Southern classics
Tasty food in a comfortable space. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Don't miss the classics: gumbo, collards, peach cobbler, and banana pudding.

I ordered the fried chicken, mac& cheese, collard greens, gumbo soup..the most delicous food I've eaten in a long time; the staff was amazing & I met Miss Norma Jean personally such a humble and genuinely nice person; I also ordered take out (fried chicken , mac & cheese & collard greens for my son to try & oxtails with mac & cheese with collard greens for me to take to work for the next day & the amazing peach cobler for dessert; I will definitely be coming back & spreading the word of such amazing food & dessert. I went tonight with my family. One waiter and one cook. Unless Ms. Mamie is a white male, Ms. Mamie doesn't own or operate this restaurant. The food was cold and we waited longer than was reasonable for water, soda and even the food. The seafood gumbo was a cold lump-not barely warm by any measure. The cornbread was good but also cold served with frozen butter. I had a fish sandwich and mac and cheese. My mac and cheese was luke warm while my brothers was piping hot. His spinach lacked any flavor- not salt, not pepper only oil. The fish, popcorn, shrimp, and salmon was good. The meatloaf not good at all. Overall I do not recommend
Be the first to ReplyTasty food, generous portion. Service needs to be improved.
I’ve had the sampler plate. The portions were very generous and really tasty. But it took too long to be served and was cold.

I ordered takeout through the restaurant's own web site, a fish sandwich and seafood gumbo. I received a confirmation email from the restaurant. When I arrived, the pleasant young lady handling the entire restaurant had no record of my order. Annoying but these things happen. When my order was finally ready, I found the the gumbo had only salt for flavor. Too much salt. The fried fish in my sandwich was a nice piece of catfish, but there was absolutely no flavor at all in the breading. I live in the neighborhood, but I won't be going back.

Felt right at home with Miss Mamie! Owner so friendly, staff helpful, and food was DELICIOUS. I recommend the fried shrimp and plantains.

We ate lunch here on a cold Sunday afternoon. The service was exemplary, and the fried chicken, collards, ribs, and desserts were amazing! Our server made great rum punch, and he was so kind even giving me extra chicken to take back to our hotel. It really made our trip special and this food reminded me of my North Carolina roots. Simply the best!

Came here for dinner and very little had changed in the 10 years since I was last here - even the person who served us was the same! Hubby had the North Carolina BBQ ribs with mac and cheese and french fries ($19.95) which were so tasty. The only slight disappointment was that the mac and cheese used to be so thick you would cut a slice of it out of a tray, but now it's a much more soft, liquid version. Soda was $3.50. I had the Miss Mamies Sampler which came with the North Carolina ribs, the beef ribs, the fried chicken and fried shrimp, all of which was delicious, although I was so full I struggled to each the chicken. I also had the cornbread which was warm and delicious, the collard greens which were spicy and fab, and the spinach which was also good. Enjoyed the whole thing.

Have been several times since I live in the neighborhood. So many dishes I still want to try but definitely can’t miss with their signature chicken, smothered pork chops (so big we only ordered one which was perfect!) and my favorite is the short ribs. Each entree come with two classic sides - I’ve had almost all and love the potato salad, garlic spinach, Mac n cheese, and cabbage cooked with lots of flavor. Miss Mamies has all the classics you’d like, but unfortunately they said spoonbread is only for special occasions. Maybe bringing a large group might be special? I’ll be going back for sure. Warm welcome , the slow service makes you slow your adrenaline down and get ready for generous portions of home cooking. So far, I’ve never had room for dessert yet. But am looking forward to the coconut cake next time!!

Spoonbread Too has been my “go to” restaurant in Harlem for years. Last week I ordered takeout. Normally, they show you your plated orders before they are wrapped. They didn’t so I asked to see the order. Noticing the sides were a bit skimpy, I requested the portion be adjusted slightly. The manager refused. So I inquired as to whether a change in management had occurred; they said no (BTW, none of the faces were familiar to me). Given the manager’s response, the cost of the meal, and my level of discomfort with the order, Spoonbread’s Too has lost my patronage.

Get yourself down or up to Morningside Heights and have your own Soul Food Jamboree. Lively checked tablecloths, funky decor, friendly staff- even a piano in the corner- and music one night a week. Brunch menu...The food is outta this world. Delectable fried catfish- and not to be beat home southern fried chicken. Choice of luscious fries- like collards, rice and beans, and the like. Excellent wheat beers and wine- served with warm corn bread and butter....this place is not for dieters- but you could manage if you watch your calories- want to eat the way your momma used to cook? Mamie's got a table fer you and yours!

Last night's visit was my second and won't be the last. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. The food is excellent soul food, and they seem to have specials often. Last night it was half-price beer or wine if you ordered seafood. The time before it was two desserts for the price of one. The portions are large and really good, so the reasonable prices are close to being a bargain, since there's food to take home for the next day's lunch. The fried chicken and the fried catfish are real standouts, as is the iced tea. I don't know why there aren't more recent reviews on TA, so I thought I should write one.
