One of the best dishes of my life to date & a perfect anniversary meal
Had a wonderful anniversary meal one evening at North Pond. The walk to the restaurant through Lincoln Park was already setting the relaxed mood, and on arrival, service was authentically friendly and you could tell they really wanted you to enjoy their place. Extra attention to detail, like menu’s printed with our anniversary and names on, were extra special, and service was appropriately attentive all night. We were given a perfect table, by the window and fire which was warm, not too hot, and overlooking the North Pond, watching dog walkers pass by, it was lovely to watch the sunset change the city backdrop to twinkling lights from the comfort of our perfect table. Cocktails were master crafted by the friendly bar man, full of flavour, beautifully presented and strong. Freshly baked bread rolls had a delicate herb flavour, with a deep red, beetroot butter quenelle. We went for the 4-course tasting with a wine pairing too, with our server Gerald being extremely knowledgeable of the cuisine and the wine. Being in the restaurant trade, we asked lots of questions, which puts some servers on edge, but Gerald relished in sharing his equalled passion and extensive career in food and drink. I really like the fact that you’re allowed to pick your 4 courses from 3 different items per course, it shows real skill to juggle all this in the kitchen and is a real treat for the diner. My hat goes fully off to the chef’s ability to send dishes out as quickly and beautifully as if a set fixed tasting menu, but with an a la carte diners’ choice, that’s real skill at this standard of cuisine. The amuse bouche was a delicious caviar on a fried base with dried skin on the side which was beautifully light and puffed. I had Foie Gras Tangerine for first course, and this probably goes up there as one of the most memorable dishes of my life, it was perfectly crafted with a huge tangerine skin, halved, and then torched inside, gave a real added caramelised orange flavour to the dish, and it was just beautiful to look at and eat (see attached picture). At this point I was in heaven, they could have done nothing wrong (and they didn’t !). Rabbit for second course was some of the most delicate, soft meat I’ve ever eaten. Little remanence of game flavour, this was a delicious dish with the dill and salsa brava really lifting it up. Main was an even softer pinker Wagyu beef morsel with a delicious fried beignet on the side, again complimenting the meat. The coffee crumble was a flavour I didn’t know I needed so badly with meat and alongside the apple butter was a rich delicious dish of perfectly balanced fats and acids with a delicate sweetness and all the coffee and beef Unami-ness. Overall it was THE best meal we had in our 3 week USA holiday, it was just perfect thank you. If we’re ever in Chicago again we’ll be back.

Simply my favorite restaurant in Chicago. The food is whimsical and delicious. The "house" is always interesting and just right. Best food best vibe! Such a beautiful space.
Be the first to ReplyThey deserve their Michelin star again
We had an amazing family meal here. The tasting menu was executed perfectly by their staff--highlights were the kampachi appetizer, the bread with squash butter, the Tasmanian trout entree, and the astounding dessert options, especially their banana/ginger choice or the cheese board. The only "miss" was the. truffle tart, which was a little muddy in its execution and taste. The atmosphere and service were also very very nice. We had a wonderful time, and this was the best fine dining experience we had in Chicago--highly recommend a visit.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food and atmosphere!
I loved this place! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. The food is amazing! We added the optional lobster course, and I would highly recommend doing this. The entire experience was A-plus and made for some wonderful memories. If you have a chance, go experience North Pond!

Welcoming environment. Staff was accommodating and responsive to feedback. Booking process was smooth. Personalized menu and treats to honor my birthday. Each course was beautifully presented and included items from their roof top garden, which you can tour. We purchased and enjoyed the wine pairings. Beautiful scenic location inside Lincoln Park with city views and accessible by bus.
Be the first to ReplyUnique location for a special celebration
The restaurant is located in a beautiful Arts & Crafts building sited on the edge of Lincoln Park’s North Pond. The 4 course chef’s menu was a delight and every bite a taste treat. Great place for a special celebration.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice experience in a great décor
Great location and décor. Excellent brunch. Good service. The art deco look puts out of time. The brunch is priced reasonably and the quality of food is very good. The quantity is enough for a lunch.

We had an extremely enjoyable experience at North Pond. The food and wine pairings were flavorful and exquisite. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The timing between courses was spot on. A great evening celebrating food, wine, life, and family.

North Pond is an exquisite experience. The food, ambiance and service are fabulous. I highly recommend the venison and rabbit. Simply amazing!
Be the first to ReplyA lovely anniversary surprise with great food and top service...
My husband surprised me with a wedding anniversary dinner to North Pond. We arrived slightly early but were seated immediately. They had printed prix fix menus with an additional line wishing us a happy anniversary by name, which was just wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable and fun, and greeted us by name also, wishing us a happy anniversary as we were seated. We chose to have wines paired for us, which was a perfect choice (except the dessert wine was too sweet for me but my husband enjoyed it). Our server had facts about every wine that we joked could have been made up but sounded good (she had a great sense of humor). First course: Mushroom Ceviche for husband, Carrot Mussels for me. My second favorite of the whole night. Wonderful acid, wonderful everything. We tasted each others starter but kept coming back to our own. Second course: Octopus and Sweet Potato for me, Rabbit Pierogi for husband. My #1 favorite of the night. It is rare to find octopus that a) has flavorful accompaniments and b) is not overcooked. I would eat that every day. I also really enjoyed tasting my husband's rabbit which I loved (pierogi was OK). He loved it all. Main course: I had halibut biryani and he had Waygu Carrot. He loved every bit of it. I loved everything but the halibut, which was a bit salty and chewy, but tasty. I ADORED the curry sauce, perfect spice for biryani. Dessert: I was too full to eat mine lol. I got Beets and Chocolate cake and coulis, which is waiting in my fridge for a weekend snack time. I did eat the beet sherbet and it was great (I really like earthy stuff with chocolate). He had the cheese plate and was happily surprised by everything on it. He kept eating a savory Creme Brule and telling me and the server he didn't know if he liked it but couldn't stop eating it. I suspect we will be trying to make it at home soon. Lots of interesting experimental intermezzos too. They gave us a semi-freddo that honestly might be the best dessert I ever had (I don't do over-sweet much, and this was perfect sweetness) ....so I don't feel so bad I didn't have room for my "real" dessert. And a cute little anniversary treat at the end with raspberry mini pastries and our names written with ganache on the plate. Atmosphere was intimate, with a lot of Arts and Crafts detail. We were in main dining area, but they also have a room with a fireplace and a view of the pond that we may try some time when it isn't winter and dark out. Yes, we would go back. Amazing.

Excellent and beautiful food from the tasting menu. We enjoyed the wine pairing as well. I started with the pear and onion soup, and completed my meal with the cheese plate.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday dinner
We've had numerous celebration dinners at North Pond over the years and enjoyed them. Sunday night was another. The menu is now a $110 4-course prix fixe with optional wine pairings. There are 3 or 4 choices for each course. The menu changes frequently. Our waitress said the dishes change in small ways even daily as the chef incorporates different fresh ingredients that he's found in the market. All the dishes are elaborate with tiny fruits and vegetables, swirls of sauces, air-dried chips of this and that or ingredients pressed using a vacuum system, and other fillips. Each plate looks exquisite as it's brought to the table and, most importantly, tastes good. Even the after-dinner espresso was excellent. You also get an amuse bouche, a tiny intermezzo after the main course and some small sweets on a plate when the bill comes. Those are the hallmarks of a restaurant with, or aspiring to, a Michelin star. Service was cordial and professional. We were greeted warmly on arrival and thanked afterwards. The room is cozy and the views through the French doors to the pond and the high-rises beyond are beautiful, especially once darkness obscures some restoration work on the pond that will last a couple more months. The noise level is conversation-friendly. Tables are widely spaced apart and there are also a handful of outside tables under red umbrellas for al fresco dining in fine weather. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food, great service, possibly overpriced
This was our first Michelin-starred restaurant experience, so take what I say with a grain of sea salt. We really enjoyed the service and the food, but frankly, at that price, it should be the best experience we had ever had. It was not. Plus the North Pond itself (the pond) was empty, and was kind of depressing to look at as we walked to the restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGreat brunch
What a wonderful surprise! It was delightful, perfectly paired flavors and textured in every dish. Definitely one of the best in Chicago. We did the brunch and ai found the $49 per person price to be very reasonable, particularly because of the high quality. Will come back.
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant cancelled our reservation on the day it was supposed to take place - terrible way to treat clients!
The restaurant cancelled our reservation on the day of our visit there, which was our wedding anniversary. What a way to treat clients, especially for a Michelin star restaurant. No compensation, no attempt to do something about it. What a shame!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Dinner
We (my wife and I, along with our 28 year old niece) visited North Pond on a Friday evening in late August. A heat wave (90+ degrees and high humidity) was still stifiling Chicago, but we opted for their patio anyway.
Ambience: North Pond is located at the north end of North Pond, a small restored pond just north of Lincoln Park Zoo. As such, there is a great skyline view of downtown Chicago, framed by the pond itself and surrounding greenery. The patio seating (seven tables set in front of the floor to ceiling doors of the building) offer the best views. We had a 5:30pm reservation, which was opening time, so we truly had our pick of the outside tables (they are first come, first served). Patio tables are sturdy metal mesh with an umbrella; seats are metal with fabric or rubber seat and back support. We live a short walk from North Pond, and often walk past the restaurant on our way to the Lakefront Trail, so we knew full well there would be a good bit of pedestrian traffic pretty much all night.
Food: We began with a cocktail, each of us happened to order a different one. All were well received. The four course tasting menu has three choices per course. We also opted for the wine pairing, one glass per course. The meal began with a small potato roll with butter, followed by an amuse bouche of trout roe and shaved vegetables. Both excellent. All three of us selected the carrot and mussels for our first course - I'd only had steamed mussels in the shell but this was more of a salad. The mussels were pre-shelled and chilled. Very refreshing. For the second course I had the foie gras while wife and niece went with sea scallop and corn. The foie gras was fine, but the scallop was very good (wife was kind enough to give me a bite); very buttery and cooked perfectly. We all selected dry aged beef strip loin for our main course, and no one was disappointed. Our server cautioned that the beef wouldn't be as tender as filet mignon; I've favored strip steak for years since it has a much "beefier" taste, so was well aware of the potential trade-off of flavor vs. tenderness. I've also had strip steak often enough to know a good restaurant will come pretty close to a filet's tenderness. North Pond completely nailed it - we all agreed it was the best dish of the night by far (the pistachio puree provided a flavor boost as well). A square of cornbread from the pastry chef preceeded the dessert; I went with a cheese plate, while wife and niece both selected the chocolate and passion fruit marzipan. Not sure what made me go with the cheese plate...it was fine and I enjoyed it, but the ladies won the round once again. Lastly, we were presented with a plate of confections, as we were celebrating a birthday.
Service: The service was outstanding. The meal was very well paced from start to finish; we never felt rushed or felt we were forgotten. We asked for coasters or for a cocktail napkin for our water glasses, as a lot of condensation was forming on them. Instead, they brought out a cloth dinner napkin for each of us to serve as a placemat. The servers provided a brief explanation of each dish and of each wine, and happily answered any questions we had.
Fantastic meal for special occasions
This small restaurant located in a former warming shed for ice skaters on the North Pond in Lincoln Park. The staff was exceptional. It is a prix fixe menu $98/person with an optional wine pairing for $54/person. You get four courses and each course has three choices. You also get several bites from the chef or pastry chef to further enhance your dining experience. This is a fantastic destination for a special occasion in a charming setting. Everyone makes you feel welcome and special.

It took me sometime to select a restaurant for this little family reunion. We came together from 4 different cities to have a great meal together. North Pond did not disappoint. Among us, there is one vegetarian, one pescatarian, 2 allergic to seafood....And they managed to make everyone happy. Everyone did the wine paring except me and they were impressed with the selections and my non-alcoholic drink was delicious as well. The portions were just right, which is hard to do with tasting menu. I can't wait to visit again!

We were in town for only a few days and wanted to do a special anniversary dinner, this place was perfect. 4 amazing courses with 4 amazing wine pairings followed by few sweet bites with personalized anniversary message. All the staff was beyond professional, attentive and personable!
Be the first to ReplyBest meal of my life
I went here for my birthday with a friend and was more impressed than I have ever been at a restaurant. It was such a complete experience, everything from the start walking through the door and being greeted so politely, to the amazing food, to the terrific service from out waiter and the rest of the staff. This was hands down the best restaurant I have ever been to.
Be the first to ReplyTake Out -- At a New Level
Based on their French-adapted Thanksgiving dinner to go, North Pond joins with great success the Chicago restaurants that for survival are offering fully prepared, high quality dinners that are re-writing the concept of take-out.
At $90 per person -- that is, for the two of us safely keeping physical distance instead of the usual family gathering -- we feasted on five courses, spread across the afternoon and evening for our enjoyment and comfort's sake -- gougeres with truffle cream, foie gras mousse with trimmings, escargots; roast duck with sides of creamed leeks, mushroom and pear stuffing and potatoes dauphinoise, and dessert of chocolate pot au creme.
Packaged for ease of prep and service at home, directions the essence of simplicity -- a most enjoyable offering.
Similar menus are said to be coming -- attention should be paid.
Cozy and elegant
What a hidden gem in Lincoln Park. If you have a special celebration, the staff will make sure you enjoy it. The food and service were excellent.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful anniversary dinner
This was our first fine dining dinner out in months, so we wanted it to be special. North Pond certainly delivered. We were greeted warmly (temperatures taken and we had to jot down our contact info for contract tracing purposes). The menu now is a 4 course tasting menu for $85, no a la carte options, but there are a couple choices for each course to choose from. Each dish is complex with numerous ingredients. Seasonal fruits and vegetables, carved into small pieces, dress up each plate. In addition to the 4 listed courses, we were presented with a slice of bread and butter, an amuse bouche, a tiny dish of sorbet before dessert and a couple of house made candies at the end.
Service was cordial and chef Cesar Murillo, who took over from founding chef Bruce Sherman, made several appearances at our table bringing and describing dishes plus taking a couple minutes to chat near the end of our meal.
Although there is no outdoor dining space and the big French doors remained closed, the tables were widely spaced apart. The view over North Pond at dusk is lovely. I noticed most of the guests stopping for selfies before entering.
Nice Sunday Brunch
I enjoyed the relaxed Sunday Brunch menu and vibe. Service was very good. Food was nice but perhaps not amazingly memorable.
