Nobu Washington D.C. Reviews
Went to Nobu for the first time for an anniversary dinner.
We were a little early for our reservation, but were seated right away. The host was very friendly as were the servers. We started with drinks. I got the DC Cooler which was great! My husband got a mocktail and said it was a bit too sweet, but overall good. Our server recommended the cold and hot dishes over the sushi, so we tried a little of each. We started with the king salmon with sweet onion as well as the tuna taco and king crab taco. Everything was a 10 out of 10! We then got an order of wagyu dumplings. These were hands down my favorite dish of the night. I would have ordered another round if I wasn't interested in also trying the sushi. My husband had some nigiri and a yellowtail roll. He said everything was delicious. We both had the toro roll which was incredible (the toro roll was his favorite dish of the night). At the end of the evening they provided us with mochi in honor of our anniversary celebration. I thoroughly enjoyed it! While we enjoyed the food, we did note that it took quite a while for all our food to make it to the table and it was hard to track down our waiter at times.
Bellied up to the bar at Nobu DC on a rainy evening.
Bartender was very pleasant and the service was exceptional. Happy hour sushi specials were very reasonable and good until 6:30 PM. Started with edamame. Then two rolls, followed by chicken teriyaki. All were delicious. Ambiance was chic.. a lot of fashionable business people at the bar. Highly recommend.

What Bey said? 10 10 10s across the board! One thing about me, I will not stand for Nobu slander Okay let's get into this review! I absolute love coming to Nobu for their Tanoshi Hour -- which is their version of happy hour. This particular day, I went for a quick solo dinner and got all of my favorites. The spicy edamame to start ALWAYS hits the spot. Next, I get the white fish tiradtio which you'll like if you like ceviche. It's flaky, citrusy, and super fresh. For my main, I got the Salmon with wasabi pepper sauce. It's the right amount of heat and flavor. The salmon is always cooked to perfection. Now for cocktails, you can never really go wrong with the Nobu quintessentials: Mango & Passion Martini or the Lychee and Elderflower Martini. Both have the right amount flavor to booze ratio.
We celebrated our daughter's birthday here.
Very competent staff recommended menu items that were excellent. The server explained each item as he served it and the food was excellent. Quiet atmosphere and very enjoyable meal.
It was everything I had hoped for after hearing about this
It was everything I had hoped for after hearing about this place for years, starting in LA. Of course, I tried all the dishes they invented and made famous, and was not disappointed. Service was exemplary, I really could not have asked for better.
Definitely going back
Excellent food, sushi melts in ur mouth. Creative cocktails and cozy couches. Cool ambiance.and great service. Shall be back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nobu for a solo dining experience. Being a popular restaurant, I was excited to see what all the buzz was about. From the moment I sat down, I knew exactly what I wanted to order. I started off with a delicious spinach salad with shrimp, followed by the spicy tuna tartare served with crispy rice cubes. The highlight of the meal was definitely the black cod miso, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. I decided to sit at the counter so I could watch the sushi chefs at work, and it was fascinating to see them prepare each dish with precision and skill. To accompany my meal, I ordered a refreshing pina martini and sipped on sparkling water in between courses. Overall, I had a great dining experience. The service was impeccable, and I never had to wait long to have my needs addressed. I can't wait to go back and try more items from their menu. If you're looking for a top-notch dining experience, I highly recommend giving Nobu a try.
This was my first Nobu experience and it was worth it! We
This was my first Nobu experience and it was worth it! We made a reservation and were seated immediately even though we were a few minutes late. The interior is minimal but chic, a little dark but you can definitely see your entire party. I ordered the lychee & elderflower martini, which was super refreshing. We also got a bottle of sake which was super smooth and enjoyed by the entire table. We ordered a bunch of rolls for the entire table to share - yellowtail, tuna, and a few more - everything tasted so fresh. The only thing I noticed was that some of the rolls were a tad bit salty when combined with soy sauce. But literally everything was so fresh, there was a lot of mingling so I wish I got some of the names down, but that just gives me a reason to visit again. For deserts, we got the carrot cake, which came with a lemony cream and vanilla ice cream - really enjoyed this, the lemon was balanced and not overpowering. We also ordered the donuts which I loved and wish they came in a bigger size. The service was amazing, our waiters stopped by multiple times in between dishes and were helpful with recommendations when asked. Definitely stop by if you're in the area, and of course, can afford it.
Had the best experience sitting at the sushi bar.
My waiter was terrible but the sushi chef was on the money. All my nigiri was dressed up. Best way to go.
My boyfriend and I went to nobu to celebrate my birthday
My boyfriend and I went to nobu to celebrate my birthday YESTERDAY and we were really disappointed in our experience. We sat down for our reservation of 7;30pm and didn't leave until 10pm due to slow service. Originally our service informed us that the dishes were brought out one by one which we completely understood, however as service progressed into an hour and a half later after eating our appetizers and saw other diners who arrived after us getting their food we followed up with the waitstaff about our food. We then had two waiters PLUS the manager inform us that the food will be out in a few minutes which lead to another half hour wait just for the sushi to be mid tasting. While the wait staff was very kind and considerate , a $135 dinner that was late and just okay tasting really sucks. We will not be back.
Nobu DC is a quality Nobu location.
Some of my favorite items are the rock shrimp, creamy spicy crab hand roll, and yellowtail jalapeño cut roll. The ambience is intimate and modern. The food usually comes out timely as well. Highly recommend.
Disappointing
Restaurant was freezing cold and therefore uncomfortable. Drinks were good. Starters ok, main plates barely edible: fish tasting of nothing in a broth consisting mostly of fat. Main dishes did not arrive together but with a 5 minutes difference. Would not recommend.
I enjoyed my visit to Nobu dc.
We tried a bunch of a la carte items that were fabulous. The old fashions were good too. With a new friend to chat in a Saturday evening.
Great birthday dinner
Delicious food and a professional knowledgeable server. We came for my birthday and it couldn’t of been a better experience!
Spectacular!
Place is great! Staffs are awesome! Food is to die for! All the staffs are very helpful. With a smile all the time. We’ve heard so much about the food and we were not disappointed. We really enjoyed our experience!
Nobu is the kind of spot that really just leaves you
Nobu is the kind of spot that really just leaves you wanting more. The service is great but I needed more for the price. I was not impressed with any of my food choices. The sushi was good but not filling enough for me to justify leaving VA for a quality Japanese meal. The tuna tartare was fancy, but i wasn't wowed. The black cod was the best dish, but again, I've had better in VA. The environment was cool overall, just a little too dark. Overall, it was ok. I tried nobu in CA, and it was just a better experience. For Nobu DC, I walk away underwhelmed.

The atmosphere is very upscale, the appetizers were delicious and fresh, and the drinks were strong. I came in for a quick happy hour drink before flying out for my birthday trip. I sat at the bar, and both bartenders were very nice. They even comped my drink once they learned that it was my birthday. I will definitely go back for the full dinner experience.
This place has been a very special place for my wife and I.
We have enjoyed birthdays holidays and many other special occasions. We chose to do just that on Valentine's Day. I will start with the positive the food is always amazing. I love the quality and technique and it didn't disappoint this night. The negative is the service was not of the standard that I'm accustomed to. My orders weren't put in at the proper time that table service was rushed. The energy was off. This made me tell my wife this is probably the last time we come here for a while. I hope that if there is a new front of the house which may be the case, they get it together. It really hurts me to say this will probably my last time.
Nobu DC! What a great visit.
My wife and I went here for our Valentine's Day dinner. We ordered their Valentine's Day Omakase. Started off the night with some cocktails, then the sushi and sashimi which was delicious. Ended the night with a refreshing dessert. Quality of the food was good. Service was quick and the ambiance was so cozy and romantic. I do think the price is a bit above the quality of food though. Still a delicious dinner and I hope to return at some point!
I enjoyed a special 'retirement' dinner at Nobu .
Zoe and her staff took care of 12 of us with wonderful food and incredible service. If you are in the mood for special, Nobu is it!
Terrible service starting from the moment you walk in.
Apps are tasty but actual sushi rolls not the greatest. Too pricey for what you're getting and it probably won't even be enough food. Can't justify going there again. Dining and hostess stand service is really very lacking. Also, clientele not very appealing. Not worth the visit at all.
Fresh Flavorful Sushi
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this fabulous restaurant. The Sashimi and Nigiri were so fresh and delicious. We also had the Terriyaki Shrimp and the Spicy Shrimp Garlic which were both superb. The service was outstanding and the ambience was perfect.

I appreciate this Nobu because the atmosphere is very intimate, quiet, and dimly lit. Amazing setting for a romantic date night. Sushi tasted fresh and compares to the bigger-named Nobu locations
The food is amazing.
Get the Black Cod - both lettuce wrap and entree. One of the best things I have ever eaten
Terrible service, great food
Great food, nice atmosphere, terrible service!!!!! the restaurant was not even half full and the waiter took a long time to come back to the table and find out if everything was going well or if we needed anything.
Excellent!!
We came for my partner's birthday and it was a wonderful experience. Service was thoughtful and attentive. All of the offerings sounded amazing, and what we had was spectacular. The yellowtail jalapeño sashimi was really good you could just keep eating it. The crispy rice and tuna was a fun concept as well, it was delicious but I personally thought the rice was too crispy. I understand it has to be that crispy in order to keep its shape. My partner got the beef toban yaki and it was the best steak we've ever had. However, I got the chicken teriyaki and I thought it was a bit dry and should've been a bit better. It was worth every penny overall and they brought out a dessert for my partner's birthday too which was so thoughtful. I brought him here as a surprise and he absolutely loved it. When our travels bring us back to the area, we'll definitely be back at Nobu and their other locations.
No cap it’s litty
The food amazing. Service was elite. Drinks was on point. Dark ambience sets the mood for any date night.
A wonderful evening in DC
The food was wonderful - some highlights: The seared salmon karashi sumiso appetizer was amazing. The chicken teriyaki was perfectly cooked and delicious - perfect for a less adventurous teen - I’m sure the salmon teriyaki would be the same. The miso soup was delicious. The black cod with miso was fabulous - The chocolate bento box (actually a lava cake) was one of the best I’ve ever had. We had a delightful evening celebrating my daughter’s birthday. The staff were helpful and attentive. At times it could be hard to find someone to ask for assistance -when we did they were very helpful.
Birthday dinner with my friends! Ambiance- 8/10.
..the place is super sexy. The lighting is low enough to have a mood, but you can can still see the person you're talking to. I wish the music wasn't so loud since we were all trying to talk and were practically yelling to be heard. Food- 6/10...I had high expectations based on the popularity of this place. However, the food was a hit or miss. The lobster dish...HIT. The lobster was cooked so well and it was delicious. The waygu dumplings...MISS. They were so salty they were almost inedible. The sushi was good...but I've had better elsewhere. Service- 9/10...our waitress was pretty attentive and handled our party of 10 very well. Given that it was a big group, they were only able to accommodate 4 cards per bill but we were able to make it work. They didn't rush us out and we were able to stay as long as we wanted, which is refreshing in this current dining culture. Nobu was cute but I don't know if I'll be rushing back anytime soon.

Great environment, food, and cocktails! Not a long wait and service was fast. Would return. Mango martini made w/ Mezcal (photo) is the best drink not on the menu. They need to add it!
Bravo.
Now that was a Five Star meal. Everything was delicious. The service was amazing. Drinks were great. Dessert was great. Sushi made fresh and right in front of you. From the Chef's hands to directly on your plate. Worth every penny! The decor and ambiance was gorgeous. 5 Stars!
The food was good.
But: they put us on hold for ten minutes in the middle of the afternoon, simply to confirm our reservation. Then another delay to work out the spelling of my wife's name for the presentation of a birthday dessert. But when that dessert was delivered, it was not personalized, despite all the time and planning they said was necessary. To repeat, the food was good. The servers were attentive. But the front office made for an almost comically bad birthday dining experience. I would ordinarily not take the time to write. But I think the front office is undermining the place.
Im giving this a 4 star due to the service we received.
Our waiter was very nice and made sure we got everything we needed. Honestly nobu is very overpriced but I will say i enjoyed the uni, i have had it before and it was possibly spoiled. The sushi was good but it wasnt anything to die over, mostly I can give it 4 starts because the ingredients seemed fresh. They were out of the wagyu dumpling which was a bummer. I wouldnt go back but grateful for the experience. Its unfortunate to spend a ton of money only to be hungry soon afterwards.
It was so overpriced and we left hungry.
The sushi was average. We were waiting to be blown away and it never happened.
My husband and I were happy to find this place open on New
My husband and I were happy to find this place open on New Years Day since we really wanted to try it and we were looking for places that were open. We got the tasting menu which included:- Uni Taco- Salmon Tartare and Oyster- Sashimi Sampler- Nigiri Sampler- Scallops- Wagyu- MochiThe sushi dishes were the best sushi I've ever had (Sashimi and Nigiri samplers). The sauces with the sashimi were so unique and flavorful. I also really enjoyed the salmon tartare and the oyster. The non-sushi menu items were pretty disappointing to me. The Wagyu was overcooked. The scallops were a bit on the chewy side and I didn't think the flavor of the dish worked. I'd expect more for the prices you pay here.I would highly recommend coming here for the sushi part of the menu. As for the rest of the menu, I'd avoid it.
Everything here is great but be prepared to spend.
Each plate is usually only a few bites so you need lots of plates. My favorites are the lychee martini, black cod butter lettuce and yellowtail with jalepeno.
I'm not quite sure how I've been in the DMV for quite some
I'm not quite sure how I've been in the DMV for quite some time and hadn't been to Nobu yet. I went for Valentine's Day dinner and my experience was absolutely exquisite. From the Waygu dumplings to the Omokase tasting menu, each dish was well thought out with an assortment of flavors I would have never thought to combine on my own. Our server was professional, courteous and easily accessible. I had an amazing experience and look forward to coming back. 10/10 all around!

I took my kids here for dinner and overall it was OK the food wasn't all that good. The atmosphere is nice. My kids enjoyed it. My server was also sweet and helpful but the food didn't taste all that good. The quality has gone down since I went when they first opened.
Wow. The hidden secret is the happy hour!! Incredible
Wow. The hidden secret is the happy hour!! Incredible cocktails, bar bites, and sushi at reasonable prices. The black cod butter lettuce bar bite is a must, delicious flavor, I instantly wanted a second. The Brussel sprouts were unique and also a favorite. For rolls we got spicy tuna, salmon avocado, yellow tail jalapeño - all were so fresh and some of the best sushi I've had. For dessert we tried the banana dish with gelato, YUM. I already am planning my next trip back. The service was excellent and the vibe was chefs kiss. My new favorite happy hour spot!
Anniversary dinner
A wonderful meal! Special mention has to go to the A5 Wagyu flambé steak. Highly recommended even with the (usual) high price tag of $38 per ounce. The garlic shrimp is a gastronome’s delight as well. However, Nobu tripped up on the Chilean Sea Bass in wasabi sauce, with the center of the thick fish not fully cooked….unexpected in a restaurant of Nobu’s impeccable quality. Very good ambience and good service, with valet parking (only on weekends)….definitely recommended especially for the Wagyu offering.
Great tacos à la Japonaise
We ordered lobster and tuna tacos… bite size but the taste was heavenly. Sushi was good too - the wasabi is authentique… the caramel banana at the end of the meal is so yummy… service was good but our server explained the dishes so quickly that we hardly had time to digest what he said… luckily we are quite familiar with fine Japanese cuisines.
Food A+. But I felt I was a bit inconvenient…
I have been this restaurant around the world but a couple of little irks tonight as a solo female. I couldn’t book online as a single 😳. I popped into the restaurant personally to make a solo reservation. I sat at the sushi station which I love to watch. Food was amazing. But I felt rushed and had to try and download an APP to order a drink. Well that didn’t work as I am roaming from NZ. Overall great. But maybe in the rush back after COVID, and the challenge of hospitality service staff we have forgotten that some of us want to take our time, and it’s premium here, so no rush!!
Wow!
What a treat! I have never been to a Nobu before and I totally get the hype. We had the first reservation at 5. They didn't open the doors until 5 which was a little odd as we all stood outside waiting. Once inside, the service level was AMAZING. Plates cleared quickly and often, food runners offering tips on how to eat things, waiter giving great recommendations, water refilled and cocktails timed well. The food was so good. They recommend you do family stye ordering multiple items for the table. The portion sizes were surprisingly generous. We were a party of three and were able to get a decent portion of every dish. Chilean Seabass with Black Bean Sauce and Crisp Rice with Spicy Tuna were two of our favorites but ordered lots of different things and had no misses.
