Weekend at the magnificent castle
Very warm welcome, magnificent castle, splendid setting, royal rooms, excellent meal, no false notes, the view of the Loire in the morning is great. Thank you to all the staff for their complicity (surprise birthday)

The decoration is surprising, the setting magnificent, the cheese platter excellent, the royal rooms like the establishment, the impeccable attentive staff, subtle to discreetly fetch a bouquet of flowers from the trunk of your car and bring it at the right time
Be the first to ReplyAlmost perfect except for the breakfast.
We arrived at the Priory with exceptional weather for the season. So it appeared to us in all its splendor with a beautiful light on the castle and the Loire. Fairy! Very warm welcome at reception. The room negotiated by Voyage Privé is superb with its large terrace. The overall decor can seem kitsch because it is very busy. However, castles are often filled with memories and heterogeneous decorations so we didn't mind…. We are amazed. The room was very comfortable and well equipped. At this time of year there are few tourists and that makes retirees like us happy. We were warned that breakfast would be served at the table and not as a buffet, which is completely understandable. But what a disappointment!! You can find better even in guest rooms. We had never experienced this in a hotel of this category. We wanted a simple continental breakfast with bread, butter, jams and pastries: the classic. And coffee/milk, breakfast tea/milk. We were brought a cup of coffee, cold milk in another cup and tea + hot water. A small basket with 2 pieces of baguette, a mini croissant and a mini raisin bread for 2….? We were waiting for the second basket which was not planned.. I had to look for the service employee to get a little extra...(1 mini croissant) and another coffee. There was also butter and a small portion of jam per person. Plus 1 extra Anjou cream. Very disappointing this breakfast facing the Loire which leaves us with a bad impression for this charming hotel. It seems that in season the buffet is ok. Perhaps a lack of staff competence that day?

Average in every way The place announced something exceptional but the cuisine disappointed us Unique menu, little fantasy and originality Very classic wine list The decor is quite obtrusive which gives character to this straight RV Superb view of the valley
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Castle Stay
We did an overnight trip to Loire Valley and chose to stay in this chateau. We stayed in the Napoleon suite and wow!!! It was huge and beautiful. Extremely clean. We felt like a king and queen in this room. Unfortunately it was raining outside, but the view from the veranda was lovely and overlooked the Loire. The staff were friendly and welcoming. As it was off season, the chateau was very quiet with visitors which was nice. The grounds were lovely and the chateau itself is beautiful. We drove into Saumur which is fairly close by and has lots of shopping and restaurants. We also visited some wine caves that were close by to the chateau. We would love to stay here again if we visit Loire Valley.
Be the first to ReplyIt was better before, it's too expensive now!
The quality of the establishment is deteriorating. Accustomed to the place, I had my worst experience in over 10 years. The quality-price ratio has deteriorated significantly, the bathroom was not at the level of this type of establishment (bidet room, the toilet door ditto...) not to mention the absence of hot water when you wake up , chipped dishes etc... I was in a Deluxe room. Management only has 2 options left: invest and strengthen its team to reach standards or significantly lower prices!

A great welcome, a magnificent view, top staff, who adapted very quickly when we asked for an aperitif in the room for a birthday. The room was very comfortable and the restaurant delicious. We will definitely come back !
Be the first to ReplySplendid establishment
The view is incredible. The staff is very friendly. The receptionist takes the time to bring you to your room, taking care to show you the bar, the breakfast, etc. The room is very comfortable and very clean. The perfectly maintained thick carpet. The decor is certainly busy but perfectly chosen, don't go there if you like the refined style. The bar is very pleasant (it deserves a slightly more extensive cocktail menu) Buffet breakfast, with very good quality products. The gentleman who takes care of it is extremely vigilant to ensure that nothing is missing and that we are well settled. While being very discreet. The value for money is absolutely perfect. The only disappointment was that the restaurant was closed during our stay. We were warned and he took care to recommend a charming establishment nearby.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth a visit
We stayed here previously in 1988 and it had stayed in our memory as exceptional. The hotel is still beautiful with exceptional views but is in need of some attention. The receptionist was very welcoming and the room was beautifully cool on a hot day. The bedding was first class and the bathroom was clean and well provided. We had fa ntastic views of the Loire. Wifi did not work well in the bedroom however. The bar with views on the Loire was welcoming as were the amuses bouches provided. Pre starters and additional desserts also excellent. We wondered how they could continue to provide the service given the numbers staying. The two members of staff serving in t he restaurant were attentive and very professional. The main course was disappointing but the rest of the meal was excellent as was the service. Breakfast was good with constant top ups. All in all it was not at the same standard as 40 years ago, when it was amazing, but still well worth re visiting and would happily stay again.

An important criterion in selecting hotels for my vacation itineraries is the hotel's having an excellent restaurant. Castellane, the "Gastronomic French Restaurant" at Chateau Le Prieure, certainly satisfied that criterion. This allows me to enjoy an evening without having to worry about driving again. After verifying on the website that the restaurant would be open (such "gourmet" restaurants are often closed two nights a week to give the staff a break), I booked a nonrefundable stay and requested dinner. The hotel confirmed my room reservation but told me that the restaurant was not available. I decided that I would take advantage of room service and would not request a cancellation. It turned out that Castellane was not even open. Upon leaving the hotel, I heard another guest complain to the front desk that the restaurant had been closed the evening before and was not going to be open that evening as well - a most justified complaint. And room service? The poorly staffed hotel could provide us only with a charcuterie plate or a fromage plate because the kitchen was closed. So, we sallied forth into Saumur, where I have to say that we had a surprisingly excellent dinner at L'Instinct. The hotel is understaffed. The hotel is desperately in need of some tender loving care such as repair of a window with a hole in it and remediation of the sinking floor with cracked wood that you would not want to step on with bare feet. However, WiFi access is good. The staff is friendly and hospitable. The rooms are capacious and clean (although the shower had pink mildew). The bedding is most comfortable. The lounge area with its view of the Loire is spectacular as was the morning view of the river from our room.

The biggest disappointment, especially considering this was our honeymoon, which the hotel team ruined for us with their incompetence, lack of professionalism and boorish attitude! Our booking was fully paid in advance, we were driving straight after the wedding from Paris, and arrived at 5 am, and the first unpleasant surprise was an unwelcoming welcome and we were confronted with the fact that we had to give our bank card for a deposit (although this is not indicated in conditions on the booking com platform, and we also corresponded with the hotel all week and no one said about the deposit!) The next surprise awaited us in the room, according to correspondence in honor of the wedding, we were promised to decorate the bed with rose petals, and give bath accessories and slippers, for us it was funny after hundreds of trips around Europe at least, and when we saw these 15 petals we thought it was a joke, but on our wedding night it was inappropriate! We had a table booked in a restaurant, for which we allocated an hour, in total it turned out to be all 3 hours. Slowly, not professionally, when we were indignant, the waitress and the hotel attendant allowed themselves to be rude to us! We have never met such disrespect, and given that this is our honeymoon! We ordered a fruit basket that was not delivered to the room for our arrival, and given that this is our honeymoon and we chose this particular hotel for this, elementary fruits could have been a compliment! After numerous clarifications and frayed nerves, they brought us a huge basket of fruit, and we were very pleased. We paid for 3 breakfasts, but as a result there were only 1 time, very very meager, not even the usual emmental, no salt and pepper, and only ham and jamon from meat, and thinly sliced cucumber and incomprehensible carrots from vegetables ... For a chic breakfast, not count! We bought two bottles of local cremant, probably the only thing we can truly recommend! As well as great style and decor and a view of the Loire! The cleanliness of the room is 3 out of 5. And how can you settle in a room in which the bedside lamp is broken and hanging from a wire above your head. Last night we were the only ones in the whole hotel. Check-out at the hotel until 11, and we overslept a little and asked to leave at 12:00, they refused us, saying that their seminar and rooms were occupied. And having opened the booking com for today, it is available for today (departure day) in general, the entire hotel is free! 20 rooms available for booking today! And they said that that we could not make later check in…. Very very unprofessional and no respect and kindness to their guests! We will not come back NEVER !!!

To stay in a chateau in this region was great and the location on the Loire river is stunning. The bar and restaurant were lovely rooms overlooking the river. All ornately decorated which made it all the better. We had the Napoleon Suite which was amazing, felt like French royalty. This has a terrace outside of the room so you could sit & enjoy the view. The restaurant was shut for dinner however they recommended a restaurant a 10 minute walk away & that was good, overlooking the river. We had breakfast on the terrace in the morning which was lovely. Shout out to Nathalie the receptionist who helped us with our booking & checked us in. Very helpful & friendly. Would certainly recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding views. Bargain Chateau stay!
Booked on the day, finding deal of around 63 euro per night for bedroom 11 in a proper chateau! We booked 2 nights, Monday and Tuesday. Our bedroom was small but delightfully decorated, with small but good ensuite shower room. Very good rating given because bargain price, friendly staff, stunning views of the Loire (even from our little bedroom), comfortable stay and brilliant location from which we explored Saumur and Angers by car. Room is on the top floor - the wind was howling when we arrived, but dropped well before we turned in. Sitting in the bar lounge overlooking the Loire river, drinking local Saumur fizz on the first evening was delightful, soaking up the view from the Chateau's elevated position. Atmosphere was pretty "zero" as we were the only guests there at that point. Decor throughout the public rooms/spaces is unbelievably gaudy. Fake masterpieces, gilding, loud colours on all the furniture and soft furnishings. Not everyone's taste, for sure, but must admit it is expensively done and comfortable. Mon and Tues are nights when the restaurant is closed, so we couldn't enjoy a dinner there. Perhaps why the hotel was not full and our room so cheap. Little points to mention. Breakfast (at 18 euros a head) was a bit disappointing. Lovely selections of food laid out buffet style. But eggs were only offered 'scrambled' and all the hot food really wasn't hot. Shame. Room 11 - ensuite. The shelf above the basin is set too low, so the tap can only be opened to a dribble when pushed into cold position. Also sound travels easily between this room and next door, I guess through the possibly interconnecting door. Reception staff gave us no suggestion on where else we could eat on Tuesday night, and even didn't know there was a Music Festival happening in Saumur until we reminded them. Glad we stayed there. Would return to enjoy that view again, or even to try dinner in the restaurant with that fabulous view!

We had pre booked a room at Domaine de Joureau arriving to find that the stairs up to the room were so steep they were dangerous, we were left with a dilemma of where else to stay. Chateau Le Prieure to the rescue! The hotel is wonderfully placed, a super view over the Loire river, in it’s own grounds with plenty of parking. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and our bathroom had a great bath! The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful, the breakfast buffet was first class - all homemade as one of the receptionists said. We will certainly return.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful chateau on the banks of the Loire river
We loved this hotel. Stayed for two nights as part of our honeymoon and were upgraded to a beautiful huge suite with a river view and quite literally the largest and most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Clean and beautiful, wonderful staff that were so sweet. Saumur is very beautiful and we would return in a flash. So much to see and do. So many chateau.
Be the first to ReplyIf it good enough for Josephine then……
We had booked the Napoleon Suite and on arrival were blown away by this room with its opulence. Just a wonderful surprise and for us made this stay very memorable. Other than that the public rooms were just as impressive. A great find and our evening meal was of a high standard. This place is worth putting on your chateau list.
