Pretty good
Went for drinks and view on a sunday afternoon, decided to eat with nibbles and small plates. very nice, if a little overpriced. Not so busy, so guess economy is challenging, but worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn’t recommend….
Mix up with tables when we got there but that was sorted pretty quick. Service on the whole was fine although it did take over 20 mins to sort out the bill at the end! Starter was lovely but the steak, oh my days - abysmal. Had to be sent back twice as they didn’t seem to be able to cook it anything other than medium well and after that we gave up. Looked amazing but wouldn’t cut even with a steak knife! Our server did confess they’d had a lot of complaints recently regarding the steaks! Don’t advertise as a steakhouse when you can’t even cook it properly. Won’t be returning.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere
I was a little worried by all the reviews about poor service but my daughter wanted to go here for her 18th. We had no issues at all. The service was fast and friendly and the food and cocktails were excellent.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday meal
Attended the restaurant with my husband and daughters for my birthday. It was a hot day and it was hot in there and no air con. Staff were friendly and it was busy. Took a while for our drinks and meals to arrive but they eventually did and the cocktail drinks were nice. We ordered fish and chips, gnocchi and 2 chicken meals. To be honest we’ve had better at other establishments. The bill for 4 came to just over £140 but for this price I would have expected the food to be exceptional, it was just ok. Lovely touch was a little dessert saying happy birthday at the end, which was nice. Highlight was seeing Commonwealth England athletes and their medals at the restaurant. I probably wouldn’t go again but my daughters have been a couple of times.

Be the first to ReplyAverage at best and disappointing at any price
Average at best and disappointing at any price. Not all bad, it’s a great and iconic location with views over Birmingham and the steaks were great cuts of meat. But all let down by appalling service which was so slow despite the place being virtually empty, overall food was below average and well below what I’m sure the namesake would expect. Staff seemed disinterested, there were several around chatting and we felt like an inconvenience to the front of house. After being seated it took 20 minutes to take an order for even drinks. We ordered food at the same time which took 40 minutes to arrive. Not great at any time but the place was almost empty. The steaks themselves were good cuts, but along with sauce and spinach were lukewarm with soggy soda bread which I think it was sat waiting to be served too long. It expensive but you’re paying for the name and the location nothing more. £275 for 4 mains and a bottle of wine plus a few a drinks, not helped by adding £20 to sit near a window even though it was nearly empty. If good food and service is more important, then there are better options at less than half the price. I’d suggest a candidate for kitchen nightmares, we won’t be back.
Be the first to ReplySo Very Disappointing - Service Abyssmal
Arrived at 12:40 for 12:45 booking. Took 10 minutes to be welcomed and taken to table. A further 10 minute wait before any drink and food order taken. Drinks came 10 minutes later and then the long wait. After 30 minutes they told us there was a problem in the kitchen with our starters. So after an hour our starters arrived. Normal gap between starter and main was fine. Mine was the roast pork and meal was fine. My wife chose the beef, it was that tough you could have soled your shoes with it. Her potato had obviously been reheated as it tasted weird. Following the problems we were offered free desserts which we accepted. My wife had ice cream/sorbet which was fine. I had the crumble, but unfortunately the topping was a crumb mush and very disappointing. It is shameful that Marco Pierre White would put his name to such a mediocre food establishment. Won’t be returning until I see improved reviews.
Be the first to ReplyFree birthday drink
We only came for drinks and the view, team GB were on the rooftop terrace bar claiming another medal, once the barman realise it was my birthday he got me a free beer. Great lad
Be the first to ReplyFood Amazing - Let down by the service
Service was terrible. Our drinks arrived before our food - 45 minutes after we had ordered them. It then took almost an hour for someone to come and take our plates after eating before we could order dessert. The desserts were brought out and one of them was incorrect meaning my partner had almost finished his by the time the correct one arrived. We then asked for the bill and it came 3 times by 3 separate waiters. We then waited another 15 minutes for our change before we could leave. The restaurant was extremely hot and several people around us were using their menu’s as fans - despite several people asking if they air con could be put on, nothing changed. One of the waiter’s shirts was visibly wet with sweat from the heat. No complaints regarding the food, it was amazing. Steak was perfectly cooked and dessert was lovely.

I don’t usually leave reviews however I felt it important to acknowledge the insufficient amount of staff tonight which led to poor service and a disappointing evening for my self and a number of other tables whilst we were there. It took quite a long time to take our drinks and food order. I would say about 30 to 40 minutes. Starters and mains came quite quickly however we hadn’t received our drinks when the food came out. I told the waitress but our drinks still didn’t come until we had finished the starter. Some drinks were missing which then didn’t come until we were eating our main, staff members apologised each time. Food was as expected, however both tables next to us and one behind had similar issues with waiting times, one of which was quite abusive to the staff over it and refused to pay the service charge. There was a heated exchange between members of staff in the kitchen which was easily heard by everyone dining there. Not getting our drinks before we ate is hardly the worst thing in the world however at a cost of £13.50 a cocktail, service really wasn’t up to standard. A member of staff admitted they were short staffed and that accepting walkins didn’t help. This review is not to critic the staff, it’s to acknowledge that the staff were working extremely hard but we’re receiving complaints throughout because they simply could not keep up with the work load.

Our time here was brilliant, the food was great and so were the drinks, however our waiter James was brilliant, made sure we had everything we needed all of the time, constantly checked in with us, and was a true gent and in my opinion gave the best waiting service I have ever received!! If you read this James, thank you for making our night brilliant!!
Be the first to ReplyFood and drinks for 21st
Me and my boyfriend came here for my 21st birthday and we had an amazing time. We were served by James who was an absolute credit to Marco’s Birmingham. He was rushed off his feet as the restaurant was quite busy, but he still ensured we were catered for and looked after from the moment we sat down.
Huge thank you to James who made our evening, we will definitely be returning!!
Huge disappointment
My husband and I visited for lunch last week. The following day I was sent a satisfaction survey to complete. Given that my feedback contained several negative comments, I would have hoped that someone would have had the courtesy to respond. Do they only respond if you tell them something that they like to hear?
I am not going to bother writing a long winded account if our visit, as it seems on par with many others on here. The main points I feel management should to take account of are:
. Order finally taken over 45 minutes after we were seated (having tried for 30 minutes to catch a staff member’s attention).
. Drinks arrived after another 25 minutes, minus the tap water requested, which never appeared.
. Food arrived after another 25 minutes. Two steaks, one cooked incorrectly, which was sent back. Neither of a quality I would expect for the money paid. I have frequently had better quality steaks from a local pub chain.
. After another 30 minutes a very nice waitress asked us if we’d enjoyed our meal. She was told that we hadn’t and asked to see the manager. She took our desert order and an order for more drinks.
. Having finished our deserts, which were the best part of the meal, we asked for the bill. It was incorrect as the voucher had not been deducted. We managed to attract the attention of a member of staff, who happened to be the manager. No apology for not coming to ask why we wanted to see him. We told him how disappointed we were with everything and he agreed to deduct the service charge. However, as our voucher was £100 and the bill was £103, his loss was actually only £3 not the full service charge.
We would have left after the main courses had we not had a voucher. We visited here for afternoon tea a few years ago and can’t believe how standards have declined.
It must be said that all the staff, with the exception of the manager, were friendly and extremely hard working. It was a shame that on the day we visited, we saw them having to deal with complaints from at least four other tables.
Our children gave us the voucher. They work hard and have young families to support. The overriding disappointment of this visit, is that hard earned money achieved such little respect from a local business, all of whom we are repeatedly being asked to support.
Bad service, not worth the trip
I did give the management chance to send a reply to the email I sent, which they said they would, however I’ve had nothing back so I’ve got no choice but to write this review.
We visited on the 20th March for an evening meal. When we arrived the queue for the reservation desk was huge. By the time we had reached the front of it, we should’ve been seated 40 minutes prior. The staff member on the desk gave us no apology or explanation as to why things were so late. We understand things happen, but no explanation is just unacceptable. We were then told to sit in the bar area which was heaving at this point. We heard other people complaining to staff about waiting times so we knew that it was going to be a while.
When we sat for a drink, the girl who had been on the reservation desk started seating people who had just joined the queue leaving us waiting! I went up and mentioned this to her, then she walked off and said there was a table. By this point it was an hour and 15 minutes after we were due to be seated. Again no apology or explanation. We were sat in what looked like a walkway with some small tables facing the window, no music or lights, it was very dark and we had to ask to have a candle lit on the table so we could see better. There was no atmosphere in there whatsoever. Not a great view when you can see people getting changed in the hotel opposite.
Food was nice which was a shame as everything else let the experience down. Although my side order was forgotten and I had to ask for it.
To be honest we couldn’t wait to leave, so as soon as we had eaten, we got the bill and left. We know everyone is human and things can happen but this is totally unacceptable and the fact you can’t even reply to a customer email is just rude. We travelled to come to the restaurant and it was a total waste of a trip.
Great 2 course meal.
Had a voucher for a 2 course meal with Prosecco. The place is lovely. Views were great and the food was delicious. We had the table for 2 hours and with the meal and wine we took up most of this time. The staff were nice and friendly. We had a laugh with one of them and they were perfectly judging the situation. Highly recommended.

Popped in for afternoon tea which was nice enough a d there was plenty of food included. But, as per a previous visit, the service is so off the boil. I also find the huge amount of pictures of Marco a bit off putting too!

James H served us and was an absolutely lovely lad. He was really professional, helpful, kind and friendly I couldn’t of asked for better customer service. Also the food was to a high standard and very tasty. Beautiful clean restaurant
Be the first to ReplyChampagne afternoon tea…
Exceptional restaurant, window view seat was spot on. Tables laid neatly, lovely ambiance.
However…
Started off by being questioned about booking, told “sweetheart, it’s the wrong date. It’s for the 3rd.” Which I kindly had to inform them that it was intact the 3rd april TODAY.
Finally seated, but had to call someone over after finally getting them to stop and listen after 20 minutes of waiting. The waitress was amicable, although some confusion as she ordered us an extra drink which we were initially charged for before we queried. We did not get this drink for an additional 20 minutes. Therefore, sat without a drink for 40 minutes. We did manage to get some tap water about 35 minutes into this.
When our afternoon tea finally arrived, we asked for the champagne we had included in our package to be put on hold for 10 minutes. Here, I would suggest that the staff advise those for champagne afternoon tea to perhaps enjoy the champagne first then order additional drinks.
We had to call the manager over to finally receive our champagne in the end. We asked for tea to then come along as we would have been waiting for however long again. When the tea came, we had no sugar, chipped MUG, and dirty saucers. The lady who took care of us was very quick to rectify the matter, which we thank her for. She was very friendly, kind, and polite to speak to.
When our bill came, we queried it due to the additional charges that we had not asked for. The waitress queried us on our own queries, rather than asking the waiter who had “looked after us” for the time period. This waitress also gave us complimentary take away boxes by throwing them down on the table before us, rather than politely handing them. It had been so rude that we had not realised there were 2, so when we asked for a second she rudely informed us she had given us 2 already.
The food, afternoon tea, and drinks were exceptional. I just wish I could say the same for the service. Hopefully, it was just an off day for the staff. We would like to return as the Sunday lunches looked exceptional, so fingers crossed next time will be much brighter!
