N.C. Seafood Restaurant at the Farmers Market Raleigh Reviews from The Last Year
Good food for good prices.
Friendly and quick staff. You order at the counter and find an open seat, and even with a busy Sunday crowd we were able to find open tables. Loved the clam chowder and peel and eat shrimp the most! Hush puppies, fries and slaw come with all plates and the hush puppies are amazing!
They use fresh oil all the time and fresh seafood.
And you get more than what you need for a reasonable price. Most people end up taking some home because they're so much. Why other people don't give them five stars I have no idea but you can not be the seafood here.
Warehouse style restaurant, but local, friendly, and quick
Warehouse style restaurant, but local, friendly, and quick service for fresh seafood. This is nearby to where I live and right by campus, so I expect to come back regularly as the portions are substantial even given the price... I'm not exactly a small eater and their standard plate and two sides is about two meals for me. Everything so far has been good food wise in my three takeout pickups so far, I do like their chowder (even if it is different than what I grew up with in Boston) and that's going to be a regular order for me. The folks eating there are generally families but they say "hi" if you greet them. Good local spot.
Get your Calabash style fried seafood fix here without
Get your Calabash style fried seafood fix here without driving 3 hrs to the beach. We used to frequent this restaurant regularly when we lived in Raleigh 20+ years ago. Now removed from the area, it's a moment of nostalgia when we get to visit. I recently visited and found it to be pretty much the same as it used to be. The menu has been trimmed down and re-focused in recent years but that's OK. What you want to get here is one of the fried seafood platters with fries, hushpuppies, and slaw. Fried shrimp being my personal favorite. The large and honestly even the regular size are easily enough for two, or alternatively you will have leftovers to take home for your air fryer which is also good. Service is quick and fast. This is as good as any Calabash style restaurant at the coast without the long drive. Give them a try and support your local restaurants!

Haven't been here in a year, but this is a more slimmed down restaurant as opposed to what it used to be. Food comes out quickly and seafood is fresh. However, there really need to be more seating. People have to stand around and wait to swoop in on a table. Kind of makes you feel rushed. My other complaint, and some may consider it petty, is that the condiments are no long readily available. You can't get anything until your order is complete and if you need to go back and get some more, say lemon or vinegar, you have to cite your order number. The coleslaw is more bland that it used to be too- it could use some modifications. Hushpuppies continue to be wonderful.
Place is air conditioned.
Very clean. Ordered lunch portion of fried shrimp, large portion of fried shrimp and New England Clam Chowder. The shrimp platers were HUGE!! The large one would have been enough for my wife and I. Chowder was good, but you're not in New England. Definetly go there for the fish. You won't regret it.
Good seafood at a good price
I was visiting the flea market at the state fairgrounds and was told about this restaurant so we hopped in the car and drove 10 minutes to give it a try. We got a regular size flounder and shrimp and it was huge! I’m a big eater but we could have spilt a meal easily. I got 2 and a half pieces of nice size flounder and probably two big hands full of shrimp. The fries and hush puppies were really good. The slaw was a little plain. There was a long line out the door but it moved fairly quickly. The food was hot and made to order. Seating is shared at picnic tables. Lots of seafood for a decent price. Would recommend a trip here and then a visit to the farmers market.
good food!! i liked hushpuppies and fries were okay.
good portion for the price! service was really good too
It's great here again! Order the large and split it.
Plenty of food! Scallops are excellent
Enjoyable restaurant.
Went on a mild Saturday so it was pretty busy. Seating is limited, so you kinda have to fight for a picnic table inside. Food was decent. I ordered the crab cakes and they were ok - a little bland for my taste. The hush puppies were delicious. My husband (who doesn't eat seafood) enjoyed the chicken tenders, which is a nice option for those that don't like seafood. The rest of our party ordered fried fish and fried shrimp which they all enjoyed. Overall, I would go back and try something different than crab cakes, but I recommend them as a nice little outing.
Had lunch here today.
Very fresh and delicious seafood. Shrimp and scallops were very delicious. But the piece of flounder was a little over cooked. But great food for the money. Was very busy but orders come out fast.
Awesome fish.
Best fried popcorn shrimp I've ever tasted. Enjoyed the catfish also - lightly battered and moist. I got the 2 items meal and it was a massive amount of food. My aunt got the scallops - they were outstanding. Hush puppies are good. Slaw was ok - not my favorite but solid. Fries were good. Great value. Restrooms super clean. Friendly owner/team.
Good fried seafood in large portions.
I find the menu just a little narrow, especially with respect to boiled seafood.
Only hard picnic tables for seating
Seating is no longer feasible for individuals who are unable to sit on a hard picnic table. I would think that anything associated with the NC Department of Agriculture would have taken that into consideration. I have spoken with individuals who say they no longer go there because they are physically unable to sit on wooden picnic tables. I saw several people walk out due to there being no tables with chairs. If I am going to spend $20+ on food, the least one could do is to provide seating that is adequate for people.
