Perfect meal.
Just perfect. We had the grouper with barbecue shrimp. We had the pork chop and we had the roasted chicken. We tried all the sides, and that was the best decision of the night as the mashed potatoes and the peas and rice for the biggest surprise. The lemon cello sponge cake was outstanding for dessert and the espresso. Crème brûlée was good not great but good. This place is an absolute gem.
Be the first to ReplyTruly wonderful experience here.
We've been following Chef Vivian Howard for a while, so it was great to finally eat at one of her restaurants. It's a very cozy setting that isn't too upscale and has a great vibe. The food was the best we've had anywhere in Charleston. Everything was a banger. The salad was fresh with vibrant flavors. The pork chop was one of the best I've had and was so fatty, it felt like pork belly. The sauce was sweet and tangy. The cornmeal dusted catfish was fried perfectly and paired well with the tomato and okra stew and sage pesto. Our favorite side was the peas & rice. It was so rich with all the flavors that it felt like eating a very high quality risotto. The limoncello sponge cake was a nice citrusy dessert to end the meal. They knocked it out the park with their food. Can't recommend this place enough.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious approachable food at Lenoir.
Fun decor and vibe. We had strawberry salad, cornbread fritters, the most amazing local pork chop, and two great sides-pea and rice salad (insane) and fancy mashed potatoes. Loved it all. Awesome large round bar for dining or drinking. Will try that next time.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing after having three previous great
Very disappointing after having three previous great experiences here. This came down to bad management. We brought guests here early at 5:00pm since once of our guests had a long drive after the dinner. So we figured we'd be done by 6:15 at the latest. Four of us and were the first table there and to order. We order a couple of apps then entrees and a bunch of sides. The app came out about 10 minutes after we ordered. It was delicious and we all enjoyed it.....then we waited about an hour before our entrees finally came out. I spoke to the manager about our concern while we waited. No apologies, just an 'I've got the kitchen working hard on it.' Our waitress seemingly ghosted our table once she noticed it was taking so long. My usually very patient husband then got up to go and see what was taking so long. Again, no apology. Finally the food started to come out. One of the sides was missing and at that point we said, please just forget it. We don't want it. I ordered the $40 pork chop which was so incredibly fatty I got maybe five actual bites of meat from it. My husband's steak was equally filled with fat mostly. The manager came to the table to check in and when I remarked about the meat she said, 'yeah we've been having that issue lately. When our pork chops come in you just never know.' As we were almost done that side we canceled came out anyway....at that point we were all fed up and ready to go. The waitress was very nice and the manager took the two entrees off the ticket but could have gone the extra mile and at least truly acknowledged what a mess the entire service was and the hour long delay. Hopeful this restaurant survives as nothing in that space seems to make it. But it's going to need to experienced and engaging management to make it happen.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was just delicious.
Service was also amazing. Craft cocktails good too. Gotta try it out!
Be the first to Replyawesome experience here! hostess and waiter were super nice
awesome experience here! hostess and waiter were super nice and helpful. food was fantastic and not too pricey. my partner and i shared the vegetable of the moment, fried collards, tile fish, and slaw (my fav). everything was delicious and i would certainly come back. i wished they had one vegetarian / vegan main dish, but i understand that isn't too common in many Charleston restaurants,
Be the first to ReplyAfter a bad experience elsewhere, we stumbled across this
After a bad experience elsewhere, we stumbled across this place and they gave us exactly what we desired. A southern inspired menu with a twist on popular items, such as the hush puppies with apple butter, the catfish over a yummy okra stew, and scrumptious whipped potatoes. Dessert was a chocolate mousse with a lightly flavored peppermint whipped cream (made in house). Wish I could come here again!! But happy that I was able to try it.
Be the first to ReplySo, Ive watched Vivian Howard for quite a while now.
I was able to be able to eat at her restaurant in Kinston, NC Chef and Farmer in 2008 and was blown away. I was also very happy to get the chance to eat at Lenoir. The space seems tiny but really opens up once inside. It is dominated by a large horseshoe shaped bar with bright yellow seats. Makes the room feel bigger. My wife and I started off with some bourbon cocktails and split an order of the chicken wings. Think smoked wings with blueberry BBQ sauce. The were delicious. She chose the K-Town burger and fries. This burger was huge. on 2 thick cut pieces of Texas toast, with cheese, chili and slaw. It was delicious. The fries were good too with a ketchup mayo to dip them in...(Pro Tip...if you order the side of fries ask for extra sauce)I chose the peculiar pork chop (thats its name for real!) it was delicious with a great sauce made with plums. I ordered the side of pinkeye peas and rice...this was phenomenal!!! with lima beans Carolina gold rice, cream and bacon drippings. I could have eaten this by itself and not had to have the chop. But Im a southern man that grew up on beans and rice and didn't have meat lots of times.Everything went well with a bottle of Beaujolais, and considering we had cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and a bottle of wine we got out for under $170 and for the peninsula of Charleston an evening meal for that price is considered not a bad deal!I will be back!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a wonderful experience!! Went when we had friends in
What a wonderful experience!! Went when we had friends in town and everybody loved this place! The environment was light, airy and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was incredible! We knew we had to order the blueberry wings because nobody have ever heard of them before, they were sweet & delicious - they did have a lot of sauce, so if I sauce is t your thing maybe ask for it on the side - but I loved it! The shrimp dish was flavorful with a heavy, tasty, cream sauce -definitely a comfort food for me! I loved my catfish, it was lightly fried and so delicious. The steak may have stole the show - it was tender and easy to cut, not one bite was left because the flavor couldn't be left behind. And of course I always recommend ordering fries for the table! They paired great with every entree
Be the first to ReplyMy mom is obsessed with Vivian Howard so we had to come
My mom is obsessed with Vivian Howard so we had to come here. We've visited almost all of her restaurants now. This restaurant is out of the Renaissance hotel but also has its own entrance outside. The bar is in the center and is the focal point. The tables circle on the outside of the bar. Overall, it's a nice atmosphere. They have a nice variety of cocktails offered. My mother and I decided to split a few dishes. As an appetizer we had the corn fritters with apple butter, it was tasty! They were light and a great dish to share between 2-4 people if you are just looking for a couple of bites. We also shared the squash casserole (carolina gold rice, sausage, cabbage, fontina cheese). I think this was my favorite dish! I don't like cabbage but could barely taste it. The flavors really molded together well. For dinner my mom had the brown butter shrimp with butternut squash ribbons, olives, and cream. She thought it was ok but liked the other dishes more. One side dish we split was the peas & rice (pink eye peas, butter beans, bacon, cream, jasmine rice, scallions). I liked the unique flavor of the dish and thought it was a good side. We also split the fancy mash potatoes which were very smooth and almost had a light smoky flavor. They were ok but I could skip them. Overall, good experience! Service was friendly!
Be the first to ReplyMy two girlfriends and I like to go out and try a new place
My two girlfriends and I like to go out and try a new place every month or so and we picked Lenoir. It was not a bad experience by any means, but honestly it was unremarkable. We had a reservation and we were sat immediately. The service was not great. We had to wait about 15 minutes just to give a drink order to our server. I had to ask for my water to be refilled, and we weren't offered another drink. Just felt like very strange service throughout the meal. We ended up being there for over two and a half hours and it was not because we were sitting there chatting. We ordered 3 apps, 3 entrees and 2 desserts. The cornbread fritters we think we're raw inside. The okra was good- but because they were fried in long spears it made it difficult to eat. They were tough and my teeth could barely bite the okra. The fried collards were good. Our entrees were good, but not great. They were out of one dessert we wanted, the others were good, not great. The restaurant was very cute, but the bathroom was in an adjacent hotel and it was such a mess. Toilet paper was everywhere and no power towels. Overall, I would probably go back if someone else wanted to, but it would not be my choice. Overall, the review was "just okay" from all 3 of us.

My only complaint is I ran out of room in my stomach and couldn't eat dessert! Drove over an hour just for dinner and it was worth every mile. My favorite dish was the peaches with county ham. The design of the space is beautiful. All the tables were full, but it didn't feel overcrowded or crammed. We got there early and had drinks at the bar. I come to Charleston a lot, and this is my new favorite restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyGreat drinks.
Nice atmosphere. Not crazy overpriced. 100% have to get the fried collards; they were unbelievably good. Patty melt was fantastic. Service was great as well. Would definitely go back.

There is definitely a lot to like about Lenoir, but in my humble opinion, I wasn't blown away. Everything tasted good, but it wasn't a particularly memorable meal. I've been wanting to go here for quite some time and I did enjoy my dinner. The scallops were cooked really well, but they were served on a bed of corn. It's not this wasn't tasty, but I guess for $34 dollars I expected a little more. I did, however, enjoy the ham wrapped peaches and their fries are super good! The service was top notch, no complaints there. In conclusion, check it out, you won't be disappointed, but I guess for me, this will probably be my last time.
Be the first to ReplyStopped into Lenoir for a bite to eat before a welcome
Stopped into Lenoir for a bite to eat before a welcome party event, and it was just what we needed to fuel up for the rest of the evening. We sat at the bar and didn't have to wait at all for a seat. The bartender was very helpful with not only choosing drinks but also food. We got the catfish and the collared greens/grits which eats like a spinach artichoke dip! Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyYes!!This was our favorite meal of the trip.
The decor was simple and beautiful. I loved the pops of yellow color. The wine list had enough to choose from, however we would've loved bigger glasses. The service was fantastic. They were efficient and took away silverware and plates between each course. That's how it should be!The food...... This is where they shine. We are always on the search for the yummiest burger. While the Patty melt is not a traditional burger, everything about it was so good. It's messy, greasy, buttery, has flavor, delicious toppings. I think this may have surpassed our favorite burger in Napa. You must also get the grits and greens. That was not on our radar but when our server mentioned it's a dip, we were all in. That was our second favorite thing we ate on this trip behind the Patty melt. The sausage appetizer was also so good and was my husband's third favorite thing on the trip. Shout out to the strawberry appetizer and to the cornbread. The Farro was also super interesting. We just couldn't stop ordering food because we were so curious. Personally I would pass on the trout toast. For dessert, our favorite was the chess pie. While the carrot cake was fresh and moist, I think it needed a bit more sweetness. To us, the bill was very reasonable for the quality of food and a bottle of wine. This was perfect for our last night in Charleston. We will compare all other restaurants here to Lenoir.
Be the first to ReplyLenoir is perhaps the most overrated restaurant I've been
Lenoir is perhaps the most overrated restaurant I've been to in Charleston. Apart from the patty melt & fries, the rest of the entrees out party of six had were unremarkable - not bad, not great. Too many other excellent restaurants in Charleston to waste a meal here. The worst part: The "ceviche-style" Scallops appetizer was atrocious. The scallops were DEFINITELY bad - as in foul smelling, putrid tasting, and weird texture. We reported this to our server, who takes them back to the kitchen. The manager (?) comes out and says "the chef smelled and tasted them and they were fine". I can guarantee you that did NOT happen. We've eaten lots of scallops - prepared lots of different ways - and we've never smelled scallops this off apart from maybe a bait shop. Things happen, and suppliers can bring a bad item or two occasionally, but surely the kitchen could've realized these were bad before bringing them out. I'd have had more respect for this place if they hadn't tried to lie about the scallops being "just fine". Classic example of "don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining".
Be the first to ReplyCame for family dinner for graduation.
In the Renaissance hotel. Excellent service. Fawn made the night special. Food was outstanding. SmallMenu but everything was essentially covered. Patty melt a home run. The farro was outstanding as well. Everyone left full and happy including the kids. Worth it.

Exceptional service, Exceptional Cuisine!Love this place! Good drinks too at the very comfortable bar stools at the Bar.Fried Collards are off the Hook - so good. The strawberries and stracciatella appetizer was an amazing experience your mouth will not forget soon. The k-town patty melt hit the main spot with a warm yummy feeling. Let me not forget about the Carrot Cake that was inhaled for fear of being stolen. WoWzA! I'm coming back soon!
Be the first to ReplyLenoir's "Fancy" menu only offers a small amount of what
Lenoir's "Fancy" menu only offers a small amount of what anyone would actually want to order. Strawberries & Stratiatella are just way overpriced strawberries. The Stratiatella is cream and not enough of it to even taste, so basically just some strawberries for $14. Veggie of the Moment - terrible, don't even bother. Cornbread is flat and the only flavor that comes through is oil. Server and then manager came over to ask why we hadn't eaten the Veggie of Moment and then didn't offer anything else as a replacement so why bother asking.
Be the first to ReplyAnother excellent signature establishment by Vivian Howard!
Another excellent signature establishment by Vivian Howard! We visited the one in Kingston and the other in Wilmington after watching her PBS series. The cuisine is simple, inclined but not uniquely southern and served with detail to fresh, local ingredients and perfect preparation. Lenoir was consistent. Had the roasted beet salad, the pan-fried catfish, mashed potatoes and the corn bread. Delicious! For dessert we ordered the carrot cake and chocolate ganache. Both perfectly executed and presented. The atmosphere was a little noisier to ur liking but the decor and ambience more than compensated for it. Don't miss this gem of a gastronomic experience if in Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyThis place lived up to what I thought and more.
I've followed Vivian with her television series. The food is phenomenal. Atmosphere is perfect for a casual, yet upscale dinner. Book a reservation and enjoy the meal! Well worth it!
Be the first to ReplyVivian never disappoints.
Great food, atmosphere, and drink list. Handy and hot next door (Vivian's breakfast & lunch) also good.
Be the first to ReplyLast night was my second time going to Lenoir.
..both times I've had a wonderful time and great food and drinks. However, I've had the same negative experience both times. Each time I've been an Lenior, I've sat at the bar and had been disappointed to find that the bartenders are the opposite of friendly. It was not busy last night and yet they interacted with us the bare minimum possible, never once smiled or engaged with us. Each time we needed their attention I felt bad like I was bothering them because their attitudes were both so nonchalant. If I was only a one-time customer I would brush this experience off as them both maybe being tired or having other things on their mind, but it was the same as last time. In my last visit, I couldn't decide on a cocktail so I asked if he wouldn't mind creating a hybrid between a few of the drinks for me. Again, I felt bad as he seemed bothered by my request and not in the least bit excited about creating something unique. The way he acted made me feel as though I was inconveniencing him rather than excited for the challenge as I believe a great bartender would be! Seeing as the bar is the focal point of this restaurant, as a business owner I would want the 'beating heart' of the room to be staffed by people who are friendly and seem to genuinely love what the do. This would certainly seem to match the cheerful interior and playful food more to me! Lenior is a great place, but because the vibe is such a bummer, I would no longer recommend it as a spot to go grab drinks with friends!

Recommended by a friend, I watched a couple episodes of A Chef's Life and made reservations for our 25th anniversary trip. We found the ambiance warm and the staff very warm, knowledgeable and happy with their jobs. The cocktails were very creative and tasty!! Love, love, loved the Grits and greens appetizer. Our server (Fawn) was cheerful, attentive and quite charming. Her recommendations were spot on! Our entrees were delicious. Our service was impeccable. We would highly recommend Lenoir to anyone who enjoys relaxed dining and quality food and service! We look forward to a return visit.
