An enormous disappointment
The menu is great and the reviews equally optimistic. So I arrived with high hopes. Since the restaurant is priced for top quality fish, those were my expectations. I ordered a wide variety: Aji, Ahima aji, Hirame, Kampachi, Red Snapperas well as the usual blue fin tuna, fresh salmon, and Hamachi. With exception of the blue fin tuna all were bland and even "fishy." Some were ordered sashimi and others as negiri. As my custom, I ordered Santa Barbara Uni for desert. It was top quality and outstanding. Were it not for the great finish to the meal, I would have only awarded one star. The service was good and the wait staff polite.

Firstly, the staff did everything correctly for these strange times. Protective gear, masks, space, temperatures. We were the only group dining in. The sushi was excellent, fresh, delicious, and hamachi collar was available. The seaweed salads, sushi, rolls were some of the best I have eaten in LA. Prices were also somewhat more reasonable. Go and eat - clever separation, attentive staff

Love this place! Have been coming for over 20 years since its prior incarnation, Hirozen. Same chef, who now owns the restaurant. Delicious and fresh sushi and other wonderful authentic and inventive Japanese dishes that you don't typically find at other Japanese restaurants. It's our go-to family restaurant to celebrate milestones because we love it so much.

We stumbled upon this wonderful find, surprisingly located in a strip mall, but don't let that fool you! Fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi, including rare and exotic options are offered. Fresh fish is flown in overnight from Tokyo's Tsukiji Market and artistically prepared and presented. Extremely good service with an overabundance of waitstaff. Traditional Japanese ambience. Overall, a wonderful gem!

Been coming to this Beverly Hills strip mall sushi gem for last 2 years .
Itโs my must go stop whenever in town .
For me , itโs all about the unique fresh negri sushi variety . Yes Unique freshest
variety is key.
Dorothy this ainโt KANSAS . Its not about the California rolls...but Tasmanian sea trout
Japanese glass shrimp...or Japanese halibut negri .
Sit at the small bar ....first come first serve and go OMAKASE ..
whereby the chef feeds you at his whim . Although you can give some guidance to any
Dislikes.
Great entrees and hot misou soup.....like chicken soup for the soul & my bad cold ! Divine.
Atmosphere is clean simple and unpretentious. Maybe seating for 20-25.
Yes I am a fan ....a total shill for this shrine to simple but excellent Tokyo fresh fish market treats . Omakase dinner not cheap....but quality and variety worth the splurge.
Wonderful!
The sushi and additional dishes were marvelous- fresh, delicious to the stomach and to the eye! The atmosphere is high energy & wonderful.

What made Hirozen amazing was head sushi chef Matsumoto, who recently purchased the restaurant and hung a new banner. Chef continues his 16 year tradition of delivering simply the best sushi found anywhere, period. I've had sushi in almost every town around the globe and nothing comes close. Your best bet - Omakase! You will hear, "no soy sauce", with each dish - allowing you to taste the subtleness of flavors in the fish. He meticulously and perfectly dresses each piece of sushi, creating a flavor explosion in your mouth. He pairs each set of pieces to compliment one another, but each with their own flavor profile.
I have been "leaving it up to" Chef Matsumoto for 15 years, and each experience tops the prior...I've never experienced better - anywhere in the world!
Best Sushi I've Ever Had
We do not live in Los Angeles, but my sister-in-law, who does live in L.A. treats us every time we visit her, and has been for some years. I cannot say enough about the quality of the sushi, the flavors, the creative but subtle sauces that enhance rather than overwhelm the fish, the nice selection of premium sake, and lovely atmosphere. This is a small place, so if you want to sit at the sushi bar, get there early. I think there's only 9 or 10 seats. Also if you're on a budget be aware this sushi is a bit pricey, still...if you go, you won't be sorry! Worth every penny.
