Speaking as a vegetarian, I found the offerings here far
Speaking as a vegetarian, I found the offerings here far more varied and tasty than at other modern small-plate Japanese spots in the city. I didn't even get the chance to sample the majority of the vegetarian small plates!Of the ones I did try, my favorite was absolutely the deep fried eggplant starter. I've had my fair share of flavorless eggplant slices, but the ones here were perfectly marinated with miso. I also enjoyed the tofu that came under a generous blanket of nori paste, and the kinoko plate of varied mushrooms. The veggie don was good - curious about the decision to add guacamole though - but next time I might just make a full meal out of the small plates since there was so much more to try.

We came in a Saturday and the place was packed, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation in advance if you are interested in the limited cuts for yakitori. The servers were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. We tried a variety of chicken yakitori, kara age and the cod roe cream udon. Everything was very tasty but the cream udon was the standout dish. It was so good that we had to order another one. Will definitely be coming back for this again!
Be the first to ReplyOn a Friday night, the restaurant was really busy.
Despite not having a reservation, we were seated very quickly and greeted by everyone. The interior design was really warm and modern where my boyfriend and I sat down at a large dining table with 2 other people across from us. (Don't worry, it was a big table!) What we ordered:Short Rib Yakitori - $6 (3/5): The short rib comes with 4 meat slices with 2 onions in between. The first bite was a delight where the meat marinated with the sauce was almost a perfect bite. However, the more you eat it, you notice the meat was not as tender and a little under seasoned.Knee Cartilage Yakitori - $4 (3.5/5): Cartilages are my favorites, so I was very pleased to see this on their menu. Their cartilage were what I wanted in texture: crunchy but tender at the same time. What disappointed me was the seasoning, it was very light. Napa Kara Pork -$5 (3/5): This was apparently the hype from a lot of the reviews I read. Again, the pork was really tender, not gamey but again under seasoned. Presentation was really nice tho.Hamachi -$13 (3/5): This dish comes with 6 slices of the fish with bits of oranges on it. I would recommend having a decent amount of sauce on your fish with some oranges in your bite. If you have a good amount of sauce with the orange, you can imagine how good it'll be if there was more flavor.Dragon Ball -$16 (2/5): This dish comes in multiples slices of beef with 3 quail eggs. This would have to be the disappointing dish. Similar to the Hamachi, not enough flavor. I had to drench the beef with the sauce and if I eat it with scallions, there's not much flavor. I wish they have drizzle the sauce on the dish rather than plate it separately. The quail eggs were bland and honestly, for the price worth, I don't recommend this. (You can probably make this dish better at home with cheaper ingredients and more quantity).Cod Udon -$13 (4/5): This creamy delicious rich dish surprised me. The texture of the udon was bouncy and soft, coated with a good amount of richness of the cream. The texture of the vegetables was a nice mixture with the udon, though perhaps it's better to use blanch the cabbage.Tori Tantan - $17 (3/5): In my opinion, for just ramen with no meat or egg, not worth it for $17. The broth is very creamy and rich, similar to sesame peanut butter noodles (if you're familiar with the dish) but it was a bit salty. I would say if you do want to order this dish, have another dish to balance the richness and saltiness out.Basil - $13 (4/5): This cocktail is exactly like the name. It's a cocktail with basil and strawberries. The drink is very strong on the basil and it balances out with a bit of sweetness from the strawberries. Pretty refreshing.Overall, Nonono is a very nice restaurant with a nice ambience and great services. Would I come here again? Probably not but it was definitely worth to try a new restaurant.

Very cute double floored Japanese restaurant off to the side of ktown! We ordered:Yaki corn ($8)Salmon tataki ($13)Soba meshi ($13)Cod roe cream udon ($13)The salmon tataki was my fav dish of the night! The yuzu and soy sauce just worked so well together with the salmon. Super refreshing but I wished it had a little more avocado like the menu pic. 10/10 !!!Yaki corn was pretty good but the price felt unjustified. Since it was like half a cob of corn with cheese for $8! Taste wise 8/10!The soba meshi was ... interesting. It was my first time having rice mixed with noodles. It tasted like yaki soba. Kinda mid, not my favorite 6/10Cod roe cream udon was really creamy and I love the udon texture! It doesn't taste fishy at all because the cod roe flavor is pretty subtle. I do think it's a little heavy after a few bites though 7/10Overall, I love that the menu has pictures and there's a lot of variety! They do offer more smaller dishes than entrees so it's great if you love to try a lot of things! The service was ok but nothing to write home about. Would still come back to try more!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect date spot! So cute and great vibes.
We got the meatball, short rib with onions, pork, scallop, lime cilantro, fried potato, hamachi, nonono kara age, yaki corn, nanchatte steak, Kani fried rice and cod roe cream udon. The food was fantastic. We were so stuffed! Everything was extremely tasty and full of flavor. For dessert, we got the rain drop pudding and the sesame panna cotta. It was all so light and lovely. I can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyNonono is a YES YES YES.
We stumbled upon this restaurant on 30th & Madison when we were looking for a lunch place and it was fantastic. Very cool space in the heart of the home furnishings district but EVEN better grub. We each had some yummy soup and could not have been more satisfied.

Great place for yakitori; the other izakaya are great as well... The sauce for the yakitori items are excellent; sweet and savory, don't skip out on the egg and bacon yakitori - breakfast on a stick! We got the heart, tongue, liver, short rib, pork, and pork belly yakitori; all were deliciousSalmon bruschetta maki had great flavor, but no texture; everything about it was super creamy and mushy - I thought the ingredients worked well togetherKani fried rice was pretty bland; I recommend adding some soy sauceKuro goma was an excellent end to the meal for desertService is very attentive and friendly; we showed up an hour early from our reservation time and they seated us - need all members of party to be thereAmbiance is very casual, seating is a bit tight Bill came to about $150 for two; we also got a couple of drinks with the food above
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious.
Came here with 3 friends and it felt like we ordered 60% of the menu. Every time we picked up the menu, we discovered another dish we wanted to add to our order. The dining experience was pleasant as well - the waitress seated us on the upper level in the back so we had a nice secluded area all to ourselves. What we ordered: - uni scallop carpaccio (9/10): scallops were super soft and they were generous with the uni, but the scallops weren't as fresh/sweet as I would've liked - salmon tataki (10/10): very tender salmon, very flavorful - chawan mushi (8/10): can't go wrong with steamed egg, but I could probably make this at home and have it turn out somewhat similar. My friends were pretty impressed with it though (they've never had steamed egg before) - hamachi (?/10): didn't get to try it

Make sure you book a reservation! Food was great, got there at 4:50 with a reservation, got seated and the place was full in ten minutes.Fast service, love the atmosphere (nice interior).Good was good as well, well worth the money! My favorites were the sausage skewers, chicken thighs, chicken cartilage, and the shishito peppers. Would come back again!

5 stars. Nothing was bad, but nothing was outstanding either. Overall just kinda fell short of expectations. The best dish was probably the Chawanmushi, which I actually enjoyed more than TOWA's. The Dragon Ball sounded really delicious but was rather bland. The short rib skewer and grilled corn were decent. I definitely expected more from the eggplant (Nasu Dengaku) and mushroom (Kinoko) dishes as they usually turn out to be very good, but these were just okay. The Salmon Bruschetta Roll looked very interesting on the menu, but turned out to be more or less a glorified "Philidelphia Roll." I appreciated that the panna cotta (Kuro Goma) was black sesame flavored.Service was quick and attentive, and food came out pretty fast.

Great food that comes quickly. Always hits the spot!

We couldn't get a reservation online but I'm so glad I called because they were able to fit us in.I don't remember all that we had but everything was super tasty to include the adult bevvies! It would be perfect for date night or a night out with friends. Love the vibe and the food!
Be the first to ReplyEnt in on a Sunday, early with mi reservations.
Great yakatori, kids loved the short rib wih onion. Sat up stairs, very nice setting. Food was reasonable, but fake drinks were a tad overpriced. I had a play on an old fashioned which was decent.
Be the first to Replyso perfect! i had the best birthday dinner here.
they were so accommodating with my large party and didn't even charge a cake cutting fee. food and drinks were amazing, especially the salmon tataki, hamachi, and sakura cocktail. thank you for a great birthday nonono ^_^

[+]- very delicious fried chicken- cocktails are strong and delicious - good mix of spirit/taste- mushroom yakitori is delicious- beef tongue was very tender, highly recommended- sushito peppers were very delicious, great sauce[-] - a few parts of the chicken yakitori weren't available - shame!- menus are pretty old and ripped apart- slightly dirty upstairs with all the venting- fried chicken took quite a while to come out; came out 10 minutes after the meal was completeOverall, well worth it for the yakitori. Service was quick and the fried chicken was a perfect ending.
Be the first to ReplyYakitori was really flavorful.
Ramen left a little more to be desired but would definitely go next time only for Yakitori! Overall, a very satisfying meal
Be the first to Replycame here with my friends who had a reservation 8pm.
it sucked because we had to wait for the table in front of us to clear out before we can sit so we didn't really get seated til 830pm and the kitchen closed less than an hour later so we were rushed in ordering which also sucked. the food itself, i don't see myself coming back to pay that much $$ for the little quantity that they give. i really enjoyed the eggplants and the drinks but besides that, i think this place is overrated and don't see myself coming back.
Be the first to ReplyNONONO? More like.
.. Actually that's it. Nonono is a Japanese Yakitori restaurant that focuses on skewers (the Yaki) and in particular for chicken (the Tori). They also offer other general Japanese food such as sushi and ramen. Unfortunately, the prices just do not justify the mediocre quality of the food, neither for the yakitori nor for the general offerings. The FoodTanTan RamenTanTan is a type of noodle mixed with ground meat and in a spicy type of sauce. Nonono adapts this into ramen by adding a creamy broth. Strangely, however, it's barely spicy, missing the point of the dish. I asked for additional hotsauce to fix the dish, and costed $2.Beef SkewerThe beef skewer is priced only at $4.5 but the reason for this is that you get four incredibly thin pieces of beef. Perhaps I was simply unlucky? Steak I knew going in that this was not going to be a real steak, and that the star of the dish was the sweet onion sauce, which was definitely delicious. I don't think that excuses providing very dry and well done beef though.
Be the first to ReplyTheir food is great.
My favorites are beef tongue skewer, scallops &uni carpaccio, and nasu dengaku(eggplant dish) but all the food we ordered were very good. Attentive & friendly staffs and surprisingly kids friendly! Definitely coming back soon.

Compliments- adorable Japan inspired interior- attentive service - delicious tapas, there isn't anything we didn't enjoy - not sure what they're doing different with their yakitori but it is it Favorites- ponzu hamachi topped w fried garlic. So flavorful. So fresh. So delicious- rose (pink gin). Soft hint of rose infused gin. So good I had 3 and can't stop thinking about it $14ea- karage chicken. Crispy, tender, moistNotes- happy hour options (2): beer/. Wish there were more options to choose from- tapa size, order more! - make a reservation or counter area may be avail. We sat in front of the yakitori grill (covid friendly) Cost for 26 drinks, 5 plates, 2 yakitori - $160
Be the first to ReplyCame here for the oden and raindrop cake.
The raindrop cake was really good and refreshing. The oden was ok, it was a large portion but the egg that came with it was just a plain, bland, hard boiled egg. Also wish they included a side of mustard. I also ordered a few pieces of yakitori, chicken heart and beef tongue. Chicken heart was good, tasted about the same as any chicken heart yakitori. Beef tongue was disappointing though. It was the most expensive out of all the skewers but it was nothing but a small, skewer of meat, didn't even have much color and was only seasoned with salt and pepper.Service wise, it was a good experience, the servers were nice and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyCame with a party of 5 and got a bunch of dishes to share.
Highly recommend the below:Nori Tofu- you might think why would I pay for a block of tofu but it is surprisingly very good! Refreshing yet creamy and the nori seaweed paste (looks off putting at first) but trust me it seals the deal Cod Roe Cream Udon- comfort food on a cold dayNonono RollWe tried a variety of the cocktails and Rose was my favorite- fruity yet still strong Overall a pleasant dining experience, would come back to try the yakitori next time.
Be the first to ReplyClean and delicate food and environment.
Cocktails are good and in great shapes. Tofu would be my favorite. Dessert is also good.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is always packed.
I recommend making a reservation online before going. Even with the reservation, we had to wait a bit. The 2 must get items imo is the Nori Tofu and Meatball skewer. The Nori Tofu was super refreshing and everything balance each other out. The meatball was juicy in the middle and to die for! All the other skewers were good too!
