Be the first to ReplyGreat French experience, like be8ng back in Paris
We had dinner at L’Entrecote a week ago Friday. It’s a great restaurant and a wonderful experience.
This is a French bistro/brasserie type place. Very French. Bright inside, lots of shiny wood, polished brass, mirrors and flowers. Very attractive.
Here’s the most important thing to know. They only serve one entree. It’s sliced steak with a great sauce, lots of French fries and a green salad. The only decision you need to make is how you would like your steak cooked. This entree runs about $32.00, which in midtown Manhattan, is a steal.
The steak was great. There was no chance we could finish the French fries. I recall they bring extra if you do.
The wine list is interesting. They have about a dozen selections, by the bottle. The range is about $32 to $39, which is a great deal. They offer pommery champagne by the bottle at $65, which is another great deal. They sell wine by the glass too.
Service was excellent and attentive. They bring baguette slices, of course. They have a dessert menu with lots of choices.
This time I ordered wine from the top end of the range. It was excellent.
Are there negatives? Only the lack of choice regarding entrees, but that’s a feature of the place, something that makes it special.
The greatest compliment I can give is that it captures the spirit of the Paris branch of the restaurant.
Fantastique et Délicieux
This is a tradition already for me and my family. We have visited all locations Bordeoux, London, Mexico City, Paris and now New York. We simply love the taste and service. Is definitely worth the wait! You guys need one in Las Vegas!!

My friend asked for her steak rare, it came raw and cold; I said medium and it was rare, when I mentioned this to the server she gave me backtalk. Our plates came submerged in a heap of tired, elderly frites, and the sauce was oily. Our second portion of steak was just dumped on our plates ready or not. The salad was not as good as before, and we had no bread provided although others were given some. The service was slow and grumpy, very unprofessional. I felt very bad as I was treating my friend for her birthday. We left without taking coffee or dessert, and will certainly not return.

I've eaten in this restaurant many times since it opened in New York and, in the past, always had a very positive experience. Excellent food and friendly professional service. But not today: The salad was ordinary with a tasteless dressing. The steak, ordered rare. was raw and cold, thoroughly doused with a greasy, greyish brown sauce that was a very poor substitute for bearnaise. Only the french fries were decent, but slightly soggy, since they were piled on the steak and in the sauce. Our server was unpleasant, annoyed with any requests we made. All in all, a very disappointing experience.

Excellent. Just as it should be. Excellent meat with great fries and very good wine. Reasonable value for money. Overall good

New York is NOT a one-horse town but Le Relais de Venise is a one-horse restaurant and it does its specialty well. What is it known for: Steak frites. The restaurant is decorated in the style of a French bistro. We started with a wonderful Malbec that was light and fruity to the palate. We were not rushed and were left to converse and enjoy ourselves over the wine
Our dinner service started with a sliced baguette cruets of huile and cidre vinegar. We were treated to a delightful Caesar salad with a light dressing, bountiful grated cheese and crunchy croutons. The wait staff came around with the obligatory crushed pepper mill. Then came the pies de résistance; steak sliced thin accompanied with thin crispy frites piled high on the plate. The meat was done to perfection per individual request. The served sauce (a wonderful sauce mayonnaise moutarde) wasn’t necessary as the meat itself was well seasoned.
As we finished our plates, along came our sweet Ukrainian waitress with a platter containing a second entrée for each of us (again cooked to order with volumes of additional frites. While this restaurant only served one entrée, their desert card was beyond reproach as it listed selections from crème brulée to a gâteau à la mousse au chocolat and everything in between.
We will return to Le Relais our next time in NYC. If you are a "meat and potatoes" person, Le Relais is your place for entrecote. It is my pleasure to recommend this restaurant to you.
My First Visit
I was in town during the pandemic and passed this restaurant and realized that it was relatively new. Since they weren’t many options in this part of the city during the pandemic, I decided to try them out although I’m not a big eater of French cuisine. They only offer a tasty green salad with walnuts and mustard dressing, steak and fries which I thought was because of the pandemic but not true; it’s their only offering. I rarely eat steak anymore but found it to be delicious. The steak is pre-sliced in small pieces. I found the shoestring fries to be really good. I had creme brûlée for dessert and I’ve had better but it wasn’t bad. I enjoyed this restaurant and would return. The servers asked you if it’s your first visit then explain the choice of one entree and salad.
