Nobu Amsterdam Reviews from The Last Year
Strong flavours and quick service
Yup, high quality and expensive as others have written …. But there is more here to make this restaurant unusual: Plenty of young serving staff, open kitchen on view to diners, quick service between courses (we did wonder whether it was even possible to have a slow-paced meal here …. ). The flavours were good but also unusually strong (and I don’t mean spicy, I mean strong) - not the subtlety of really good Japanese cuisine. You may like this, you may not. Portions slightly larger than average - you won’t leave hungry. On a summer’s Saturday evening there were plenty of youngish diners, some very heavily perfumed - men more than women. Diners close to each other so there was no easy escape from the odour. But luckily your nose desensitizes after a few minutes …. Plenty of light in the restaurant, mix of table settings including standard 4-person squares and bar seating. An interesting restaurant. It will disappoint Japanese traditionalists but appeal to many others. Worth trying.
Top, top, top
A joy to be here. Izakaya is the restaurant for the true lover of Japanese food. All dishes are incredibly tasty and of top quality. A combination of fish and meat dishes, including of course a delicious Wagyu dish and sushi, should not be missed. Tasting these delicious dishes together with beautiful wines including white Rioja and red wine from the Douro makes it really great. All this in an attractive environment and the confidential Jan as host at our table completes the evening.
Izakaya …
Taste, texture, presentation, quality of food served was excellent! Friendly staff but can be noisy at peak hours! Nice virgin cocktails!
Worst Japanese in North Holland
Small restaurant, food was mediocre and we were sent to the lobby with our dessert and wine... truly unprecedented. And especially for the price you pay. Won't come back again. Comes across as a factory presented in a so-called "chic" guise.
DO NOT MISS IT !
I don’t extol the virtue of restaurant food very often, despite the thousands of write ups I’ve done on TripAdvisor / and I entered this restaurant while staying at the hotel Sir Albert, not too excited, but wow. I can only comment on the food we ate, so we may just have nailed it on our choices - but these were some of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten! Our server Jan was very nice too. Great buzz and views out of the windows to the street outside: Octopus - best I’ve ever had King spicy prawn - wow amazing Chocolate snow dessert / wow Don’t miss it if you enjoy Asian fusion food - it’s not cheap, but it is good!
Fabulous Asian Food!
Our family had dinner here last month while vacationing in Amsterdam. The food was fabulous and the service great. Our family of 6 including a two year old dined on many small plate options and each and every option was excellent. Fun atmosphere, not too loud and walking distance from our hotel on Prisengracht. Make a reservation.
Tasty Japanese food and nice atmosphere
Outstanding small dishes like pop corn shrimp tempura or scallops in truffle sauce. The staff is very friendly, service punctual, a bit pricy and noisy but overall we enjoyed it very much
Excellent Japanese and Japanese fusion. Gorgeous
Each dish was succulent and we know a lot about Japanese and fusion cuisine. Fried oyster, crispy tuna rice, toro sushi, soft shell crab tempura and Japanese citrus fish "amazu" and tiyaki dessert (small pancakes in the shape of sea bream fish with a fabulous marshmallow mousse ! Perfect service with a smile, good wines by the glass, good sake too. It's out of the ordinary and it's not that expensive!
Good food but nothing special
The food is fresh, but expensive. You expect something special. The food was similar to sumo. Food that was still on the table was taken away without asking if it could be taken away. Service was also friendly.
Yum
Lovely staff and delicious food if you are looking to treat yourself. I went solo and sat at the bar.
Top experience
The restaurant was amazing , decoration it’s nice The bar it’s in the middle The service it’s nice Food just amazing , my wife was so happy
Fish and cocktails
Amazing food, fresh fish, and interesting flavours. It is on the pricey side but good portions and the food is worth it, good cocktails too. Recommend!
Sushi extra special
Delicious food, the sushi and meat dishes are of very high quality. It's not cheap but certainly a taste sensation
Don't fall for it
Overhyped, but what an old-fashioned place. Sushi that doesn't taste like anything, not to mention the scallop. The one from the fishmonger is 4x as cheap but also 4x as tasty pfffff….
Overrated
Sorry but what an overrated restaurant this is. Expensive and even worse impersonal and uninterested service. We were poorly advised about the amount of food, so we ordered too little and could not order anything extra because the kitchen was too busy and we really had to leave our table at 9 o'clock. It's too bizarre for words that you leave a restaurant hungry. There are much better restaurants in Amsterdam where you are still a guest.
Nice food and atmosphere
Small menu, but sufficient choice. Dishes are small and quite expensive but taste very good. Service was very friendly and nice. Not sure if it’s value for money though.
