Loquita Santa Barbara Reviews from The Last Year
One of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara in my opinion.
It has a great ambiance. It is great for a drink after work or a formal dinner with many spaces inside. The food is great, the paella and the pintxos are excellent.
This was my second time at Loquita and it never disappoints.
The ambiance is relaxing and the food is divine. The service is always fantastic, our waiter was very passionate about our experience and made sure we were educated about the menu. We started with the pera, the goat cheese had a wonderful smooth texture combines with the macerated pears to make every bite delicious. Then we had the paella which had a savory and salty flavor. I will get this dish every time I come here. It's my favorite and not to be missed. The Txangurro was a crab dish that we tried, my boyfriend loved it but it was just okay for me. I think my tastebuds were previously satisfied by the prior dishes. Loquita is a must stop if you're in Santa Barbara.

Wow, the presentation and flavors of our plates were amazing! Everything we had here was exceptional and memorable. I would highly recommend the mushroom croquettes, tuna crudo, and sangria poached pears (which would make a great dessert/final plate). Atmosphere was fun but not too loud, and we were seated promptly at 5pm on a weeknight.
We held our welcome dinner at Loquita in May 2024 and it
We held our welcome dinner at Loquita in May 2024 and it was AMAZING!! We had dined at Loquita multiple times prior and it quickly become our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara so knew we wanted to host one of our wedding events here. I worked with Megan at ACME Hospitality to plan the event and she was incredibly helpful and communicative throughout the entire process. We had 30 people and reserved the smaller patio located in their outdoor space and it was perfect. The food was amazing and there was SO much of it. We ended up having a lot of leftovers because of how much food they gave us and our guests were able to take some home, which was nice. People were telling us it was some of the best food and red sangria they've ever had. Mark, our server, was absolutely incredible and was so on top of keeping the drinks flowing for our guests. So many people came up to us afterwards to tell us how impressed they were with him. He was so kind and fun to be around and overall just really great at his job. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere -- everything was absolutely perfect. And considering how much food and alcohol we got, we felt like it was a good deal for the price. I highly recommend holding an event here if you're considering it. Thanks you to the Loquita team, Megan, and Mark for making our welcome dinner so special!
First, love that this restaurant is dog friendly.
Highly recommend for those of us that look at our dogs as another member of the family. Now for the food. We wanted to hit as many things on the menu as we could and it did not disappoint. Croquets, olives, oysters, bread, steak and (not pictured: the churros). Really was a perfect meal for a night in SB. My one gripe was that we were sat down and no one came to get our drink order for ~15 minutes. A lovely woman who noticed no one had come to our table finally came over to take our drink order before our waiter arrived. It's a small thing, but was not an ideal way to start the night. In all - will absolutely be back and hope to try other things on the menu that we didn't get this time around.
Amazing food quality, service is beyond excellent, ambience
Amazing food quality, service is beyond excellent, ambience 10/10. Overall sensational! Reviews speak for themselves. Enjoyed a nice dinner here, recommend the passion fruit tuna, blended goat cheese sangria infused fruit tapas, octopus, seafood paella, any croquettes, and the panna cotta / Spanish coffee. Definitely would come back here. Only con would be portions are quite small compared to $$$. Expect to spend a lot here.
Great for tapas.
Being European, we like the ability to order smaller dishes and dine for a longer period of time. This place definitely accommodates for that. The food is great and the staff as well. I do think it's very over-priced, but that's really up to you whether you think it's worth it. We had a great evening. I would recommend sitting inside if your looking for a more buzzy and cozy atmosphere.

We went to loquita for my birthday and it was so good we have to come back the next day. Paula who wasn't our server was the sweetest person. Very welcoming. There was also Luna who was the hostess but knew sooo much about the menu. Shocked she isn't a server. The food was amazing. Drinks were so yummy and there was a huge gin selection. Over all such a beautiful place and it made my birthday so special. Highly recommend 20 out of 10

We were visiting from the east coast and three of our California friends recommended this restaurant to try - how right they were!. The restaurant staff was pleasant and our server Dakota was exceptional- she suggested and described dishes that we would not have tried but were so glad we did! We decided on the tapas menu and enjoyed octopus, mushroom, ahi tuna and the charred west coast oysters paired with a carafe of Spanish wine. Will be back!
Went here recently and I couldn't have been happier with
Went here recently and I couldn't have been happier with the food, drinks, and ambiance. Make sure to make a reservation as they are very busy. The cocktails were great, the tapas were excellent and the best part was the paella. If you are planning to have paella, make sure to put that in quickly after you are seated as it takes a while. The evening we went, it was backed up and took 90 minutes to get our paella. The server let us know when we sat it would take a while so we knew it going in. For that reason we kept ordering tapas which you can get most of them in individual servings which was really enjoyable so we could try additional. I will definitely be going back here next time I am in Santa Barbara.
Is this place a joke??? $95 dollars for a seafood paella
Is this place a joke??? $95 dollars for a seafood paella that is only 12" in diameter? Waitress said we should get the paella for 4 people so we thought it would be a good amount for the main meal and we laughed when the paella came to the table. We were like ummmmm where is the rest of it?! It's a paella size for 2 people. Barely any rice, maybe $20 of seafood. I felt like I could've gotten this at Whole Foods and made it at home. The management or owner should take a trip to Spain. Major disappointment
Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting from out
Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting from out of town and don't usually have Spanish style cuisines near their hometown Started off our dinner with the Crudo. I loved this as our starter since it was plated very simple (as in no extra topping to distract the star of the show). An amazing flavor overall. Not too heavy to start us off which I did like. Next, we enjoyed the Patatas Bravas. This one had such bold flavors that paired VERY well with each other. The potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. All the flavor was in the sauce! Just wowed with every bite I took. So savor them! Next dish we enjoyed was the Pulpo. First of all, I would like to say I've had horrible experiences eating pulpo so I grew to not like it nor prefer it. I decided to give it another try and I was not disappointed. I would love to show my appreciation to the chef(s) that prepared this dish from start to finish, it was plated up so beautifully. Thanks to these chefs I now can say I love pulpo. ( I'll be comparing this pulpo to many others and doubt that it will ever be topped) The pulpo had a nice char to it that gave it a slight crunch on the outside and a beautifully butter soft chew. Next dish we enjoyed was the Chicken and Chorizo Paella. I've never had paella prior to this but have heard many things about how good it is and the crispy rice at the bottom. I think this dish was the star that stole the show for me. I had high expectations and this exceeded everything. The rice was just BURSTING with flavor, the chicken was cooked and seasoned amazingly. I kept grabbing more chicken for myself. The shishito peppers could've be a dish of their own, I still liked them in the paella though! The lemon aioli gave it a nice tanginess to the bite so I wish I had ask for more on the side! I thought the paella had a good crispiness to it but my bf thinks it needed a little bit more. Last dish we ate was the Torrijas. We were stuck on what to choose just because everything sounded so good to try. Our waitress, Miko (I believe was her name), told us excitedly to grab the torrijas. One thing I'll always go for is if my server if super excited about an option. They never disappoint! First, I would like to say the bread had the flavor of a mix between a funnel cake, French toast, and bread pudding. Such a weird way to put it but i loved it! The creme anglaise had a nice sweetness to it , not too much that leaves you with a bad tooth ache. The berries on top were both sweet and tarty so it balance really well with the entirety of the dish. My bf got a free scoop of ice cream so he put that on top and it honestly made it taste even better! Overall 10/10 experience here. I couldn't be any happier to try an amazing Spanish menu. Our server Miko gave us such an unforgettable experience with her hospitality that night and would love to give our appreciation to her! Thank you!! I'll definitely be back here to try other dishes!
Visiting the funk zone for the first time and decided to go
Visiting the funk zone for the first time and decided to go for some tapas. It was a long afternoon so details are fuzzy but I do remember the drinks were fantastic and the food was even better. Bravo. I did forget and leave the brewery tshirt I had just bought there but that was on me.
Excellent, great quality food.
We ordered croquettes and paella and it was superb! The only reason for 4 Stars is due to the noise level in the diving room. The dining room is a bit chaotic since there is an open seating bar, this causes a lot of traffic in the restaurant and high noise levels. We were celebrating our anniversary and we're unable to hear each other speak. Also, we made a reservation and still had to wait a bit to get seated. Food made it worth it, however could have been a better experience overall.

Delicious food - the paella is a must! Cool cocktails, wonderful service, loud but fun vibes. Make a reservation and try it.
The service and atmosphere were excellent, but
The service and atmosphere were excellent, but unfortunately, the food didn't meet expectations. Four of us were surprised that this establishment is Michelin rated. It's made us question the reliability of the Michelin guide.
Loquita has good food & good vibes.
We started off with the encanto drink, which was refreshing. I do wish they had more non-alcoholic choices though! Then, we got the pan con tomate. The bread was good & the tomato sauce was fine. I think ur needed some more spices, personally. We also had peras with goat cheese. The peras & orange pieces were lovely & sweet, which contrasted nicely with the tart & sharp goat cheese. Next, we had the patatas bravas which were sooo good we were debating getting another round haha. The star was the paella de mariscos. Do note that it takes average of 45 min to get so order as early as possible! The rice was so good & garlicky. The shrimp were nice & plump and the scallops and mussels were tender & full of flavor. We ended the dinner with the churros, which to me are a skip. The churros were dry & the sauces were forgettable & not very innovative. The service was good but I wish we got checked on a bit more. The bathroom was clean but a little weird because the stalls were frosted glass so you could see silhouettes of everyone. Overall a good experience!
H
Fabulous food! Highly recommend. Especially loved the tuna crudo. We also had the chicken paella, shrimp in garlic sauce and some croquetas to start. Everything was good. We'll be back when we next visit Santa Barbara.
Everything about this place was AMAZZZZING.
My fiance & I drove out here for a date night & we got a good amount of stuff. I see why everyone raves about the paella. I also LOVEEEEE cold cuts so I was in heaven. We tried the mariscos paella which was amazing. Customer service was great. Will definitely come back out here for this place. I really wish I would've gotten more pictures of our food but lightening was pretty bad in there & food was too good to even pick up my phone haha.
Excellent service , wonderful atmosphere and fantastic food.
We shared two paellas. The seafood and the chicken & chorizo. Both were bursting with flavor, seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. We split this between 5 people and there was plenty to eat. We had a potato appetizer along with a mushroom appetizer. They were both exceptional. The potatoes were seasoned with garlic and red sauce -- phenomenal! The patio is beautiful and very relaxing. We will go back. A joyful evening!
A bit of Spain in Santa Barbara
Of the hundreds of restaurants in Spain, who knew I could find one in Santa Barbara that was just as delicious. In the tappas style there is a rotating list of them in the multiple times we have gone. They have all been delicious - clearly meant to share, and full of flavor. They offer several paella dishes - done perfectly and quite filling Excellent wines from the Harro area of Spain - they clearly know their Spanish wine. This is a great place to go for someone who loves Spanish food and misses Iberia
Great food and perfect environment
First, our server, Dakota, was exceptional! She gave us great advice on food and wine. She has a great personality. Next, the food … wow! We had three tapas and finished with the vegetarian paella. Presentation was fabulous and the taste even better. I’ll definitely go again.
Mostly delicious
We were lucky enough to spontaneously get a table for four people there. We were served very nicely and the food tasted mostly good to very good. The dessert (churros) was the highlight for the whole family. Many here have criticized the small dishes but that is common with tapas. But actually quite expensive.
good, but somewhat pricey
Extremely popular with the dating crowd and tourists. Recommendations recommended. Food is interesting, quite good, but somewhat pricey.
Over-rated
Decent ambience & clearly trendy option - but vastly overpriced for the quality of food and size of portions. Better options elsewhere in Santa Barbara in my mind.
Why fly to Spain when you can dine in Santa Barbara
This is Spain in Santa Barbara, in fact, this is better. The food is every bit as wonderful as the quality of tapas we had in the Michelin Star restaurants in Spain. Easy to find, with their own parking lot, the restaurant provides a Santa Barbara casual feel. You can dress up, you can wear jeans (designer of course and those jeans should cost more than your dress clothes - after all..). The menu is simple, but the food has layers of flavor, texture, and is fresh. We will be going back to try everything on the menu but here are a few: Jamon Tasting - yes, amazing charcuteria - and if you love Iberico Ham this is for you. Manchego Quesos - a delicious combination of 3 month aged sheep milk with fuji apple, on sourdough and the fennel marmalade is bright - an ignition key for the palate. It also came with marcona almonds - which thankfully I cannot buy there otherwise I would gorge myself. Carpaccio de Carne is the grass fed beef with pickeld mustard seed, a 12 year sherry vinegar and the arbequina olive oil makes my coronary arteries relax and my heart filled with happiness. Even my 13 year old was asking if he could have more. And we did - but there is more. The Persimion with whipped Spanish goat cheese, pistachio salsa verde, blood orange topped with a smoked sea salt is almost dessert - almost, because I didn't get to try their dessert because I was too full from their food. The Chorizo y Pollo Paella put my paella to shame. I picked up a few pointers on how to improve mine. Theirs was chorizo, chicken, gigante beans, hen of the woods, salmorra, shishito, and a lemon aioli. With the perfect socarrat. The gin and tonic, and they have a wide selection - was refreshing and delcicious. I did enjoy their lovely Temparnio from Rioja - and highly recommend it. So instead of buying a trip to go to Spain, this is better - oh so much better.
Great Food, Service, Odd Wine Service
This is a Spanish restaurant with excellent food. It is a lively restaurant with very good, attentive service. Our food came out at a good pace and at the right temperature. We started with the tomato bread with boquerones, which was very good….we love the white Spanish anchovies. Our next course was Almejas (Manila clams, Spanish chorizo, and fennel) served in an unbelievably good cream sauce. Grilled ciabatta is served along side. You will need more, though they do charge $5 for that….well worth it. For our main, we had the Chorizo and Pollo paella. Delicious, just the right amount of heat with a perfect bottom crust. It could easily feed 4. It was just my husband and myself and it killed us to leave some, but…. All of this aside, the wine service is a little odd. We ordered a 1/2 bottle of white for the tapas and a 1/2 bottle of red for the paella. For each we received an unknown wine in a carafe. We went on faith that the wine we ordered is what was in the carafe….we never saw a bottle. The pricing of their wines is weird…for the most part it is cheaper to order 2 “half bottles” than a whole bottle…..just an interesting side. Of course, if you do that, you will have no idea what you are actually drinking. Wine service aside, this is a great restaurant.
Great Spanish Restaurant
This is really an extraordinary Spanish restaurant, all of the tapas are excellent, I'm very reluctant to order paella at a restaurant because of the time restraints necessary to create this dish, but it was very respectable. I would recommend the pulp (octopus) the gambas the carpaccio and the pan con tomatoes. The service is always excellent, I have been there 12 times and have never been disappointed.
Alfresco dining with tasty offerings
While we sat in the patio on a wintery Santa Barbara evening, heaters were well placed for a comfortable environment. Our server was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. Crafted cocktails were great both in presentation and taste. We ordered so all dishes could be shared by our guests including the paella and assorted tapas. Everything was quite tasty. I was happy we came as a group of six so that we could experience several of the dishes. I would happily return.
