🤢 2/5 - My critical review is based mostly on Monterey Fish House's

My critical review is based mostly on Monterey Fish House's way of presenting its menu, which seems challenging at best and scammy at worst. We (my wife and I) I thought it was odd that the waiter listed off six or seven dishes on the "specials" list. ( I had to get him to repeat it again and I saw another male customer roll his eyes as the waiter was running through the long list). We ended up ordering two of the dishes, an artichoke seafood dish (a mix of shrimp, mussels in a white sauce) and a crab ravioli in a red sauce and crab cake dish. This was lunch and the typical entrees like this on the menu were around $30. The waiter never mentioned prices, so we were shocked when we got the bill, for $40 apiece. Total bill, including taxes, tips (2 coffees), was way over $100. No alcoholic drinks of dessert. For LUNCH. First they should cut down the list of "specials." If not, at least print out a little insert, with prices, and add with the menu so customers can see what they're ordering. This way, It feels like they're hiding the prices. The quality of the food was mixed: my wife's artichoke dish was delicious. I wasn't as crazy about my crab ravioli. For $40 I expected something a bit more unique. The setting was nice and cozy but there's no ocean or any kind of view- just a highway. The service was excellent so I left a good tip but we both left with a, uh, bad taste in our mouths. Monterey Fish House should be more transparent if they're going to charge top prices like this and expect customers to return.
