Outstanding value
This is a superb restaurant in every way. We have come down from Cheshire 5 or 6 times over the last few years and it always ticks all the boxes. The set menus allow a surprising range of choices from the menu (two Mich-starred London restaurants we know of offer only two set menu choices for starter and main). One very important attribute is the quality of the acoustics. It never seems noisy and it's always possible to have a very jolly and chatty lunch independent of other tables. Each table seems to have its own private space. Service from all the staff is very pleasant and professional without being stuffy. There is a good range of interesting and reasonably priced wines and you also can BYO. Even with the corkage fee, that can make for a splendid meal at a bargain price.

Excellent lunch. Brill, monkfish and steak all extremely good. Crab ravioli and duck egg tart starters excellent too. Deserts were stunning and a very good cheeseboard. The wine list is good and the menu is brilliant. Service is efficient and friendly. All in all a first class meal and a restaurant we’d heartily recommend. We’ll definitely be back

What an amazing find! We went here for our wedding anniversary and what a treat it was. The decor is fabulous, the service spot on and the food just sublime. I also had the best French 75 I’ve ever had! I would go back again (and again).

Lunched on a blustery Monday and Medlar was buzzing. Service was exemplary - discreet, knowledgeable and the good type of friendly. The crab starter was a most enjoyable opening salvo but the star of the show was the beef. Utterly outstanding. Order a side of the thickest chips you'll ever see and prepare to enter food heaven. Dessert was a deconstructed pineapple affair with little treats to follow. My new favourite spot in London. Go and thank me later an absolute 10/10!
Be the first to ReplyCharming Chelsea Restaurant
My husband and I had a lovely, memorable dinner on our first night in London. Medlar is a neighborhood French bistro in Chelsea. The room has a comfortable ambiance and the service is friendly and helpful. The menu selection is an interesting blend of delicious ingredients and flavors and well-priced. You can opt for a one-course, two-course, or three-course meal. I had the Barkham blue, beetroot ,pear, and onion tartlet and my husband the crab raviolo. For mains we had Cornish Brill fish and Cornfed chicken. All delicious as well as the deserts. The wine selection both by the glass and bottle is interesting and affordable with a knowledgeable sommelier. I highly recommend Medlar!!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect evening
I visited Medlar for an early dinner yesterday evening with my partner and his brother. We were given a booth for four, which felt quite private and cosy. I had crab raviolo with brown shrimps, samphire and bisque sauce while my partner and his brother each chose a different tart (one with blue cheese and pear, the other with duck egg). For our main courses I chose boudin of cornfed chicken with spinach gnocchi, spätzle and fried chicken wings, my partner chose rump of beef with café de paris snails and béarnaise sauce and his brother had chargrilled monkfish and squid with Japanese vegetables. Only two of us had dessert - I chose warm chocolate mousse and salted caramel tart (mousse was on top of the tart, which wasn't clear from the description) with milk ice cream and candied pecans, and my partner's brother chose the rhubarb cheesecake. The starters were equally good in their different ways, the chicken and beef were probably the outstanding main courses and the rhubarb cheesecake the best (at least, most interesting) dessert. Coffee came with delicious passionfruit marshmallows and chocolate truffles. We shared a carafe of Viognier with our starters (this went perfectly with my crab raviolo and boudin of chicken) and my partner and his brother then ordered different red wines by the glass and a recommended dessert wine to accompany the rhubarb cheesecake. Service was friendly but not at all obtrusive. The only thing that could have been better in my view (though it wasn't bad) was the bread. We will definitely return.

We enjoyed absolutely everything about this restaurant. From the welcome to the focaccia bread, the incredible crab ravioli to the boudin of corn fed chicken and the beautifully presented quail nothing could have been better. And I haven’t even started on the desserts and the perfect service. Thank you so much to all the team. Can’t wait to come back to London and stroll up the Kings Road for lunch again.

We had dinner here and when we were done I thanked the head waiter saying "I have not eaten so well and experienced such good in a long time". The service was just spot on. Attentive, friendly, drinks were topped up on time, useful recommendations given. Just the way it should be - and isnt in so many restaurants. I particularly liked that kids food was offered right away instead of the waiter suggesting my two teenagers should take the full menu. The kids food was so well cooked I could have easily just finished their meals and left happily. But the adult food was even better. Just really, really well cooked and flavored. The crab raviolo iI will remember forever. Just perfect. Very appropriate pricing, good wine menu and just GBP 15 for the kids food was just another sign of hospitality. Thank you.

We came to Medlar recently for the first time and a totally enjoyable experience? The restaurant interior is delightful and we were greeted warmly. Throughout, the service was highly professional and helpful in a friendly laid back manner. The dishes were original and well cooked and presented most attractively. This was certainly Michelin star quality food. The cost was most reasonable and we would recommend this restaurant without qualification - and look forward to returning.

Incredibly flavoured dishes. Great variety. Good sized portions. Sommelier had good knowledge and made suggestions for you to try and choose. The decor and ambiance is calm relaxed and elegant. Service was just excellent. They took care of small fans for the table and moved us inside when sitting in outside in the sun became uncomfortable.

This was our second Sunday evening visit this year, and, if anything, we enjoyed it still more. Moved straight to the mains - perfectly cooked and presented calf’s liver and rump of lamb. Then the cheeseboard and a vibrant raspberry sorbet. Plus a complimentary beignet as it was my birthday. For cooking and service of this standard, £45 for two courses, £50 for three represents excellent value.
Be the first to ReplyOriginal, exciting, generous - A pleasure
We dined here on a Tuesday evening. The reviews and original, exciting menu had attracted us initially. We were not disappointed. We struggled to choose from an ample selection of both starters and main courses. The offerings were novel, inventive and exciting. They had a wide range of wines of varying prices from decent entry level wines up to an including some very high end offerings. Service (our waiter - Santiago) was efficient, professional and informal and not intrusive. A must try, and somewhere we will definitely return to. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyGood, but avoid the tables outside.
A fair run from the centre of London and not the most attractive area. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was good, but for me my starter of crispy calf's brain was spoilt by a sour sauce. which was overpowering. The beef was very nice too. One thing to note is not to sit outside, we were accosted more than once by people begging for money. Which is not nice. We had read great reviews and that is why we went here to dine. The food was good. But not good enough to return.

Medlar is the place for when the London food lover is in the mood neither for gimmicks and jarring novelties on the one hand, nor for pomposity on the other, but just for a mature cuisine of simply good ingredients, cooked with confidence and immaculate technique. I love liver, but I find poor or poorly cooked liver revolting. I rarely order it, and only in a few trusted restaurants. Medlar belongs to this elite. This time again my trust was well placed: the piece of lovely meat was perfectly grilled, coming with a wealth of aptly chosen garnishes: new season garlic, Tropea onion, chard, potato galette, all suffused in a very light vinegary sharpness. Equally delicious and precisely cooked was another main of stuffed Guinea Fowl, again enriched by a treasure-trove of garnishes (a vegetarian dish in themselves): yellow wax beans (me neither: think "yellow green beans"), ricotta dumplings, salsa verde, artichokes and (I think) parsnip puree. The starters could not have been more Summery and refreshing. One was a chilled courgette and chervil soup with fresh almonds, thin apple slices and home smoked mackerel rillette on toast, this last item in truth possibly the only dud of the day, as it did not deliver on intensity of taste. The other starter on the other hand was simply perfect: a tartare of sea trout tartare with pea and broad bean gazpacho and oyster beignet. A dessert of Apricot beignet with roast apricots, honey, toasted flaked almonds and crème fraiche ice cream was good, and the selection of cheeses from which we chose was interesting, the cheeses in excellent form. Prices at lunch are very reasonable: currently 45 for 3 courses (small supplement for cheeses instead of dessert), but be prepared to pay a substantial premium for dinner. Reasonably priced wine list too. Beside quality, to note a sense of generosity, in portions and other details. Service (this time mostly Italian) was super-efficient and polite yet discreet and not over-eager to please. In sum, Medlar is a study in the sheer craft of cooking with joy, never gimmicky but also never even getting close to banality. Any young chef with any kind of ambition should eat here at least once, learn and remember.

I have been coming to Medlar for some years so decided to celebrate a big birthday in the private room last Sunday. What an absolutely fantastic lunch. My friends are all raving over the food and indeed the service. My daughter bought me a cake and without a murmur it was cut up and put into boxes for my guests to take home. There was no rush to get us away in fact it was 5 pm when we finally left. Five hours of sheer delight. If you haven’t been yet you really really must. Amazing all the way. Thank you Medlar

We had never been here before as it’s not particularly close to us. But we had to go to an event nearby, hence booking Medlar. We loved it. Very good food, fantastic friendly service, humour and charm and professionalism combined. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyA very special restaurant
My wife and I have been trying to get a table at this lovely restaurant for about a year, but always found it fully booked! Having finally secured a table last night we can see why it is so popular. The food was every bit as delicious as we expected it to be, in fact better. The service was outstanding, never overbearing but always professional and attentive. The whole front of house team worked valiantly to make our dining experience exceptional. We will certainly be back, but will most probably have to book massively in advance to secure a table in this remarkable restaurant. Thank you all and well done.

Delightful food, bursting with flavours, good, if rather expensive, wine and friendly, efficient service. Sunday dinner at £50 for three courses is very good value for cooking of this standard.

Two of us enjoyed the set lunch menu of £35 for two courses- lovely fresh ceviche followed by grilled fish and beef cheeks. Excellent bread on the side. A glass of wine each totalled £28! But coffee and home made truffles rounded it off and dessert wasn’t needed! Friendly service.
Be the first to ReplyTop notch Sunday lunch
It's not a traditional Sunday lunch. That just happened to be the day I visited. It's a table d'hote menu and the choice was so good I had trouble selecting. There were 4 of us and we ordered several different dishes. Each one was beautifully cooked and presented. Service was excellent and the wine list is very reasonable, given we are on King's Road, Chelsea. This was the best meal I'd had in London for a long time.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding and 100% memorable
One of the best meals we have ever enjoyed in London. Medlar had been recommended to us. The food was quite simply outstanding in every way - delicious and well presented. Not cheap, especially with the inflated wine prices that are the hallmark of all London restaurants nowadays (and on top of them you pay 12.5% service charge!). However, very well worth it.

If you are looking for a great supper in West London , then Medlar is the place to go . Food , location and staff all fantastic. A cheese board that is just scummy , brilliant evening .
Be the first to ReplyLovely food and brilliant staff
We came here to celebrate my birthday. The food was lovely, however I wanted to leave a review commenting on how professional, yet lovely the staff were! From the waiter who sang a solo happy birthday rendition to the absolute treat of extra homemade marshmallows...(they were delicious) received from the waiter who took on board our (positive) feedback!
Thank you so much to all the staff here, it was a lovely birthday meal/experience!
Excellent night out for dinner
Excellent food, back to basics dishes that are really good quality. Great service and attentive waiters, this restaurant felt very much at home.
Will certainly come back!
