Absolutely shocking, do not go here…
I booked this restaurant for NYE with my husband and two children. We had come from London and were recommended by friends to go there. When we arrived (after a 30 minute walk in torrential rain), we were taken to a table that was completely set apart from the rest of the restaurant, and with no atmosphere at all. When we asked for another table we were offered a row of 4 seats looking out at the street and scaffolding. We were then offered another table upstairs by the waitress which we accepted. Only to then be told by her manager that we were not to be allowed that table as they wanted to shut that area of the restaurant. When we pointed out two table of two downstairs, that could be put together for us, they sarcastically asked why they should ask other customers to move a bit, to accommodate that happening. On no level did this restaurant or its staff care in the slightest about this situation, and instead of trying to find a solution to suit everyone, they went out of their way to get us out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. They clearly wanted to shut for the night, and should not have accepted a booking for 21.45. I have never written a bad restaurant review, especially in recent times, because I know that hospitality is still struggling to make ends meet. But the attitude from the staff and the fact that they laughed at us when we left the restaurant, made me write the review. Plenty of places to go in New York for a great meal and great service. In our experience this is NOT one of them…..
Be the first to ReplyBest Sushi I’ve ever had!
Oh my goodness. Best Sushi I have EVER had. The salmon was beautiful and the yellowtail with ponzu salsa was not enough!! I could’ve eaten three times more! The yakitori skewers tasted properly barbecued and we’re cooked to perfection. This was a food highlight of our NYC trip and I would’ve easily gone back. Really chilled atmosphere and close to loads of good attractions.

We tried a lot of new flavours we've never had before including Chawanmushi (savoury egg custard), raindrop cake and black seasame panna cotta. The service was extremely fast so do bare this in mind if you are going for a romantic dinner because it felt just a little rushed but it didn't ruined our evening. There is no wifi but the staff are very helpful, especially when we were lost getting our next destination. All in all a great restaurant.

Food was mediocre, and I was looking forward to the Paitan Ramen. Food came out in ad hoc order before beverages. Everyone else had finished before 4th person received their dish.
Super loud socially unaware diners with poor acoustics make the place intolerable.
Substandard service - lousy environment, mediocre food, poor service and execution.

Yakitori heaven
Last Sunday I finally ate lunch at Yakitori Nonono. All I wanted were assorted yakitori. I particularly liked the beef short rib with onions and the shisito peppers. However, the chicken wing was bony. I ate these with a bowl of white rice which was ample. Most customers had ramen with a plate it two of yakitori. Service was fine. I plan to return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Japanese Cuisine!
Came here on a Sunday for brunch. We were seated by the kitchen where we got to see all of the action go down which was pretty cool. There's two floors to this restaurant, where I didn't know there was a second floor until I went looking for the bathroom. The bathroom itself was quite something.
My gf and I shared two box sets that we ordered. I got the A1 Ramen Noodle Set which consisted of Tori Tantan Ramen, Chawanmushi, and Chirashi Don. My gf got the B1 Rice Bowl Set which consisted of Yakitori Don, Soup, Chawanmushi, and Sashimi Salad. The ramen itself was a little bit on the spicy side, but still pretty tasty. The Yakitori Don consisted of a rice box with four different kababs consisting of grilled shishito, chicken meatball, chicken thigh, and chicken breast & scallions. They tasted great. The Chawanmushi is very underrated in my opinion, which is steamed eggs and contains a steamed shrimp and a fishcake. The overall experience was phenomenal.
For about $25 per box set, you get a variety of food items and a very filling meal. Pretty reasonable if you ask me. Will definitely be back again for more amazing food next time.
Amazing Japanese- modern take
Amazing Japanese- modern take on authentic Japanese. Very reasonably priced. Ramen served at dinner too. Really impressed. It’s a great casual dinning spot for amazing food.
Be the first to ReplyCreamy Curry Udon and chicken meatball skewers are a must
I've been wanting to try nonono for a while now but every time I check their available reservations, there is never a reasonable dinner time. Until one Sunday, it was 5:45, and my fiancé and I were starting to get hungry. So I checked the times (still nothing reasonable), but there is a Yelp waitlist option, which indicates we'll be seated around 7, so we did that. It was pretty accurate, because we got there half an hour early, but they said we'd recieve a text once our table was ready, and we got that text at 7:05. I was a little puzzled about the wait times because the second floor was pretty much empty. Maybe the restaurant plays this game to build up hype, which is annoying, but the food was so good that I'd deal with the wait again.
We started off with some skewers. (Be careful with these because these can add up right quick). I must say, it was better than some of the skewers I've had in Japan. Here are all the skewers we shared:
Chicken skin - perfectly crispy, but not my fave
Chicken neck - not memorable
Chicken liver - a little dry but good overall
Chicken thigh - juicy and flavorful
Chicken meatball - this was our favorite of the night. It was perfectly cooked and the texture was just right
We also ordered a few other things:
Oyako Salmon (roll with salmon roe, salmon, spicy salmon, avocado, and jalapeño) - probably not one of their most popular items but still a pretty good roll.
Creamy Curry Udon (spicy beef curry udon topped with potato whipped cream and aonori) - aside from the chicken meatball, this was another fave of the night. The creaminess of the sauce perfectly balanced out the spicyness from the curry.
Kani Fried Rice (fried rice with snow crab, egg, and scallion) - this one was underwhelming. I didn't really taste the snowcrab and overall, it was bland. We ended up using the sauce from the udon, which instantly made it 100x better.
Can't wait to come back to try some other skewers. Hopefully they'll stop playing with the wait times.
"Chawan Mushi" was SO GOOD!
Everything we had at Nonono was really tasty but very small portions as they are "tapas" and meant to share. A weird thing about this restaurant is that the menu includes big pictures of each dish & only three a page so you have to remember what you wanted from page 2 when you are still flipping through the long menu. Everything comes out whenever it is ready.
My favorite dish was the "Chawan Mushi" which is a Japanese steamed egg custard with shrimp, of course I added the crab, salmon roe, and sea urchin!
It was SO GOOD!
Great Japanese’s experience in affordable budget
A modern Japanese place with large selection of Yakitori and Ramen dishes.
Everything we ordered tasted delicious.
Prices are reasonable for the quality and service and ambiance.
