My husband surprised me with a wedding anniversary dinner
My husband surprised me with a wedding anniversary dinner to North Pond. We arrived slightly early but were seated immediately. They had printed prix fix menus with an additional line wishing us a happy anniversary by name, which was just wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable and fun, and greeted us by name also, wishing us a happy anniversary as we were seated. We chose to have wines paired for us, which was a perfect choice (except the dessert wine was too sweet for me but my husband enjoyed it). Our server had facts about every wine that we joked could have been made up but sounded good (she had a great sense of humor).First course: Mushroom Ceviche for husband, Carrot Mussels for me. My second favorite of the whole night. Wonderful acid, wonderful everything. We tasted each others starter but kept coming back to our own.Second course: Octopus and Sweet Potato for me, Rabbit Pierogi for husband. My #1 favorite of the night. It is rare to find octopus that a) has flavorful accompaniments and b) is not overcooked. I would eat that every day. I also really enjoyed tasting my husband's rabbit which I loved (pierogi was OK). He loved it all.Main course: I had halibut biryani and he had Waygu Carrot. He loved every bit of it. I loved everything but the halibut, which was a bit salty and chewy, but tasty. I ADORED the curry sauce, perfect spice for biryani.Dessert: I was too full to eat mine lol. I got Beets and Chocolate cake and coulis, which is waiting in my fridge for a weekend snack time. I did eat the beet sherbet and it was great (I really like earthy stuff with chocolate). He had the cheese plate and was happily surprised by everything on it. He kept eating a savory Creme Brule and telling me and the server he didn't know if he liked it but couldn't stop eating it. I suspect we will be trying to make it at home soon.Lots of interesting experimental intermezzos too. They gave us a semi-freddo that honestly might be the best dessert I ever had (I don't do over-sweet much, and this was perfect sweetness) ....so I don't feel so bad I didn't have room for my "real" dessert. And a cute little anniversary treat at the end with raspberry mini pastries and our names written with ganache on the plate.Atmosphere was intimate, with a lot of Arts and Crafts detail. We were in main dining area, but they also have a room with a fireplace and a view of the pond that we may try some time when it isn't winter and dark out. Yes, we would go back. Amazing.

Fantastic! Simple beautiful flavors, delightful service and cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you're a little removed from bustling Chicago. North Pond isn't cheap but it is a relative good buy for the money. Top notch experience here, highly recommended.

Dinner at North Pond is a lovely experience! The staff were so friendly and the restaurant itself is quite cozy. All of the courses were delicious and balanced in their seasoning. There are a few additional small bites / courses throughout the tasting menu that are a nice touch as well. I did the vegetarian menu and was pleasantly surprised at the options and amount of food.

I've came here for their Sunday prix fixe brunch a couple of times and it's so wonderful! I love that there is a Michelin starred restaurant that has a brunch in Chicago! I've really enjoyed each dish i've had there and would love to try out their dinner as well! The service is absolutely wonderful, all of the staff is so kind and makes sure you have a great experience! The location is so cute and it's perfect to go on a nice stroll before or after your meal when the weather is nice out!

North Pond is situated inside a former ice-skaters' warming house nestled into the foot of a gentle hill facing its namesake body of water on the north edge of Lincoln Park. Just being inside the cozy, embracing arts-and-crafts space is magical. It's surely among Chicago's most wonderful waterside settings. Our (nearly perfect) experience, surrounded by beautiful design and words of wisdom (not to mention the fabulous view from the terrace) was calming. The team's gracious hospitality is matched by delicious, fresh, creative dishes. Our anniversary was enhanced with personal touches that made us feel very special. We hadn't been there's since before the time of pestilence, and are delighted to be back!
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I dined at the North Pond last night.
The restaurant was featuring a $150 per person six course Valentine's weekend special. The dishes ranged from poorly thought out and incipid to passable but far from remarkable. Perhaps more unfortunate than the food was the service. My wife and I had this eerie sense throughout the evening that someone from the staff was eavesdropping on our conversations. This suspicion was all but confirmed when the maitre d came up to our table about midway through the dinner and stated something to the effect of "sorry, I would have come up earlier to check in but didn't want to interrupt your conversation about your child.' Creepy!
Be the first to ReplyOf course the location and atmosphere are top notch.
We've been for both brunch and dinner, and I will say I enjoyed the brunch more. All three courses were complex, unique, and delicious. The strip loin and squash, in particular, was scrumptious. I'll add that the Cherry Washington is one of the best cocktails I've had in Chicago. Would definitely recommend for a Sunday morning.

We came here for the New Year's Eve prix fixe menu, and had a good time. It was my first Michelin star experience. Service was great. We got there early, but that wasn't a problem at all. The hostess immediately took our coats and had us sit at the bar and order drinks while we waited for our table to be prepared. I started with the Respect Your Elderflower, which was tasty. And only $16, which is less than I expected. Once seated, we were immediately given waters and our server was friendly and welcoming. The food was pretty good. I didn't think that at such small portions I'd be full at the end of the meal, but I was stuffed by the final course. Everything was nicely presented and came out at a good pace. The prawns and busan crab salad, agnolotti, and the squab were my favorite courses. I wasn't a huge fan of the Hungarian dumpling, but the yuzu marmalade it was on was delicious. The walnut ice cream was good, though the cheese that came with was a bit too rich for me. The dark chocolate and passion fruit was delicious and a nice way to end the night. During dinner, I also got the Dark Lady, which was excellent as well. The ambiance and decor was lovely; a nice, peaceful place to eat and drink, even on big nights like NYE. Not sure it was worth the $235 per person, but that's also not unexpected. Overall, a great experience.

We have been going to North Pond for New Year's Eve for several years. We missed last year because of Covid. However, this year they are back at as good as ever.
Be the first to ReplyNorth Pond is a Chicago staple.
We had the prix fixe menu and wine tasting.First the good- the service was perfect. I made the mistake of making my reservation for Sunday and coming in on a Saturday but they kindly seated us anyway. Our waiter was spot on- friendly and attentive. The design of the restaurant is traditional arts and crafts- a chicago design not celebrated enough by the city. The bad- the food was grossly over seasoned. Very salty and seasoning forward. For the price point the food really should have been better and I am likely not to return as a result of it. Without the great service, location, and design this would be a three star restaurant based on food only in my opinion.Final thoughts- the food use to be better here and maybe this was a bad night. I want to recommend and love North Pond but for the expense there are far better food offerings in the city. I am saddened I can't give a more positive review to a place that use to be great.
Be the first to ReplyMy family and I came here to celebrate my Dad's birthday on
My family and I came here to celebrate my Dad's birthday on Sunday, March 6th. I called to make brunch reservations at least a week in advance and they asked for his name so they can make custom menus! I loved that idea and they even gave them to him in a folder to take home! He also mentioned it's my brother's late birthday celebration and they made menus for him too while we were dining. Ambiance: Very farm-to-table but elegant. Also has cozy vibes with the blankets if need be. Service: The overall service was great! Our waters were always refilled, food came out quickly, and our utensils were replaced each course. I also enjoyed the explanation of our dishes before we ate them. And our waitress Charmian (i didn't hear her name but that's what's on the receipt) was absolutely wonderful! She was very sweet and checked on us often. She made sure my dad had enough coffee and made those extra menus for my brother. She also mentioned she recognized my parents' accents and it made her nostalgic of family. Food: Brunch was so good! They really made the 3 courses worth it and didn't skimp on portion or quality. The dishes I chose were: Octopus Toast, Steak and Egg, and Cookies and Cream for dessert. The octopus toast was unique and yummy although there were way too many beans. The steak and egg were just the right amount. I didn't get any au jus with my steak like the others did, but it worked out with dipping it in the purée. Flavors were on point. The dessert was rich and luxurious. I loved it so much! -- Other honorable mentions for the Crab Salad, Smoked Trout Croquettes, Quail Waffle, and Pork Belly. My parents, especially my mom, loved the music the restaurant was playing. Every song was on her playlist. Amazing experience, service, and food. I would love to come back! :)
Be the first to ReplyPretty good! 110 dollars per person.
Love it! Accept all people with different flavors.
Be the first to ReplyThe atmosphere was very nice.
The service was too aggressive. One person would ask to clear the plates, less than two minutes later another person tried to clear the plates. It was distracting. The food was good not great. Overall, it was disappointing meal.
Be the first to ReplyWent for brunch.
We ordered octopus and crab appetizers. Very disappointing appetizers with next to no octopus or crab. Very small entree of Dover sole as well, though it was cooked well.

Ummm...let me start by saying we had the most hoity-toity, pretentious, horrible server. We spent most of the night trying to figure out if she was this terrible with everyone else, or if it was just us!? (I'm still trying to figure out if she was just rude or Racist...or Both?) The 8-course meal started out wonderful through the first 3 courses, but then we had to leave early, and they agreed to pack up the remaining courses and send them home with us. Once we got back we noticed we'd gone home with 2 courses (somewhere we lost 3 courses in the shuffle). Between those 2 carry out courses, dessert was OK, but the meat dishes (wild boar and duck) were horrible; borderline inedible. For the price tag and expectations, we won't return.

Be the first to ReplyOne of the most delightful and bang for your buck
One of the most delightful and bang for your buck experiences in Chicago. At just over 100 dollars, North Pond is one of the lowest priced Michelin meals you can have in Chicago with a fantastic wine pairing to boot.Atmosphere: it's in a cabin like structure inside of the north pond sanctuary. It has a very cozy vibe where you can also see and hear other diners in the restaurant. For the price point and it's reputation, it's one of the least stuffy restaurants in the city.Service: it's what you would expect in terms of services. They were very helpful in making sure our experience was great without being over bearingFood: awesome dishes that make you feel like you're paying just the perfect amount for the food. The wine pairing was excellent as well for a great price. Overall, would return and excellent value

Usually, tasting menus leave you more stuffed than you would even want to be. However, North Pond's left us so hungry we wound up having to get more food on the way home. Additionally, they serve foie gras without checking with guests first. Foie gras can't be made without torturing the animal. It shouldn't be assumed that everyone who eats meat is comfortable with animal cruelty.

The restaurant cancelled our reservation on the day of our visit there, which was our wedding anniversary. Our reservation was confirmed two days earlier as requested. They even asked then for our first names, to be put on the Happy Anniversary plate. And then they just cancelled it on the day of our reservation. Why? What happened?!What a way to treat clients, especially for a Michelin star restaurant. No compensation, no attempt to do something about it. What a shame!
Be the first to ReplyWe celebrated my mom's 86th birthday and had made
We celebrated my mom's 86th birthday and had made reservations for 12 people and knew we would not be seated in the same table as the restaurant had a table set up that seated 4 to a table. Prior to the brunch I communicated with the manager and reassured him that our party would not be congregating (which was what he feared in light of covid). I didn't expect that our parties of 4 would be seated so far apart (one party in a whole different section) that there was no sense of celebration. It was terribly disappointing. Whatever rules you may have, you should be more considerate and accommodating. What is the harm of putting parties closer by? You ruined our brunch and mood. These customers are not happy including an 86 year old mother/grandmother. We won't be coming back and everyone we repeated this to thought your decision was unacceptable. There is no excuse for this terrible call.

Special birthday event! I have heard of this place for years but finally it seemed right to try (the best combination of price/craft compared to the other high end restaurants that were open). They got the heads up on my birthday and personalized the menu and dessert, the tasting menu and wine pairing were marvelous, we left filled and thrilled. The history and location of the building were beautiful and the service was second to none. High ratings all around, one of the best meals I have had in Chicago in my 20 years here.
