3 chef course tasting was excellent but the service is what really took the spotlight of the evening. Our server was extremely helpful with the wine tastings and patient with us while we deciding on the wine. The food was good and portions were appropriate. Dinner for the chef tasting and two glasses of wine came in just at $200 for two of us with tax and tip.

The tasting menu was yummy, my favorite was either the caesar salad or the tortellini :)
Be the first to ReplyThe setting has potential to be an awesome date spot.
The food was very mediocre all around. We had the crab fingers (very dry, flavorless without the chili oil), shrimp tostadas (cold shrimp made tostada limp), pork mole was ok, drum fish was the best thing we had. The service was also just ok. It felt like everyone there was on a first or second date from a dating website.

Took advantage of their half off 5 course tasting menu, which made the venue accessible. Wish we could have made it for their happy hour, but the anniversary special was popular and it was hard to get a reservation. Excellent lighting on the cool, oak-tree lined wine bar. Loved the lighting. The flower arrangement of dried out flowers was a little sad, and the pop techno music wasn't our favorite, but it seems like all the restaurants go for this upbeat dance music. Yuck. BUT THE FOOD! And our waitress! And the bartender, Clinton! Those things were just wonderful. It feels like a home-spun family-run place, and I love that. Thank you for the special event, Todd and Jess!

We'd been wanting to try Lenoir for quite some time and decided to take advantage of the half off chef's tasting menu during their anniversary week. Boy am I glad we did! To start, the ambiance out in the wine garden is unmatched. It's extremely charming. The food was unlike anything we've ever had not just in Austin, but perhaps ever. The flavor combinations were so unique and memorable. We loved everything we had from the Pullman bread, to the crab fingers, cauliflower, gnocchi, pork and chocolate mousse. The service was excellent and our courses were paced out perfectly. All in all this was a 10/10 experience and we will be back to try more! This is one of the few restaurants left in Austin where the food is actually worth the price.
Be the first to ReplyWHAT A TREAT! Lenoir Restaurant truly delivered a memorable
WHAT A TREAT! Lenoir Restaurant truly delivered a memorable dining experience that exceeded our expectations. Revisiting after a few years, we were delighted to celebrate their 12-year anniversary with a special offer - half-priced 5-course chef's choice at $40. The added bonus of arriving during happy hour made our evening even more enjoyable, with half-priced bottles of wine under $100. GREAT SERVICE! Our server, Emma, played a pivotal role in enhancing our experience. Her wine recommendations were spot-on, and we appreciated her attentive and friendly service throughout the evening. EATS! Seated with a group of six - a mix of vegetarians and omnivores - the menu catered to all tastes. Four out of the five dishes were versatile and received unanimous praise from the entire group. While the chargrilled cabbage for the vegetarians wasn't a huge hit, the pork shoulder with purple carrot mole for the meat eaters was a standout, showcasing the chef's creativity and skill. Despite the multi-course format, we were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes, which were filling without being overwhelming. Each course left us satiated and eager for the next. PARKING! The restaurant's location made it convenient, with a small parking lot and available street parking along Mary Street. We particularly enjoyed dining in the magical wine garden, where we could bring our pup along. The ambiance was cozy and comfortable, thanks to heat lamps and fire-pits, making it a perfect setting for a delightful evening. In summary, Lenoir Restaurant's 12-year anniversary special, combined with impeccable service, delectable dishes, and a charming ambiance, made for a truly delightful dinner. We left with a renewed appreciation for this gem of a restaurant and look forward to returning for more memorable experiences.
Be the first to ReplyWe visited Lenoir on an anniversary trip to Austin.
The place is comfortable and just a little quirky. We loved every dish, especially the shrimp toast. The cheesecake was lifechanging. It was served warm, and it was unexpectedly savory - made with talleggio rather than boxed cream cheese. Absolutely amazing. The bartender helped us out with wine pairings and nailed it. 100% would recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance can't be beat.
We sat in their enclosed and heated garden behind the restaurant and get like we were in a fairy garden. The food was delicious and unique. We opted for a bunch of their appetizers bc we wanted to keep it light but their tasting menu look intriguing as well. Our winter was kind and on point with his recommendations. He checked on us multiple times without hovering. It was a great dinner and we will definitely be back.

Friendly staff, cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seatings, but the food was okay. We sat in the back patio for a party of five. We ordered the five course tasting menu, but it was nothing special and most items were already on the a la carte menu. Some dishes had more flavor while other dishes were lacking flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the experience because the staff were great, but everything was on the pricey side.

Lenoir has been on my list of "must visit" restaurants for several years, but I didn't make it happen until recently. It was less expensive than expected, especially if you're lucky enough to visit on a Wednesday for their half-off bottles of sparkling wine and champagne promotion. Our server was funny and extremely nice, and was passionate about every detail of our meal, including the local origin of each ingredient. We started off with Lenoir's signature blue corn and pecan hushpuppies with sweet corn queso fresco. I love hushpuppies but am often met with disappointing dry blobs of cornmeal. This was not the case at Lenoir. Lenoir's hushpuppies are everything I look for -- crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, and perfectly cooked. We next ordered the blistered gai lan with chili crisp, fresh valley citrus, and hakurei turnip. It was like broccolini with a flavor explosion in your mouth. The spaghetti alla chitarra was equally delicious, with homemade noodles, garlic caramel, fried shallots, and Fresno. Don't skip dessert - we ordered a candied hibiscus torte with chocolate mousse that was perfectly fruity without being too sweet. Overall, Lenoir was an experience that was even better than I expected. I love their incorporation of local produce and the small, cozy vibe of their restaurant. I don't recommend visiting starving, to avoid making a larger dent in your wallet, but I found every course we ordered to be priced and portioned well, and cheaper in comparison to the similar quality Odd Duck and 1417. I look forward to my next visit.
Be the first to ReplyGood wine.
Great service. Horrible portions. The plates are very small and more like micro appetizers.
Be the first to Replyfirst time in austin and we had lenoir for our anniversary
first time in austin and we had lenoir for our anniversary dinner. we had the chef's choice dinner + wine pairings. gia was an amazing server- she was versed in all of the flavors, pairings, wine history, all of it. she made everything feel perfect and made sure we had everything we needed. we also cannot explain how amazing the food was- everything worked so well together! lovely presentation. overall it was genuinely an experience instead of just a meal. we will definitely be back to austin if only for lenoir. thank you to lenoir, the chef, and especially to gia! this restaurant is second to none.

I had been looking forward to trying Lenoir but was really underwhelmed by the chef's choice menu. Of the five courses, four were spicy - each dish had hot sauce, chili oil or was prepared in a pepper sauce. Had I known that it would just be repetitive heat, I would have selected to order a la carte. Portions were small and the only item that stood out was the poha crusted tilefish. I didn't see the value for $88/person.By the end of the meal, I wasn't fully satiated which makes the experience even more of a bummer. However, the service was on point and dishes/silverware were cleared with each course. The parking lot is tiny - heads up that diners seem to make up their own parking spaces, by the time I came out I was half blocked in by another car.

I came here for a special set course menu with a friend and we also purchased their wine pairing to go with our meal. The wine pairings changed my mind about wine. I know nothing about wines except that I had never had one I actually enjoyed until I ate at Lenoir. The wine pairings went perfectly with each dish, which I guess is the point of a wine pairing, but I was really impressed by how well each wine complimented each course. It was also the perfect amount of food and we left feeling satisfied. The next two times I came, we ordered off of their regular menu. Many of the dishes we had were comprised of Asian ingredients, but I could tell careful attention was paid into the crafting of each dish so that they didn't come off as a fusiony gimmick, but rather created new and interesting dishes with rich flavors. The service was great and I loved the touch of the eclectic blend of dishware and silverware that was replaced after each course.

Went for their five course chefs menu while it was half off in the middle of January. What a wonderful experience! Each dish was wonderfully seasoned. The hush puppies were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and I loved them even though I don't usually like hush puppies very much. The shrimp was super tender and juicy. The beef cheek just fell apart with the touch of a fork. The chocolate dessert was super decadent without being cloying. The two of us left full (which is not something I usually expect from chef menus). Also, love that there are blankets (and heat lamps) if you are sitting outside and feeling a little chilly.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the perfect date night.
We did the chefs tasting menu and a half off happy hour bottle of wine. Couldn't recommend more. The staff was knowledgeable and we let them choose everything. Can't go wrong here!
Be the first to ReplyI've eaten at Lenoir twice, and had excellent experiences
I've eaten at Lenoir twice, and had excellent experiences both times. Last night's was easily a top dining experience for Austin: in part because the meal was outstanding (best hushpuppies I've ever had, delicious sauce on grilled turnips, an amazing little shrimp toast, rich akaushi beef on sweet potato puree, and a decadent dessert) -- and in even greater part because the five courses cost a whopping $39. Keep an eye on Lenoir's instagram for its annual-ish half-price chef's menu (it just concluded a five-day run) and make a reservation IMMEDIATELY when you see it. It books up fast. The dinner alone was great, but I sprang for the $58 wine pairing, which ended up being five glasses of wine... definitely poured on the heavy side. Talk about decadence... and outstanding value. I'm still full.Really friendly, engaging server. Lovely atmosphere. I'll be back again.Sadly, didn't take any pics.

We had a hugely disappointing experience at Lenoir prior to our wedding last spring, and I haven't been able to shake it. My now-husband and I wanted to have an intimate dinner, just the two of us, the evening before the wedding. I had been to Lenoir years ago, not long after it opened, and very much enjoyed my experience back then. My husband had never been but had heard good things, and he decided it was nice and romantic enough to book for this special dinner. I'm struggling to find many positive things to say about the evening. First, we were seated at a wobbling table on a sloped part of the patio area. I get that it's supposed to be charming, but I'd expect a more elevated atmosphere than gravel and wonky metal dining sets for the price point. The table might not have been a big deal if it were any other date night, but we kindly asked to be reseated at another open table. They begrudgingly moved us, which was an off-putting start to the meal. Our waiter arrived and was fairly nice and friendly. He brought us a bottle of their house lambrusco when we told him what we were celebrating, so I (incorrectly) thought maybe things would turn around. However, the first two courses we had were nothing special to me and my husband straight up did not like them. I held out hope that the main course would rescue the dinner. At least 20 (might have been more than 30?) minutes after our 2nd course was not only finished but cleared, our waiter was nowhere to be found. We finally flagged another waitstaff down (who said she was the manager), and said we would prefer to cancel the last course, as we had been waiting quite a while and were not hungry anymore. Instead of saying "no problem" or, "we'll comp it" - she said it was on it's way and disappeared into the back. Our final entree (a fish dish in some sort of coconut curry broth I believe) was delivered to the table shortly thereafter. While it tasted better than the other courses, we didn't finish even half of it. All said and done, we left paying over $300 for the food alone, thoroughly underwhelmed and regretting the reservation entirely. I would not recommend coming here for a special event. In the worst case the quality has gone downhill across the board; in the best case, it is inconsistent and I wouldn't take the risk to come here to celebrate a big milestone. It was a huge bummer that night and overall. I do really like to support old Austin favorites and to see them thrive, but I'm going to say pass on Lenoir and support the other classics in '04 :-/
Be the first to ReplyProbably the worst meal I've had in a long time.
We were very specific about what we wanted, even order directly from the menu, which we were told multiple times was the wrong menu. However we were brought new menus that were the same. Was served a sour beer instead of the farmhouse ale. Sours are nasty. Asked repeatedly if the braised pork belly was fully finished all the way through. Should've known when the wait staff was evasive about any kind of answer of how it was cooked it was raw not even really cooked. OK it was brown on the outside. And all nobody really ate any of the dishes ordered and delivered we had a bite may be of each spit some of it out.The manager did comp the entire bill. But who cares, don't waste my time if you don't know how to cook, stock a bar, or deliver the correct menu.We were handed off to the manager who then wasn't capable of even serving us we sat for long periods of time waiting for somebody to come back finally flag somebody else down. All in all one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in decades.
Be the first to ReplyStarted off with a bang but fizzled out.
Nice outdoor space with friendly staff and chill vibes. We stopped in with a party of 4 and got the 5 course chef's menu, and some appetizers off of the menu. The waitress helped pick a tasty bottle of wine and the first courses along with some small dishes quickly came out. Our favorite dishes were: 1) Crab fingers (great flavors)2) Crudo (fish was extremely fresh, and very tasty)3) House-made pullman bread (buttery and warm)Both the NY Strip and radish dishes were far too salty for our taste, we weren't entirely sure if it was supposed to be that salty or if it was a mistake but I would definitely pass on these dishes in the future. Maybe if there was a mash or something to soak up the salt it wouldn't have been so bad. The dessert that came at the end of the meal was a flan; we found the nutmeg flavor in the flan's topping to be way too strong but when we scraped it off, the flan was actually quite good.Lenoir offers a great value for your dollar, if we do make another stop here, I think we know which dishes to stick to and those to avoid.
Be the first to ReplyWe did the prefix menu and it didn't disappoint.
The staff are amazing and ambiance outside is charming. Our dishes flowed well and tasted even.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for my wife's birthday with some friends and we
Came here for my wife's birthday with some friends and we all agreed it was probably the best meal of our lives. The courses all featured spice in very well balanced dishes, and as a person who doesn't normally search out spicy food I had no regrets after this experience. The crab fingers were a fun and light way to start things off, just enough to whet the appetite without being heavy. I loved the curry sauce and the chili oil was enough to feel it but not enough to overwhelm the crab or curry. Next was a tuna tartare with more spice, this was really good but probably my least favorite of all the dishes. The biggest surprise for me was the charred cabbage. It was marinated lightly and then seared over flame, and the combination of those two steps made it extremely flavorful and easy to eat. I don't normally think of cabbage as something exciting, but combined with the spices and furikake mushroom curry sauce I'd go back just for this! Absolutely floored my whole party. The main course of pork three ways over dirty rice and greens was a hit, with a lightly tangy mustard sauce and simple, excellent flavors all around. Finally, dessert was a delicious cake with I believe a pumpkin sauce topped with a heavy cream and pumpkin seeds. I'd punch a child just to have that sauce alone, the rest was a bonus. Most of my group did the wine course, allergies had me under the weather so I had only one glass and a few samples. Everyone agreed the wines paired really well, although feelings were mixed on the necessity of the dessert wine given the dessert was sweet enough. That being said, no one had complaints after the trip and we are eagerly planning our next outing. The staff was amazing and we felt very well taken care of all night long. My compliments to Lenoir for a wonderful evening!
Be the first to ReplyOur dinner at Lenoir was magical.
We sat outside under a gorgeous tree, adorned with beautiful glass lanterns on a cool, moonlit night drinking bottles of wine and feasting on the chef's choice menu option, while trying not to fill up on one of the best bread plates you will ever experience. Each course was a bonafide gastronomical treat, coupled with unique and delicious wine pairings and curated by an exceptional staff with a level of fine dining service you are unlikely to ever experience in an environment as laid back as Lenoir. And the desserts were incredible. We ordered them all. Highly, highly recommend. We loved it, think of it often and can not wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyWe were so disappointed in this restaurant.
No cocktails, only beer and wine. We did the tasting menu and it was awful. One dish was just cabbage. Nothing else....a 1/4 head of cabbage. The sauce with it was good but who wants to eat just cabbage for a dish? The wine was so bad - even on its own but none of it paired with the dishes. We're coming from SF so we're spoiled but at least match the wine with the flavors of the dishes. We were still hungry after the tasting menu and ordered the tagliatelle - which was amazing. All in all, it was a letdown and we will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyAs I drove up, I was unsure of parking and which building
As I drove up, I was unsure of parking and which building to go to! After I was pointed to the correct destination I found the ambiance to be quaint and inviting with a nice hint of sophistication. A semi-open kitchen with a trendy bar area invited me to relax and enjoy the evening on Lenoirs terms. I'm a former chef, however when I order beverages, I prefer to tell the staff my interests and let them suggest my vino(s) of the night. My waiter proved to be worth his salt as my 'pearl snap' which was perfect. I'm not a fan of IPAs so this suited my palate. As for the wine, I opted for the matthieu barret from Rhone. I told the waiter I prefer French wines, especially being at a French restaurant and this beverage didn't disappoint. It was a light bodied wine with a great bouquet that kept me guessing what flavors were prominent. The Syrah/Shiraz seemed to have hints of oak and cherries while other flavors I couldn't pick out but in a fun way.Our evening started with the "crab fingers". The crab was cooked perfectly however I there wasn't much meat on them and picking at the claw proved tedious and the chili oil was a bit hot. That said the curry leafe leche was a true delight. We also opted for the tuna tartare which was fresh but the salsa macha again seemed to be aped up on heat. More on the heat aspects later. As for dinner my date and I both opted for the oxtail tagliatelle. Again, heat was the star of the dish. I then asked the waiter why every dish had such a heat signature and they said it's fusion to the local vibe. To me I can't take heat so it brings the occasion down. That said, there's a true skill in the dish as the oxtail was cooked to perfection. Tender and flavorful while the kale provided a nice flavor contract being sharp to cut the fat from the oxtail. The pasta was al dente and married well with the sauce. Besides the heat, this dish was outstanding! The waiter suggested a desert wine of Malvasia-trebbiano. I wasn't a fan but my date loved it. Also it paired wonderfully with the coffee semifreddo. This desert was classy, filling, not to sweet and a wonderful capper to the evening. All said, I really enjoyed my experience at Lenoirs and I suggest this establishment to anyone that wants to add flair to a first date while not being pretentious. The food is skillfully crafted, the wait staff knows their restaurant and the ambiance is romantic. An inviting experience not to be missed.
