We went to Mastro's steakhouse in Costa Mesa for Valentine's Day and it was very good but not great. The food was excellent and so was the service, however the relatively open layout of the place and small waiting area left a lot to be desired. The ribeye was outstanding and came highly recommended and did not disappoint as it was juicy and well seasoned and the sides were equally fantastic and made great leftovers :) However, how the restaurant was set up made it difficult to wait for a table without inconveniencing the servers and host staff trying to do their job. There was little seating up front so most people waiting had to wait in between two dining areas were servers were constantly trying to maneuver around us with some very hot plates. It is my sincere hope that consideration is made to removing a few tables to allow more space for people to wait (especially in the event of inclement weather or overbooking guests)

A friend recently celebrated his birthday at Mastros and it was AHHHMAZING! We had steak and it was perfectly cooked. There was someone singing and it was very delightful. They have some amazing espresso martinis. Our server was Ashley and Erin and they were incredible. The went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. Will definitely be going back soon!

Indescribable night, amazing service, spectacular dishes and music to dance to. Please don't mind the cost of your bill. Just have a great time and believe me, you will. I live in Simi Valley and I can easily go to the one in Malibu. Something about my experiences with my wife and family here makes us connect more. It's like when the stars align or better yet when our particles, molecules and atoms rapidly get excited. It becomes perfect. A night you don't want to end. Lobster bisque - you have to get it!!! No words to describe! Try them all! The butter cake at the end, wow! I feel like my taste buds were in a happy place. Every time we go we asked for a table near the piano. Love the live music and combined with great vocals was always a pleasure. All your senses will be awaken. Life is too short. Have a wonderful time! We sure did!

My husband surprised me with a date night for my birthday because he knows how much I love the butter cake. Mastro's has always been a great experience for me and it was my husband's first time so I was excited for him. The butter cake didn't disappoint, unfortunately our service was very bad. Our server wasn't checking on us as often as she should've. The table next to us had a server that I was we had. Friendly attentive and cared about their dinning experience, unlike our server. My husband's steak wasn't what he expected to receive which was very disappointing. We ordered the butter cake to finish our night, it came with what we thought was a complimentary cheesecake but they charged us for it. We already fed up and wanted to head home so we asked for it to be boxed. That took another 10-15min. It was very disappointing for my husband to experience that kind of service when I have always hyped how much I love going to Mastro's.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience.
We used to go to the original Mastros in Beverly Hills all the time. Mastros has gone way downhill since. I'm all for the masses being able to go to restaurants but this was ridiculous. The class of people at this Mastros was really low. You had people dressed inappropriately with gallons of perfume on. We couldn't even taste our food because the cheap perfume stench was overbearing the whole restaurant. Our waiter was indifferent and barely spoke to us. The food has also gone downhill in a big way since they were bought out by a large corporation.

This was a great experience! The service and food was amazing. This was my first time here during the holidays and was worth every cent. I would recommend to everyone.

Even though this is not an Ocean Club, it's still one of my favorite Mastros. I love the vibe. It's not a 40/20 club, so you can go here with your family and not worry about anybody being too underdressed (you catch my drift). The service is impeccable, and they're always able to get me in. Even if it's just for some champs and buttercake
Be the first to ReplyLet me start by saying that the food was excellent.
The lobster mashed potatoes are to die for. The broccolini was divine with wonderful flavor (it is going to be my new way of preparing it). The cut of the steaks was amazing however, the flavor was not as I was expecting. It didn't taste like anything I couldn't already make at home and for the price; it should. The petite filet was scrumptious, according to my daughter. I thought it was pretty good myself. Here it comes.... The ambiance and atmosphere...eh. I was expecting more. We arrived early before our reservation and we waited for a few minutes in a sitting area near what looked like the kitchen exit (automatic sliding door). While waiting, we overheard several wait staff complaining about one thing or another and in the mix expressed their discontent using profanity (believe me I'm no light weight; profanity is like my second language but come on...). After our short wait, we proceeded to the second floor where we were seated. Now, I don't know if these were the 'cheap seats' but again, several wait staff in white garb just huddled around the bar shooting the sh$!t. No order, lacked organization with a bit of chaos and volume. This didn't interfere with the service, but if you're charging me 80$ for a steak, I'm expecting the staff to stand at attention like the Royal Guard outside Buckingham Palace. I'm just sayin. Oh, and don't worry about the dress code that is emphasized in a long paragraph on their website, they don't adhere to it. I mean they REALLY don't adhere to it (the way some people were dressed--wow). That being said the food itself is worthy of a return visit.

Service excellent but was slow as it got busy later in the evening. Enjoyed our time.
Be the first to ReplyI go to Mastros quite often.
Their bone in ribeye is definitely one of the best. I highly recommend the creamed spinach and twice baked potato. The lobster mashed potatoes is chock full of lobster and their creamed corn is on point as well. They also make a mean martini with one of the best blue cheese stuffed olives in the game. The service is usually very good. The only thing is sometimes parts of the restaurant can be very dark or if you get seated under a AC vent it gets pretty cold. That said if you want a solid steakhouse this is the spot to go.

We went to Mastro's tonight for mine and my wife's 9 year Anniversary, to say the least it was horrible. We get there with high hopes as we have been to multiple locations in the past and never had an issue. First we wait for a little while it's dark as hell so it takes a bit to read the menu before ordering. The server is literally eating something while taking our order. We get our drinks and ok so far they bring bread (they charge $5 for bread by the way) we have maybe 1 bite each and they are trying to take our plates out from under us...annoying but whatever. I order the dry aged ribeye medium rare, my steak comes out bland as hell & straight up tough!!!! 10 min later I flag down the waitress that miraculously disappeared when I needed her. I let her know the steak wasn't good and it was bland she says would you like some rub to put on it or maybe some truffle butter, I'm like ok they are not going to get me a new one WTH. They literally came out with 2 little cups, one with their seasoning that they put on the steak before cooking, and a glob of so called truffle butter that you can't even smell or taste the truffle. At that point my steak is getting cold and some cold butter and seasoning powder patted on top made it taste real appetizing ...THATS SARCASM! It tasted terrible oh, and by the way she charged me $15 for the smell and taste-free truffle butter!!!! Then we order the brown butter cake and it's good we had it before and it doesn't disappoint.....Usually!!! I'm looking at the strawberries and they don't look right, so I have to use my phone light because it dark as hell and go figure, the strawberries are rotten!!!! Ok, I'm done since it's my anniversary, I just go ahead and pay the $315 for a meal, I could have gotten better at Outback Steakhouse for $29.95. Such a terrible experience! I find it insulting to be served trash like that in a place that prides themselves on fine dining. There are better fine dining options! Don't waste your money here!

Not what I expected. Service was fine

Went to this restaurant celebrating a cancer free life with 8 other women. The restaurant was dark we all had to use the lights on our phone to read the menu. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon steak it was absolutely flavorless, the lobster Mac had no seasoning, the bread service was enjoyable which they charged for and my margarita ! Our bill was $1300 in its entity and we all walked away feeling, " we won't be back here again ". This was our experience with fine dining! I'm sticking with Ruth Chris !

I recently had an amazing dining experience at Mastro's Steakhouse, and I cannot recommend this place enough! From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the stunning atmosphere. The decor was classy and elegant, and the lighting was just right to set the mood for a perfect evening. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Wagyu steak, and it was cooked to perfection - incredibly tender and juicy. The taste was out of this world, and it was easily one of the best steaks I've ever had. The tray of oysters was also magnificent, and the freshness and quality of the seafood was evident with every bite. The lobster mac and cheese was mouthwatering, and the creamed corn was just the perfect side dish. The portions were generous, and the flavors of each dish were perfectly balanced.Overall, my experience at Mastro's Steakhouse was wonderful, and I cannot wait to go back again. The food, atmosphere, and service were all top-notch, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. This is definitely a must-visit restaurant for anyone who appreciates great food and an amazing atmosphere!

First time coming here for my anniversary, the service was terrific but the food was terrible. I asked for my steak medium and was still rare. The sides had no flavor. It's all hype saying you ate at Mastros. There are other great steak houses for a better price. Unfortunately won't be coming back. You're just paying for the name.
Be the first to ReplyCan't beat the service here.
I like going for cocktails and dessert in the bar area. They have great local artists come and sing and play piano. Date night recommendation: grab the 2 seats on the backside of the piano. Order a couple espresso martinis and share the butter cake. Can't beat it.
Be the first to ReplyMastros steakhouse is a great fine dining establishment.
First of all, the steak is delicious and cooked to perfection, I definitely recommend that you try the Mac n cheese (even though it is a steak house). Next the service was good because they were very attentive, helpful, and extremely kind. My only complaint is that the restaurant is very dark so it is a little hard to see the menu.

When you become a middle aged man, a couple times a year, you just want to eat a good steak, along with some old fashioned sides, bring a bottle of Alpha Omega from your cellar, enjoy good attentive unobtrusive service, and skip the new age bullsh*t. I go to Mastro's. I know exactly what I'll get there and that's all I want. The rest of the year I can be wowed by some steak presented in a smoking jar with a boysenberry reduction sauce topped by shavings of summer truffle uncovered in a Chilean forest by a wild boar that's eaten nothing but cashews it's entire life at a fancy schmancy new restaurant. But just a few times a year, I need to just come to Mastro's to center myself and recalibrate the palate. We come to the Costa Mesa club when it's just my wife and me. Quiet and easy going (except we try to avoid the bar area because, well, there's a strong lady-of-the-night vibe in there). With guests we go to the Ocean Club in Crystal Cove for the nice view. Oh. One time, my wife (then girlfriend) got too excited when the steaks and sides came, put her face near the plate for a closer look, and the creamed spinach bubbled and popped and lightly burned her eyelid (no scar). As she treated the mild burn, the food got cold. They replaced it all when we were ready to eat then comped the entire meal of their own accord. What class. I knew right then she was a keeper. Cheers.

This place has good food however it's Racially insensitive strong with a Chinese emblem in the front lobby and lots of people who are disrespectful to all the Americans that come in there nobody wants to spend three or $400 for dinner. They have to sit up with a bunch of people who don't even have the decency to speak English.
Be the first to ReplyTheir bar/lounge at this location has great ambiance.
There is always wonderful talent at the piano. Great for a romantic date night.

One of my favorite steak restaurants! This place doesn't need any introduction. Nothing makes me happier than filet mignon, lobster mashed potatoes and butter cake from Mastro's. If you want to splurge, get the seafood tower! The pretzel bread in the bread basket is also yum. It never disappoints! Service is always great. Ambience on point as always. You can bring wine for a corkage fee also, fyi.
Be the first to ReplyWe made reservations here for my birthday.
Party of 4. The food is always good here BUT (here it comes) I felt like we were in a dimly lit dining hall. Very loud. We could barely talk to each other as the table behind us was so loud. Definitely not somewhere you want to go for a nice quiet dinner. It was a Saturday night and we felt rushed through our dinner. That being said the Lobster Fried Rice was AMAZING!!! Probably will try one of the other nice steak houses around town next time.

My husband, myself and daughter ate at Mastro's last Wednesday night. It was a cold and rainy night. Couldn't wait to sit down and enjoy our meal. Our meal was great but we couldn't enjoy it. The restaurant was freezing. I had my coat on the entire time. As we were leaving we could feel the air conditioning blowing. Such a shame - we spent a lot of money and we could not get out fast enough. Did not stay for dessert.
