Failed but not irreparable
Booked this hotel through Amex FHR. The rate and additional perk of free valet parking was appealing and we decided to give them a try. Nobu is a fairly new property located in Phipps Plaza. It’s difficult to find and not ideally situated. Valet and bell staff are very efficient and courteous. Initial checkin was pleasant, but it is quite evident that the staff is new and not well trained. That being said most are eager, willing and have great potential. There were also signs that the hotel was under staffed, as we saw many employees that seemed to be working double shifts and one particular staff member, as we were told, had multiple performance issues, but had not been terminated. More on that later. Our initial impressions were good. The hotel lobby smells amazing and we were offered a lovely tea and hot towels. We received the FHR room upgrade to a higher floor executive room. When we arrived to our room it was clean, sufficiently spacious and well decorated. We unpacked and decided to relax a bit before dinner. Here’s where our pleasant experience takes a turn. First, the remote for the TV was missing, no big deal, called the front desk and one was delivered. Next, as we are relaxing a loud rumble starts to emanate from the HVAC system. It was so loud I recorded it and called the front desk. We were asked if we’d like them to send up the engineer. My first thought was, is this a rhetorical question? YES! 10 minutes later a gentleman arrives at our door. My husband tells him the issue and plays the recording. He literally stood in one spot frozen staring at the HVAC unit in silence, a long uncomfortable silence. Then the whiff of marijuana permeated the room and hit us in the face. This “engineer” after breaking his stare and silence finally spoke and said “ahhhh, I don’t know”. We immediately sent him on his merry, useless way and called the front desk. Now, we are concerned for our safety and very uneasy. The front desk apologized and relocated us to a different room. A downgrade from the original room, on a lower floor where we had the pleasure of having a front row seat to the roaring car and motorcycle sideshow that went on all night. Additionally, when the person from the front desk brought us our new keycard, we got an earful about the “engineer”. We were told that he’s been a “problem” for a very long time and they haven’t been able to get rid of him. Thanked us for exposing him, so they can finally do something. What?! Needless to say we did not sleep. I called the front desk to request that we be allowed to checkout without further charges. The gentleman we spoke to apologized profusely and asked if there was anyway that they could rectify the situation and give them another chance. But first he needed to wait for his manager to arrive. He was very kind and convincing, so we decided we would at least speak to the manager. When we let him know of our safety concerns about them having a “problem” employee he stated that “xxxx was harmless”. Clearly the entire staff knows about xxxx. He asked us how we knew about xxxx performance issues. I told him and he was rather appalled, as he should have been. Fast forward we spoke to the manager, who was gracious and professional. She said she needed to speak to her manager and would call us later. Apparently her empowerment is limited to $100. Lack of empowerment and training is a clear problem at this property. She then proceeded to tell us the range of accommodations that would possibly be made. We found this a bit premature and confusing considering she did not have the power to make such a decision. By the end of the day we were placed in an upgraded room and comped 1 day. A far cry from the range of outcomes promised, but acceptable. We were hopeful that our challenges were behind us, but no. We were charged for parking daily and had to call/message to have the billing corrected multiple times. Then after we checked out my Amex was charged for breakfast, which was included with FHR. I was told that they saw the error and it would be corrected. Disappointed to say, it has not and I’ve had to initiate a dispute with Amex. The bottom line is, we encountered so many employees who worked hard, were enthusiastic and had limitless potential. Unfortunately, from our perspective their talents are undeveloped as they are not trained or supported. As a corporation they are failing these folks. Also note, that this hotel has replaced its GM within a year of opening. Which tells me the problems are systemic and start at the top. This property does not meet the Nobu tradition of excellence or the Amex FHR expectation.

I would have to say that from the time of check-in to the time of check-out, my stay at the property was terrific. Upon entering the building, I was welcomed by Irasshaimsai (which means welcome). I was walked up to my room by the bellman supervisor, and it looked like he was training a new associate. Entering my room, they also showed me the ins and outs of the tech in the room. The hotel room was spacious and welcoming. I have stood here for about five nights, and waking up felt tremendous and refreshing each morning. Also, I liked the Hinoki bath stool; I must get one for my apartment. I did get a chance to dine in the Nobu Restaurant for Breakfast each morning, and I didn't see much of a Japanese flair for breakfast but just had the Americanized items they had. The hotel is also right across from the Phipps Plaza - Luxury Mall and AMC movie theater, which is very convenient. I would come back for a future stay when seeing family again.

The hotel is perfectly situated in Phipps Plaza and the team at the front desk is top notch - Antonese is the best! And, I heard she's a great mom! I will come back when I'm in Atlanta next time for business. Bar and restaurant were great also.....
Be the first to ReplyGreat hotel for all stays
As a frequent traveler, I really love this hotel. Whether I'm traveling on business or for personal reasons, Nobu is a great fit. The staff is friendly, the rooms, gym, and lobby are always clean, the location is great, and the Porche shuttle service is a nice touch. I also would like to give a special shoutout to Antonise (sp), who is relatively new but still explified a can do attitude and was really helpful as I sought to sort out some things from previous stays

My husband and I recently enjoyed a staycation at Nobu Atlanta. Having dined at the restaurant several times before, we decided to experience the hotel. As others have mentioned, the hotel greets you with a delightful aroma upon entering, and we found the service and location to be excellent. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance of great shops and restaurants, and the even offers a house car for short rides. However, I must admit that I was not overly impressed with the rooms. Despite reserving a Premium King, which we assumed would be on a higher floor, we ended up on the third floor. The room and bathroom were a bit smaller than expected, but nicely decorated. We made our reservation using a credit card that offered a hotel credit and a breakfast credit. During check-out the next morning, we were informed that the invoice for our stay would be emailed later in the day. Unfortunately, we never received the invoice but noticed a charge for breakfast on our credit card statement. Upon calling to inquire about the credit, the responsive staff quickly corrected the charges and promptly emailed us an invoice. While the hotel has a few flaws, we are open to giving it another try in a different room category.

Finding the parking is a chore but once at the hotel and restaurant, it's worth it. Place was empty for lunch and decor is sterile. Stop there as the food and service are amazing. We came for my dad's 95th and we had a private room for 14. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. Food is amazing. We had fixed menu and the sushi; cod; sashimi; and matcha ice cream were exquisite. I recommend.
Be the first to ReplyA few easy tweaks away from being top tier
We stayed at the new-ish Nobu Hotel in Buckhead a week ago. First thing, the hotel is beautiful. The hallways are moody and seductive, the rooms deliver a warm yet sleek vibe that Nobu is known for. The beds are supremely comfortable and the bedding is top tier. We've stayed at many wonderful hotels and this bedding setup is easily up there. I also want to bring attention to the bathroom fixtures from Gessi which are visual and tactile works of art. I love them. Service was also very gracious and always happy to assist. These was a small issue that occurred and they absolutely made it right. The property is so close to being top tier in the city, after a few simple tweaks. First is property detail. While the property is gorgeous, a bit more love needs to go into overall polish. For example, in the fitness center the fruit never had more than one piece of fruit in it. The whole entry area of the fitness center felt a little sad. This is easy to fix however. Also, breakfast could use a bit of a Japanese touch in addition to more pomp and circumstance into the overall presentation. It didn't really feel like we were having breakfast in a beautiful room, it felt like we were eating in the Nobu space (which is normally bustling at night) that is too large for a breakfast service. This is trickier one to get right in such a normally dark room but I know it can be done. Next is the valet. They've outsourced it to 12 Oaks, which is a local valet operator. That's 100% fine for a shopping center in the area but a hotel like this should have it's own valet crew. Not just because of the presentation but for practical purposes as well. The valet usually had one person which meant that people were waiting far far too long for their cars. Also, unlike a hotel which has valet integrated, you can't call the car from your room beforehand. They have a system where you can text a number to have it requested. This works fine the first time you use it but after that it become a mess because every time you bring your car back they need to give you a new number. When you bring your car in during hours you want to be able to drop the keys and go but each time here you need to wait for them to activate the number. Once again, this system works perfectly for the Nobu restaurant on it's own but is a bad system for hotel guests. That said, these are all fixable issues. Once they are rectified Nobu Hotel should become one of the top properties in Atlanta.

Sheldon, the front desk agent, provided exemplary service. I arrived late at night and he made sure I got dinner before the restaurant closed, while still checking me in. He was also friendly and available throughout my stay. Three of my favorite things at the hotel were 1) pillows were not too thick like at many other hotels, 2) you can make tea in the room, and 3) the gym was clean with nice equipments. Downside is that the location is hard to find for Ubers.

I was in town visiting family and can’t say how much at home I felt both being with them and staying with you. I felt so pampered just laying on my hotel bed with the plumpest pillows! The cuisine was exquisite, needless to say and went hand in hand with the ambiance. It’s a stunning hotel and I was genuinely glad I decided to treat myself!

I had a wonderful experience at Nobu Atlanta. The staff, room, drinks, service and food met all of my expectations. I could not recommend this property more for locals looking for a staycation or any out of town visitors. I cannot wait to go back!

Amazing stay! The hotel was gorgeous and service was impeccable. Our room was spacious and comfortable with every detail attended to-- a true luxury experience. We had a delicious breakfast in-room delivered within 20 minutes of ordering. We also ate at the bar at Nobu for dinner— the food and cocktails were incredible, as expected! The atmosphere was perfect for a date night, and the bar staff was so friendly and attentive with swift service. Can't wait to come back again in the summer and check out the rooftop bar and pool! The location is also ideal— walkable to everything in Buckhead and connected to Phipps Plaza for great shopping!

It can be a little hard to find since the Google GPS takes you through Phipps parking garage but once you arrive it’s like walking into a 5 star hotel restaurant. The smell is amazing and everything is beautiful. The food at Nobu was all top notch as usual. What made this experience different was the service. Ashley the server was amazing and curated us a perfect dining experience. Def recommend staying in one of their rooms and having a good dinner while there.

Be the first to ReplyA disappointment
We have been to NOBU locations around the world. The Atlanta facility was a disappointment. My wife and I celebrated Valentine’s Day last week. The room was very nice. It was clean and minimalistic. We had dinner at the restaurant. We both had the Omakase experience at a cost of $200 per person. While the presentation was great but we both had food poisoning. I recovered quickly but my wife is stealing with this 4 days later I told the front desk and restaurant manager with no reply to my emails We had Omakase in NYC, London, and other restaurants. I would recommend staying away from the Atlanta location until the get there act together
