Eager to return. Not to be missed!
Exceeded expectations! Delighted with indulgence of sushi prepared unlike any I had experienced. Small single portion of carefully selected and presented simply.
Knowledgable Sushi chef . Eager to return.
We had the total meal which I highly recommend. Each of the multiple servings I would not have known or ordered on my own, each fantastic!
Minimalist Perfection
Every detail at nimblefish is expertly crafted and thoughtful. This minimalist sushi restaurant is extremely Japanese in the way that it celebrates simple, yet perfect dishes. Not only is the sushi excellently prepared, but the quality of the fish phenomenal. The service is great and the tableware/decor are simply beautiful.
This isn't a flashy place, you won't find extravagant rolls or Americanized menu items, but for those who appreciate the simplicity of tradition sushi prepared well without the bells and whistles, this is Portland's best.
Do Your Homework
This isn't sushi from the cold case at Fred Meyer or your regular neighborhood California roll factory. This is sushi served in the "edomae" style (look it up, it's an interesting read). Yes, prices are higher, but they source types of fish rarely seen outside of Japan. Note the texture of the different slivers of fish, the nuanced flavor. Yes, Hokkaido scallops taste different than California scallops. Not necessarily better, different. I did à la carte, and my wife did the small omakase menu. We both did well. An adventurous sushi fan will have fun here. Pay special attention to the seasonal fish list, and by all means, get the scallop sashimi. Also, spend some time with the sake list if you are a fan of dryer sake.

My first attempt at sushi and was not disappointed. It was a group of 9 and we were well taken care of. The shrimp soup was outstanding as well. I liked the tuna sushi and salmon as well as the seared eel.

Very high quality sushi, served in a relaxed atmosphere. I recommend the omkase menu especially if you are having a difficult deciding. Of all the places I ate in Portland, I would eat here again on my next trip.
While some reviewers have mentioned price, if you want mass produced sushi, go to a supermarket.
Pure sushi!!
This is the real thing so to truly enjoy it you must understand this is not a typical sushi place. I agree about the price but just savor the experience and don't go hungry. We were the first ones in the door on a weeknight and for 30 mins. had the place to ourselves at the bar. Service was excellent. Sake recommendation was spot on.

We enjoyed this very much. The delicate smoked salmon, tuna belly was sushi perfection. Clean simple sea taste. Very classic and pure. What we didn’t like is what others have noted- slow (but friendly) service, no real waiting area, limited and uninteresting wine and beer selection with small expensive pours, and after ordering many items (and spending about $160 for two), we got pizza later. Good if you want classic pure sushi, and you had a large lunch.

It was interesting to try once. But that was enough for us. Quality of fish is good. But I agree with another reviewer: when we left the space we thought 'what a whirlwind... what just happened'. Staff was fine. Hand rolls and sashimi were fine but again taking price into consideration in comparison to what you get in return - it makes you do a double take (and we didn't even order their overpriced sakes). We love going out to various sushi and poke spots but this place definitely had me take note of the final bill (and we still ended up going another place for cocktails and because we were left a bit hungry).

I’ve been to great sushi places in Japan and it felt the same. This place is a gem! The fish is fresh and delicious + the experience is outstanding. Bring your wine for a short cork fee!

Quality top notch and a list of fish rarely seen state side. Ive been 3 times now and each time the seasonal list was on point. Consistent quality ever time and the chefs definitely know what they are donig. I would not! Repeat “not” go here looking for rainbow rolls. They focus on fish and serving it their way. The sushi chef way, the way you should be eating it. Real wasabi and amazing rice! Doesn’t feel like a Portland shop to me. These guys could hang tough in nyc. It aint cheap! But its worth it if you love nigiri!
