This is probably the best quality sushi that I have tried
This is probably the best quality sushi that I have tried on the West Coast. I love that there are also some locations in the Toronto area if you're looking for something consistent in terms of the quality. I think there are certain items that are extremely high quality, such as all the sashimi pieces or all the fresh sushi. I did really enjoy the sushi with truffles, and it had a really interesting flavor. I would probably skip the torched sushi, as I think you can get this other places are much lower price. I would definitely splurge more on the items were you can truly taste the quality of the seafood such as the more simple itemsExtremely difficult to get a table, but is well worth it. The service is truly impeccable. The restaurant is very clean, but nothing special visually. There's very comfortable seating with large space in between each table so you feel like you're having very intimate experience.

Where else can you get chinook salmon sashimi? Pretty indelible

Amazing lunch & happy hour menu!! This place was recommended to us by a friend who is a chef, and it was sooo good! We came in right at the end of lunch/beginning of happy hour, so our server was nice enough to let us order from both menus since we stayed long enough. We got some Uni at market price ($19/ea) which was incredible! Uni is always worth it. As well as some scallops, miso soup, champagne roll, and samplers! Everything was amazing. Will absolutely be back if I'm ever in the Vancouver area again, and recommend this place to all my friends!
Be the first to ReplyI arrived at 5pm and the restaurant was 90% empty.
I don't know why they sat me here. Probably want to save the nicer ones for reservations? But please, just change those ugly seats! No one deserves to have flakes sick on their trousers after dining in a $$$ restaurant, with or without reservation.

Had their 45 Minami Zen. Was very impressed with all their dishes, presentation, taste and perfectly cooked or prepared. I also love the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. It was busy and electric! Service was very efficient and friendly. Would love to try their regular menu down the road. Kudos to the team for this fabulous menu. Count me as a big fan!

If you're looking to try some aburi sushi, you should definitely check out this restaurant! I got the oshi sampler which was great because I was able to try three different types. They were all really good but my favorite of the three was salmon. It's a bit pricey but the quality of the food makes it worth it. The service staff were also friendly and attentive!

Ordered Aburi Take out after having eaten at their sister restaurant Miku. Everything was delicious! Pick up was easy. We got 6 items and everything was packaged beautifully, although the dessert presentation wasn't as good as it would be in a restaurant.I liked every single thing that we got. The Salmon Oshi Sushi was one of my favorites. The seasoning and searing is perfection. The Kaisen Donburi was delicious and had an excellent assortment of fresh fish. The Champagne Roll, King Salmon Roll and Negitoro Make were also good.I liked the Orange Ginger Cake dessert, but my wife thought it was too spicy and "challenging" to eat. I will agree that the calabrian chili was very forward, but I liked the punchiness and character of the dish. Not for a timid stomach though. The orange curd flavor was stronger than the ginger. I did wish there had been more ginger and less chili. All together, our meal was $120 (including tax and tip) and we had enough for two adults and a toddler, with some leftovers. I wouldn't mind ordering from here again!

We came here and mostly ordered the course menus which included a variety of dishes. They discouraged us from a few ordering from the course menu and a few ordering a la carte. The service was very friendly and they were clearly very professional and knowledgeable. The ambiance was nice, not too loud and still lively. The whole course menu took a total of 3 hours to complete, however, which was not ideal.
Be the first to ReplyA cute little place in the heart of Yaletown.
Came here for their happy hour menu - so my review may not be fully representative of their full menu experience. The aburi sushi were all good (to be fair, I can't really tell what is good aburi and what isn't). Just tasted like Miku and every other place. The fried chicken was pretty soggy and not crispy at all. Pretty disappointed by this dish.Of the three specialty rolls, the only one that was good was the one with scallops (champagne roll?). The other two are a hard pass. Finally the green tea opera... just no... this is like a dollar store version of the real deal (what you get at Miku). It's a good place... but not worth the full menu price if it is anything close to the happy hour experience.
Be the first to ReplyNice restaurant.
Sushi was good. First time having this type of sushi and it was worth it.

Don't know why there is such a fuss over Aburizushi, but this place and Miku always seem to be full of people raving about it. I really prefer traditional nigiri, better fish to rice ratio...Minami is a big restaurant, very busy, very professional. A little cold and impersonal....my opinion. Part of the Japanese dining experience is Omotenashi, right? That is missing here. But, all that said, the Squid Katsu was killer, a showstopper. Worth the price of admission. I'd go back and have just that!Tofu Salad made our veg friends very happy, as did the fried brussel sprouts and Mentaiko Udon.Nice meal, but its gotten a little too expensive for what they offer.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a well-known sushi spot.
It's a bit pricey, but few people know about the happy hour, which is the best value relative to the regular menu. The menu has a good amount of options on the happy hour though the small plate options are pretty basic eg. Edamame, miso soup. Portions could be bigger. The brussel sprout chips are really roasted or pan fried brussels and not actual "chips", but still tasty. The specialty rolls and oshi rolls were decent as expected. They do give a fair amount of ginger as the sushi garnish. In terms of service, there is an umbrella check for rainy days. I was seated right away, and the waiter came over promptly with water and checked on us periodically.

We had a nice dinner here. Definitely for a splurge night, not sure if I'd go regularly but nice for a special occasion

What a lovely celebration we had here for my brother and mom's birthdays! The staff and food made this experience an absolute delight and I will happily recommend this place to anybody visiting Vancouver. Food: my brother was in charge of ordering and did a fine job of getting our table an array of sushi, seared fish- aburi, entrees, and drinks. See pictures for a sampling of the deliciousness. The only dish I didn't love was the udon. I had been hoping for something soupier, but this was a pan fried noodle dish that just didn't stand out. The highlight was the dessert: the green tea opera cake was phenomenal. Both airy and decadent, it's a must order. Drinks: we ordered a couple of the cocktails, their non alcoholic cocktails, and a can of ginger tea. The flavour of my shiso mojito was good, but I couldn't taste any alcohol. You're better off saving your money and getting the virgin version of this... the shiso nojito. I love a good pun. Service: I was pleasantly surprised by how great the service was! I always found Vancouver to be hit or miss, but Minami's staff hit it out of the park with this birthday celebration. One of the servers brought out a plate of uni with a candle when we told her it was my brother's birthday. This is a great place for good food and good service. It was a tad pricey for the serving size, but given the location, it's to be expected. Will return... with the husband, who I had to unfortunately leave behind on this trip.

I'm really craving the amazing sushi I had at Minami! The ABURI sushi was so fresh, each bite was a savored moment and the flame seared adds an enhanced texture to the sushi. The pressed sushi shape also gives it a unique form! I got the Oshi Sampler which comes with 2 pcs of salmon, ebi, and saba oshi. They were all honestly so delicious and flavorful! The Red Wave Roll is a more traditional sushi roll and it was just as delicious, the fish and flavor were amazing. It includes Canadian rock crab, avocado, red tuna, and masatake sauce. There is paid street parking right in front of the restaurant and our hostess was very friendly and welcoming. If you're looking to try ABURI sushi some fresh fish, Minami is a great stop in Vancouver.
Be the first to ReplyMinami is always a sure bet to take out of town guests.
I always order the signature sampler which is quite a good deal and you get to sample the menu! a few at the table tried their lychee martini, one said the one their husband makes at home is comparable. Brussel sprouts chips were so simple yet delectable; we had to get a second order. Their sushi rice is top notch. Every grain is individual but sticks well together w the others, if that makes sense. Hotate is super fresh. The rolls are very flavourful and the roe always makes an impact. I always look forward to having ebi here when that's the last piece of sushi I go for anywhere. The toppings on some of the nigiri really elevate the pieces. The salmon Oshi is wonderful but a lot of places in town have replicated it pretty well. Service was mediocre and I'd expect a lot more at this price point. If I didn't go to another "finer" dining joint so soon after for comparison, I wouldn't have commented.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a great place to take clients out for lunch.
Trendy, great food and ambiance
Be the first to ReplyEvery dish was exquisite.
There was a dish for everyone including non sushi eaters. My son loved his ribeye and my daughter loved her soba noodles. We enjoyed the fresh sashimi and appetizers. We will be back if ever visiting Vancouver again.
Be the first to ReplyThe food, ambience and service is pretty good.
Definitely considered as fine dinning. Their happy hour menu is decent.I really enjoyed their sushi. Known for their oshi/aburi, I would have to admit that this is the best inn town. The Brussel sprout chips were good to have as bites, but i am not sure i would order this again. Forgot to take the photo of the Brussel sprouts.I was not as impressed with the peach hojicha sorbet as I was with their sushi, but it was still well-presented.I would most likely come back and definitely try other happy hour menu options.

We came here on our last full day in Vancouver! We decided to try out some of the fresh sushi around the area, and we heard some good things about Minami. The wait time around 1:00 PM was about 30 minutes long before we can get a seat without a reservation. Food: I went for the lunch Premium Set ($31.00 CAD) and my girlfriend got the Minami Preimum Zen ($45.00 CAD). I was not very hungry at this time, so I went for a light set which I had difficulties finishing because the aburi sushi was pretty heavy. My set also came with a miso soup which tasted typical to other resturant that I have been to . The sushi set was very good and wish I came here with an empty stomach to truly enjoy it. The lunch premium set only comes with miso soup, 6 pieces of nigri, and 6 pieces of aburi sushi (they are known for). If you are very hungry and want the full experience, then get the Minami Premium Zen because it comes with miso soup, 3 other appetizers, and 8 pieces of sushi.Service: The service was average, they made a few mistakes and did take a while to put our order in. But overall it was good.Overall: I would recommend coming here! But next time with an empty stomache!

Hands down the absolute BEST sushi I've had in my entire life. I was visiting Vancouver and was recommended this spot by a friend, and was lucky enough to make a reservation the night before. We found street parking outside pretty easily and were seated quickly once being checked in. They gave us a whole booth which could've seated around 8-10 people just for us two, which was interesting but quite nice. We ordered the champagne roll, red wave roll, and salmon oshi sushi. This was my first time having pressed sushi, so I was also super excited about that! All three arrived on the same platter and were presented beautifully. Not only that, they were all SO GOOD. I never wanted it to end. The champagne roll had creamy scallops on top and the golden tobiko it was rolled in added such a nice texture. The red wave roll had super fresh tuna and Canadian rock crab, and the masatake sauce they put on top was literally perfect. Finally, the salmon on the oshi sushi was so fresh, soft, and tasty and in combination with the jalapeño and Miku sauce it made a perfect bite. I was so so happy with all the sushi and am kind of sad to think I probably won't have anything better. Overall, I had a super great experience here! Our waitress was very friendly and the fold was absolutely to die for. Prices also were not unreasonable at all, and I would gladly come back if I'm ever in the area again. I'd highly recommend this spot to anyone!
Be the first to ReplyAte here for supper on a Friday night based on our hotel
Ate here for supper on a Friday night based on our hotel concierge's recommendation. She called it her favourite sushi place but warned us she couldn't get reservations for another couple earlier that week and it might be hard to get in. Checked their website and we must have gotten lucky with a cancellation because snagged a spot. At 7:00 PM at that! This was the best sushi I've had outside of Taiwan and Japan, other than Tojo's. It was incredible from start to finish. Waaaaayyy superior to Miku with a similar price point. My husband had the Minami Shokai set menu for $150. But I wanted to try their tartar so had that along with The Signature Selection plate which looked and felt like a tray of Christmas presents. Well, Christmas if you worship at the alter of sushi. Everything we ate felt subtle but flavourful, with beautiful rice and thoughtful garnishes that added to your bite. From the delicate fried noodles served with the tartar (I'm so sorry I didn't take a picture of this dish, it was lovely) to the tiny spoon of sorbet to cleanse your palate and the finale of dessert that I had no intention of eating, I was so full. But yeah, I ate the whole thing. Attentive and knowledgeable service but without being over bearing. A bar like, trendy vibe suitable for Yaletown (so could be noisy if you're an old geezer like me). But didn't care, the food was worth the noise. Particularly impressed me with their Aburi Oshi - I don't like smoke in/on my food. But their smoke was a light touch, very present but subtle.
