The cauliflower okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) was the best thing we had that day. Good food but a definitely overpriced. I've been here a couple times and there have been some issues with kitchen consistency. Food is good but not always worth the price. Very popular.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vibe, until.
..we found plastic in our burger. Sent it back and it took 45 minutes to replace with a new burger; which was burnt to a crisp. Well, well, well done.Added extra star because they took burger off bill. Subtracting extra star because they never brought us the mushrooms we ordered but charged us anyway. What a joke.

So good! Tasted most of the menu since they are small plates. My favorite was the cauliflower: surprisingly flavorful! I'll return to try the sandos though. I sat at the bar and had great cocktails and service from everyone. 5 star
Be the first to ReplyIt's a small place side and even smaller kitchen.
I sat at the bar which was nice. All of the seats were counterheight anyway. Food was good but overpriced. I had cauliflower okonomiyaki, wagyu steak skewers, lamb skewers, pork belly skewers and escargots. Wagyu didnt seem fatty enough. Pork belly would been better with a white bun. Lamb skewers were cooked well but still gamey. Escargots had a nice crunchy topping.

The food here is okay but it is wildly overpriced and the portions are minuscule. We came here for a special event and when we asked for recommendations the waitress couldn't give us any. She said she was filling in and hadnt tried anything on the menu. We spent $150+ for dinner for two and left hungry and like we had been played. They also didn't do anything special for our special event which was disappointing. Overall we left feeling like we made a mistake and waisted our time and money on this place. Every other time we've ever gone out for our anniversary the restaurant has done something special or brought us a complimentary beverage but not this time, we just got a giant bill and empty stomachs.
Be the first to Replyit was unfortunately expensive and quite bad.
the service was fine but everyone was on their phones or laptops while we were waiting for our food (including the chef, while our skewers were on the grill, was on her phone). and then the food was both unremarkable and bad tasting. overall very disappointing and spent about $120 for two.

Vanderbilt Ave is a fun part of hipster Brooklyn I haven't had many opportunities to visit. I am not gonna pretend that the initial choice for a good restaurant on that block wasn't Olmsted across the street. But upon learning that Maison Yaki was the sister restaurant serving Fusion style Yakitori, I was mighty intrigued. I was delighted by the relaxed vibe and the nice touch with exposed brick walls, open kitchen and bar seating around the kitchen. For the rest of us, the patio seating was something I wish I didn't miss out on. The menu was simple excellence. Appetizers and skewers, no frills. Mushrooms, scallops, and the cauliflower okonomyaki were true highlights. The beef tongue was disappointing due to the excessive batter coating on top of two quarter slices of bread it was sandwiched between. The texture and flavor was a bit of a miss as a result. Food aside, the staff was delightful and attentive (sometimes to the point where we had moments feeling pressured to leave and not order more food). Few gripes aside, it was still very solid experience and my friends enjoyed themselves. Look forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu.
Be the first to ReplyThoroughly disappointing food and terrible service.
I will start with the worst:The Lobster Takoyaki (3 fried dough balls) seemed like they had been par-cooked yesterday, and quickly dunked in warm oil today. The result was chewy, overcooked lobster bits embedded in a mushy, room-temp, undercooked ball. Not much flavor, either. Mayonnaise is not sufficient. But the capper was when the server stopped by and said "How is that lobster?" and when I made a disappointed face and said "Meh", she just walked away! She didn't ask why, she didn't offer to fix a mistake, she didn't even say Sorry. Just walked away. But to continue:Moroccan Spiced Glazed Carrots - light on the Moroccan spice and heavy on the sweet, sticky glaze. Would expect this dish at a Dallas Barbecue joint. Tuna Nicoise - a waste of good tuna - sliced very thin and laid out on the plate like carpaccio, somehow not fresh-tasting. Was it sliced earlier in the day and left to turn grey?Cauliflower Okonomiyaki - very bland and very mushy. Mayo just makes this worse. Duck Rillettes - the only dish out of 5 that wasn't disappointing. And some other notes -Back yard is very noisy because of the restaurant next door's exhaust fan. I wouldn't mind the prices if the food and service were adequate. But they weren't, so I just felt used. Olmsted is a truly remarkable restaurant - in what way could they possibly be affiliated? Unbelievable. Management is asleep at the wheel, or worse, actually thinks they are bulletproof and can get away with whatever.

If I'm coming to a place like this, then for the price, I want tasty, and maybe even "inventive" food. They do have very elegant and inventive dishes, and a few stand-outs, but most are just a B+ in taste, such as Tuna Nicoise; Wagyu Steak Tartar; Scallop Maltaise. The exception was the stand-out "A" Cauliflower Okonomiyaki. Cocktails were also disappointing (B). Worse was the Tarte au Chocolat; a $12 solid "B". Staff were wonderful.

Food was great but they have very loud trivia going on Thursday nights which absolutely ruined the experience. Definitely would have picked a different night had we known.

Tepid greetings from a side-eye-giving hostess start the evening here. Don't go into hospitality if you don't want to be hospitable to the people patronizing a business. Period. Our server was much friendlier, though, which was a big relief. She was helpful and attentive throughout. We tried the pork belly, escargot, frog legs and duck l'orange, and had the mint mules to drink. The drinks were a fantastic non-alcoholic option for us. Too many mocktails rely solely on sugar to pass by, but these didn't. The flavor was interesting and sharp. A+The pork belly and escargot were the clear winners of the night. Whatever sauce is on that belly is absolute fire. The frog legs were just okay and tasted like nothing more than bland, tiny fried chicken. Do NOT order the duck l'orange. I took one bite and almost considered sending it back. First mistake, they GROUND the duck and pressed it into a meatball, rendering it indistinguishable from ground turkey. Unfortunately, that decision was not described on the menu so I felt seriously misled. Such a massive shame. It was so salty that I almost choked. I am not exaggerating--the amount of salt in this dish produced an involuntary physical rejection. The price tag on this dish is abhorrent considering what you get in return. The tables are extra tiny here as well, so it was a constant struggle to move dishes around and find room for everything. This place is a pass for me. Do better, Maison Yaki.
Be the first to ReplyWould give this zero stars if I could.
The portions are so small! 13-19 dollars for two tiny skewers. You'll leave hungry and wallet empty
Be the first to ReplyNice fusion.
Japanese skewers with French sauce. Expect to spend ~$40/person to make your tummy feel somewhat happy. Small menu but solid choices.

Served us undercooked chicken to the point of it being blue on the inside. First time I've ever sent back food to the kitchen. Also the water tasted so bad, we had to order drinks just to avoid drinking it. I live just blocks from this place and my tap water tastes better than theirs somehow? And we spent $128 on our food and left hungry. The salad was delightful though.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a fantastic meal at Maison Yaki.
Outdoor patio in rear was comfortable, though a neighboring A/C was quite loud. The food made up for that minor shortcoming. Every plate was delicious and interesting. Pacing was perfect and service was attentive. Not a cheap meal but it lived up to its price point. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyI want to like this place more than I do.
.. I've been twice, and the tapas are tasty, I just never leave feeling satisfied. I get that tapas are bites to share, but for the cost, you just don't get enough food. We got the short rib skewer which was delicious, but it was $18, for 4 small pieces. I could get a whole burger for $14 elsewhere. The asparagus special was fantastic, as was the BREAD!! But again, the bread came with 2 rolls, and was $10. Im mad just typing that out. My friend loves the cauliflower okonomiyaki, and the texture is great, but again, so small. I think this place is better for like... a drink and a snack, but not for dinner. Otherwise you'll be spending A LOT to feel like you've had enough food.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is yummy but expensive.
I had the scallops, the cauliflower okonomiyaki, and the asparagus almondine. All were great. The hostess is a bundle of friendliness, and very helpful (she put my ice cream in the freezer while i contemplated their menu). The bartender, Jordan, (Wednesday night) was fun, attentive, intelligent (and cute). All in all, I will come back here, . . . When i. Am feeling wealthier! Lol. Nice vibe for a date, and soft lighting.

My husband and I had dinner at Maison Yaki a few weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. The drinks are phenomenal (for anyone reading, get the Tarragon Margarita!) and the food is delightful. You can't go wrong ordering anything, but my personal favorites were the French Breakfast Radishes, Pork Belly, and the Chocolate Pot De Creme for dessert. These are definitely small plates so be ready to share and try many things! The staff were super sweet (ESPECIALLY Jane, I hope I'm remembering their name right - they checked in on us so frequently, made recommendations, and made us feel so welcome). We will definitely be back!

Had dinner here with a couple of friends and sat outside which was the perfect place to people watch. The service was downright some of the best service ever, they know the menu inside and out and that's a huge accomplishment, as there are lots of details to each dish. We had two different waitstaff helping us with making decisions on what to order, and they were both Incredibly helpful, attentive, and so friendly they kept us smiling the entire time we were there. The food is just so good. Japanese with a French twist. The mushroom, scallops, pork belly skewers were some of my favorites but everyone ended up having their own favorites too. Fun place to go and share dishes. Cocktails also hit the spot. Thank you Maison Yaki for a thoroughly wonderful dining out experience !
Be the first to ReplyThere was no flavor.
They're not seasoning the ingredients properly. It's sad they're not tasting what they're making along the way before they serve it.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were SO disappointing.
My martini on the rocks was all ice and barely any liquid. Waiter was half asleep. Yawning as he spoke to us. Dropping things as he spoke and served.Radishes were hard as rocks and inedible. Literally hurt my teeth and had to pull it out of my mouth. Couldn't cut it with a knife.Pork belly had a manure after-taste. Inedible.Duck meatballs. Eh. All the service was so lazy and sloppy.I could go on...but it was just so bad. Sadly so overrated. We've been here years ago when it was brand new and it was pretty satisfying. What happened?
Be the first to ReplyVery cool and fun experience.
Lots of small plates, really unique dishes and good drink selection. Came here on a Friday night date night with my gf. We were told about 6-8 dishes would be appropriate and would agree after the fact.Started with the assorted pickles. Nice flavors, great compliment for later dishes too.Tempura frog legs were very juicy with a lot of crisp. Dipping sauce was nice addition.Brussels sprouts Okonomiyaki was very unique. So much flavor, very fun dish.Beef tongue sando was probably our favorite. So much flavor, recommend hanging onto those pickles from before to have alongside.Pommes were exactly as pictured. Nice and crispy. Solid addition to the meal.Pork belly skewer was very flavorful and essentially fell off the bone. Octopus skewer was a little disappointing. Ours were a bit chewy.Short rib was generous portion, great sauce but as our last portion we were struggling to finish. Not that it was t good, just a lot of food. Seen people mention that it is a bit pricey, which I can see, however that's how small plates tend to be. I thought this was reasonable and definitely will be back again.

We came in at 7:30 and they said they could seat us if we left by 8:30 so we were like ok, an hour sounds doable; however, no server came up to us for about 20 minutes. Only one dish had came out by 8:30 and it looked like nothing else was on the horizon. Additionally, the one dish we did get was just four small slices of bread (two of them were heels too ) that we paid $11 for. A shame. We then asked the hostess if we could just pay for the bread and leave since it was approaching 8:30. Luckily, they didn't force us to take the rest of the food and pay some $40 to eat on the street ย anywho. Went to taco place across the street for some sustenance
Be the first to ReplyFun atmosphere.
The yakitori was great especially the scallops one. The other appetizers tasted decent but portions are really small, would need to sometimes get double portions for 4 people. Drinks are delicious. Overall decent food, portions are quite small and slightly expensive

Our experience started with the hostess who was not very friendly. We tried to engage and make some light convo but we're met with complete stiffness. There were very limited vegan options, the pickles and a salad, so I dove into some vegetarian items. The house bread was really overpriced. 4 small pieces for $10 and it did not leave an impression. The radicchio salad was quite fresh and tasty and they were able to put the goat cheese on the side. The mushroom sandwich could have been so amazing but it was just so so. I couldn't really feel the texture of the oyster mushrooms, just a lot of pickled veggies. The device was quite slow, we often had to wait a long time for the server. While the interior I was nice and cute, I probably won't be coming back. Sustainability rating: average. Single useNapkins but reusable dining ware.
