A friend and I recently had a meal at Mary's Fish Camp.
We were excited to go. Everything was just fine. The prices were very high. But we shared a few starter items so it wasn't too bad. I mean, I'm sure they have a delicious lobster roll, but for $46? Seems a little bit excessive. Although everything these days is so outrageously expensive I suppose it just the way of the world. At least the New York City world. Anyway, the negative part of our experience was the service. They took our order in a timely manner. The food all came out in a timely manner, but once we had eaten, the service vanished. They didn't clear our plates for a very long time, although they sat empty for about 10 minutes on our table. And then, after they cleared us, no one ever came back to check and see if we wanted dessert or anything else! I had wanted one of their lovely desserts, but after a while, I became very annoyed/disappointed by the lack of attention, I just waved down waitress and asked for the check. I also want to add, that the restaurant was not busy. It was a Thursday night. That's the reason for my three star review. The food was fine, and the service was not so good. With the prices they're charging, they could do better. #disappointed

Fish is terribly over cooked and over a charred grill that leaves the skin of your fish bitter to add insult. We've given it a few tries to no avail. We are not seafood snobs, but we are from Spain and know fish. If you're looking for good fish and sea food find another place. If you like mayo covered heart stopping fried seafood, charred bone dry farmed whole fish while you sit elbow to elbow drinking a 90 dollar bottle of good Albariรฑo in a children's water glass. This is your place.

My mother took me out to Mary's for my birthday this year after it was recommended to her by an old friend from the village. The salad, beignets, lobster roll and udon were all delicious and came out quick and hot. The fries were awesome. The service was friendly and professional and the place was so fun and cozy, we loved the posters. We will definitely be making this a tradition!
Be the first to ReplyHad a wonderful time here with my family.
Excellent service and incredible food. It's the best lobster roll in the city. Maybe the universe. If you like seafood, do your self a favor and go eat at Mary's. Boutique oysters by the way and also- the whole fish (grilled or fried) is divine. One of the last standing family run joints in the village- and easily my favorite.
Be the first to ReplySupremely underrated place in the city.
Got a really easy reservation on a Saturday for lunch. Great date spot! The lobster roll was so juicy too. Loved it
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and terrific service.
You can't get better seafood and the salads and desserts are great too. Very nice time in a relaxed atmosphere.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday (she's a big fan of seafood, me less so...) and we were absolutely blown away by the atmosphere, the service and the quality of the food. We have varying levels of experience when it comes to oysters but agreed these were the best we'd ever had. She got the pozole and I got the cod sandwich with fries (and the fries had no business being this good at a place where fish is the speciality) and we ended up splitting both. The ingredients were top notch and the execution of both entrees felt special. We've eaten plenty of stews and fish sandwiches in our lives but none quite like this! Definitely a balance of tastes that would be hard to replicate at home. We almost didn't get dessert but caved when we saw a different table get a hot fudge sundae- the same thing about the fries go for the dessert. The kitchen's attention detail in all aspects of the meal did not go unnoticed by us. Everything we ate was A+ across the board. There's a flavor here that can't be beat - and I'm not talking about the food - the atmosphere is groovy and intimate. Most of the other places in the neighborhood are also great but have that 'restaurant group' quality that can feel rather impersonal so it was a real breath of fresh air to eat a fantastic meal somewhere that felt this intimate and homegrown. The music that was playing was great, everyone who worked there was accommodating and the meal was beyond delicious. We'd heard about Mary's from a friend's very enthusiastic recommendation and I have no doubt that we will be going back and recommending this place as zealously as it was recommended to us!
Be the first to Replywe had a 6:30 rez , which they confirmed several times.
On the rez, they make it VERY CLEAR, they hold the rez for 10 mins. we get there ...there are 7 empty tables. they tell us our table will be ready soon. after a while, I ask: which is our table? they point to 2 people taking up 2 tables and said they are having dessert. as we waited and waited and waited, I said to the host, they are both on their phones. why dont you seat us at an empty table ? oh no, they are reserved. i said, we have a reservation...she shrugs and says would you like to order at the bar? we said NO & left. Ridiculous! the entrees are $54! we went across the street without a rez, and had a lovely evening, no thanks to Mary's BullShit Camp. PEARL was so much better!!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious seafood.
Mussels are a must. Lobster roll is an NYC contender for the best. Cozy spot in a great neighborhood with attentive service. Long bar with lots of stools or come with a group. Love this place.
Be the first to ReplySome very good fried oysters and clams with a huge helping
Some very good fried oysters and clams with a huge helping of bad attitude by the server behind the register by the front door. Us: "We'd like a drink and a snack." Him: "We don't serve cocktails here - just wine and beer." Last I checked, wine and beer qualified as "a drink." How about welcoming us in instead of trying to convince us to go? $57 later - two small pours of house white and an even smaller portion of seafood. The menu looks great and the place is cute, but between the bad service, high prices and stingy portions, we won't be back.
Be the first to ReplyI enjoyed my first visit here very much! I went by myself
I enjoyed my first visit here very much! I went by myself and was seated at their bar area which is right next to their kitchen and could see everything they did - which was perfect. The staff was very friendly. I had a fabulous "Lobster Knuckle Beignets" for the starter dish and this was to die for good. It could have been the main meal itself. For the main dish I had the Cod Sandwhich which was also very good however I ordered French fries with it - and those fries were the only downside of this otherwise spectacular dinner I have had here. I came at about 6:45 pm on a Friday and left at around 7:45 PM and it was very crowded by the time I left. The bathrooms are downstairs and unfortunately they're on the small side - which is common among many NYC places. Overall I will come back again hopefully with friends.
Be the first to ReplyTook my mom here since I had a good impression of the place
Took my mom here since I had a good impression of the place 13 years ago (!). The food was pretty good but the music was incredibly loud & offensive and inappropriate for a lunchtime place that you take your mother - she didn't know what some of the lyrics meant (I hope) but some of them were so raw/explicit that even my ears were turning red. Somehow the physiologic explanation of what the singer wanted to do with her boyfriend in bed didn't mix well with a guy trying to have a nice lunch with his mom. Not that any of this mattered to the people running the place - clearly I was the one with disordered taste, an inconsiderate bent, and a closed mind. I don't think I'll be hurrying back to get more sex ed, and certainly not with my parents.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the lobster.
Sweet delicious fresh lobster! We had the peel and eat shrimp, deviled eggs, and steamers. They were good.. a bit bland. The eggs had a bit of shell in them so ehh. Prob can skip those apps next time but I would try other ones. The entrees were wonderful. Highly recommend the lobster roll and the seafood bouillabaisse. Best cold lobster roll I have had. Thin Shoes string fries are addicting.
Be the first to ReplyI love the casual atmosphere- I finished a script here
I love the casual atmosphere- I finished a script here (they had oysters and wifi- the necessaries for a screenwriter) and to celebrate I had a whole grilled lobster, oysters, and a Michelada!I can't wait to try their delicious cod sandwich. The place just plain rules.
Be the first to ReplyThe lobster roll has shrunk.
$50 for a lobster roll was always tough to swallow but I justified it because I felt like the portion was generous. I couldn't believe my eyes when my plate was put in front of me today. I sent it back and paid the $8 for my can of soda (with tax and tip) and decided that my love affair with Mary has come to an end.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an absolutely wonderful restaurant and is a must
This is an absolutely wonderful restaurant and is a must stop for us when in nyc. Nothing's better than sitting at the bar with plate of oysters, a bowl of French Fries, a nice wine and your partner. Their oysters are great, the wines we have had are all outstanding. Every dish is perfect. The whole broiled fish is as fresh and delicious as can be. Be ready for some skilled knife and fork work if you order it. The fish posole is amazing. Just as the menu says it's a good sized filet on top of a bowl of posole. It is amazing and probably the single best dish we had the other night. From veggie land give the shaved brussel sprouts a try. But leave room for the excellent desserts too. The folks at the bar are very friendly and we had a nice conversation with the person seated next to us who is fortunate enough to live in the neighborhood. The staff is ultra friendly and helpful. It's cozy even on the coldest nights.
Be the first to ReplyWe were in dire need of oysters for brunch and so we
We were in dire need of oysters for brunch and so we stopped by this spot when another brunch spot turned us away. Very cozy inside on a really cold day, we were seated at a corner table just overlooking the streets, perfect for people and dog watching on a Sunday. We ordered a dozen Market oysters (East coast) with Cocktail Sauce, Horseradish and Blush Mignonette to begin with, and I've got to say this is probably the best oysters I've had in years! Absolutely delicious! wow! First time trying oysters this sauce combination and I was mesmerized- 10/10, alongside Deviled eggs- these were really tasty too 8/10.For mains we ordered the New England clam chowder , the crispy monkfish bao buns and my date had the hook and line cod sandwich. Now the clam chowder was the star of the show- she was savory, well seasoned, extremely tasty and just perfect for the cold weather. I literally dreamt of it last night, and I believe it paired really well with the bao buns although I'll give the buns 6/10. The clam chowder? 20/10 it was just THAT GOOD. The sandwich was also good but not as tasty as the rest of the meal 5/10Be aware the do not have a full bar and mainly serve beers, white and red wines. It's also very family friendly and you can bring your little Babies.I will be back for the oysters and chowder FOR SURE!
Be the first to ReplyUpdate 2022 always a favorite spot for cod fosh sandwich
Update 2022 always a favorite spot for cod fosh sandwich and, everything on the menu 2019 Love it here, lunch or dinner. The food is always good; and service super friendly. Love sitting on the bar or the corner by the window for lunch or dinner. My favorite is fish tacos with any sides or appetizers for the season. So fresh, so yummy, so good
Be the first to ReplyWe used to be regulars, then COVID.
The squid appetizer was tasty but barely any squid for $19. The lobster rolls have shrunk, the meat was delicious but at around $50 no longer worth it. 3 beers, 1 app. 2 lobster rolls, 1 desert $175 before tip. This is about $45 more than before. If the lobster roll had been generous not tiny, and the beers not $12 for Pilsner draft I'd have been happy. It's now full tourist fare.
Be the first to ReplyHad sea bass whole fish, absolutely amazing, onions inside
Had sea bass whole fish, absolutely amazing, onions inside the fish removes the fishy bloody smell, definitely going back
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately didn't live up the hype.
We had the lobster roll, which was supposed to be the best one in the city and it was good but very small for $50, it was also pretty small, the fries were cold even though it was Friday night and pretty hot outside. The appetizers were fine but they were all lacking something. I think unfortunately the ambience and food didn't match the price for me.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Friday evening.
It wasn't too crowded, but there was buzz. The wait staff was personable and hospitable. We were undecided on what to eat, so our waitress spoke to us about the menu based on our likes; she was quite knowledgeable. I was in the mood for something warm and comforting, so ordered the bouillabaisse. It. Was. Amazing. The seafood flavor was infused throughout the broth. They did not skimp on the seafood either! There were satisfactory portions of fish, mussels, clams, shrimp, and lobster. This allowed me to comfortably share with my date ( and I'm not one to share). My date had the winter scallops... again, hearty portion of scallops ( not the 3 that most places give ) which were on a bed of chickpea tagine. Be sure to mix in the harissa, which added some nice heat with every bite. We drank the rose that was offered, which was ok. But you don't come to this place for the alcohol. We sat outdoors and ate until closing. We were thankful to sit and enjoy each other's company without the restaurant staff trying to kick us out, which is a rare occurrence in NYC. Love this place! 5
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food.
The shrimp burger is so smoky and delicious. The cod sandwich is amazing. The squid salad tastes so interesting and good. The fried oysters and clams come are great and come with a delicious homemade tartar sauce with red onions in it. Honestly not sure I've ever had a better seafood meal.
Be the first to ReplyMust state I'm vegan but the wifey isn't and she's Japanese.
She was very impressed with the quality and the exquisite taste of the absolutely fresh seafood ย beautifully presented. She loved her bouillabaisse and salmon deviled eggs. Very well priced for such high quality and amount of food. As for me, the shaved Brussels salad (w/o cheese) was so good I had a 2nd and they made an average avocado taste great. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyLobster Roll just didn't seem that fresh.
Maybe a bad night, texture was ick,,,mushy. Location was cool, but for the price, I'd prob go elsewhere.
