Mexican Sugar Dallas Reviews from The Last Year
Everything! First being seen and greeted unbeknownst to us
Everything! First being seen and greeted unbeknownst to us by the bar manager that recommended to receive happy hour prices we must order from the bar. Jen took such good care of us, making sure our waters stayed refill and making sure we stayed hydrated. The Brasas Chicken Tacos, Cilantro Lime Rice has a little spice not too much to give it a great flavor and Black Beans late seasoned and cooked well. The Shrimp Avocado & Lime, Carne Asada Tacos could not try as I am too full to try so I will take it home. I love the music! Cleanliness and aesthetics. There are two levels and a nice size patio. I will definitely be back!!!

I was here with some friends to start off my birthday weekend!! Great ambience. We had drinks at the upstairs bar which were all good. The La Catarina was my favorite. I ordered the bone-in pork chop and it was sooo flipping good! Hands down the best I've had at a restaurant!! I will be back for the lobster ravioli and more drinks :) They validate garage parking.

Wow! This place was great for lunch with very beautiful interior. I loved everything. The vibe, the margaritas, the aesthetic, the food! We were lucky enough to grab a drink at the bar while waiting for our reservation. I can appreciate a true full service experience. See below for my review on what matters. Margaritas: just pick one, anyone. They're all wonderful and strong. This was the group consensus. ;) Food: can't go wrong with enchiladas or fajitas. Knock 1/2 star because my taco tortillas fell apart while trying to consume. .. ended up eating them with a fork because I'm classy lady. We all enjoyed the flavors, not too rich but indeed seasoned. Free chips and salsa!

The atmosphere is super cute and had a great view on the second floor, service was SO fast which was perfect for us as we were headed to a show after dinner, and food/cocktails were great! I loved how cute the adorable tiny sopes were - everything was very grammable.

We had brunch at Mexican Sugar in Uptown Dallas and it was AMAZING! The ambiance was so cute and the service was nice! We enjoyed the lobster queso fundido as an appetizer and it was really good paired with the house made tortillas! As an entree I enjoyed the bass ceviche while my mother in law enjoyed the hamburger with eggs, and my sister in law enjoyed the ranchero eggs benedict! All of which were amazing!!!! The star of the show was the French toast!!! Coated with whip cream and fresh fruit! It was the perfect way to end our meal! We did get the 36$ pitcher of mimosas to share and it served 3 people approx 2 drinks each which was great! The presentation was also very cute!! Overall a great experience and will be going back to try out the dinner!

My friend and I decided to try out Mexican Sugar and we came on a Sunday (they serve brunch on weekends). You're able to park in the parking garage for free (as long as you get your ticket verified through the restaurant), valet was $15. The restaurant is nicely designed and we were seated on the bottom level. I can say it was a little warm in the restaurant but the weather has been overly hot lately. The customer service was a little lackluster as we had to ask for tableware, napkins, and straws (multiple times before we got it). The service remained the same throughout. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and enjoyed it! The drink was made nicely and hit the spot. For my food, I ordered the chicken enchiladas and it came with rice, beans. The enchiladas were good and tasted like your standard enchilada dish. I also ordered the guacamole + chips and it was just ok. Seemed to have too much lime and was a little too mushy for me. The salsa came out hot along with chips and we enjoyed that! Overall, I would return as I liked the ambience and drinks. Would like to try more of their drinks for sure!

The aesthetic of this place is stunning! I came here for my birthday brunch on a Tuesday, not much movement but came for the drinks & small sopes (by the way delicious!) Our waiter was very attentive. Just wished we were able to sit upstairs but it's only open during dinner. Will come back for the drinks & vibe.

Sat at the bar for happy hour - it was a treat! Our bartender was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Drinks were phenomenal and food was great.
Met up with friends while I was in town.
It's a cool space. It's well lit with a good sized bar. We all ordered the smoked tequila old fashioned, which we all liked but I would have preferred it with less sugar. I also thought they took far too long to make as I wasn't very busy. Our waiter was very nice and did an excellent job highlighting items on the menu. My friends order the pork chop and said it was good. I went with the Marisco Veracruz and loved it.

So we frequent the one in Las Colinas.
While the service is always great there... but today we wanted to venture out and go into Dallas. We sat down right away outside, took 10 minutes and the manager finally approached and said the server would be with us right away. Another 7 months and he finally approached. We ordered our drinks and food right away. Took another 20 minutes to get drinks and another 15-20 to get food. So we sat there for 35 mins before we even got drinks. Server comes by and drops forks but no napkins. I had to ask the manager for it and I complained. Server came up finally with our food and I asked for salt. Never got it. Had to ask the manager for that as well. So I finally paid but we ordered one more round and the server was quiet and rude when dropping it off because he saw I tipped 12%. I'm a tipper when I go out, I work in customer service so do better Michael. I'll never return again. Also the manager needs some work because he was not a good manager.

So far so good! I'm making this review as I sit at the bar, with my lovely bartender/waitress justice! We started off with chips queso and two classic margaritas, which are poured from the tap, and let me tell you... they are strong as hell! even my bf who's a drinker agreed! Next was the food we had a whole fried snapper and barria ribs! Service was immaculate we had fun and can't wait to come back!
The service was amazing and everything we had was great.
Carne asada tacos were perfect. The coconut tres leches was worth trying. The decor was beautiful and very chic.
Beautiful decor and layout; nice and clean.
Good party atmosphere but not too loud. Music was a touch too loud but we adjusted. Service was professional and just the right amount of attention. Food was good, not great: I had the Carne Asada Tacos w/rice and beans. Meat was tender and corn shells were homemade. Rice and beans were just OK. I also tasted the Chicken Enchiladas and the Chicken Tacos. Meat was nicely flavored and tender. We also had the Queso Blanco with plenty of chips and salsa. The touch of guacamole was delightful. I didn't make it upstairs but seemed like another bar and dining room. Just FYI, I had a real hard time digesting this meal (no illness); maybe the corn tortillas as I rarely eat them.
Best Mexican food & margs I've ever had.
Hands down. Restaurant was incredibly loud & noisy, but we were seated on the quiet patio with a incredibly attentive waitress. Our wait even with a reservation on a Friday night ended up being about 45 minutes, but once we sat down our food was extremely fast. Would and will always recommend!!!

Stopped by this evening without reservations but clearly not super busy. Host proceeded to recite a generic phrase about wait times and no reservations blah-blah. We went ahead and waited 50 minutes (35 minutes was the approximate) no call no nothing we were outside the restaurant waiting. Heck I'm still waiting let me know when the table is ready..... almost like they are told to discriminate on the Mexicans or similar leaving the open space for the rest of the population The Mexican than won't ever go back
This place is so nice.
I would say I do not like beans at all but I dream about their refried beans. They are so good the hibiscus margarita is also really good. The waiters are really nice and quick. I 10/10 would recommend especially wig you like a rooftop vibe they have a place you can sit outside downstairs and upstairs and it is beautiful!
Fantastic restaurant - we had the absolute best service
Fantastic restaurant - we had the absolute best service from Tracy! She was an absolute guru on the menu, drinks - you name it, she knew it. Our dinner was extremely enjoyable as the food was excellent and Tracy was an absolute gem! This girl needs to be running the restaurant, seriously. I have encountered many servers in my time but, never anyone as delightful and knowledgeable regarding the restaurant's food/drink items.
Average food and service
Sunday lunch. Despite several servers standing around and the place not being that busy, we waited close to 10 minutes for chips and drinks. My wife got a salad, and I got the chicken enchiladas. Frankly, they just weren't that good. On par with El Fenix. (We are local and have Tex-Mex 1-2x per week.) I'd also suggest Mexican Sugar replace its curved plates with flat ones. Mine looked too much like a big dog dish. Service was fairly attentive, but I didn't appreciate the server hovering over me while I determined the tip. The 20% minimum was pretty generous in this case. And fair warning: don't take the Olive Street exit. It's way too narrow. You'll either scrape your bumper or a rim, as I did. Taken together, we won't be returning.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
