This branch of New Ubin was just as delicious as the branch on Hillview Avenue (with my comparison based on having visited both branches within a few week period). Dishes are more expensive here than the Hillview branch, but I feel that for the premium location, it's a worthy trade off to take friends who are only visiting Singapore for a short period to this branch. The alternative of taking public transport from the CBD/town area to Hillview and back, or a taxi, aren't that appealing either. For three people, we ordered one small crab, attendant golden man tou, Hokkien mee, prawn paste chicken, and dou miao. All were amazing (I'm craving them as I write this), except the prawn paste chicken I felt wasn't as prawny as it should be (though it was otherwise cooked nicely crispy outside and tender inside), so feel free to skip that one. For those who don't know those dishes, Hokkien mee is a mix of noodles and seafood in a prawn-based sauce, while dou miao are snow pea sprouts cooked to amazingly crunchy yet savory effect. Man tou are small buns that must go with every chili crab dish, because mopping up the chili crab sauce with man tou is the REAL reason people order the dish. Btw, the chili crab sauce here is quite tomato-y and sweet, so I don't think the spice level will be a huge issue even for our foreign friends. The service here was not as stellar as I would have liked though. For example, I had to prompt the service staff to bring extra crab crackers (they brought one for the three of us, which is a little icky especially for foreign friends who aren't used to communal dining in the first place). I also had to prompt them for the chili sauce that is normally serve with Hokkien mee, which really transforms the whole experience eaten with the dish. When I requested these, the servers did comply promptly and cheerfully though. So... if you're going without a local friend to help with all this, remember to request the Hokkien mee chili!
