Le Rivage New York Reviews from The Last Year
Great place for a Friday night with no reservations.
Was seated had water and bread and enjoyed the most delicious French onion soup.
Excellent service and food.
Very good for pre Theatre meal. They will have you out in time. Reasonable prices.
We were seated in the enclosed outdoor space which was fine.
Definitely not the vibe of the inside restaurant, but we aren't picky even though prices kind of reflect a nice French restaurant. You can do the price fixed meal or ala carte. I recommend anyone to see both menus to determine if it's worth it based on what you're ordering as some things such as the burger aren't expensive enough to make the fixed meal worth it. As for service, it was not at all quick despite being a theater district place. Took a long time to get our first order of drinks, and then the wine bottle also took forever and we had to check in. There were 4 of us and they gave us a SINGLE PIECE OF BREAD for the table. Are you kidding me? That's the cheapest thing they can do and yet they are so stingy they won't give more than that? 3 of us ordered price fixed and one just got ala carte. 2 French onion soup burgers which were really good but over cooked. Ordered medium and medium rare, both came out closer to medium well. They were delicious though! Caesar salads were pretty weak. I got the escargot which I loved. One got the additional cost steak for $22 more and it was well over cooked, also in the medium well range which is very frustrating. In hindsight should have complained. I got the beef bourguignon which was tasty but had 3 pieces of meat and some mashed potatoes. Would have liked a bigger portion. For dessert we got 2 of the "special" bread pudding which was just ok. I got a molten chocolate cake which was again good tasting but kinda sad looking. All told we were decently happy but not thrilled with this place. Not rushing back.

I came here before a show, and, while their $46 three-course prix fixe lunch is a pretty good deal, I still don't think it was worth it. First of all, their seafood crepe didn't taste like a French crepe, it tasted like a bad American crepe. The salmon I got for my entree tasted fishy in a way salmon should not. The molten chocolate cake was okay but I've had better.
Great pre-fixe before theatre.
Really enjoyed the escargot, the seafood crepe, and the French onion soup burger (YUM) as well as the service and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Food 10 Service 9 Ambiance 10 Love this place makes me feel like I am in Paris. Great place and their lunch price fixe is well worth the price
I went for brunch with 2 others.
We all got the prix fix. I got the French onion soup, the beef bourguignon, and crème brûlée. One of the others in my party had the Caesar Salad, croquettes masseur, and the peach Melba. The other had the Caesar salad, the beef bourguignon, and chocolate mousse. We all tasted each others desserts. Everything was great. The only issue is the one who ordered the croque Masseur didn't love how creamy the cheese was, but I tasted it and thought it was amazing. The ambiance in the restaurant was also really nice with nice art on the walls.

I arrived prior to our reservation so I could have a cocktail at the bar and scope things out. The bartender made me a delicious Vesper Martini and I took in the entire establishment smiling all the while. It's a gem. The minute you walk into the place you feel like you've gone through a portal. The lovely hostess was welcoming and accommodating. My friend arrived and we were ushered to a great table with front row seats to the live entertainment. We ordered from the established prix fixe menu landing on pate, escargot, moules, and steak frites. Everything was very good and the service was attentive and professional. After finishing our bottle of wine we were having such a nice time we ordered one more glass to enjoy with our desserts. The creme brûlée and peach tart were a lovely end to the meal. This restaurant is an institution and frankly there are few remaining like it in NYC. The world of dining is ever changing but we found great comfort in an establishment full of nostalgia and old world charm.
I went for the week day prefix lunch and it was very good.
Service was excellent and the food was very good. I had escargot (which I love and haven't had in years) and trout amandine. My wife had a sea food bisque and Duck Al Orange. Sounds like a time capsule, right! That's a wonderful thing. There was a time when the theater district was filled with French restaurants. They were " bourgeois " rather than haute and they were wonderful! They are mostly gone. Long may this one run! It's nice having an alternative to Italian food ( much as I like it).

I had the absolute Pleasure of going to Le Rivage for the first time today for Lunch. I Brought my Father with me as he first introduced me to French cuisine from his rustic french upbringing. I am so glad I did. Both him and I haven't eaten as much as we did in a very long time but every time we got a course, we loved it so much we ordered more and more things off the menu. We started by splitting a French onion soup Burger (DO NOT PASS ON THIS) and we were off to the races! Escargot, mussels, beef bourguignon, a lamb shank special that was absolutely DIVINE. The staff were super friendly and our waiter even told us about a secret menu hack! ( Next time you get fries ask for a side of au pouvre sauce and pour it on like gravy on Disco fries... what can I say except, You're Welcome!) We are so looking forward to the next time we will be in the city to make this our new French Dining spot!

The main page will typically show you restaurants rankings based on city. I am new too and its been mostly guess work and trying the ones that are high ranking. I right now am sticking to top 10's but still waiting to hit that first sale.
