"Disappointment"
Today I had the opportunity to return to the Marea restaurant in New York. I had fond memories of it, so I decided to go back... important to mention that the first experience was 10 years ago. Unfortunately, while the ambiance remained elegant and with a certain sophistication, the rest of the experience wasn't the best... We started with the appetizers: Cold and somewhat hard bread, not fresh; We ordered a Franciacorta, which was adequate. The appetizers were good. The main courses were disappointing; out of the 4 we ordered, only one was adequately executed. I ordered a Port wine to accompany the dessert... it was very cold and had already been open for too long... it lost all its bouquet and body... The cuisine was very pretentious, but the waiter and sommelier were extremely friendly. Based on the food alone, I wouldn't come back. It's a pity, as it tarnished my fond memories. Price - adequate if the above criticisms didn't exist.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing must when in NYC
An incredible dining experience but will definitely leave your wallet lighter. We had the Astice, Grilled octopus, Anatra, Fusilli, a bottle of wine and torta formaggio that you MUST try. Eric G. was our server and he was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyThe best Tiramisu in the world
This is definitely a Michelin star quality restaurant. Outstanding service, delicious menu. And if you like Tiramisu, you will not be disappointed. This place has the worldโs absolute best Tiramisu. I donโt want to ruin your surprise, so I will not describe it. Just try it and let me know what you think.
Be the first to ReplyStill the same great experience as over the past 10 years!
I only visit New York for business maybe twice in 3 years and there had been a bit if a longer break due to the Covid years. So, first time back for business since 2019 and I again booked a table at one of my favorite restaurants. The welcome was friendly ("nice to see you back Mr...." - which of course their computer tells then ;-)) and the place as busy as usual. Service was impeccable, Martini perfectly served, choice of dishes excellent and cooked to perfection. Overall, the same great experience which I had always had. Hopefully, I will be able to return soon!

outstanding restaurant. service was very friendly. dishes fresh quality ingredients. langostinos so sweet. pasta and truffles good. quiet enough to have a conversation. room decor is smart. wish they had this place in my city. only fault- dessert menu could be better.

I love New York. This epitomizes the class and elegance of this incredible city. The food, the wine and the service were beyond good. Youโll probably never have a better cut of meat than the veal filet with sweet

"Service from hostess to wait staff and servers was excellent. My daughter has celiac disease. They were knowledgeable and helpful and even brought us a dessertโฆ tiramisu to try because it was gluten free and the waiter was so proud. My daughter loved it and had never been able to try it before. I have been to the restaurant at least 10 times and I always love itโฆ the food.. the service and ambience. All excellent

Good evening, I was at Marea NYC today and I had a bad experience. My reservation was confirmed for 08:30pm, but I arrived at 07:45pm. The hostel asked to wait because the table wasn't ready yet, so far so good. However, the Hostel clearly made a prejudgment because he was wearing a sweatshirt and left us waiting at the door without even offering to take our coats (mine and my girlfriend's). Meanwhile, several people arrived, and the service was clearly different, and soon offering a place to sit. The neglect was so great that when there were 2 places left at the Bar, instead of taking us to sit down, they invited another couple who had just arrived. We stayed there until 8:18 pm without sitting down and in front of the door, while other people arrived and soon settled down. When we saw this, we decided to leave, outraged by the lack of attention and, mainly, by the total disregard of the Hostel.

We went here after a few years for a special occasion. The appetizers and the pasta were just fantastic, some of the best pasta dishes we have ever had, particularly good were the Mezzaluna and the Fussili. The cocktails were good, but quite pricey at around 25$. The service was just right: friendly and efficient, but not hovering around you. The place was packed on a Saturday evening. Strongly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely superb service and delightful dinner
My fiancรฉ and I visited Marea for my birthday on a busy Friday evening in mid-November. We could not have had better service - each member of the team involved in our service was kind, attentive, and never made us feel like they were in a rush. For appetizers, we enjoyed the ricci (sea urchin) which was bursting with flavor, and the Catalonian blue prawn tartare, which was my personal favorite - so aesthetically pleasing to the eye with its vibrant blue color. For dinner, I chose the capesante (scallops), and my fiancรฉ had the casarecce (lump crab and uni purรฉe) dish. We both loved our selections. For dessert, I had the torta de formaggio (pumpkin), which was absolutely divine. I was also provided with a special birthday dessert and candle - a lovely and thoughtful touch. Cocktails were also expertly made. We felt incredibly special the entire evening. I have traveled extensively around the globe, but this was somehow my first NYC visit. This dinner was the star of the show, hands down. Thank you so much, Marea! I plan on returning soon during a couple of upcoming trips.
Be the first to ReplyFood good but expensive
I expected to be writing a five star review. The food, service, and atmosphere of the restaurant were all very good but, I thought, overpriced. Especially the wine list. That said, all four of us enjoyed our appetizers and entrees and had a pleasant overall experience.

Had been one of our favorites but we visit NYC infrequently. Last visit to Morea was three years ago. Heard that they lost their Michelin Star but decided to revisit anyway on this trip. Mistake. Service is still great but food quality of every course was a disappointment for all three of us dining. Looks like their entire kitchen staff must have changed during the pandemic. Hope they find a way to recover. For now - way overpriced for the quality of food being served.

We had a wonderful lunch experience at Marea and itโs now our list of preferred restaurants in NYC - perfect location, ambiance, food, wine list, service โ courteous and efficient from reservations to dessert. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป

I went to Marea many times, today I returned for the first time after Covid. it is no longer an Italian restaurant, moreover the food is not comparable with the cost of the dishes. Pasta that was not understood with vosa was seasoning, cooking? They looked like UDONs. two glasses of wine for $ 26 each, undrinkable, discount wine. the only positive thing is the service.
Be the first to ReplyWine, sashimi/crudo, pasta amazing. Salad not so much
Everything was great except for the salad- would have been fine if it was 10-15 bucks but for $32, I expect to be wowed and it was pretty lame. Love the presentation of food here - so pretty.
Be the first to ReplyFirst-rate dining experience
We've walked by this restaurant so many times, and we finally dined there on the recommendation of friends (and the Michelin guide). The menu is Italian but heavy on seafood. We enjoyed sea urchin crostini, grilled octopus, squid ink lobster ravioli, jumbo lump crab with casarecce pasta and uni puree, and ricotta donuts for dessert. Every dish was delicious! The wine list and service were excellent as well. The restaurant was packed - it always is and for good reason!

Great sea food Italian restaurant at the heart of Manhattan. Great tasting and great attending. Try the tiramisรน! 10/10
Be the first to ReplyPerfect date night
My husband and I were joined by another couple for dinner and we had a fantastic meal here last night. Our waiters name was Dave and he was so charismatic and attentive to our needs as one of our party had a food allergy. He checked in several times throughout our meal to let us know which dishes they should avoid. Throughout the night we called attention to how much we loved and appreciated his service and his helpful nature. We ordered a couple bottles of Greco Di Tufo as itโs become a favorite Italian wine of ours and paired perfectly with the seafood dishes for the night. An amus-bouche was sent to the table which seemed to be a fried pasta noodle with whipped ricotta and a fantastic sauce. We then started with 12 assorted oysters and a combination of 3 crudi dishes: Scampi (Langoustine), Tonno (Yellowfin Tuna) & Passera (Fluke). All were delicious, our favorite raw dish was between the Tonno and the Passera. Our next course we chose Astice (Lobster with burrata), Polipo (Smoked Octopus) & Ricci (Sea Urchin on crostini). Again, all were amazing. Our favorite this course was between the Astice & Polipo because all four of us nearly inhaled those dishes from the moment the plates touched the table. Our entree course we ordered the Risotto Al Funghi (Mushroom risotto), Spigola (Striped bass) & Agnello (Lamb). Once again not one of our party was disappointed with our entrees. In fact we spoke about having a hard time picking our favorite entree, and we discussed other dishes we wanted to try the next time we dine at Marea (one being the Mezzaluna (Squid ink lobster ravioli). For desert we chose to share a cheese plate with our coffee and celebrated a birthday with a scoop of Apricot sorbet. In the end we all very much enjoyed our night and want to thank Dave for being such a wonderful waiter to our party. We will be back again soon!

Visisiting NY , restaurant recomended by my daughter, turn in an outstanding experience, from a well crafted menu, an outstanding wine list, and such service. All of this in a very warm and very comfortable ambience.
Be the first to ReplyFantastico. My new Italian fave in NYC
My motherโs birthday dinner last Thursday night at 1* Marea in NYC was wonderful. Highly recommended. The house specialty Fusili with braised octopus and bone marrow is truly divine; I almost ordered it a second time. ๐
Be the first to ReplyQuality of food, drinks and service excellent. Quantity for price is pathetic.
First, the quality of the food, drinks and service are excellent. The reason for two stars depicts the quantity of food for the price as pathetic and beyond ridiculous. Prices for drinks are also off the moon.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated. Good service.
In general overrated, some dubious choices in food preparation.
There is much better, but the service is excellent.
Good Food, not Michelin Star Level
Couple went for dinner before concert at Carnegie Hall. Service is impeccable but not stuffy. Dishes are well done and of the best ingredients but also rather unimaginative. We had three dishes: the fusily with octopus (sauce overwhelmed the poor octopus), the lobster appetizer (no-taste lobster) and the fish for 2 (best part of the meal) Certainly not 1 Star Michelin Level. Wines by the glass were VERY expensive.

Always a wonderful experience dining at Marea. The extremely friendly staff including Natalie the manager, elevate the entire experience. The food, the ambiance and the staff are all top notch! Everyone went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our dinner and we cannot wait to come back again soon!
