This place is such a gem! When we walked in, a man was picking up a carry-out order and told us this was the best Italian food he'd ever had outside of Italy, and he lived in Rome for eight years, so I was instantly impressed and curious. My experience did not let me down in the slightest: I am just sad I didn't discover it sooner! Everything was fabulous. It's a very laid back and casual dining environment with exceptional food and service. My party and I shared the Insalada Lupa to start: so good! I had the Diavola Sbagliata pizza for my entree, which was outstanding. I ate every bite. My husband had the Gnocchi Gorgonzola Radicchio e Noci, which I sampled several times and was also great (although I must say I liked the pizza better). We shared the cheesecake dessert that was on special, which was awesome. The drink menu was also great. I started with the Limoncello Spritz and then had several glasses of the Montefalco red wine per our server's recommendation, which was very good. The value for what we had was exceptional. I legit cannot wait to come back here! Such a great neighborhood spot.

I've been to Munno 3 times and I have been extremely satisfied!!! Each time I went I had a different dish and let me tell you something...they did not disappoint!!! I had the boar ragu, and the pasta carbonara, and today I had the lasagna. OMG!!! The lasagna was some of the best that I have ever had (and trust me I've had a lot of lasagna). Oh, and did I mention the meatballs...the meatballs!!! Awesome!!! The service was top-notch, the dessert was on point and the atmosphere was very calm and soothing. Next on my list is the pizza. Beyond excited to give those a try because if they are anything like my previous meals, I am beyond excited!!!

Some of the best pizza I've ever had and some of the nicest service I've ever experienced. Wow, those are bold statements but they're true!We started with a round of Negroni Sbagliatos (with Prosecco, of course). We had 2 pizzas with traditional crust and 2 pizzas with a Roman style crust -- we devoured everything. For dessert I had the cheesecake which left this NYer quite impressed. Above all of that, our server was really nice, knowledgeable, attentive, and all around wonderful. Overall, this place is a cute spot with friendly service and great food. It's a hidden gem in Uptown which should not be missed!
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant with amazing food and service! Best
Great restaurant with amazing food and service! Best Italian restaurant in Chicago no question. One of the only restaurants in the US that makes carbonara authentically and is comparable to carbonara in Rome. The Diavola pizza is mouth watering and my favorite wood fire pizza. Writing this review makes me want to go back asap.

My wife Ana and I stopped by for dinner as a walk-in last Friday, September 2nd. we arrived at 6:20pm as was confirmed with the text message on my phone when we were added to the waitlist. What I found interesting was there were 3 empty tables outside and 5 empty tables inside at 6:20. So we waited thinking people with reservations would come and start taking these tables from 6:20 to 6:40, nobody came. Which was frustrating indeed - when the receptionist informed my wife then that ALL those tables were being held for 7pm reservations it was even more frustrating. Had they told us at 6:20 that we would have to wait at least 40 minutes so they could hold these tables, and only if someone didn't show at that time they would have opened a table for us, we would have left immediately and none of this would have been an issue. But instead we waited - and for anyone who has been to Munno knows, having 8 of their tables unused is basically HALF their restaurant space. In the future the restaurant could have done two things differently. 1) Been honest from check-in with us on the wait time and WHY the wait existed (there were no 6:30 or 6:45 reservations) they were holding all these empty tables for at least 40 minutes. Or 2) seat the customer with the expectation/ understanding we would be done in 40/45 minutes. Leaving people waiting and staring at empty tables is not customer friendly. We wound up eating at Fin Sushi that night and we were in and out in 50 minutes. That's all I want to say.

Loved it! Went to catch up with a friend and was not rushed at all. Warm, welcoming environment. I have no photos because it was all talking, eating and drinking. I had the spritz, which is a classic and a great summertime drink. We shared the meatballs as an app. Highly recommend. Then the burrata salad, carbonara pasta, and ragu. The Ragu was the favorite, so much flavor! We then had the tiramisu and olive oil pound cake. Too much food for sure. Now we need to go back for the pizza...
Be the first to ReplyBest thin and authentic wood fired pizzas in the area.
Good wine selection too!! Awesome date night spot

Great dog friendly patio and they take reservations for outside so you can be sure a place for your pup. We loved everything we had, pizzas, the ricotta ravioli and ragu. The chocolate mousse-like dessert was amazing
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely dreamy.
Sat on the nice shady patio, split a bottle of wine, got an amazing prosciutto pizza with a light fluffy crust and pile of burrata on top, and house made pasta. I ate recklessly and left no room for dessert but I have no regrets and the leftover pizza was the best lunch the next day. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I cannot stop talking about this place.
The food is amazing and very authentic. The lightest crust I have ever had in Chicago and the best carbonara I have had.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! It's a hidden gem right in our neighborhood. Every time we come here we're welcomed with warmth, and the food is exceptional, always. Troy, our usual server, is always working hard to provide the best experience every time we go! We look forward to treating ourselves here for date nights whenever we can. 5/5.
Be the first to ReplyJust ordered Munno pizza for takeout tonight.
I will say prices and the pizzas themselves are very similar to the other nearby Neapolitan pizza place and that's not a bad thing. We ordered a margherita pizza and a diavola sbagliata pizza. Both pizzas were tasty. I will say that personally I prefer a bit more, ummm, crust integrity, if you will...but the pizzas were cooked nicely and I know that's just the way this particular style of pizza is. I expected a bit more spice/hot honey with the pizza I got. I was also expecting a bit more meat topping, as well. I am writing this a few hours after I ate half of my diavola pizza and I am still quite hungry. Just realize that eating these pizzas will more than likely not give you that comfy full feeling...unless maybe you eat the entire thing by yourself in one sitting? Either way, if you know what you're expecting and getting and you love tasty and light Neapolitan style pizza then Munno is a great neighborhood stop. If you are hangry and want tasty food that fills you up for a good price, you may want to look elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a wonderful surprise! We have driven passed this
What a wonderful surprise! We have driven passed this restaurant for years and were always curious. So when we made plans to stop at Carol's Pub across the street for Bingo, we booked a reservation for earlier in the night. The tables are spaced out, even given the small dining area. We ordered the pear and walnut salad, the carbonara, diavola pizza, and bufalina pizza. Everything was delicious, but the diavola was my far and away favorite. The serving sizes are generous for the prices, especially the pasta. They also make their pasta in-house. The pizzas are Neapolitan style and I'm going to go ahead and say it beats out Spacca Napoli (another neighborhood Neapolitan pizzeria). It was that good and is probably my new Chicago favorite.

Such great food!!This place is my new favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago!! Our waitress was Otalian and there was another Italian family speaking with her, so from the moment we arrived, we knew it was going to be authentic! The peach salad was huge! (4 portions of an appetizer salad) and the pizzas and gnocchi were incredible!!
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal food, excellent service, gorgeous patio.
What else could you want?We had the carbonara, a pizza with hot honey, and the cake with olive oil and apple and every single bite was fantastic. Our server, Troy, was friendly and attentive and helpfully communicative about what time the kitchen was closing and how quickly we needed to move to get everything we wanted. I'm excited to go back and try everything else on their menu.
Be the first to ReplyWent there to try yet another Bib Gourmand recipient.
Very underwhelmed with the Diavola Sbogliata pizza I ordered. But to be fair, maybe I'm just not a fan of Neopolitan style pizza. Crust was good tasting but sauce was thin and watery and each slice had only two dollops of cheese and one or two slices of soprasetto. Could only taste the honey flavor in one bite. Maybe I should have tried the pasta instead which I believe is homemade but not many pasta options to choose from.

So glad to visit Munno on the other side of Covid, and thrilled to see every table full. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic - compact menu and everything hit the mark. We had the buffalo mozzarella & prosciutto appetizer, the Diavola Sbagliata pizza and ravioli in sage/butter sauce. This pizza has a little spicy honey and it knocked my wife's socks off. Best pizza she has had in a very long time. Ravioli was just as yummy. Haven't had anything with sage/butter in ages. Anyway, it was a great experience. BONUS: You can park in the lot.
Be the first to ReplyWent there for my fiancé's birthday.
Brought us right back to our trip to Italy. The pizza is spot on. The crust... perfection. So authentic and delicious. Homemade pasta was really good too. Server was kind and knowledgeable. This place is the real deal.

Wow, what a gem! This restaurant serves some authentic Italian food. Small but thoughtful menu. We had pasta (fresh, handmade), pizza, salad and dessert. So delicious! Great wine list as well. Can't wait to return.
