Jurong Point has a section in the mall that looks to be designed to cater to Hong Kong people. It's all Cantonese (and English because it's Singapore), so I'm interested. This place, Legendary Hong Kong, has some damn fine traditional HK food and BBQ. The roast duck is super delicious- skin is crispy and the meat under it is tender and juicy. I'm from Seattle (USA), and the HK BBQ in our Chinatown is good at best (definitely not great), so I really was able to appreciate this roast duck. Also, the char siew and siu yok is really good. There needs to be some fat on this meat in order for it to have good flavor. This has that fatty melty goodness that I usually never get in Seattle (hate char siew that's dry and hard). Also, the congee-century egg and meatball are nice hearty options. And the sui kao tong mein is really good. Noodles are springy and soak up that broth for a good bouncy texture. You order by checklist. Menu is huge. Overall, it's very good. Ho sik mo? Ho sik!

We ordered dry tossed noodles, congee with century eggs, assorted meat, bean sprout with salted fish and deep fried pepper squid. Everything was delicious. The texture of the tossed noodles was just perfect. Enjoyed the meal tremendously. However, our chestnut drink and Pomelo drink were extremely sweet. We asked for water to water down the drinks but was told they they would need to charge for the water. She brought us ice instead. Although that was a nice gesture, it is just strange that they would charge the water. For future reference, bring a bottle of water to water down your own drinks. Lol!
Be the first to ReplyThis is by far the best HK style restaurant in Singapore.
This place is big and the wait isn't horrible even on weekends. We went there last time with a of 8 people on a Sat evening. We were seated within 20 mins, not bad. I enjoy their wide selection menu and offered authentic HK drinks like milk tea and Iced lemon tea. They have really good pineapple buns and they are also very creative that you can choose the "stuffing". Their BBQ meat section is hit-and-miss. Sometimes you get yummy roasted duck but then the next time not so great. Normally I get their BBQ pork and pork belly and they are not bad. They also serve dim sum and most of them are pretty good. I hope the portion can be bigger. I really like their porridge and it tastes exactly like the one I had when I live in HK. Wonton soup is good, too. Not so much on their main dish or rice dish except their steam rice (it takes 25 mins to prepare). Every time we go there, we end up ordering a lot of food. There are just too much to try! They also have an app to earn rewards. The GM there is from HK and he is a nice funny guy. Most staff do not speak Cantonese which is sad. I was hoping it opens for breakfast as well.

When a HK friend told me about this place where they get their HK food cravings satisfied, I am seriously intrigued. For the past year my go-to place is Imperial Treasure Windows of HK in Somerset so I am looking forward to expanding my HK menu options here. This restaurant is actually more accurately described as a Hong Kong dining "concept" since it is 4 restaurants rolled into one - a cha charn teng (loosely a HK style diner), a dim sum place, a cantonese bbq/roast place and a noodle and congee shop. It is also situated in this peculiar Hong Kong street inside the Jurong Point Mall. Not sure who or why someone came up with the idea of recreating a HK street complete with flashing neon light signs. To me it looks more like shenzhen with all its tackiness but it is interesting to see how Singaporeans view HK? There was a short line when we arrived so I guess this place is quite popular? Even though there are 4 different eating space in the restaurant, you enter in the same entrance and you can order everything from any corner inside. We were seated in the diner space and the menu looks extensive. I ended up ordering the rice with stewed pork cartilage. My friend had the rice with tofu and roasted pork, which I have to say is as authentic as you can get in terms of HK local fastfood fare and I was excited that I found this dish in Singapore. Well, it turned out that food was only ok, I will give it a passing grade. The pork cartilage tasted like it was from a pot of cartilage used for cooking soup and then they just added seasoning to it coz the sauce and the meat do not blend, it also has that texture when you cook meat in broth for a long time so I was a bit disappointed. The tofu and roasted pork was better and I guess I will return for that when I have a craving. The milk tea is good and I would recommend that. On my way up to the restaurant I saw signs of a Korean street and a Japanese street and I wonder what they are like. Reason to go back to Jurong, which is not exactly close to town but was actually a lot quicker on the MRT than you would have imagined, and Jurong Point is right next to the MRT station so do check this out if you find yourself in the west side of the island.
Be the first to ReplyA must try due to its duck, wanton and bo luo baos.
Those dishes alone will make me go back again and again to legendary hong kong. Lets hope the standards remains.
