table linen, calm surroundings and no music. Please don’t ever change. Add to this the history of Ognisko, the superb location, the very special vodkas and the very good prices, and honestly what more could you want?
Be the first to ReplyOne of my all time favourites
I first visited Ognisko with my (Polish) partner about 5 years ago for her birthday as a high class experience of her home cuisine. This is not the typical Polish food you might find on a local high street, it's expertly crafted and activates all your taste buds. Since then, we make an excuse to visit on any time we can - birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries. It's our go-to restaurant for special occasions. While it's a bit pricey for an average night out, when the occasion call for it, it's very reasonable. Particularly for the quality and the fact that it's in South Kensington on the edge of Hyde Park, where most places are very overpriced. I’d recommend the chicken liver with potato pancakes and cherries, and of course the wide selection of flavoured vodkas.
Be the first to ReplyGreat choice for polish food
Myself and my parter popped by there without reservation, luckily host found us the table. Waiter whom assisted us, surprised us with knowledge all needed languages - English, Polish as expected and Italian, what made other half happy (unfortunately I haven't asked him for his name, worked on 16th of Feb, middle section). Everything explained clearly, very reasonable waiting time between dishes, we were not rushed at all, even though I'm not that fast eater! We were not interrupted at all, had comfort and privacy. Food was delicious, as usual. Sernik and honey & walnut cakes - above all our expectations Pilaf and cod mains - very fulfilling and tasty. Kopytka with mushrooms - my must have dish since I came to Ognisko very first time few years ago. Deliciousness 💖 Yeah, no pictures, we experience the restaurants, not sharing stories on social media :)
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant
One of the best restaurants in London. A hidden gem. Great setting of a dining room and all the people who work there are great. Loved all the food and the vodka a real treat. 10 out of 10
Be the first to ReplyAn absolute gem, with fantastic food and staff!
This was my first visit at this place, and it did not disappoint! Booked it as we were going to Royal Albert Hall for an event, and this restaurant was popping up in my search of the area a lot. I was a bit sceptical, as the menu looked quite heavy for lunch, and I just wasn't sure if its something my friend would enjoy. But oh how wrong was I! The place is beautiful, starting on the outside, to a wonderful and elegant interior. We were greeted by a member of staff who took our coats, and we were pointed in the bar area direction, as we wanted to have a drink first, before sitting at our table in the restaurant. Extended cocktail list, fantastic selection of classic cocktails and some modern twists, good selection of wines and champagne too. Every single member of staff is super friendly and very professional, and they were happy to chat to us and answer any questions. The restaurant was very lively for Friday afternoon, and it was great to see, buzzing atmosphere! The food was fantastic, we enjoyed barszcz soup and gulasz soup for starters, followed by mushroom gnocchi. We literally cleaned our plates it was soo delicious! I can't recommend this place highly enough, elegant, sophisticated, without being too stiff or too formal, friendly atmosphere and just fab all around! Definitely my new go-to whenever in the area!
Be the first to ReplyThe best chicken livers in town
If you haven't been to Ognisko yet, you must go there and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, but above everything else, try the chicken livers from the Bar menu. Simply amazing.
Be the first to ReplyLovely food and staff. However delays in getting meals and sides let it down.
There were 5 of us but one meal didn’t arrive until we had nearly finished. We had to ask. The sides also didn’t arrive until around 15 minutes after the mains. We also had to ask for them. This spoiled our experience somewhat. So sad as the food was great.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Service
I found this restaurant actually on Tripadvisor when I was looking for a place to go with my wife. We love polish food and were very intrigued by the fact that a polish restaurant is in the Michelin Guide. So we decided to check it out with the family (polish heritage). The ambience is very elegant. Not too posh - very welcoming from the start. Polish food and ambience should make you feel like home. It should make you happy, jolly and please your belly. All of this you can experience in this restaurant. The food is brilliant. You can feel the love they put into it and the little details which make the difference. We had a variety of food. Pierogi, Barzscht, Matjes, Rabbit etc. etc. Everything was great. They make great drinks as well. Cocktails are very good, they have a good selection of polish beer and Vodka of course. Don't forget to take a shot of Vodka after your meal. By the way, price wise it is absolutely affordable. Not overpriced at all. Especially when you see what you get. The staff is outstanding. Every single one of them is working hard, always smiling and very helpful. It was a very busy evening but they seemed to enjoy it as much as we did. Looking forward to go there again soon. This was a great experience and we certainly will be back.

This is a top polish restaurant in a beautiful and classy building. The service and the atmosphere were excellent, and the food first class.
Be the first to ReplyWill always be my favourite.
My Mama used to bring me here as a child but to the Polish club, so this building holds a lot of happy memories for me. I now bring my family and friends to the restaurant, which is absolutely wonderful. I love the menu which transports me straight to my family’s dining table in Warsaw. The decor is beautiful, artistic and tasteful.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Delight
My girlfriend and have always had a good time here but our last visit exceeded all expectations. It was booked as a birthday treat and we could not have made a better choice. The service was impeccable - delightful and attentive but not overpowering - and the food was better than ever. The ambience is elegant and spacious and even if it gets a little noisy the sound of people just having fun and enjoying themselves only enhances the experience. Thank you Jan and your fantastic team for maintaining excellent standards while so many others are slipping due to Brexit, Covid and all the rest of the problems sent to plague the hospitality industry.
Be the first to ReplyDISGUSTED
I had dinner with five of my friends last Wednesday. The service was mediocre. The two barmen at the bar was pleasant but we were served by a miserable and sour face woman in black. Despite that we had a lovely time enjoying the food and wine. We settled the bill at the end of the evening and as we left we were stopped by the said woman who complained that we did not pay the full bill. We were mortified because we had a receipt of which the amount paid was more than the total payable. I told her there must have be something wrong with her accounting system but she was adamant that the payment was short so in the end the waiter who served our table volunteered to pay the difference. We did not think it was fair for him so we paid the extra amount. Hanging around the bar disputing the payment was an embarrassment and a wonderful evening ended up with a bad taste in our mouth.
Be the first to ReplyPolish food and service at its best!
Always a great place to go. The buzz. The team. The service. The food especially the Steak Tartare. Is just all round subtle combination of all.
Be the first to ReplyGenerous portions, good cocktails.
Lovely find, generous portions, good cocktail menu, lots of different flavours. Will absolutely go again. They have a terrace that I think would be lovely.
