so disappointed
My 25 year old daughter had her first birthday at Nick's and visited every year until her 17th. Our previous experiences have been spectacular however our visit a week ago was everything but. Doug used to greet customers, somehow remembered them, and shared great thoughts on wine. Unfortunately, he was busy getting tables ready for next customers. The food was disappointing across the board and they comped 1 of our meals. Of note, the principal was in the restaurant that night. I introduced myself at the beginning but did not have the opportunity to share our experience at the evening end. The waiter was very apologetic and accommodating.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food for a Special Meal
Open air seating which we learned is common on Maui, the atmosphere was pleasant and the service excellent. This is a high end experience. I don’t think I would take the kids here, but we saw plenty and it was not an issue. The restaurant is attached to a resort and we walked there on the shoreline walkway from our accommodations. Our server was knowledgeable and helped my wife pick a wine by bringing a taster, which was nice. I had a Manhattan and it was ok, but nothing special. What was special was the food! We tried the seared ahi tuna with some sort of magical wasabi/avocado mixture and delicious sauce. This was nearly raw and sushi grade of course. The searing helps the fish stay together as you wipe up the sauce and add the wasabi. Very delicate and we hacked our way through it with the offered chop sticks. My wife is gluten free and there were a variety of options as well as flexibility to prepare any dish gluten free. She had the Mahi mahi with a pepper sauce (I forgot to try it) and I took the waiter’s recommendation for the catch of the day which was Opakapaka and honestly the best white fish I have ever eaten. For a special night out, this was a home run.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Service
The service here is exceptional. Chris was excellent. The Lamb and Mahi Mahi are two favorite dishes for our family. I tried a different dish this year, the Abalone, and I would not order it again. My daughter and husband liked the pot stickers best of the appetizers and I liked the crab cake best. We enjoy the lighting of the torches.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and poor quality food
The restaurant is in the Fairmont Hotel in Wailea. Nice terrace with view into the garden. Service was friendly….but: surprisingly poor quality dishes are served by the waiters with a sincere believe they serve something very special. What a joke. The Greek Maui Wowie was a mix of shrimp an other vegetable..with some majo, neither tasteful nor nicely presented. Main course, Mahi Mahi…a dried out fish filet - probably sat under the warming lamp in the kitchen for 1/2 hrs, before served. All of the flavor was gone. My wife and daughter had the Chicken Coteletta….not good, rather go to CFA…. Overall a bad experience…just surprising how low standard quality dishes are hyped up by other guest. And the prices are horrifyingly high for the quality.
Be the first to ReplyWatch the sunset over the ocean with phenomenal food
Nick's Fishmarket is open air with beautiful views of the Fairmont property and the Pacific in the distance. The waitstaff does not rush customers, so take your time with ordering and stay for the incredible sunset. We shared the strawberry and beet salad, which was amazing - they gave us choices for our dressings between a garlic dairy-based one and a dairy-free pesto, Both were delicious. For our entrees, I chose the Morrocan Spiced Salmon and asked for some slight changes due to dietary constraints. The restaurant went above and beyond to craft not only a delectable dish, but also with a presentation that blew us away. My friend ordered one of the specials - the fish piccata (fish of the day was okapapaka). Another huge hit, and both dishes were suprisingly hearty. We went light for dessert, after so much delightful food and the presentation on the mango and raspberry sorbets could not have been more beautiful. The wine pour was generous as well (we each had one glass with dinner). Service was top notch - our water glasses were refilled before we could ask, there were many people around to help with taking dishes away, asking if we needed anything else, and ensuring that we were happy with our meals. Would go here again in a minute!
Be the first to ReplyMeh - typical hotel/resort restaurant
As you’ll find at most hotel/resort restaurants in destinations like Maui, they try and generally fall short. Particularly for the price point. For starters, the cocktails were forgettable and odd. The Black and Blue Marg was decent. No real gripes, but nothing stood out. Then the $20 Blood Orange Old Fashioned. Crushed ice? Full navel orange slice instead of a rind? It had a filthy cherry (good), but ALSO a Maraschino? Cocktails are pretty basic. The crab cakes were solid overall but the pork potstickers were not good and just oddly prepped/presented for what they were. We were going to do dinner, but after the first few offerings, we opted to go elsewhere. If you’re looking for great food, look elsewhere. Places like Maui generally suck in the mid range in hotel areas, so find either the stupid expensive places or popular food trucks. It’s where the best food will be.
Be the first to ReplySooo good!
Sunset outdoor dining was beautiful, service was outstanding, meals were among the best we’ve had on the island. Friends had the daily catch opaka paka, which they said was excellent, and I was crazy about the hidden tiger shrimp. Unique flavor profile and presentation.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and fun atmosphere in bar area.
Nick’s having amazing food!!! The appetizers and dinners are all wonderful. Eric and Dave are fun and talented bartenders whom we have enjoyed several nights during our stay.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding service and food for our party of 11 !
Fabulous family experience at Nick’s. We had a party of 11 ranging from young children to adults. Our server, Chris, was magnificent. Patiently describing everything from cocktails, children’s menus, to appetizers and entrees. He provided detailed descriptions and recommendations. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and drinks. Great oysters, ahi appetizers and entrees, fish of the day with outstanding preparation, and rack of lamb. Flawless service made this family birthday celebration a memorable occasion. Thank you Chris!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Christmas day dinner!
Went to Nick's for dinner on Christmas day. It was a prix fixe menu, but offered many choices for each course. Two of us had the surf and turf and three had the prime rib. All of our food in each course was simply amazing! We left full and satisifed! The service was also excellent. Our water glasses were never empty and our waiter was very attentive. He even got us an extra appetizer for no additional charge! Also, my son ordered a glass of wine that they had in stock, but our waiter could not find in the computer system so he did not charge us for it! It was pretty expensive ($135 a head, not including tax or tip or alcohol), but I didn't expect it not to be given that it was Christmas in Wailea. I would pay it again for how good it was for such a special day!
Be the first to ReplyIt was great birthday celebration at Nick’s
We had a great dinner at Nick’s Fish Market at Fairmont Kealani, shout out to Chris -Manager and Cheston our server along with the rest of the staff. They were all very attentive and the foods were very delicious. A night to remember, Thank you! My Friends and I haven’t been there for a while and I must say my friends and loved it!
Be the first to ReplyAnother try but the same challenges
We were recommended to try Nick’s out and were disappointed the first time. We tried them again just recently and unfortunately it was the same result. The service was quite poor and the waiter seemed very flustered and inattentive. Not sure if they are short staffed this time but not a good experience. The food was just ok. Sorry.
Be the first to ReplyNicks not up to usual standard
We dinned at Nicks on the 12th July for our 22nd anniversary, we also had some friends join us to make a party of 8. When finally seated about 15 mins late, as table wasn’t ready, the menu was clearly Covid affected, as it had been cut down considerably from the menu of years gone. We have dinner at Nicks numerous times over the years. There also seemed like a lacking of staff. Our main waiter was very good and I have only one issue with him, which is, when we finished our one bottle of wine, nobody asked if we wanted to order another. When our starters arrived, a couple of people got salads with their starters, at the end of the starters, two more salads arrived with most, but not all plates cleared. Shortly after that the entrees arrived, while people were still eating their salads, some plates still not cleared & this particular waiter started placing the entrees (he was not our main waiter), it made our guests feel like they had to rush their meal. My wife ordered the macadamia crusted mahi, the chilli sauce must have come from the bottom of the pan, as it was so hot, she could not eat it and sent it back (later in our room she complained that he lip was burned), her meal was replaced. When our deserts arrived, it was clearly pack up time, as staff where busy clearing all tables. Tea, coffee or liqueurs - not offered. Overall, after not being at Nicks for a number of years, due to Covid and other reasons, I found our experience somewhat disappointing, particularly when we had told our friends how good it (usually) is. I would have preferred to send this review direct to Nicks, but could not locate an email address.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely dinner out for the whole family, even the fussiest.
We enjoyed a beautiful family dinner & the service was fantastic. There were 9 in our group so we had a pretty good selection of the menu across our family & we all enjoyed our meals, not a complaint from anyone, in fact the desserts were that yummy my son ordered his after seeing everyone elses arrive at the table.
Be the first to ReplyHeaven in My Mouth
My husband and I visited on our honeymoon. We did not have a reservation, but we got to sit at the bar with Eric and Dave and we could not have received better service. They recommended the BEST food I’ve ever eaten in my life, made us delicious cocktails, and provided the best service. We will come again and keep coming until we’ve tried everything on the menu!
Be the first to ReplyMediocre meal
Service was just mediocre felt rushed. Fish was dry, very noisy lots of kids. View was nice as we could see sunset but it was not a relaxing meal. Good choice on menu
Be the first to ReplyVery Good. Great Ambiance
Tried Nick's last night for the first time. Ordered 3 appetizers and drinks. The food was good, the drinks were decent. Loved the ambianc
Be the first to ReplyBest meal in our Maui Trip
This was our last dinner in Maui, and I was looking for someplace special. When I saw this listing, I managed to snag a reservation and we drove quickly to make it. This is in the Fairmont Hotel - at the bottom of the stairs to the left past the entrance and fountain. Our server was Chevis, who was the best server we have had in all of Maui. Attentive, positive, and he knew every detail on the menu and the specials, and could talk about them with enthusiasm. The rest of the staff was also attentive - the water glasses never ran dry once. This was our anniversary trip. We started by splitting a Caesar salad, which had roasted garlic on top. No anchovies, but the garlic did help. The single salad was big enough for two. My wife went with their pan-seared Ahi Tuna, and I chose their fresh catch Opakapaka, which was served on a bed of carrots and broccolini, in a bed of barley and capers. The fish was topped with a healthy dollop of tomatoes which had been boiled down all night, and provided a smooth taste to the fish. The presentation on all the courses was outstanding. We wrapped things up with a piece of cheesecake and a scoop of their in house made raspberry sorbet, both of which were fantastic. The restaurant also included a flan dish for our anniversary. Better than Spago? Service? Yes Food? Yes Price? Yes This place is really good. Get a reservation, and give it a try.
Be the first to ReplyMelt in your mouth, savor every bite exquisite meal
Exquisite! Every dish—from the appetizers to the desserts was savor every bite, world class cuisine. It was my third time here and is is consistently OUTSTANDING. Forget Mama’s fish house, Nick’s is the fine dining experience you want to have. The service, presentation, flavors—even their accommodation for my severe allergy. Hands down, best fancy meal out on Maui!
Be the first to ReplyHigh end, excellent service and food
We had a nontraditional Easter dinner here and loved it. Our server had great advice on our orders and we loved all of our dishes, including the ahi app and ahi entree. Even a solid kids menu. Great cocktails, views, service, food
Be the first to ReplyThe staff was super nice and the food was fantastic
Super great ambient, the staff wonderful and the appetizers and entrees so delicious. No words to describe the delightful flavors
Be the first to ReplySpendy but nice view, good service, good food
My husband and I decided to splurge for our 30th anniversary and chose this restaurant. It has a beautiful setting and you could see the sunset through the palm trees. It was quite busy and a bit noisy even though most of the dining was on a patio area. It was all elegant and the service was great. We both enjoyed our meals and they were elegantly presented. The prices were on the high end from what we normally choose but for a special occasion it was a nice treat.
Be the first to ReplyFish, fish, and nice people
Ok, so the ladies at the front of house aren’t very polite or nice. But, once you get past them, the rest of the staff are wonderful and entirely dedicated to making you feel good. The food is mostly good, and honestly when we had a bad dish, they took the cost off our bill. Can’t ask better than that. Would definitely recommend.

A favorite of ours when we are in Maui. We were seated outdoors as we requested and we also did takeout during our stay. My daughter loved the macadamia crusted mahi mahi. My husband loved the rack of lamb. My favorite was the crab cake appetizer.
Be the first to ReplyNick's--the best of everything
The first nite of our Maui stay, we had a wonderful dinner at Nick's. It was so good, we decided we didn't want to run around looking for other places. We ended up having dinner every night of our 5-night stay in Maui. It isn't cheap but is totally memorable. Don't cheat yourself by looking elsewhere.
